The Centenary - Sizzling Pubs in Stockton-on-Tees

Booked on a Saturday afternoon for a large party of us and to be fair it was good. The pub is looking a little tired around the edges but it’s comfortable, well run, good service and the food is decent especially for the prices

Came to watch the football with no high expectations of the food. It’s a fabulous place to watch football and the food was outstanding. The fish was delicious and very fresh, it turned out to be river cobbler, definitely a fish I will have again. The meat on the mixed grill was all succulent and perfectly cooked. The cocktails and wine delicious. The staff were wonderful, just the right level of friendliness and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend this place!!

We held my Mums wake in the private room at The Centenary. The room was set up perfectly, clean linen and small floral arrangement on each table. Tea and coffee was available at the agreed time, which was replenished regularly. Food was available again at agreed time. We opted for the ‘gold’ buffet which was very well presented and a really great selection, which included salad and vegetarian options. It did actually cater for everyone. There is also a bar area, private to the room, which no one had any problems when ordering drinks etc. Thank you for making a very difficult day, stress free, comfortable and adding that little attention to detail. Would highly recommend using this service.

The chris was verry helpful. We only poped in for lunch. We just hppend to mention we were looking for a small function room for our wedding. Chris took the time to show us your function room and talk us threw the buffet menue. He was so loverly. We hav taken the details and will decide in the next few weeks.

Great service, brilliant staff and food was great! Regularly come here and haven’t been disappointed. Will be returning soon

Surprise party arranged by my husband and the Centenary was fantastic. The function room was perfect and the food was really good. We had a variety of ages from children through to 80+ and everybody really enjoyed it. Well done Donna and the team

This pub is our ‘go to’ for family meals. We head out at least once every month, sometimes more. We usually have no complaints about the food and the service is always top notch. The menu is often updated seasonally giving a variety of choice to the guests. We had Chris waiting on us today, and Chris is always very accommodating. We rate this pub highly for family’s!

Took ages to get served at the bar and the food was below average. I got Hunters Chicken, my husband had Lasagne, we both agreed how bland the meals were. It was quite expensive for the tiny portions of food served.

Had a meal heare last night. The man with the verry short hair and glasses was verry accommodating. After we ordered our food a table came available in the conservatory. We asked if we could move. With out hesitation he said yes and helped us with our drinks to the new table. He then went on to ask if we had ordered food yet. As soon as I said we had he said I will get that sent to your new table that's not a problem. What a lovely man.

The children got their food last after the adults and my food was burnt. Shame! Felt disappointed! Took ages for the food as well.

Lovely pub with friendly staff that are always willing to help. With good value for money. How can you go wrong with two meals for £11.

Rubbish. Food came out cold, tiny portions and very expensive for what you get. One had steak which was really was a horrible cut full of gristle. Alot of food uneaten but nobody even checked. We ate when we came home!

This is a lovely family friendly pub. The staff go out of their way to accommodate everyone. When I was there there was people in wheelchairs, large family gatherings etc and the staff made everyone welcome. The food is good. Better than other sizzling grills I have been to. I loved the salad bowl with the jerk chicken skewers and my hubby had the fish and chips which he said was very nice. It looked nice too. Best of all they were available as a special offer 2 for £11 I think. Very reasonable. Don’t forget your blue light card if you have one.

great christmas party for the children,fabulous atmosphere,great value for money only 8 pound ticket that included disco,party games,meeting the grinch,lovely little tea which was either pizza,fish fingers,chicken nuggets all came with chips and drinks, all children received goodie bags to take home,my grandson loved it!

Fabulous place for a drink & food available. The Centenary is split into two open areas for families using the restaurant & the bar area for adults. The landlady & the staff are very courteous & efficient. Yes there are busy times but there is the order at table using the app & can at times get you served faster than standing in the queue. The bar area can be loud at times, adults will be adults just like kids can be kids the only difference is the adults don't usually run around like children but in saying that it's nice to see children enjoying themselves and when they run through the bar area to go to the toilets or the private lounge area no one in the bar area minds.

What a lovely place, service was second to none, the landlady was so friendly and inviting. The atmosphere was great. Food was delicious and a lovely clean place to enjoy a family meal in. Will definitely be back.

