Staff display a lack of understanding towards speech impediments. I visited with a friend who struggles with this and was turned away from the bar after one drink apparently due to her speech which she cannot physically help/alter when she was in fact one of the most sober in the group. Very disappointed and disrespectful behavior and staff should consider this moving forward when serving

Average pub ruined by inconsiderate staff

Came to this establishment with a friend who struggles with a speech impediment. Despite being one of the most sober of the group, in the lady behind the bar decided to cut my friend off after feeling she had “had enough”. She had two drinks the whole night. My friend tries to explain her speech impediment, but the lady did not believe her when she explained it was a disability. My friend then asked to see the manager to discuss it further. The manager was also unfortunately not very understanding either. Feeling frustrated and insecure about how her speech was being percieved, my friend asks her partner to take over talking to the manager while we go outside and finish our drinks before we can leave. The next morning my friend leaves a very well deserved bad review on Facebook. The manager then decided to take it upon herself to reply to said review that it was clear to her that my friend had definitely had enough to drink and that “based on how she spoke to the members of staff she would be served no longer”. She was not rude or aggressive towards members or staff at all, she simply felt frustrated and upset that they didn’t take her seriously when she tried to explain her speech impediment and we left soon after. She is allowed to show agitation and annoyance at discrimination towards a disability she cannot control, the fact the manager would even reply to make comments about “how she was speaking” further is absolutely shocking. If your staff expects to be treated with kindness and respect, they really should be practicing that within their customer service themselves. “Warm and friendly pub”. Get real!

We used to live round the corner from here and came in all the time. We recently came back with a few friends. One of our friends had been drinking less than we had but has a speech impediment and was refused service at the bar because she was "slurring her words". Aside from that, the lady who served us was generally rude to our group. As I said, we were regulars but we won't be back now. They embarrassed our friend and left her in tears. Shocking behaviour.

It's a recently decorated cozy pub with reasonable prices. Plenty of parking.

My partner and I popped in on a Saturday afternoon as we'd seen the signs saying food was served Wednesday to Saturday and the reviews had looked good. When we arrived we were told "no we don't serve food today". Why do pubs do this? Advertise that they serve food on boards all around the outside of the pub then when you go inside the barstaff act like you are being weird for asking. Quick tip; Update your advertisements! Food and atmosphere is probably nice when they bother to serve it although the guy behind the bar didn't seem to know when this might be.

We have been for a Sunday dinner at the Cavalier in Ravenfield the past three weeks, there is a good selection of dinner sizes available, small for children, standard & large, all at very reasonable prices. All the vegetables are fresh, there is always a good selection of meat, and more importantly the Yorkshire puddings are all home made. Meals are also available during the week which are also very good and all home cooked. The selection of beers available is also very good with a range of hand pulled ales. Betty & Steve always make you welcome in there pub. It has recently been refurbished inside an out, including an impressive patio area and play area for children. Will definitely be back for more, thankyou.

The Sunday dinners are lovely, I went about 5 weeks ago and we go nearly every weekend now and it's allways nice.

The food was fantastic and very reasonable, I had to ask if they'd got the price right as didn't seem enough and no overpriced drinks either which just proves that it can be done. Staff very pleasant and definitely worth a re visit. Highly recommended. Dave n Nicole arrived 12.10 hrs / 22-10-17.

Just called in while our for a walk with our two children. Nice atmosphere so decided to order Sunday lunch. We orderedtwo adult and 2 kids. While waiting the table next to us had there food delivered.,we were quite pleased to see large portions for everyone, the adults on large oval plates piled high. When our food came however the adults meals were on the same sized plates as the other tables child meals and my kids meals were on tiny plates no bigger than saucers. Although a little disappointed, I just assumed that they had ordered a larger sized meal than us although when ordering we are only given the one option??. The beef on my meal was nearly all fat so I asked politely if it could be changed. This was not a problem and a couple more slices of beef were brought out. The meal was ok, nothing special but nothing I would complain about. The problem for me was when I got up to pay the waitress quoted 2 large meals and 2 small. I asked if they was only 2 sizes of meal available and she said, yes adults and child's. When I enquired why the table behind us had had much larger meals than us (the adults had large oval plates piled high and the children had the same sized plates as me and my wife had) she offered no explanation and said they were the same. The family behind us obviously were related to the waitress and hugged and kissed when they walked in. I know it's nice to look after your locals and family but to openly give them twice the size plates as the normal paying customers is a little too much for me. I will not be visiting again.

