The Cedars in Leicester

We had a lovely Saturday lunch here. It was the first time we'd been here and weren't disappointed. The food quality was delicious and freshly cooked. I had a lovely vegetarian red thai curry, which was nice'n'spicy. My fellow diners had fish and chips, which was huge (whale and chips?) and the Middlesbrough parma, all with ample portions. For real ale fans, I had a nice pint of Directors, but there was also Wainwright's Gold on tap from the Lake District.

Went to a birthday party however the party was over 2 areas not really good as party girl was not in the mix of things and not involved

Nice food, nice location but needs an upgrade on the decor in line with other pubs in the area to bring in more people

On Wednesday I joined a group of friends for lunch. We all had lovely meals with desserts and drinks served by friendly staff. The Cedars is a regular firm favourite of ours.

Cheap food and sometimes a wait but today, waiting times were exceptionally bad. First, nobody was available to serve on the bar for around 10 minutes. At one point the bar had to close, with a sign put up to show this. We then waited over an hour for a few small lunch meals. They were terribly understaffed, with 1 girl on the 2 bars, 1 waiter and the chef. All 3 staff were pushed to their limits and the customers around us were getting fed up of waiting too. The food was ok, SFC burger was hard around the edges. The coleslaw was missing from one plate and one had very hard bullet peas. With the shortage of staffing issue, I had nobody to ask about the coleslaw or burger, so I left it.. Nobody came to check the food was ok either. The wait ruined it unfortunately, so 3 stars.

Great food once again from the Cedars, well worth the drive from Melton to collect it!

Excellent place to eat. Out for a family meal. Check the weekday menu as these are good value for money at under £10. If you have room, a pudding will cost you an extra £1.50. Highly recommend the Gammon meal and the Cajun Chicken. Both on the weekday menu. It was so good, we returned with the rest of the family 2 days later. Good selection of real ales and beers. Quick and polite service too which is rare nowadays.

Horrible experience. Manager "remi" was terribly rude insulted me about my appearance despite being drunk/not well to which I reasonably responded to with personal matters/broke down in hopes of gaining understanding and an apology. Instead got cussed/laughed at and told "it is my opinion" (referring to my appearance) Extremely unprofessional and disheartening. Just to add the other staff (excluding the manager who barred me- solely down to personal reasons and distress experienced from his insults as opposed to "serving alcohol at discretion") did call a taxi. I appreciate the taxi back home though much preferred an apology for comments on my appearance, thank you.

Really enjoyed it, the food was tasty and hot and there is quite a nice variety

Such a shame the crew who serve the meals are so disinterested in good customer service . The foods brilliant and great value but the service is so lacking any charisma or pride .

Lovely meal on Sunday. There was 17 of us. Out for a family get together. All of the food was served together. And nice and hot.

This is a really nice pub with lovely staff but the food could be so much better,I had the mixed grill looked good but meat was chewy and very bland as not seasoned. My wife had a steak and that was the same could be so much better if they just add some seasoning.

Just visited for light snack but ended up taking up the 2 steaks and drinks offer. We had 8oz bistro rump and 10oz rump. Both were cooked to perfection, arrived promptly and with a smile 😄 service and food 5*

Food good, staff good. Interior a bit dated but clean. Nice place for a very resonable meal out.

Standard menu, was told gluten free items are mentioned on the menu. They were not. Online has different items for gf food but not available. When the cutlery came it was dirty, had to ask staff member to replace. Ordered southern fried chicken burger and was dry and did not tate right. The jacket potato was so small and some of the toppings were not available. Butter didn't melt like it should. I would not come back here. I received no decent customer service and the food was not good.

We go quite often for lunch & the good is always very nice & the service is usually very friendly & cheerful apart from one of the gentlemen who serves behind the bar who’s a bit miserable (hence a one star deduction)

Wow a fab pub fab food just a shame its so far away .generous portions bought half of fil fish pie home roll on summer when we can go in the garden with our dog

Wife and I visited today and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the Beef Lasagne and Salad. Nice big portion and hot, including the middle of the Lasagne; and believe me I have many at other places which are boiling hot on the outside but tepid in the middle. The salad was fresh and crunchy and the side of garlic bread nicely toasted. Wife had Gammon which was lean and well done as she asked. Chips with it were hot and tasty. Only minor fault was the ladies toilet which I was told was a little grubby. All in all though a really good dining experience. We will be back.

