Great steak and homemade pie, service was friendly and the food was good value.

Second visit and the food was lovely again. The homemade chips are to die for! We where made very welcome by the lady behind the bar who made an extra effort to please my nephew who doesn’t leave hospital very often so as a treat for my sister we chose here for her birthday meal. Weather was lovely and we sat outside with the kids and we all had a super time thank you

Have eaten here a few times now and the standard of food is brilliant and the prices are very reasonable. The inside of the pub could be decorated better/modernised but I recommend giving it a try for a meal.

We travelled up from down South & to save my mum making a dinner when we got to Ryhill nipped into the Catchpenny were pleasantly surprised to access a roast on a Monday ( turned they offer it daily) it was delicious & the price was outstanding! . In our local just for a Sunday roast is £20 and here for 2 roasts and a pint of cola & cider was £21 odd . The decor could do with a spruce up if we are being picky but the food for taste & value was first class . Oh and the dog was allowed in as long as she behaved! . Which she did

Best £9 I have ever spent Sunday dinner on a Monday. Its £7 normally but I went large!! This is a Monday night deal only. The better half had a beef baguette and fries and assured me that was great. Beer offers Tayors landlord ale £2:15 a pint. Absolutely nothing not to like.

First time at the Catchpenny, really friendly service, felt really welcome....the food was amazing, great flavours and really fresh, the portions sizes were also generous .....the loaded fries are really loaded. Will definitely be going back

10 of us went in to night booked a table originally on line for the steakhouse got there that was closed so in main bar area fair enough then we find the menu on line is not the menu on offer very miss leading but well ,we are hungry. So we order of the menu there is ten so one hour passes finally the 3 starters arrive they are tasty. Then mains not complicated two beef sandwiches 20 minutes later another two chips and side 30 minutes later after asking then the rest of the mains one been a chicken wrap nearly a30

This is so disappointing to have to write as a local born and bred in the area! The food we have just had was an absolute joke... We are a family of five and been to the catchpenny regularly. I have grown up in the village and have been many times before sometimes it's hit and miss but tonight has made us not want to go for food ever again. It wasn't busy so didn't expect to wait so long for our food, when it finally came it just wasn't worth the wait or the money we paid. Our daughters ordered kids burger (no kids menu just told what was available) and it was horrible, infact I'm almost certain she was given a vegan burger. It just looked like a chopped up slammed down piece of over cooked quorn mince. I tasted it and it didn't taste of beefburger (which we have previously had no issues with) Ordered homemade chips with cheese on, literally all dark brown inside and out like old potatoes that has been cooked and cooked again... My sons got goujons and chips and had about 12 chips, I ordered the beef baguette (again I've had before with no issues) and it was all cheap stringy fatty meat like what you get for boil in the bag food?! I got potato skins also which were clap cold and unenjoyable Why didn't I complain?! What's the point 🤣 we have complained previously was given a moody apology and nothing's changed. the staff look miserable and mad as soon as you walk in the door... We had to ask for cutlery and condiments when we questioned why it was taking so long (which if busy I could totally understand) but to wait so long for cold horrible food was so disappointing for our 'treat meal's out. If we were asked did our food was ok I would have told them the issues but we were so hungry we ate what we could and left. We didn't stay for kids desserts that were supposed to come.with kids meal (they used to but again no kids menu and no mention of if they kids wanted desserts) As stated, we are local we've been numerous times and I'm not sure if the chef has changed or people just can't be bothered but it was terrible, so terrible we said we wouldn't be going for food again. The drinks are fine, not a problem and would go for a drink again but never for food. It's gone so downhill and it's so sad when it used to be such a good option for socializing/eating/drinking and to take our children for a treat after school. Poor service, miserable staff/management/horrendous food... Some time and thought seriously needs to be put into what is being offered because compared to how it used to be it's dire. We spent £20 on drinks and £50 on food which isn't a small cost for a hard working family - this place should be the heart of Fitzwilliam and it's not due to things like this...

We used to eat there a lot and the food was always good but not now. We had the pies which were so dry and pastry was really hard . Shame really as it’s a nice place but won’t be eating there again.

My husband and myself called in last weekend for a bite to eat, we ordered at the bar and returned to our seats. At the end of the bar we’re 3 men, coughing and talking loudly to each other , one actually sneezed onto the bar where the barmaid had left the clean cutlery that she was wrapping into napkins. I found this disgusting as we were waiting for our cutlery to arrive with our food. Why the staff left the clean knives and forks where people we’re a few inches away , spraying their germs all over them was unacceptable. Safe to say , we won’t be returning

A nice, clean, dog friendly pub. Went on a bank holiday Monday. Ordered food which took close to 2 hrs to arrive. Thankfully, we were not in a hurry that day,

It's a bank holiday and we arrived around 2pm it took over an hour for our food to arrive which wasn't exactly as advertised - the fishcakes had no tartare sauce and no sign of the prawns the burger was juicy and tasty. We weren't in a hurry so we waited but it did seem excessive for fairy standard bar snacks

The good reviews must be for the evening restaurant because he staff here couldn't give a hoot for you. Didn't even ask if the food was ok for us as they must know it's garbage.