Just a regular local pub. Nothing too exciting but okay for a quick drink / chat with friends. They offer functions too and can do a buffet for birthdays etc.

It's a great place with a good atmosphere the landlady is a always game for a laugh there is a music quiz on Thursday night and a general knowledge quiz on Sunday. A recent upgrade to the outdoor space with astra turf and a beautiful patio area has made this place even more popular. At the moment the only meals are Sunday lunch which is highly recommended.

The new landlady since march has improved the pub no end , what used to be a sedate drinking establishment is now a friendly and lively place to be . Every week there is something new and exciting to enjoy , from pub quiz , game night and in house entertainment ( big shout out to Steve ) . Sunday dinners are to die for , can't wait for food all week .

We have been resident in Ravenfield and frequented this establishment for over 15 years, especially our traditional Christmas Eve get together with you there like minded friends from the village. I am disappointed to report that for the first time tonight's experience was absolutely appalling, from the way the young, inexperienced and aggressive staff dealt with us to the way the "owners" dealt with our grievance all the way to the lack of decent beers on offer. I usually have a passion for supporting local businesses above the multinationals but on this occasion I have resolved NEVER to visit this establishment again Merry Christmas to all at the Cavalier and I hope your disposition improves to those that are close to you and indeed those that you serve!

Called last week for Friday tea. They have just started doing food after taking over earlier this year. Nice homemade food, friendly staff and good prices.

The tennanted landlord does not give à toss for his customers. The pub is freezin with only cold water running in the taps. We vowed neva to go back there months ago and as locals we dont bloody miss it. I work too hard to give my money to them wasters. I feel sorry for the catering woman. Shes trying her best BUT she dont stand à chance with them losers. Go there at yr peril

After reading the other reviews I wasn't sure I was eating at the same place. My wife and I came here for a Sunday lunch on a Groupon offer. We had been held up by traffic and roadworks diversions so ended up travelling over 22 miles instead of the expected 11 to the Cavalier, so were quite late arriving. When we did arrive we were a little flustered and Lisa was excellent and couldn't do enough to ease us. We had starters. The service was excellent. My mushrooms were very good though not exceptional, and my wife's prawn cocktail was also good. The carvery meats were very tender even though they were all at the ends of the joints. However, the chicken pieces were dry. When we booked we explained about my wife's gluten intolerance and were told "No problem". When we asked about gluten-free gravy we were told they couldn't get any (Bisto Best granules, available at any supermarket all all made without wheat). Unlike the meat, the vegetables were all swimming in water, apart from the mashed potatoes. The carrots and tinned peas were edible but the sprouts and cauliflower were soggy and just awful. The cook brought some more out while we were at our table, which looked good and firm, until he proceeded to drench them in water from a kettle. In our opinion this was good food ruined. We didn't stay for a dessert as we couldn't face them, although I did note there was a good choice and was pleased to see that, unusually, hot desserts outnumbered the cold ones. We were disappointed, and I'm afraid that if the Groupon offer was designed to bring in new regular custom, then in our case it failed.

Have been to The Cavalier on several occasions, we love the food here. their weekly menu is great, tasty & value for money. We have also popped in for a Sunday Carvery and again we found it to be lovely. especially having 2 small children, we take full advantage of the meal deals on offer. couldn't recommend this restaurant enough

We visited today as a group on deal. 2 courses for 2 people. We had the carvery and steak pie then 2 puddings, there is so much choice. Food was tasty. Very very full up now! All the staff were great. we will return :)

One of our favourite pubs in rotherham. Really friendly and welcoming. Lisa's food is lovely, specially her pate and great value too. Can not recommend it enough

The Cavalier has just recently started serving foods again and it's terrific. Lisa - is the name of the owner of the food side in this traditional local pub and she really pulls out all the stops for a family meal. Our daughter is 15 months old and gets a little portion made for her while we are eating. The pate is out of this world as are the garlic mushrooms. Good honest food and the new Mega Mixed Grill will stop you in your tracks. A real treat
