Dhaka in North Hertfordshire

Had a delicious lamb jalfrezi madras and mulligatawny soup here. Staff were very attentive to my lactose allergy and made sure everything was dairy free and cooked in oil for me. Great curry 👍

Excellent food. Very fast service and they were very accommodating when I was asking about vegetarian options. Also very reasonably priced for both food and alcohol. A nice evening meal and we will certainly return next time we’re in Hitchin

Great food and attentive staff (only downside was spice slightly lacking on vindaloo). We were surprised at how low the price was compared to the other Indians in Hitchin. Definitely worth a visit.

The staff were totally independent to us, the food was terrible, vindaloo was tasteless no kick and was more like a madras. Mixed grill everything was just brown jalfrezi had no flavor.

Have moved away now but when in town this is still our place to go. Have been here many times. Comfortable, food is good, good value and the owner is lovely and its always good to chat.to him when he is there.. Have been here as a couple or with friends, no rush and food and drink just keeps flowing. Happy atmosphere too. Probably only thing we miss about Hitchin.

Went for a birthday meal and the food and service were absolutely brilliant. Definitely coming back again.

Used this place for years. Maybe a new Chef but tonight the food was not good. It seemed all our meals had the same sauce. No taste, very bland and disappointing.

We were a group of people came from India & stayed in Hitchin for weeks. This restaurant impressed us so much that our dinner was almost booked for 90% of nights during our stay in Hitchin! The staffs are really generous enough to ensure that we don't have any opportunity to miss taste of authentic Indian food. The hospitality was fabulous. Regarding food items, we have tested almost all chicken dishes available in this restaurant apart from few veg dishes and can confirm all are very good in taste. They also serve Beers like Kingfisher, Cobra and Bangla (বাংলা).......!!! That's icing on the package 🙂 Will strongly recommend this restaurant 👍

Disappointing delivery, not sure what has happened at the Dhaka as normally very reliable. Chicken Achari was so sour it was virtually inedible. The chicken shaslick arrived in a bag and was totally dried out.

Very friendly staff and excellent customer service. Luxurious curry's and a wide variety of options (even for vegetarians, vegans)! Would highly recommend.

Had a really good meal here with a friend. They always talk about how nice the food was and we had a good time. The waiters were genuinely nice people and very attentive and it is slap bang in the middle of Hitchin so a good location. Look forward to when I return

Good food, lots of options and fast service. The food has great flavor but very oily.

I met up with friends I have not seen for some time and they were keen to have a curry. We decided to visit the Dhaka restaurant in Sun Street. We received a friendly greeting from the staff and were immediately seated. The restaurant was not very busy and we did not have long to wait before our order was taken and our food soon arrived. It was very tasty and the waiters were attentive but not too intrusive. Over all I was very impressed with the service and would return again.

We walked in for a takeaway on a Saturday evening with a 4 year old. They welcomed us with open arms and made us feel so at home, and were so kind to our little boy, we will definitely return with our custom. It was our first time and we remember it fondly. We're looking forward to next time already! Thank-you so much everyone at Dhaka!!! And of course, the food was delicious!

I wouldn't eat here again, 4 prawns in prawn curry, questioned management on the dish and was given a hostile response, service was poor the waiter was rude and the management didn't want to know when we raised our concerns over the quality of food n service, myself n my would whole heartedly not recomend eating here, very very poor

Having ordered takeaway with clear question of time, I was told 40 minutes and 1.5 hours later rang again and was tole they were 'on their way'. They need to be more realistic about timeframe

Sadly the food we was so bland every dish from the Shamee Kebab to the Chicken Jal Frazee and Lamb Dopiaza tasted the same and to make the food even less tasty far too much Garlic was used, we could still taste garlic two days later. Not a pleasant experience.

Popped in on a Thursday evening with friends, first time I’ve been here for Indian food, but not disappointed! Short wait while a table was cleared but then quickly shown to the table and served with drinks and poppadoms while viewing the menu. Good portion sizes, well presented and tasty food all at a reasonable price. No complaints from any of us so will be visiting again in future.