There are no words to describe some of the locals in here. Foul mouthed animals in the bar area. The landlady is one of the worst, always drunk and effing and jeffing. A disgrace. You couldn't take women or children in this pub. It would be an assault on there senses. Somebody from this Sizzler chain needs to drop in unannounced and witness it.

Menu and portions getting more disappointing each trip, they can't keep their chefs, long waiting times for food that doesn't hit the spot and won't be as you ordered it. Also can't make a mojito to save their life!

A very good menu choice at reasonable prices. Dinning area is clean and decor is welcoming. Always a nice family atmosphere. Staff are helpful, polite, friendly and very professional

We decided to go out for lunch & chose to go here. We were not disappointed although there app needs some attention to order food & drink. The waitress EMILY ? was more than helpful & could not fault her patients as we had 2 pensioners with us for pensioner meals.The food though was worth the effort, I can recommend the Slow roast steak.Thank you

False Adverting venue, its clearly Advertised as Live sport big screen.. ???Big screen Not available and they are not allowed to have volume turned on ( small screen tv ) for the football.. Been a loyal customer here for over 30 years but timeFor a change.. Avoid if your a sports fan !!

Went for an evening meal on Thursday the 17th of September. My wife had hunters chicken which she said was ok. I had sirloin steak. It was supposed to be an 8oz steak but it was very small and I doubt that it was 8oz. However I asked for it to be cooked medium rare. It was cremated on the outside and cooked to medium well. It was also full of gristle. It was served with fries, only the weren’t fried, they were oven chips! It came with half a tomato and a quarter of a portobello mushroom. Now I know it wasn’t expensive but you should be striving for far better than this! I’m afraid I won’t be eating there again!!!

Always loved coming to this pub, used to be some happy staff in this place they were all misrable,Went for my sons 10th birthday and the service was a disgrace, waited 20mins for our drinks to be brought to the table, Our desserts came out without them clearing up our plates from dinner, wont be going back

Went out for a meal with my wife on a quiet Tuesday evening. The table was booked for 8pm and we were the only people ordering food, so we expected it to be of good quality. How wrong were we. I ordered the ultimate chicken combo which was ment to come with 4 different types of chicken, corn on the cob, grilled tomato, onion rings and chips. What turned up was a slice if dry chicken, 4 chicken nuggets and chips. When i complained the waitress went off and they came back with another piece of chicken which looked like it has done 10 rounds with Frank Bruno. Still no onion rings, corn on the cob or tomato. I complained again. My wife meal was even worse with so much missing and no preparation at all. In the end we had to get the manager involved who did give us a full refund as she agreed it was absolutely appalling. We have just moved into the village and was so looking forward to having somewhere to take family and friends. Never again.

Went here with my family and it was the worst experience we had, firstly the macaroni and cheese portion was a child’s size took 2 minutes to eat which is disgraceful for £6. My partner ordered a burger that was supposed to come with 2 pieces of chicken but only came with one, when we complained the woman said your meant to order a double if you want 2 which it didn’t give the option of on the app or say on the menu. When we said this she fogged us off and told someone else to deal with it he then asked the chef who said it was his mistake, not that you have to pay for more contradicted what his colleague said first. Not only this but my nephew ordered a child’s cheese pizza that was tiny the poor kid actually asked if he could have some of his dads food. Overall our experience was awful and we will not be returning.

Went to the Centenary to meet up with a few friends for tea. I hadn’t been in this pub for a year and I was shocked at how shabby it now looked. Needs a good lick of paint, chairs were stained and dirty, and carpet covered with peoples food that had fallen off the table. We all ordered food and I can’t describe how badly presented it was. One of the meals was meant to come with salad and it just had 1 lettuce leaf on the plate. Chicken goujons had to go back as they were cold in the middle. I ordered a steak pie which had only 3 chunks of meat in it. There was 1 girl waitress who bless her was running around doing everything and apologising for the state of the food, whilst the manager was just stood talking to staff behind the bar. Will definitely not be going back for a long long time

Hi just had the festive food we had booked ages ago got there got seated table had all the crackers on the table thought that was nice especially that I had my granddaughter with me we booked for 3. Course meal lovely starter main and sweet it was great can’t thank you enough

Ate lunch here. E W both ordered pie and chips with peas. I was surprised at how good the pie was. The peas had obviously been warmed too quickly and had wizened slightly.

