A lovely little pub off the beaten track. A nice welcome from the landlady and a superbly kept pint of Abbot Ale. Lots of cat memorabilia around the old wooden beamed pub. A great find!

This is my "local" pub, despite being a 15 minute cycle (30 on the way home due to refreshment). From the exterior, you wouldn't know this is a pub, a quaint red bricked house. When you go inside it's such a cosy atmosphere. Oak beams across the ceiling, a roaring warm fire and a selection of beers and spirits. As this is a Greene King pub, you've got the usual; IPA & Abbot Ale. If ale isn't your thing, then there's Carlsberg & Becks. They have a section of home made sandwiches, plus a ploughman's - but once they're gone, they're gone. Crisps & nuts are available. Yes, this is a hidden pub in a rural village which is frequented by the locals, but it's worthy of a visit if you like quirkiness and cats, as there's paraphernalia around as a homage to the cat, often the landlady's moggy has a wander into the seating area and sits by the fire. If you want a try of something different in the Maldon/Chelmsford area - then give this place a try! 🐈

This pub will not please the majority. Just consider the No's; No loud music. No gaming machines. No 'Boil in the bag' / Microwave foods. No ice cold, gassy beers. No minimum wage, change every other day, see once and never see again staff. You have to be 'special' to be invited into this very unmodern, beautiful, ultra friendly world. If you love it, like the very many regulars you'll find it difficult to go anywhere else. If you don't then you'll only come once.

Me and my sisters came here for afternoon tea and it was one of the best I’ve experienced. There was so much food we had to take some home with us! The waffles were absolutely amazing, I haven’t stopped thinking about them since we left so I will definitely be returning! Great value for money and staff nice too. I would definitely recommend! :)

Just back from an excellent lunch after a lovely 6 mile walk starting and ending at The Queen Vic. Wonderful hospitality and the food was really good - very generous portions too.

A perfect stop off for all kinds of reasons, for a tea, coffee and cake break or a lunch or brunch munch… Wide selection of Sarnies to Salads, Panini’s to Pies, baguettes to Baked spuds…all served in warm inviting surroundings and friendly staff… Their main day menu with so many tempting choices or their intriguing monthly ‘Special's Menu’ , often with choices from around the globe… My ‘GoTo’ is often the ‘Breakfast’ Panini with sweet potato fries , if not tempted by their latest ’ Special’…! Always busy, always tasty. Every day of the week…!