Perfect authentic food, great staff

This is possibly the worst Indian meal I have ever had! My partner and I both ordered different dishes but somehow ended up with identical looking brown sludge with very little flavour and way too much heat. I have read a number of very favourable reviews for this restaurant and I can only wonder what these people are used to eating! If I could give a rating lower than one, I definitely would!

Just back from an excellent meal to celebrate a birthday. The food was fresh and tasty. The service was impeccable. The staff could not do more for us. We got complimentary after dinner drinks, a free pudding for our daughter and my husband got a free bottle of Prosecco for his birthday. We will definitely use Dhaka as our ‘go to’ curry house for dining in and for take away from now on. Thank you!

The food is absolutely amazing. But delivery is absolutely abysmal. So many times we have been told it will be 45-50 minutes and it ends up taking 2.5-3 hours (no exaggeration). Delivery times are absolutely unacceptable. If you are busy just be honest when people first call and then the customer can make a decision whether to wait or go elsewhere.

I have been to Dhaka many times and the food has always been 10/10. Great portion sizes, service and price too!

I ordered a takeaway on a Thursday evening from the Dhaka restaurant. I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed ordering from these guys! It was easy to order over the phone and quick delivery from a familiar face at the restaurant, which was great. The portions sizes are great, the food always tastes fresh and appears unique as suppose to the other indians in hitchin. Which shows they put effort into presentation. They offer a wide range of dishes that meet the needs of any curry lover. You must try the lamb chops. They were out of this world, they were succulent, tasty and cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef who hit the spice levels perfectly just how we asked for. These guys are great consistently offering high quality food and top notch service!

Been going here for our Indian takeaway for over 2 years.. really tasty food and great service! Would highly recommend them!

I have been a long serving customer of the Dhaka restaurant for many years, thier food is amazing and the service is top notch. Each curry has a distinct taste and appearance. The staff are very accommodating and helpful when choosing dishes. This restaurant is the longest standing Indian restaurant in Hitchin...which speaks for itself. They are currently offering home delivery which has allowed me and my family to be able to still order. And well the standards have not changed at all, you can still taste the fresh ingredients just like your eating inside the restaurant and it's delicious as always!! The best in Hitchin! A must try for any curry lover!

When the aforementioned cold curry arrived we suggested we didn't need nor want to pay for the meal. At this point the delivery driver argued that we should pay or he would take the food away. Hoping for a more reasonable response from the restaurant, we suggested he call them. Alas no! They too suggested we return the food! The moral of this tale is don't order from this restaurant if they get lost, because they don't give a, lets say "a monkeys" about customer satisfaction or retention.

Had 6 friends round for a Christmas curry night. Put the order in early and as usual Dhaka delivered a wonderful, tasty and fabulous takeaway. All the dishes were great without exception and everything including the popadoms was fresh and just right. Not the only do they do the best takeaway in Hitchin, they have the best delivery guy you could ask for. Not only does he always a smile on his face and is incredibly friendly, he brings complimentary beers and and even a bottle of fizz! Thanks Dhaka.

Went to the dhaka on 16/11/19 we waited for over an hour for someone to come and take our order but they were clearly under staffed so we just left , there people in there still waiting for meals and getting impatient as well ! Its shame because the menu looked very interesting may have a second go at some stage !!

Table for 4 sat down had a few drinks,, food came out and noticed the rice moving with maggots in it!! Filth!!! Needs closing down!!

Dated decor, gloopy slop, served by indifferent staff. When you order two different dishes and get the same brown sludge on both you know they don't care.

Great food and excellent service

We’ve struggled to find a decent Indian in Hitchin over the past couple years and had given almost up as Indian as an option. A friend recommended we revisit the Dhaka and we are delighted that we did. A brilliant, authentic Indian restaurant. I strongly recommend the Chicken Bakara tikka and the chicken tikka dhansak.

I turned up on time to collect my takeaway and a packed restaurant! I should have been warned but it took an hour to get my takeaway! Others were demanding their money back and suddenly their takeaway would arrive. Not happy but we live and learn I suppose. I would suggest that you ask whether they are busy when ordering, I know I will in future!

