This was our first visit but definitely won’t be our last. Great choice of dishes, not ‘run of the mill’. All reasonably priced. Lovely combination of flavours and beautifully presented. The room is large and airy with well-spaced tables giving a peaceful atmosphere. The waitresses were smiling and obliging. Altogether a lovely experience.

Cecil’s is stylishly decorated and the window tables have a great sea view. As guests of the hotel, we paid just £25 a head for 2 courses which we felt represented very good value. All of the food was excellent, especially the meltingly tender braised beef dish which we all had. The wine list is short and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly.

Although we were staying at another hotel in the area, we decided to have a meal at The Cecil. My wife chose something straight from the menu whereas I was a bit difficult. I fancied a starter as a main size meal. No problem! And it was perfect. Give this place a go. You will not be disappointed.

Sehr freundliches Servicepersonal.

An extensive menu with many original and unusual choices in all parts of the menu. We had a great meal. Whilst Cecils is part of The Weston Hotel it does have the feel of a modern and trendy Bistro, with good atmosphere. Good but reasonably priced wine list.

Visited this hotel for Sunday evening meal. Was recommended as it was close to were we were staying in a bed and breakfast hotel so didn't have facilities for evening meal. Never again and wouldn't recommend. It was terrible. Food bland and cold. I should have complained but didn't. . As soon as we went into hotel I didn't like the smell. It smelt like school dinners. Should have known to not eat there. One good thing a lovely waitress don't know the name.

My boyfriend and I had a meal at the Weston, with his parents who were staying for a few days. The hotel is beautiful, gorgeously refurbished, and someone has thought really hard about the design. We didn't know hotels in Scarborough (we just moved there recently) were as nice as this, and were prepared to come often for the odd drink and for meals, if our meal was as lovely as the decor. Unfortunately, they must have been having a bit of a bad night in the kitchen, although the restaurant was far from busy when we ate.One of our party had a broccoli and blue cheese soup for the starter that was extremely watery without the usual sharp flavours that you get with this type of soup, so that was our first heads up for the meal. The sweetcorn fritters and 'green salad' for the starter were more like fritters with a few bits of sweetcorn, and a handful of rocket and assorted green leaves that were more bruised than prepped. Some preparation may have been a little more effort, but might have made more of a positive impression. The worst situation came with the main course. First the good: The in-laws had a very nice braised brisket with mashed potato and gravy - braised brisket can't really be done 'wrong' as it's a long, slow cook, so that was fine and all good. My duck breast was tasty and not overcooked, although the piece of gristle at the end nearly required the Heimlich manoeuvre - however, I coped without making an idiot of myself, and the plate was a lovely fest of shaved beets, roasted onions, and delicious walnuts. However, I still don't know what the puree under the duck was (possibly celeriac?) because it was more water than flavour. The real sad situation was for the veggie in our midst. Credit to the hotel that they didn't advertise that meal as veggie, since it was covered in a cheese sauce that most likely had rennet in it .... however, firstly the 'pancake mediterranean canneloni' was the only main courses that didn't involve fish or meat. No proper veggie options at all. Secondly, it arrived completely swamped in a cheese bechamel sauce. No topping, no sign of what lurked beneath ... poor effort, Weston! Veggies like good food too! There are lots of good ideas on the web, or you could even buy your exec chef a Leon Fast Vegetarian cookbook for inspiration. Pulses, beans, grains - all these things can be used with very little fuss and they also freeze well in case you don't get many veggies in the restaurant. The pancakes were heavy, and they weren't rolled into tubes. We couldn't even identify if they were folded in some way, because everything was swamped in the infernal cheese gloop. The Mediterranean vegetables had only courgette and celery that could be identified, although they were pinkish, so probably there was some tomato in there. Might have been better to make actual canneloni, and stick something crunchy and cheesy on the top. We didn't complain because the in-laws were happy with their mains, and it would have been rude to moan at the people who were buying us dinner. Puddings were nice enough, but the lemon posset wasn't set except for on the top, so it was just cream with a lovely lemon taste. And finally, the after dinner coffee for two was served in a cafetiere for one. So there wasn't enough to go around. If the cups had been smaller, no-one would have noticed! Again, complaining would have seemed churlish, although I have worked in catering, and i know how useful feedback can be.I'm sure it was all just a bad night or something. The staff were lovely and welcoming and polite, and we drank plenty of wine and talked into the late evening, and weren't made to feel like we were holding everyone up, so that was nice. And of course, the rooms were excellent, and the whole of the hotel very nice. We will probably recommend it to people who want to stay near us in Scarbs, but I think we'll reserve full judgement on the food till another time, if that's okay.

We stumbled across this place whilst wandering around the old town. It’s near the swing bridge on Grape Street Small menu so we tried most of it - everything we had was great. Loved the kimchi dumplings and the sushi. The bowl of delight which I forget the name of was delicious as was the sweet chilli chicken. All freshly cooked and tasty! We will return to try what we missed!! It was very reasonably priced, friendly service and can’t recommend enough.

We accidently discovered this cafe while hunting around Whitby for something more "homely". The staff were very accommodating for our party of 7. They ensured we got seated and looked after us all the step of the way. The food was plentiful, tasty, and very reasonably priced. There was a good selection that suited both adults and children. If you want to avoid the mass of marauding tourists and seaguls. Take a stroll up the hill to Stokers.

Second time having breakfast at The Pines for me, third for my mum and brother with whom I come on holiday to lovely Filey. I can see how the local older folk love this little cafe but you don't have to be old to appreciate its charm or indeed a good, reasonably priced English breakfast. Malcolm is a great host with his cheeky banter!