ordered steak came on a skillet on top of sizzling onions kept hot and was delicious the waitress was warm friendly with a smile , you have to order at the bar for food but service was prompt so no complaints

In all honesty I can say that the Sunday lunch at this pub is the worst meal I have ever had. It was disgusting. There was a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. There were no Yorkshire puddings. The roast potatoes were disgusting. Because there was very little mash, I think they had decided to give more peas. Hence, there was a plateful of peas. The dinner was luke warm. The chicken was just OK. The bar maid it would seem had got out of bad on the wrong side and we were a nuisance to her. Never again

Just recently visited the centenary on the way home from visiting family and we are so glad we did. Food was great! Fantastic value too! The service was great too, the manager Donna I think her name was was so friendly and helpful. Thank you for a great visit.

On a very hot evening we thought a no cook meal might be nice, but this place has no AC or even any fans, it is north east England after all, but to discover that they had no ice was a surprise.Tha meal however was very nice and served promptly.

Saturday lunch with grandchildren. Meals are good value for the price, not too noisy however child friendly.

Lovely pub .we enjoyed a meal here with friends .pleasant bar staff .very friendly .nice outside sitting area .and they cater for smokers with a semi outdoor room with heating .they also cater for parties and have entertainment evenings with groups and singers.

We were a party of eight. Two meals included the higher priced 'uploaded' surf and turf. The steaks were of of poor quality with over a third being inedible gristle. We reported this to the waitress and a waiter returned to offer two free desserts; he and the waitress cleared the meals placed on a near y table where we could hear the waitress moaning about our complaint. When the desserts arrived, two ice creams were served in dishwasher hot glasses and were nearly melted. This time the waitress said "What do you expect from a hot kitchen?". I complained to the manage who offered a discount and promised to address the issues.

Donna and the team provided an excellent service for my daughter's babyshower. The room looked fantastic with table and chair decorations. The buffet food was absolutely delicious. We invited and catered for 40 but 60 turned up so there was still room and plenty of food. We were even allowed to put up our own extra decorations. Absolutely recommend The Centenary for any family party. Thanks to all involved.

It was horrendous, meat was raw and the vegetables were hard and the mash tasted like it was cooked in the microwave.

In again with my father for a couple of pints. Lovely, helpful staff. John Smiths, excellent. Decided to have a snack, I just had a portion of chips, which were the best I;ve had for a long while, good size portion and piping hot. Dad had the piri-piri chicken starter which was good sized and pipng hot. The bar area and tables were clean and tidy, empty glasses cleared away promptly. This pub has really improved over the last six months.

We were a party of six and got a big table beside a window where the sun was streaming in so I was a happy eater. We all just wanted a light lunch and the food was very adequate for the money we paid -----not cordon bleu, but quite tasty and it certainly didn't break the bank. We were all completely replenished and chose from a very large ,varied menu. The food came quite quickly and was served by a very friendly ,pleasant waitress so no complaints from me on this occasion.

OK so the thing that really winds me up about this place is every single time we have been there, they bring the children's meals out last and on plates so hot that the adults are warned to be careful handling them.

We went to celebrate a 60th so again booked the table in the conservatory part arrived and was given again a small table not happy we did move but nit to the table we had reserved . Got served but one of the guests had to choose 3meals before she was lucky as no ingredients for her . Not good , all the meals that came 8 in total we're either dry or over cooked , I had lasagne I couldn't eat it at all it didn't have any meat in just gravy again we gave the pub the a second chance ! Not improved sorry to say whoever took over last year needs to loom fir a new chef

We as a family eat here weekly it's not bad for what you pay, food is fine unless they are really busy then you see plate after plate going back. We still love it and it hasn't put us off!

Had a meal here this week. I had a steak, my wife had Pork ribs & chicken combo. Very good quality at very reasonable prices. Service was very good. To be recommended.

We have gone for Xmas lunch for a long time but in 2018 we went , we booked well in advance and paid for 5 fir Xmas lunch then when we got there we were given a table with 4settings only when I advised that the table was for 4 the waitress was quite abrupt and advised they were going to get a set of cutlery So we were squashed together but decided it's not the end of the world . The Xmas meal was bad , pate was so cheap then the turkey was shredded and nit nice at all , and the cheesecake was so dry not a nice meal at all not booking fir 2019 .