We get takeaway from here fairly often and tend to chose the same things- chicken tikka masala, jalfrezi or bhuna, pilau rice, and a variety of naans and paratha . Only thing I’m not sure if I’d order again was the onion bhaji as the last two times it has been super greasy.

Very good Indian food. One of the best in hitchin. Do try tandoori fish. It was yummy.

We had a takeaway last night from this restaurant and they delivered to Ickelford and the food was great. Along with the food, came a very welcome free bottle of Cobra too. i will be using them again.

Visited last weekend with friends and had a delightful meal. Well cooked and presented, very tasty and very reasonable. The restaurant was busy with both diners and take away services but we had excellent service and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

My husband and I go here often and it’s always first class . It’s a good family run business and we’re always looked after.

Our first visit to Dhaka. We booked a table for 7pm for an early dinner. For good health I try to have eaten dinner by 8pm to leave time to digest and start burning it off before I go to bed. We arrived at the restaurant at 7pm, our meals arrived at 8:35pm - an hour and a half later! The restaurant was pretty busy, they had 2 members of staff on which I'd say wasn't enough but they weren't rushed off their feet, perhaps it was the kitchen that was under staffed in fact. We'd decided to give them 10 more minutes before we would just pay for our drinks and leave (BTW the drinks order wasn't correct so my BF didn't get the correct beer he'd ordered). It arrived 5 mins before we were going to leave. The food was tasty but it arrived so late it couldn't make up for how long we'd been sitting there waiting, meanwhile everyone around us was tucking into their meals. Not really what we were hoping for for our NYE dinner.

Sometimes it's difficult giving a rating out of 5, eg some places are between a 3 and a 4. This place is easy, it's a 6 Dhaka's food is really tasty and great quality, so many wonderful dishes. Plus the people who run the place are lovely. There are other nice Indians in Hitchin but Dhaka is the best.

Lovely little restaurant, with friendly and helpful staff. The food was delicious and large portions meant for takeaway box for lunch the next day! I've eaten here every time I'm in Hitchin

We enjoyed our meal so much, we returned the following evening. Foodwise there are no complaints at all. Service however lacked a little because they were one staff member short. This was communicated to us, which is a positve.

I used to eat here every week but recently it’s gone downhill. The food isn’t what it was and the service is where it’s really dropped. There’s an older waiter (not the owner), who is frankly about as helpful as a chocolate teapot. And he’s rude if you say anything to him about changing things.

Love it here, excellent food and the staff are amazing. I recommend the Lamb Dansak but depends on what you like, there is something for everyone!! 🤗🤗🤗

This was our first visit to the Dhaka Restuarant in sun street Hitchin. First impressions were it was a very seventies style Indian restaurant. However the food was really good and the prices were very reasonable. There are some interesting menu choices and the chicken asari was excellent and is the first time I have had a chicken dish with a lime pickle base. All in all a good Indian restaurant.

Got take away from here as was visiting with business, staff were friendly and helpful. Food was ready quickly, super cheap and most importantly really nice! Definitely recommend

Such a shame that this restaurant seems to have lost it's way. The staff are trying their best, but the food was very poor. We had to send a King Prawn korma back as the prawns were very overcooked. The staff were lovely and immediately replaced it with a chicken korma which was good.

Good, well spiced food, but slow service that was indifferent to the few customers in the restaurant on a Tuesday evening. The wrong order was brought to the table, and the food that was brought was not described. Also, a Sicilian Chianti was sold as a Bordeaux! An alternative wine was a solid supermarket offering. The decor of the restaurant was interesting and spoke to character and potential largely unrealized. The management should think about slimming down the (very long and not very accessible) menu and focussing the menu on the Bengali (so said the indifferent waiter) and maritime themes that percolate the restaurant's decor and food.

The service we received was second to none, food outstanding and extremely generous servings. Our waiter was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the menu and very genuine. We asked about a taxi on completion of our meal and not only was one ordered for us but he also helped me with my shopping and carried out my walking aid out to the taxi. That’s what I call service!
