The Catch Traditional Fish and Chips in Hastings

Can't compare to anywhere else nearby as we were only down there for 4 nights and was the only place off site we got food from but what we had was good value for money and the member of staff was polite who served us. I went on a Thursday to get the food and I was the only one in there at the time but during busy periods there could be the chance of feeling cramped. I would probably give this a 3.5 rather than a 4 but it's better than a 3 so decided to go up rather than down.

Nice little chippy just outside Combe Haven Holiday Park. They had no Rock/Huss our fish of choice, so I ordered 2 regular Cod, it was cooked to order, slightly heavy batter, tasted very good, we shared regular chips, luckily as it was a very big portion.

Have had good fish and chips previously but this time more batter than fish, not impressed as this seems to be the most popular one in this location, had to queue for approx half an hour

I loved it! Despite it being young lads in there, they were really nice and polite. The food was lovely, definitely recommend!!

I went in; ordered and paid but the servers were more interested in talking gym and the price of tren going up than cooking the food. When I asked where my order was after half an hour but i was shouted at by a staff member, talk about roid rage!! I asked for his name but he wouldn't tell me. Later I was told by a different member of staff that his name is Kyle, what a rude person. When I recieved my food it was stone cold. Will not visit here again!!

First time we had tried this place. Sunday evening and very few places deliver so we were delighted to see we could get a fish & chip supper from The Catch. We ordered a meal for 4 people to be delivered at 7.30pm. Received confirmation, then a text at 7.30pm to say it was being cooked and would be with us at 7.45. At 7.45pm we had the plates warmed, the drinks poured and 4 very hungry people. Then a message saying 'your order has been cancelled'. I rang the restaurant and was told it was nothing to do with them as they use 'Just Eat'. They said they couldn't deliver and they were now closed. When I said that my order was with them, the guy put the phone down. That's one chippy we won't ever be trying again.

The Catch was not a catch at all. The fish was overcooked, the chips had been cooked to many times and were still hard. And the young lads behind the counter were more interested in talking about the gym rather then serving the customers waiting outside. Shame really as it looked very nice from the outside

Had cod & chips from here yesterday, was very disappointing, smallest pieces of fish ever & at £6.80 wasn’t exactly cheap. Had fish from here before & has always been beautiful!

Lovely evening so sat on bench outside the shop to eat our fish and chips, Had to wait, which was fine, meant freshly cooked!

Great in every way....between West St LEONARDS shops and aldi. At foot of harley Shute Road...Good amount of parking and superb fish and chips with wide menu...very clean and food nice and fresh...staff very friendly and most pleasant...cannot fault in any way....Good sized portions...so be ready for aood nosh

Rude - hung up on customers. Online has wrong closing time wasting peoples time and also when I went in at 8:30pm they said it’s closed - perhaps you should close your doors and update your opening hours on Google , Tripadvisor and everywhere else. You could of kindly said on the phone instead of hanging up on me.

The chips were as good as all the reviews say. The portions are as huge as all the reviews say. 1 large portion was more than myself and 2 teenagers could eat together. Staff really friendly. Prices are a little higher than other chip shops.

Visited the catch a few months ago 2 young chaps cooking and serving really polite and fish and chips cooked to perfection went yesterday different chap serving and cooking and probably the worst fish and chips I’ve had. Soggy chips, bendy batter on the fish...

Once again the fish and chips do not fail to be the best that you will find and definitely recommended that you try the food from here as you will not be able to beat it in Hastings.

My family have lived in the area for years and we always order from here, good quality food at the right price and the portions well there on the money if you haven’t eaten all day this is the place for you fills you up, there regular chips are a like a large, I won’t use any other place for my fish and chips, Spot on!!

Very rainy day but yet this place was quite busy at around late evening when we went there as we've been recommended by the holiday park near the shop so we thought we'd give it a try, went there with my partner it was quite busy at that time. At first we had a feeling it wont be the best as the fryer was a young lad so we thought the quality wont be as what we get where we are from but yet we were both shocked with my partner as we ordered 3 portions of fish and chips with a regular huss on the side and some quater chicken, the fish and chips was absolutely lovely fish was nice and crispy cooked perfectly. We will come again on our next year trip and we hope to see the same stuff very nice place.

We were staying on Combe haven and their fish and chip van was closed. We were recommended The Catch by a member of staff. The fish and chips were lovely and the portions were a good size.

Absolutely rank. Chips were cooked in reheated oil (god knows how old but tasted disgusting) fish was ok but again, same oil. Portion sizes were huge but even the dog wouldn’t eat it as it tasted so bad! Didn’t even eat 3 chips and peeled all the batter from the fish to be able to eat something! Visiting the area so looked at a quick tea take out on arrival day. Do not waste your money

The food in my opinion is not small portions and is definitely of a good size as we went here this week. Great food and great service and the best chip shop in Hastings and Bexhill by far. Recommended Enjoy

Went in there with my friend to get some fish and chips for the evening, we went around the early evening it was very busy ordered regular fish and chips along with some quater chicken and souther fried burger quality was excellent. We were suprised how busy the place was and considering the short wait it was 1 of the best fish and chips ive had in a long time. Hats off for the lads in there very nice food.

We stopped here on our way home from a day drip to the coast, the staff were friendly and polite, made sure we had every thing we needed from napkins to forks and advised where the best spot was to gain access to the beach to eat our supper! We all thoroughly enjoyed or fish and chips and they were cooked to perfection. I would definitely recommend. Prefect end to a lovely day out.