I'm sure on an evening its quite lively but the afternoon we popped in it was very quiet and not for me.

Just had Sunday roast, proper roast beef loads of fresh vegetables, roasted potatoes and parsnip! Yorkshire puddings massive and tasty! I had nut roast, the best I’ve ever had! Tried not to order pudding ! But we could see them flying out of kitchen omg … chocolate fudge cake and ice cream amazing, sooo chocolatey, then the honeycombed cheesecake! Excellent value for money, staff obviously a very happy bunch, made us all so welcome!

I phoned on three occasions but received no promised call back, so my husband went in to try to book a table for five that w/e. Unfortunately he was informed they don't actually do a Sunday Carvery, so we had no choice but to book elsewhere.

First class Sunday roast with beef and Yorkshire pudding. Started with an old favourite, prawn cocktail ! Table service was lovely with all food and drinks brought to the table. Very pleasant visit.

Went for a Christmas bottomless brunch with the ladies and the food was absolutely fantastic. Will 100% be visiting again - I hope that the bottomless brunches become a regular offer. Best bottomless brunch I've had.

Me and my Grandad come here regularly for a meal and the food is beautiful; well-presented, tasty and value for money. The staff are all lovely and go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible and always have a smile on their face. I was introduced to this pub last year after they hosted my Nans wake and have been back ever since. Couldn't recommend enough!

Unbelievably Amazingly well cooked Sunday Dinners here!!! We chose the Turkey dinner & and it did Not disappoint proper home cooked flavours👌 One of the of the Best we’ve had in a long time!! It’s a must try if you like great cooking. @QueenOfCastlesLeeds

Just stopped for a quick coffee

Called in for lunch and a drink at 12pm on a Thursday before catching our train. Two of us shared a cheese and ham toasted sandwich, a beef baguette, fries and sweet potato fries. The food was fresh and really good. Two mains, two sides and two drinks for less than £35. Plenty of others in the pub for a Thursday lunchtime and very friendly service. Fitzwilliam station is only a 10 minute walk so perfect place to come for some dinner or a drink to pass the time until your train is due.

On a super busy Sunday the staff managed to squeeze us in (two walk ins) - unbelievable experience super friendly & just look at the pictures hosted for the chicken + roast beef dinners we ordered. Everything tasted so good so FRESH!!! We actually took a walk over to the open plan kitchen to than the chefs personally for their amazing efforts. Fantastic staff and customer service. Plenty of parking. I believe expensive on looking at other similar offers. That said would recommend as food is good quality.

Rang up for a take away - Very rude person answered was told not doing take out any more then told I’d have some one ring me - Then phone got put down. I went in asked to order a take away was told it would be ‘10 minutes’ wait - which was actually 45minutes if I’d have known I’d have cooked myself. Why would I wait 45 minutes for lasagne? £42 for 3 meals - extortionate for the level of service. Wasn’t even offered a drink for the delay in wait for my food. Shame as like to support local places! But won’t be returning!

Had chicken burger with chunky chips. Excellent food staff were attentive once we got their attention. Good parking facilities.

Stopped in on way from Nostell Priory. Hadn't booked but its probably best to do so as its popular. Very good Sunday roast, reasonably priced and very tasty. There was a wait but everything was lovely and hot, beautiful piece of beef. Friendly service. Really good value

Went for lunch today and was very disappointed the food was cold, hard and was extremely disappointed as usually its a lovely place to eat ....don't know if it was a different chef but the beef was chewy and over done and the boiled veg inedible left nearly all of it.

I visit the catchpenny quite often to eat both in the week and sundays i would just like to say what a efficient job that zoe does.she is always very welcoming and friendly and always makes time to speak to you she also runs a very efficient bar and restaurant and i would recommend anyone to try there food and meet zoe

I had the mixed meat Sunday dinner. It was beautiful and more than plenty to eat. I had the regular size. Someone on another table had a large and this looked like a shared platter it was that big. The staff were really friendly and efficient as well. I had a starter, the dinner, and one soft drink for just under £20.

Never been to this pub before, all five of us ate there and the food was excellent. Three had dinners ( one Xmas, 2 course's £16, two had the catchpenny roast of the day, one of which had three meat's that cost a pound more than having one meat, two of us had burger's, huge.) Service is friendly and polite. Would go back.

