Well located just across the road from the Cathedral. The cafe is spacious, with plenty of room between tables and a variety of table and seating options. Service was friendly and the reasonably priced food and drink OK although panini, which came with a small salad and some vegetable crisps was a little disappointing. There is a gift shop in the cafe. Somewhere we would try again if in the area.

We went on a Saturday morning, we had reserved a table for 4 but it was not too busy at 10am. The cafe is very clean and spaceous with lovely views of the Cathedral. The service was very good, the waitress was very cheerful and helpful. The food was well presented and tasty, I had the Eggs benedict and it was delicious. There are also some lovely books, cards and gifts available in the shop. We left and on getting back to our car my grandaughter realised she had left a teddy in the cafe, her Mum then ran back and the lovely staff had not only found him but had also managed to send her a message on Facebook to tell her he was there and safe..how thoughtful and considerate.

A large airy space , with lots of natural light. There is plenty of space between the tables and the seating is comfortable too. Service is very efficient. Orders are placed at the counter at which time you will need to know your table number. This is a popular place and tables are not left empty for long. There is an extensive menu and a specials board too although as we discovered, the list is not updated so we'd recommend checking availability first before queuing up to avoid disappointment. Quality ingredients are used and the bread is lovely and fresh. Portion size is good too.

A very brief coffee stop here on the recommendation of others. The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly on a very busy Saturday. The coffee and croissants were very good. The range of meals on offer looked good and those we saw being consumed by people with a wide variety of ages seemed to be going down well. We were sorry we had to leave for an appointment and hope to visit again soon.

There is a lovely ambience in the newly spacious cafe, coupled to the delicious fresh food and genuinely friendly & helpful staff whilst, maintaining the Christian value. That they are now open Sundays with their new traditional Sunday lunch Menu is a God-send to many of us as Sunday is the day when everyone is already busy with their families. You would happily eat Sunday lunch here on your own without being out-of-place, whereas one would feel uncomfortable and/or conspicuous eating Sunday lunch alone in a pub. Excellent! Thank you.

After our second visit to the newly refurbished cafe we have decided no more! On the first visit I was told it was waitress service, then on the second visit, we waited at the table to be served until we realised is was no longer waitress service - no-one told us!! The teacakes ordered came burnt so took them back! The lady in charge has no customer service whatsoever, very abrupt and not friendly at all. A couple on the next table to ours got the wrong order and the lady in charge marched to the table to inform them that it wasn't her fault and the customer should have seen what she had written! I always believed that the customer is always right, no matter what!! Other friends have been in since the refurbishment and unfortunately the food is poor and there's no atmosphere,so they too are no longer going. Very sad as this Cafe was one of the best in Derby.

Enjoyed a great breakfast at the cathedral cafe during our stay in Derby, full English was of a quality many cafe's can only dream of (and only around £1 more) including a proper meaty sausage instead of the usual budget sausages served up at many cafe's, they also serve up a fantastic loose leaf pot of tea to wash it down with.

I popped in about 11 am for a coffee. There were only two other customers at that stage and two female members of staff. I sat at a table to look at the menu & wasn’t even acknowledged. Upon ordering at the counter, again no sign of being made to feel welcome.m - just stony faces, I ordered a latte and a cheese scone which were both dreadful. The latte tasted like a mug of hot milk that had simply had a spoon dipped into an espresso stirred through it & as for the scone, that was throughly bland and lacking, well in... cheese or any form of flavour & the butter pats were runny. Cost was just under £5. I won’t be going back.

When visiting Derby recently we decided to have coffee in the Cathedral Café, were served quickly with excellent coffee and resisted the temptation of the delicious looking cakes and pastries. However, after a walk round the shops we returned for lunch, which was really good. The home made quiche was really yummy, and had clearly been a favourite that day as it went quickly. Helping a friend do some Christmas shopping on a Monday we needed a place to meet and discuss tactics - close to Parksafe and Chapel Street parking and Sadler Gate with its range of individual shops I chose the Cathedral Café.Light and airy inside and very quiet to start with (late morning) the place did get busier towards lunch time.We had just a pot of tea for two and a toasted teacake each, pretty standard fayre delivered in vintage china. All quite acceptable, only gripe really was that there was only enough tea for a couple of the small china cups each - but I do like my tea and could quite easily had a third cup if it was available.

Slightly disappointed after an excellent weekday lunch here a while ago. I appreciate that Saturday lunchtime will be busy but was surprised that, when I arrived at 1pm, the baked potatoes had run out. Not the end of the world as the hot panninis were very tasty, although the salad (rather meagre portion) did not come with any dressing. As the staff were run off their feet, I felt a little awkward asking for dressing but did so and it came quickly. The cafe area used to feel more spacious - I think that the bookshop has spilled into what used to be part of the cafe and the tables now feel very tightly packed into the space available. There are some tables in the basement, accessed via a spiral staircase, where only a couple of tables were occupied.

I called in to this "coffee shop" after visiting the Cathedral one Monday afternoon. My husband was in Derby on business so I decided to have a stroll around the city as I haven't been for years since we moved from the area. On walking through the doors I was frowned upon by the staff as I dared to visit the toilet before actually buying anything!! I came out of the toilet and made my way to buy a Christening card as they seemed to have a lot of choice...my plans were to buy the card and then sit with a coffee to write a little letter in the card and then post it. Needless to say this didn't happen as I was quite clearly and openly watched and followed around the card display. I decided to leave the shop without any purchases of either card or coffee. I don't know whether the staff are paid or volunteers but maybe the powers that be need to find some new ones who don't judge people and treat people like potential thieves.

