A lovely building let down by below average food at high prices. Came for breakfast, partner had a cooked breakfast and I had scrambled egg on toast.. the scrambled egg was so poor. It was so overcooked and dry it really wasn't enjoyable. The cooked breakfast was just okay but not worth the £12.50 price tag. It should have been a give away that the food wouldn't be so great given it's an open kitchen and you couldn't hear a single sizzle or smell any food being cooked. I'd guess it's all pre cooked and kept warm under a lamp. Wouldn't return.

Visited here for lunch on a recent visit to Derby with my partner and best friend. We were served by the eccentric Julia, who was very funny and quick witted. She made good conversation with all of us and was extremely friendly, efficient and a total Joy to be served by. The food was good but we had a long wait (although, to be fair, it was very busy for a week day) This is a nice place to go for a special treat, as we did, but if I was moving back to Derby, I do not think we would visit more that once a month or so, as it is rather expensive for a Cafe. Overall, we had an extremely pleasant experience as we had not been able to get to Derby for over 18 months.

I have visited many times but this place is on the decline, waiting for someone to come and serve me took much longer than usual and the place was half full. Another time the breakfast was awful, I asked for poached eggs on toast only to be told they do not do poached only scrambled. So I ordered a bacon sandwich, on brown bread. the bacon looked as if it had been cooked hours ago and the bread was buttered with a cheap margarine, it was awful and I could not eat it. you have a great catchment area but you food is poor, you need to seriously up your game and the prices charged do not reflect great food. Must try harder

This was my second visit to Hackwood Farm and whilst the staff were pleasent and the service was quick I was highly dissapointed at the prices on the menu. I ordered two slices of toast at a cost of £5.50, in my opinion this is an extortionate price for two slices of bread especially in comprison to Daylesford Farm Cafe in Notting Hill, a farm cafe I visited 2 weeks ago and only paid £5 for two slices of toast, a cost which i believe to be relative to that area. It baffles me that a farm Cafe in Derby can justify having higher prices than an exclusive farm cafe in the centre of London. I think it would be of great benefit for you to reassess the prices of certain items on your menu, the last thing you want is your customers walking away with the opinion that they have been unfairly charged.

I am writing to express my disappointment and concern regarding my recent visit to your cafe with my mum and gran. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. Firstly, we were given dirty cutlery, which was quite off-putting. It's important to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in a dining environment. Furthermore, after consuming our meals, both my mum and gran felt unwell. They experienced symptoms of food poisoning, which greatly affected our overall experience. To add to our disappointment, when we received the bill, we noticed that we were charged for four coffees instead of the two we had ordered.

Living locally, I love to support local businesses. I have visited with family and friends a few times over the last month. On each occasion, the greeting on arrival has not been warm, and you feel like an inconvenience. On my last visit the table where we were seated had crumbs on it and no staff noticed this, so I asked for it to be cleaned. The table was wiped but not thoroughly. When ordering food, there are always options which are not available, usually more than one. When food arrives, usually an item is missing. On a positive note food is good. There are always lots of staff around, some very friendly, others not so. The setting is lovely, however for me the service and attitude of some staff really let the place down.

After finding the place very difficult to find we finally entered hungry and ready for a hearty breakfast to finish off a fabulous couple of days spent with friends. Unfortunately, we were greeted by a very unwelcoming lady, (long dark hair not tied up) who quite frankly chastised us for having the nerve not to have booked. Something we were not aware was required. She did find us a table, although there were several empty ones throughout. We were all discussing how abrupt and unfriendly we found our initial entrance when the lovely Julia stepped in and saved the day. What a contrast. Lovely Julia greeted us with a smile and could not do enough. Service was swift and the food was lovely with large portions. A great ending to our get together. My daughter booked this for Mother’s Day afternoon tea. Fantastic building, the greeting for a special day was very poor. The seating was ok but next to the bar and rubbish down the side of the bar was the view from our table, The coffee was good, the sandwich’s were good if not a little big. The cakes were average. The scones were too big for afternoon tea, when we requested a box to take home we were told they had ran out and they would put in a bag??? Not a great option . As it was towards the end of the day although opened till 5 at 4.30 out came the mops and the clean down process as we were sat there, not really the best way to finish our afternoon tea!!! What a shame, the last customers should be treated the same as your first customers.