Good meal for the price. Fast service in nice surroundings. Only downside was the coffee machine wasn't working.

in today with my father, we had the two meals for £8.50, they were both excellent. the food is a lot better lately, good portions, well presented and piping hot. washed down with john smiths smooth (one of the best pints in the area). staff were first rate. a real improvement from before.

Absolute joke had meal not bad orderd deserts at 5 pm to be told at 5.30 two of three orderd unavailable re orderd 20 mins later two of three brought out one told unavailable NO APOLOGY

Wow!! You don't expect quality ingredients in a cheap sizzler pub, but you would expect it to be ok at least... this was rubbish! No rice or prawn crackers to go with the chilli beef! So my partner agreed to have poppadom and fries instead! Now my order, No fish and chips, No spuds to go with the mince beef pie so agreed to have chips with it instead, so not the end of the world! BUT & note the big BUT, When the pie came it had no mince in it! Thick gravy pie?? I was embarrassed for them, incredible how you can advertise mince and onion pie with no mince in it! I told them to take it away and ordered an all day breakfast instead! The ingredients where cheap and nasty on the breakfast and it showed! Really bad meal!

Food not good badly presented,chips dry and different colours as were the garden peas,my wife had chicken and Stilton with big chunks of Stilton should of been grated sevice not good no meal check back the place was dead not inviting at all.

The table was not ready when we arrived for our prebooked meal, OK not the end of the world.

The food was very good value for money. We did mot wait too long to be served a well portioned hot meal and delicious desserts.

Took the kids out for a treat and i actually get treated myself, had a mixed grill cooked to absolute perfection and i dont mean the steak rare and nice I mean the gammon was absolutely 100% perfect by the book.... I am an executive chef and i would like to thank the chef on today ( Sunday) all the elements were cooked fine but that gammon was out of this world!!!

Following a bad experience in July we were invited back as guests of one of the managers. There were six of us and we were sceptical as our last visit was a dreadful one. This time everything was perfect and I am so pleased that we accepted their offer to put things right. The food was cooked to a high standard, the service was great and the waiting staff checked on us three times to ensure that all was well. It couldn’t have been any better. Looking forward to returning to a restaurant that has always been a family favourite in the past. I am aware that there were problems earlier this year but they do appear to have resolved these. If you went recently and were disappointed please give them another try, hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised too. Can’t wait to go back.

Apparently they have had a change in management recently and with it, huge improvement it would seem.

Unfortunately this isn’t the first time we have had poor quality of food here (but hey give them another chance)

Usual chain pub set up. Very noisy bar area but found a table a good distance away. Long queue to order food and drinks. Both had chicken fajitas. 4 fajitas, plentiful chicken. 4 separate dips, sadly served in cheap plastic containers. However wraps lovely and good value for money. Queue even longer at bar to order post meal coffees. However these were delivered to the table by a very polite young man

The food was good and the staff friendly. the surroundings were pleasant. One of the staff was enormously helpful.. I would go again

We went here for a drink as it was a gorgeous day thankfully only drinks and not food.

We had booked a table for 6 people and also requested a highchair. When we arrived the table we had requested did not have a reserved sign on it, luckily it wasn't being used, however there were no chairs at the table either! There was a big lack of chairs, I don't know where they were, the pub was quiet! We went to various tables and managed to scrounge enough chairs. We found a high chair which was filthy and we had to clean before we could use it. We placed our order, which wasn't cheap but it was a birthday celebration for my mum. When the meal arrived it was dreadful. I had ordered the crispy beef, didn't taste any beef just crispy bits like scraps from a fish and chip shop. Was supposed to come with a giant prawn cracker but they had none so I was given a popadom instead. My husband ordered Whole Hog but it came without any beans and no explanation for this and without corn on the cob because they didn't have any! My grandaughter's cheese burger didn't contain cheese. My daughter ordered a mixed grill and asked for the steak to be medium rare, it was cremated and unedible. She had also ordered a side of corn on the cob and we were served sweetcorn pieces instead as they had no cobs. We should have been told of the shortages at the bar when the order was placed but we weren't. This pub has always been our place of choice but the last few times we have been it has been dreadful. Someone told me that they had heard that the old manager and kitchen staff from there moved to the Horse & Jockey and they got a new team in the Centenary because the people on the Glebe will accept anything. I have no idea if this is true it is only what I heard but it certainly feels like it! Come on Centenary get your act together and fix this. Even after complaining to the waitress nothing was done!