This is a “does what it says on the tin” British pub. The staff were nice, attentive and friendly. The food was okay. Generous portions for the price. The pub itself could use a bit of an update (especially the toilets) but tables, cutlery etc were all clean.

Called in last evening for a meal. Good choice on the menu and good prices too. My friend is gluten intolerant and she asked if the flat white coffee was made with soya or oat milk. The manager Karl with a K said no but he'd pop next door to the shop and get some, and off he went. We were both amazed at such excellent service. Well done to all the staff 👍🏼

Had a lovely meal, one of the staff, Karl was fantastic, I forgot to book a table and we had our granddaughter Tessa with us and she got very upset cos we hadn't got a table, Karl went out of his way to accommodate us all, would recommend the cedars, 5 stars

Had a lovely meal here with a friend. Can recommend the steak and ale pie. My friend had cottage pie which she loved. Plenty to eat and if you have room for a dessert after the ample mains there is a large choice of desserts. Also lunchtime special deserts for £1.50. we both had one of those and enjoyed the chocolate ice-cream sundae.

I loved the ambience definitely i will come back.

My favourite pub for food is a nice atmosphere staff are great

Good sized portions at a decent price. Menu contains enough variety to choose from. Seating is limited however never had a problem as long as have booked a table ahead of time regardless of the party size. Service is usually fairly quick also.

Lovely food. They also made some grilled chicken for my dog.

We went for lunch as a group of 19 ramblers. It was £6.50 for a lunch main meal, and as there were so many of us I expected a lengthy wait. The food came out very promptly and was very very nice and unbelievable value for money. Very highly recommended, and they also have some great deals during the week for two mains and wine or prosecco.

Was a good lunch here. Service was quick even during a busy period. Food was nice and atmosphere was pleasant. Not too loud. Only downside was a lot of broken glass in the outdoor area.

Come here every new year day and it never disappointes. Food always great. Serves awesome. And the atmosphere is very old fashion. Great family meet up restaurant. I recommend the cheesos, mack and chees bits and halloimie frise

Visited the Cedars for Christmas lunch with the family. As ever, the meal was Excellent, and Karl and the team were very attentive and ensured that everyone was looked after. We have visited the Cedars for years, and Karl has done a terrific job in creating a family-friendly eating experience. Well done Karl and the team.

Food quality is really bad, ordered a burger, and it was plain with only bun and small chicken pattie with no salad or any sauce. Drinks are good, food is a definite miss

Large party so perhaps the reason for a disappointing meal. Mushroom risotto, reheated in the microwave, with full roast veg (frozen). Shame!

As a group of Womble litter pickers, we enjoy picking an area so that we can have lunch at the Cedars. The lunch time menu is such good value, with excellent choices also on their main menu. We are never short of choices of what to eat although we all have our favourite dishes. The food is really excellent quality. No matter how busy the pub is, we never have to wait long for our food. The staff are really welcoming, especially Carl on the bar and the waiting staff. Having lunch out at the Cedars makes a morning picking up other people’s litter more enjoyable.

The Cedars is our favourite place to eat a good stake! The offer for two stakes and the bottle of wine is a great buy! The stakes are full of flavour, and the place is great!

Ok so came here for lunchtime food, there were three of us. We sat down, and one of us went to the bar to place an order. We were 3rd in the queue, and it took 15 mins before we got to place the order. Behind the bar was I believe was the manager, he looked very unsteady on his feet, and had slurred speech. It took 10 mins to place our order, and 3 drinks. We got our drinks, and thought that was it. But no, this guy totally lost the plot, couldn't operate the till or the order system, it took a further 15 mins, at which point he gave up and said I'll sort out our later. We sat down, but weren't convinced, so we collard another waitress to check if our order was in the kitchen. Lo and behold, no order. She apologised and put the order on the system within 3 mins. Food came out within 15 mins from then and was not bad. As we were walking out, people at the bar waiting to be served by the manager, were left in shock, as he decided to go across the road to the shop without any word. Rest of the staff great, the manager is either totally drunk, or on some heavy medication, in both cases, should not be working.

OK food and drink, prompt service and friendly staff. One star rating unfortunately due to the amount of dog mess there is in the garden. The garden where children are free to run around and play! It's absolutely disgusting and absolute laziness that noone is checking and cleaning up regularly at the start/end of the working day - please change your practice before some poor child ends up catching something!