Safe to say, the staff had an absolute nightmare on the day of our visit. We visited at 12:30pm on a Saturday (so you would expect them to be prepared for a busy day with plenty of stock). When they finally came over to take our order, I requested the hot meat baguette. The girl went to check they still had it and returned confirming they didn’t have any beef but had pork. Three of us therefore ordered pork sandwiches. Some time later, they returned to tell us that they did not in fact have any hot meat sandwiches (sold out by 1pm on a Saturday!) My Dad and partner decided on a burger instead and I chose a special toastie (Cajun chicken). They returned again to tell us they also did not have any burgers so my Dad chose the same as me (cajun chicken toastie). They then returned AGAIN to tell us that they only had one cajun chicken toastie. I allowed my Dad to have this as he had already been let down twice and I accepted a different toastie (not what I wanted but at this point I was quite frankly fed up of waiting for food and we had an appointment to attend). Things got worse when our food arrived and my friend’s tuna toastie did not. When I checked where this was, they hadn’t even noticed that a meal was missing. It had clearly been missed off the order.l entirely. My friend then had to wait whilst we all ate. My partner also ordered some chips which never turned up. We were not asked how our meals were or offered any sauces/extras (I think the staff were embarrassed to return to our table after all the issues). The food was nice when it arrived but we were in a massive rush due to the huge delays in being able to order so could not enjoy it thoroughly. We had high hopes for this cafe given that it has such good reviews and has won awards. I personally would not recommend to anyone based on our experience. The only saving grace was that the staff took money off the bill at the end. I hope for the company’s sake that this was a one!

Been here several times and it's jst another pretentious cafe with employees who will ignore you and ir be rude to you. The food I've had there has been awful quite frankly. The food that wasn't bad wasn't even anything special for the price point. Trying to be trendy and different dosnt equal good. To make matters worst the last time my wife was in, our son wanted some chocolate cake and thier was only a very small piece left, the lady said she wouldn't charge it and that they could have it, which was really good of them, right? Well turns out that she did charge and at full price for a 1/4 of what the slice should have been. Unfortunelty my wife had her hands full with the little one and didn't notice till she got home. We'll done! you may have gotten away with it, but uve lost our families business forever.

It’s a shame this place has potential but its staff are controlling and don’t listen well to what you want. Orders were wrong, staff weren’t paying attention and on two occasions we were basically kicked out by them saying ‘would you like the lunch menu’ after ordering breakfast plus ‘this table is booked in 5 mins’. If you stay too long (in our case 1.5hours) then you’ll get hassled to leave so they can fill the table even though the whole room was empty. My first bad experience put me off returning but my friend suggested I give it another go as places can have off days so I went again two weeks later. No difference. I’m not going back

As usual the ambience and surroundings were excellent and this continued with the l service. The food as always contains quality ingredients. Our issue is with ‘shrinkflation’. We ordered 2 farmers wife breakfasts , as usual at £10.95 each, but we have now noticed both the sausage and the single piece of bacon are now 2/3rds of the size they used to be. The plate now contains a large tomato, a large mushroom, a container of beans and one very thick slice of toast all of which , I believe, is to bolster the plate with the sausage and bacon now reduced in size. Overall excellent quality but poor value for money now.

This place is adorable! When we arrived the rain was terrible, and it would have been nice if we had had a warm greeting but this was not the case. Good menus (maybe a bit pricey however the surrounding are wonderful). Our waitress took our order. My friend asked for crispy bacon I specifically asked for my bacon not to be crispy. When my breakfast came the bacon was like a burnt offering. At my request she did change it but she wasn’t very gracious about it. When we asked for more coffee the order was wrong. Again no “ oh I’m sorry” more like I guess I can change it…. The last straw was when she said “ this table is reserved in 10 minutes.” Ok fair play, however she could have offered to move us to another table especially as the entire back room was empty. What a shame the surroundings are really nice if only the food and service match. I am happy to pay a bit extra however I am not happy to pay where I do not feel welcome!