It amazes me how people can complain in their reviews about having to wait a long time - the food here is cooked freshly to order and to do that then there may be a bit of a wait, but this is never too long and you are always advised of this beforehand.

I should start my review by saying that I travel the country continually for work... Every time I’m by a seaside it’s gotta be fish and chips, but I rarely review much on trip advisor anymore.

I would just like to say that The Catch should never get a bad review. I run my own coffee shop and I can tell you that all the staff are doing s perfect job. If you want freshly cooked and good quality food then you have to be patient and wait. I have never had anything but excellent food from here and sometimes I don’t need a larger portion of chips and they do a £1 portion for me. I don’t and will not go anywhere else for my fish and chips. Also, everyone is so polite and helpful and they always let you know how long it’s going to be and where you are in the queue rather than let you stand there just waiting.

I had heard a lot about this chip shop but was left disappointing. The food was OK but the service is awful and slow and we were over charged as they messed up the order.Its also not always easy to park outside being on a corner. In short there are better places to go.

We tried this place last week for 4 adults 2 children.

Every now & again I get large fish & large chips on the way home from work. The fish is always freshly cooked & the portions are big enough to feed two people. We have always thoroughly enjoyed the food we have got from here, which provides good VFM. The service is also very good. I have no hesitation in recommending The Catch to you.

We always get our fish and chips here and always loved it. We've chosen here over other nearby fish and chip shops because the fish has always been fresh ,not too greasy and they always give so many chips for a standard portion! However, the last 2 or 3 times we've eaten here the fish has not been nice at all, really chewy and dry. And the chip portions have gone down! We may have just been unlucky as I can see the past few reviews have been good. We used to only use the catch,however this won't be the case any more sadly:(

When we have to drive down to Leonard on Sea to pick up a fire surround we bought, we decided to have fish and chips before we return home. So we stoped at Catch in Leonard on Sea, bought fish and chips. It was the best fish and chips we had for a long time. Batter was thin and crispy, cod was fresh, chunky and flaking inside. Chips were nicely fried . So it was great food. Thank u guys.

Visited whilst at Combe haven holiday park.... stone throw away from where our caravan was. The quality of the food was just perfect, the fish was so huge, and the prices were so fair for what it was and how much you got

Fantastic food for a takeaway. A good choice on the menu with good portions. Stayed at the local holiday park and tried this chippy, to say the food was good is an undrestatement, because my wife will only eat chips once every now and then but in the week we were there she had chips on 4 occasions in 7 days,they were that tasty. Well done to the Catch and its staff.

The fish and chips here are great. Good size portions, freshly cooked. Brought from here twice whilst spending a week at Combe Haven (close by).

Went here with my four children for lunch. All my children could say was that it was the best chips they have ever had!! Absolutely excellent food and excellent customer service. Reasonably priced aswell! Would definitely come back again!

I have to say we were on holiday in Hastings and we found this fish and chip shop, we had 6 lots of yummy chips with 6 sausages some battered, there was more than we needed big portions, there was a really long cue but the food was so worth the wait, 100% would recommend this to everyone who visits, the manager was so funny to full of banter and we loved that, so if your on holiday and staying at haven holidays turn right out of the gate and it right at the bottom of the hill amazing food and great staff will defo use again next visit thank u xxxx

Friendly staff, served us really tasty chips very reasonably priced. There was seating outside where we sat to eat. The place seemed really clean would definitely recommend. We are only at Hastings on holiday so might have to grab some more chips for our journey home!

2nd time visiting this place and quality didn’t disappoint - battered cod was tasty, fresh and delicious- no empty plates - chips were very the same too.

It was a real treat to find this fish & chip shop while on our way into Hadtings for lunch. Wonderful service from start to finish with our order freshly cooked while we waited. Delivered in a box to seating outside where we couldn’t wait to tuck in. Jon the owner checked that we were completely happy with our order and everything was as requested. A fabulous experience and we would all thoroughly recommend this fish & chip shop if you want good fresh fish and nicely cooked chips. Other items such as pies and sausages available but if you want English Traditional Fish and Chips then look no further than The Catch. Extremely large portions so 1 portion of chips would be enough for two people.

Yet again they served a great Fish Cake & Chips (see photo) which were all cooked fresh to order - not something that you get in many chip shops nowadays

We always go to this fish and chip shop when we stay in Hastings, it's the best fish and chips around. They always cook everything fresh so I don't mind waiting. The staff are very friendly and chatty. Would recommend this place to anyone staying nearby to try, you won't be disappointed!

We ordered cod and chips and rock and chips. The fish was fresh in just the right amount of batter and the chips were really nicely cooked. Very friendly service.

Spent the weekend at Combe Haven caravan site....which has no on-site fish and chip shop.

For £11 we had 2 cod pieces and the largest portion of chips we have seen. All hot and perfectly cooked and tasty. We were surprised we ate all the chips but they were so nice we couldn't leave any. Friendly, polite staff where nothing is too much. Cannot wait to stay in Hastings again for another helping. Well done guys.

Really great owner cooks the food to order great price great food been back numerous occasions, parking outside ideal for passing traffic, would definitely recommend a visit.

Since it has been taken over and given a new name, it cannot be faulted.

This should be ranked as number one in Hastings as it definitely ranks above the rest of the fish and chip shops for value, freshly cooked food and great service - you really must try it here

Whatever you want, it is freshly cooked to your order and even though you may have to wait a little while, it is definitely worth it