So we popped in as a family met by a grumpy guy behind the bar bit lewis capaldi looking mardy very unhelpful...i was expecting good things as heard this was the place to go for a steak/mixed grill....i had the mighty mixed grill £16 and i must say the quality of food was poor steak was chewy the liver was horrendous taste i wont go into to much detail but for sure i won't be returning!

We went to the restaurant as a group. On arriving at the restaurant, we had to wait an awfully long time to order our drinks at the bar due to a long queue. When we finally got to the front of the queue, the reason for the delay became apparent… the gentleman we understand was the manager was very visibly inebriated, acting erratically and slurring his words. (Judging by other staffs reactions, this wasn’t a one off) We asked said manager to put our food order through, which he did… Incorrectly! When we finally received our correct food, most of it was extremely dry and disappointing. Made worse by our view of the courtyard with 3-4 rats scurrying around. Disgusting - many of us were put off our food. The poor staff were run ragged made only worse by their unprofessional managers state. Admittedly, the majority of the bar staff don’t deserve this rating as they did their best to pick up the pieces, but the whole experience was a disaster from start to finish. Definitely do not recommend.

Great food. Service is relatively fast, and staff are pleasant. A little pricey for a family of 4 but I think that's just due to the general cost of living.

Had lunch here while visiting a relative nearby. They do a great meal deal with a good selection. Its obviously very popular. Very pleasant and service is excellent.

Had a fabulous meal at the cedars. went with the wife and father in law. Ordered the special steak with a free bottle of red wine. steaks cooked to perfection. mine host Carl was as convivial as he always is and really cares about giving his patrons his full attention. Well recommend a visit .

Went to my Wife's cousins Birthday lunch on January 16th, there were 7 family members in total, the food and service were both excellent, none of us could fault it, the place was very clean and the staff were all friendly and efficient, I would not hesitate to go back for a meal again, keep up the good work!

When u order minted lamb chops and when it comes out the mint sauce bowl is bigger than the chops.... take away later...

I drunk a coffee here and I got sick afterwards. The bar side smells terrible like sewage. I ordered since I’m in already. I don’t know how they are washing dishes and what did they put inside the coffee. Hygiene rate should be “1” Absolutely disappointed.

Always get a nice meal here . We especially love their steak specials but I recently had their lunch special burger with bacon cheese - loved it

We were greeted as we walked in by friendly bar staff and pointed in the direction of the dining area it was ultra clean fresh nicely furnished, orderd the food and drinks arrived quick it was superb and plenty of it. Cant fault the restaurant would definitely go back again.

Family came down from Birmingham so we decided to take them to the Cedars. Had a thoroughly good time. Lovely meal, good atmosphere! Will be back for Xmas 👍

Had the steak deal again. Great value with drinks included. Very tender and the meal is always hot. Just wish they would have french mustard creamed pepper sauce not the hot sauce and the steaks were seasons more with black pepper.

19 people for my sons 16th birthday. Absolutely amazing , good quality value for money food. Great friendly service. For such a big party, it all came out hot and with 10 minutes of first to last meal. Highly recommend

friendly service and its quite clean in the food area but carpet is coming up in the ladies toilets I did tell them about it some time ago but nothing seems to been done its a safety issue as could quite easily trip over the carpet on the way in and it wouldn't take much to sort it out they could quite easily glue it back down or take the carpet up and lay tiles down or some other floor covering apart from that the toilets are quite clean considered its a very old pub but landlords are doing a great job in maintaining the place so 10/ 10 to them both and I will return when I'm next in Leicester

The pub is ok,but needs to train the staff better,as I asked for a drink and the staff said they didn't have it,I had to point the drink out on the shelf for them,as they didn't even know what it was🤦🏻‍♀️

Worse meal we have had at cedars acter coming for many years , sf chicken burger well over cooked , to hard to eat and could cut with a knife, bun/bread not even toasted , the middlesborough parma , wasnt butterfly chicken as stated but...

Booked a table for lunch. Ordered food from an extensive menu so hopes were high. Cutlery was brought to the table and 3 out of the 4 forks were dirty. Food arrived not the best I’ve seen or tasted. Sons cottage pie was sunk in...

We went here last night as a spare of the moment thing and can’t wait to visit again! With 3 adults & 5 children the Food was delicious, staff amazing and super prices. Would highly recommend a visit with such beautiful hearty food!