We have a team lunch once a month and usually visit the same couple of local pub/restaurants, and they are normally ok. But we decided to try somewhere different and chose to check out The Catchpenny instead.. we definitely made the right choice! We visited at lunch time on a Monday, it was a great menu with plenty of options and everything we ordered was fantastic, it looked great, tasted great and was an absolute bargain price, especially considering the quality of the food, which was A+! we will be back.

Visited for dinner after going to Nostell Priory and was served the most delicious roasts and pies. The ham roast was divine, service great and portions were spot on. We got 4 meals and 4 drinks for less than £50. We’re not from the area but plan on coming back. Thank you for a lovely meal, would give 6 stars if I could! 😊

Today was our second time visiting the Catchpenny, it’s a great pub/restaurant that is local to Nostell Priory which we had been to prior to here, both visits working up an appetite. Both times we managed to get a table on the day, and both times we brought dogs! Place is really dog friendly, in the bar/pool area. Sunday lunch was great both times, great menu selection and drinks options including alcohol free options for drivers! Plenty of parking, friendly staff and good grub. What’s not to like! We will be back, probs on our next trip to Nostell Priory!

Wow. Great food, lovely staff and nice atmosphere. Came for carvery and it was fab. All four of us had something different. Pie, Sunday roast and vegetarian nut roast all great. Fresh, tasty and good portions. And the home made apple crumble was perfect. Looking for good food and good value? Stop looking and come here !

Came on a Sunday in the restaurant, Pie and mash was exceptional with a fantastic atmosphere and amazing service. Would definitely recommend anyone looking for some good food for a reasonable price.

Went here last night for a meal and what a mistake, I ordered a steak and wasn't even asked how I would like it done, my partner ordered a burger and today been sick and toilet al day like me...do not recommend this place AT ALL .

Very friendly, good atmosphere, didn't try the food but plates coming out looked good.

Just been to Catch Penny, never been before and won't be going back Ordered our mains to be told they had run out of pulled pork, that's fine no problem. Then on ordering our sweets, we were told that the chocolate cake we ordered was mouldy , my daughter ordered sticky toffe pudding , they had run out of that. Not a good experience. 😕

Meat pie is great. John Smiths is well kept and roast beef sandwich is great too.

Calledat the catchpenny today for a Sunday dinner I was very disappointed with a 150-minute delay after eating our starter then when the food actually came it was Stone Cold would not recommend the catchpenny

What was shown on their website was not what was available on the menu. As a pub lunch it was good, but their website gave the impression that it was more. Staff however were really nice. (staff get 5 stars)

One of our party was in a wheelchair. There is quite a slope to the entrance so hard to push the wheelchair back up it. Also, it was a struggle to get wheelchair through the doors of the toilet so not very wheelchair friendly. The food was basic but tasty. Staff were pleasant and friendly.

Visited several times for evening meals and on each occasion never had cause for complaint. Good food and reasonable prices. For first time today my wife and I called in for lunch and had a sandwich each and couple of drinks. Very positive experience and really enjoyed sitting outside in the beer garden. One minor suggestion would be to keep an eye on the discarded rubbish in the garden - first impressions etc! Thanks, will definitely be back

Has changed hands since my last visit, the menu has changed I don't think for the better. Price is about average.

Despite other reviews, we found the food lovely the roast dinner was massive lots of veg plenty of meat. Waiting staff were attentive but not over powering. Kids burger served just like a smaller version of an adult meal

Good beer, nice atmosphere, good singer

Me and my partner have been passing this pub since we moved close to the area. Outside looks amazing with plenty of beer garden seating and I imagine a lovely atmosphere, though inside I beg to differ. Inside looked dated and did not look like the pub advertised - the seats were near enough black, looked like they should have been beige, table was sticky and the decor was awful. The starter to share was lovely, we had the pork belly and cannot fault it. Mains however were bad. Had the fish and chips, very bland and no taste. The curry was chicken tikka and not the thai green which is on the menu - not an issue, however the curry was tasteless and way over cooked, and within the rice there was 16 cardamom pods. Having worked in the hospitality business for over 20 years between us, just a smile and nice attitude goes a long way, fyi.

Been a while since we've come here, used to be a nice carvery byt had a terrible Sunday dinner today. The chicken was inedible, cheap beef and cold veg with lumpy mash. And worse of all for a Yorkshireman, the gravy was just brown water.

New management,delicious food,good service cheap as chips,cant understand why it was so quiet on a saturday night.deserves to be much busier.

Popped in for a quick lunch and had a feast. Ham sandwich with gravy.....it was like a mini roast! Plus service with a smile.