Ok, so they have an ant infestation. Loads of them around and even ON the table. Didn't spot that until the end though. There was no ice for cold drinks.

The food was lovely and we didn’t need to wait long. I find it great value for money. The staff are always friendly. Nice pub!

Went here for lunch. Menu looked interesting. Ordered a glass of wine. The wine came in a filthy glass. The John Smiths beer was awful. The chips were like cardboard and cold. All in all an experience which I will not repeat. Absolutely awful.

We usually go here all the time for family meals. Usually nice food and good value for money. However, my fiancé went for a meal with her mother and grandma this evening and had a very different experience. The issue mainly revolves around their server at the bar(didn’t catch their name but looked new) My fiancé asked if she could have a South Carolina topper on her steak and was met with “I can’t do that” when she asked as to why the response was “I just can’t do that” puzzled by this my fiancé just thought perhaps this topping wasn’t available and so asked what other toppings she could have. The reply was “I just can’t do any of them” no reason why, just a blanket response. Now I don’t know if this was an attitude problem or not but to have such nonchalant reply was ridiculously unprofessional. Her grandma then asked for a J20 and was just passed a bottle. No offer of a glass. The guy just didn’t want to know. I’d like to think a pub belonging to such a reputable chain would hold themselves to a higher standard. I’d expect better service in a greasy spoon café. As before mentioned we usually go to this pub all the time for family meals however this experience has raised many question marks around whether or not we should be bothered about going back. Visit here occasionally for some well priced tasty food. Sharing platter is really good value. Started having live music events now so even better.

Very enjoyable night with good atmosphere and very friendly people, very good quiz with good mixture of questions. Also good choice of beers and food with friendly staff.

Had my doubts every time we come here but it's close. As usual food hard lumpy cold. And again wrong order. So we had to wait while it took another 10 minutes for kids fresh plate. Think it's time to stop coming. They certainly don't appreciate good customers. Wetherspoons is round the corner and gives a much better service cost and better meal.

Have tried coming for breakfast three times now as it’s the closest place to us and it’s absolutely appalling. The food is always cold and the bar staff are always unhelpful and clearly don’t want to be there. On the last visit, on Friday morning we were served by a girl who couldn’t manage to get the order correct which was “two toast a tea and a coffee”. She repeated back that it was one toast and two teas?! Clearly wasn’t listening. She failed to let us know that it was self service tea and coffee so we were waiting to be served them, the toast was cold and served with one jam and no butter and when I asked for butter she rolled her eyes. There was two other members of staff (I think a manager) and there was still dirty tables everywhere. The cups were filthy also. The place just seems very unclean.

Never eaten there, food looks ok but the staff never rub dirty tables you have to ask,and now they have started to Hoover up an hour before it shuts and when you go to the bar people are queuing like sheep,in a line up to the bar ITS NOT A CLUB !if I want to hear a Hoover while I'm having a drink i will do it at home.Pity this pub could be so much better.

Unusually we were disappointed tonight.

Visited this pub for a drink with my son who was home from Oz. Being the closest pub to home we chose the Centenary. I hadn’t been here for about a year and half. The pub was 1/2 empty and had no atmosphere at all. The beer was mediocre at best. The gents toilets were an absolute disgrace. Whilst it is a sizzling pub we saw no one eating. Sorry but I won’t be back here for probably another year and a half

Friday nights we go for drinks with friends but Friday 13 October it was appalling. There was a staff leaving do and the noise and language was disgusting. This was not a good example to set to customers. Normally the pub is full till about 9.30 and then it is just the regulars. There were only 20 other people in and the rest were staff. They had music which was so loud the bar staff could not hear your orders. We go most Friday's with our friends and occasionally we go for meals. Hopefully bother s was a one off.

Easy to park. Clean inside. The food was below standard. I had a breakfast. The chips were overlooked, the white of the eggs runny, the mushrooms were cold.

No es bonita. Posiblemente debido a ir a las 3:00 pm carne era el medio pollo. Las verduras sabía a que había sido cocinar por semanas. Patacas Chirivías casi rompió los dientes. El repollo estaba muy bien. No es suficiente salsa para una comida seca. Pedí más salsa. Que nos dieron enseguida. Pero por desgracia aún no podía ayudar ahogando la cena.