The white chocolate drink makes a delicious change to the brown variety.Speed of service is excellent, the staff work really hard. There are easy chairs and coffee tables as well as conventional ones and there is room down a spiral stairway for 'overspill' and for organised coffee mornings. All this is attached to a small bookshop. The Cafe allows you to pay for 'extra' drinks to be taken at any time by anyone who is in need of a hot drink but cannot afford one. Give it a try when shopping in Derby, enjoy the atmosphere and the food and drink, and leave a gift of a little hot comfort to help someone who is maybe less fortunate than yourself.

If you want a lite bite and a coffee this is a great place to call in. Lovely bookshop adjoins the café. Light and airy and adjacent to quality independently owned shops in the Derby Cathedral Quarter. Cakes and pastries a speciality

Have visited on numerous occasions and have always found the cafe welcoming, friendly and a pleasant place to visit. It isn't arty/trendy, (if that's the atmosphere you want) but is a good place to meet up, since it is not noisy and has good seating. I have always found it very clean, and the food display is fresh. The coffee is good, as is the food. I am teased about how fussy I am over where I eat, and I wouldn't go here if it didn't live up to expectations.

First off i would like to say how surprised i was to read the negative comments on here and really feel i must add my experence. I visted on thursday lunch time with a frend,we both had the parsnip soup,it came served with bowl of croutons, lovely fresh bread & butter,we also had tea,i was thrilled with the beautiful china teacup and saucer, fresh leaftea in its own teapot and was delicious, the staff were very attentive and helpful and we stayed a while chatting in a very relaxing atmosphere. The cake display looked so tempting so we tried the bakewell tart, what can i say, it was delicious and light,i also had a cappuccino so please give them a try when next in the area.We also noticed they do the suspended coffee idea, its where people pay £1 and they keep it back and give away a hot drink to homeless people who call in for a warm drink to takeaway. We had such a nice time i felt i wanted to give them a good review, they so deserve.

One of the best cups of coffee I have had in Derby, and certainly the best moist, enticing flapjack I have had anywhere.

We thought we'd give the cafe another chance to 'get' the gluten free offerings right but ,unfortunately, nothing has changed. We asked about GF - the waitress told us about he 'flapjack' but - and here's the frustrating thing - it is still in a container with other non GF food - so it was all rather disappointing and pointless. We were re-informed that the soup is GF and that they can offer GF bread rolls, but, to be honest, we felt that the overall attitude was.that they didn't really care either way.And that's a great shame because Derby needs somewhere (other than Jack Rabbits) at that end of town that can offer anything that is genuinely GF.

The visit started fine,a quiet cafe that looks appealing BUT that's where the good news ended. The tea cup my friend got was stained and even though the tea is leaf tea,the teapot was dirty and stained, I asked for a Latte but got something more akin to a cappuccino and the glass cup it was served in had greasy fingerprints on the glass. Yes, the cakes look fabulous BUT I picked the lemon drizzle,it was MOULDY on the underneath side. but this is where I gave up my friend wanted to complain but I had my fill of this place, so I left. With hindsight , I should have said something ,but, I felt that there was no point and voted with my feet.I won't be going back.

I visit this cafe regularly and find it consistently good. The menu is imaginative, beautifully prepared and presented by friendly and helpful staff and the prices are very reasonable for a City centre cafe.I feel that all the staff are proud of their workplace and look after it well. We, as a family, have always been extremely happy with our visits and will continue to use it in the future. I am determined to try ALL the cakes!

I was expecting something better than I got. The tables were sticky and stained and the impression I got was of a lack of pride. The food was of average standard but what stood out was the staff attitude... It was as if I was interfering in their private space, quite appalling.on top of which the member of staff was eating from the counter and swigging from a bottle of cola. I find off putting and unhygienic. It really did put me off my food. The only saving grace was the Bookshop adjoining this cafe.

Disappointed with this visit for a family get together for a meal and drinks. Very poor service throughout- had to repeatedly ask for service to order the meals and drinks. We sat near the bar and could see staff standing around but not serving clients. Two of us ordered a kebab meal off the special menu and were very unhappy with the quality of the food. Spoke to bar manager and this was removed from our bill which was good, however it left 2 of us eating much less and coming away hungry- not great after a ‘meal out’ This pub is 5 minutes walk away from my house. I’ve visited 3 times in the last few months, choosing different meals each time. I’ve been disappointed by each visit with the quality of food, but yesterday the service and food was very poor. I will not be visiting again for a meal until I hear the meals and service has improved

Situated on one of the main roads into Derby if you blink you will miss it. More of a takeaway cafe but there is very limited seating inside and a bench outside with parking at the rear. This little cafe stocks Project D doughnuts but get there early as they seem to sell out quickly.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today. Best Sunday lunch in a long time. Food was very tasty, good portions, meat very tender, I had pork, my daughter had beef & gammon. And above all crispy roasties. Staff were very friendly Would definitely recommend