Hackwood Farm is in the middle of a new housing estate so it seems like you're in the wrong place until you see the old farm buildings. There is an outside courtyard (that could do with sprucing up a bit) and a really nicely done interior eating space. Staff were very friendly, service was very good. The full breakfast, and slightly smaller farmer's wife variant were both greeted enthusiastically. The Veggie version was good apart from the two small, very hard veggie sausages (change needed). Cherry scone for afters was excellent and all the cakes on display encouraged a return visit. Coffee was good but at nearly £4 a cup on the pricey side. But overall well worth visiting.

Visited the Bistro at the farm for the first time. Had limited expectations to be honest after a couple of disappointing morning visits to the cafe (to be fair as it was so busy staff and kitchen couldn’t cope) but we were really blown away...

Dreadful service. I’m vegetarian and they brought me the wrong meal. I then had to wait around 15 minutes for my meal. Embarrassing for the other three. The waitress was asked three times for cutlery, so my friends’ food was getting cold. My meal was half a carved out vegetable (?) filled with quite tasteless tomatoes and peppers. We ordered dessert but gave up as nothing appeared. DON’T GO HERE IF YOU’RE VEGGIE. Very disappointed and definitely don’t recommend.

We’d booked online without issue. All of us had dined a number of times at the Cafe before it evolved into the Bar and Bistro as well. This was our first visit since it re-opened The entrance isn’t marked very clearly. Upon entering, it is clear it’s maintained it’s charm and character inside. The decor and aesthetic are perfect for the style and history of the site We were led promptly to our table after the Server checked it was ready for us, and once seated our drinks order was taken soon after Our food order was taken and we relaxed with our drinks. The Bistro was busy, with a nice atmosphere. It was comfortably warm too, well lit, and nicely laid out Our food came on unnecessarily large plates. It was well presented, and the sides of green veg were fresh and perfectly cooked. The Cauliflower Cheese was gorgeous (and plentiful) too. As for the Roasts, the portions were bang on, with enough gravy too, and everything was hot. We weren’t offered and sauces, though thankfully none of us wanted any Staff checked back to ask how the food was. When clearing the plates, we were offered more drinks and the Dessert Menu. We all looked at the menu and ordered shortly thereafter Desserts took a while to come out. They looked lovely when they arrived (better plate sizing this time). They could have been hotter, but were fine to eat. I had the Apple Crumble Tart which tasted lovely, but the pastry and crumble topping were both dry We had to catch someone’s attention to ask for the Bill once everything had been cleared from the table. Bill and card machine were presented shortly thereafter, and payment taken A lot of the staff are young. All seemed nice enough, but there was very limited interaction with us - transactional as opposed to conversational Overall, we all enjoyed our visit, and would likely return We used the Toilets whilst there. They were well lit, clean, stocked for use, and smelled fresh Sunday Lunch - 4 adults - 2 courses each - Food and Drinks - February - £31 per person

Brilliant - lovely place, great service (it was very busy when we went, but the staff were still good at keeping us updated and apologising for the slight delay), very good food, and a lovely setting and atmosphere. Dog-friendly too.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere - a nice quiet restaurant side and a more lively bar side. Good beer garden. Dog friendly (but not allowed in the restaurant so still friendly to people who don't want dogs running around). Excellent sunday roast and regular menu is delicious too. Really recommend, especially if you're local but even if you're not - its only a few minutes walk from the sixes and allestree bus stops.

We've been coming to Bear a few years now and we usually love it!… however, over the past few months we’ve noticed it’s just not the same service. 👎 One of the visits to mention was last week. We popped in to pick up a coffee to go. It seemed pretty quiet… yet it took a lady 15 minutes to make us one coffee? It looked like she was also attended to another drinks tab?..yet there was another lady stood putting glasses away…. Why is your staff find cleaning glasses more important than a paying customer? Do these staff members not want a business to thrive? We were stood there so long. When we finally got the coffee, we got no apology for the insanely long wait. In fact it looked like we inconvenienced her. Perhaps a lesson in customer service would benefit a few of the staff? Such a shame! :(
