The Catch in North Norfolk

Half-hour wait for a fish butty consisting of a dry bread roll and a wafer-thin piece of cod as tough as old boots. Genuinely can't remember the last time I had fish & chips this bad. Quite surprising given how swish the place looks. Wish I'd read some of the terrible reviews here before spending my money. They are accurate.

The batter was too thick & greasy. The fish was too thin & pasty Didn’t taste very fresh The price was average. Wouldn’t go there again.

Chips were barely cooked, curry sauce tasted like a masala out of a jar, abit confused as I thought I was at a chip shop? For £9.95 for a large (this is questionable) chips and a confused curry sauce we were very disappointed. Focus less on different salt flavours, and more on what you're there for, good chips.

Have never h ad a complaint in the past, as fish and chips we have ordered has been quite good. Their website say open Sundays until 7.00pm with last orders at 6.45pm Arrived at 6.35pm last Sunday to be told by a rather rude girl that you closed at 6.30pm! No apology or explanation. I responded on their website form, but never heard back.

Absolutely awful experience. 45 mins queue to order, followed by a 79 minute wait for just 4 bags of chip!! And they were cold! Abysmal service, subpar food. Avoid like the plague

The food wasn’t too bad, however we did wait 30 mins for our food to come and it was a small order. Paid £16.60 for a chip butty, portion of chips and 2 battered sausage with some sauces. I wasn’t too pleased when I opened my butty for £3.70 to see about 15 chips inside. Again with the portion of chips, very minimal for the money we paid and time we waited! If we were to visit again we would definitely make a point of asking for a full portion for the money spent.

Awful!! Waited 40 mins for 2 meals when we got them home we found they were stone cold, the batter was soggy and the chips were chewy like rubber and the portion sizes were terrible for what we paid, my advice stay well away very disappointing do not recommend

Ordered 4 meals. Were given a buzzer and told that’s how we’d know when it was ready. After an hour my husband went to find out what was going on, only to find it had been cooked a while ago and was sitting, drying out, waiting for us. When we finally got it back to our table, the food was in random boxes and not boxed as the meals I had requested. I paid just under £50 for this service, or lack of service. This was a ‘quiet week’ so goodness knows what it will be like in the summer holidays. It’s a shame as we visited two years ago and it was much, much better.

Had to laugh when charged £4.40 for two 500ml bottles of water! Although in their defence, they were cold and refrigeration isn't free🤣

Situated outside the pub, it was handy for fish and chips and a pint. We had to wait for basic chips, battered sausage and fish cakes. The chips were dry, didn't taste like fish and chip shop chips. We had to wait for them to arrive, about 10 - 15 mins. We were disappointed about the quality. The battered sausage was dripping of oil! The meal was served up in 3 cardboard boxes.

We went in for a take out and it has to be the worst fish and chips we have ever had. The batter on the fish was horrible, it tasted like the oil had not been changed for a while. The chips came out anaemic and many were not even cooked, I also asked for a jumbo sausage which resembled a chipolata! If we had been served this in the restaurant it would have been sent back but we had driven back to our holiday accommodation to eat, it all went in the bin sadly. Very disappointed.

This Fish and chips shop is ideally situated very close to the beach and next door to The Ship Inn pub and gets extremely busy and we did experience quite a wait. When the food arrived it was very hot but a little on the average side for me, the cod was very nice but all other stuff was not worth the wait unfortunately. The Catch is open on a Sunday lunchtime which was a surprise. We will probably visit again later in the week and hopefully enjoy the food considerably more than we did earlier. Not bad.

The best fish and chips for years. Had regular cod which was more than enough with chips. Chips were done perfectly, crispy and soft in the middle. Good friendly service can't recommend enough....perfectly cooked.

My mother is local and I've been a customer every few months since opening. It's always been very good. I cannot understand some of the comments here as the fish and chips have been enjoyed by everyone in our family from our first visit.

Great fish and chips, including excellent gluten free batter. Lovely location overlooking the sea. Staff very hardworking and helpful. May have to wait a bit for food but it’s worth it!

How poor can u produce a simple meal. Well this place managed it. Could barely find a decent chip and the fish if you could find it was drenched in oil which I can only imagine was changed somewhere in the past. Don’t waste your money

Look, much is down to personal taste isn't it. But... if like our family you like fish n chips that has - been cooked fresh to order, with dark golden light crispy batter and medium chunky chips which are light golden, crispy outside but soft & fluffy inside, then based on tonight's batch, this is absolutely the place to go. With around 8 people waiting ahead, it took 15 minutes for my order for a family of 3 to be ready. Time well spent in my book - delicious!

A long weekend in Mundesley arriving on Friday afternoon. A pint sat outside with sea view and then. Fish and chips from The Catch at the Ship Inn ….. now I have read the reviews and I say take as you find. We had haddock cod large chips and peas. All really good. A 15 k in minute wait at the most sat drinking a good beer in the late evening sun. No complaints. Good food, good price and good service. Well done

This was disappointing as we have three fish and chip shops within 4 miles. The one in our village Bacton is terrible. The one in the next village Walcott is hit and miss and this one is a miss. The chips were from the bottom of the pan and it was almost like bits of chips and the fish was okay. I won’t be rushing back. The wait was about 15 minutes but it is cooked fresh and they have a system where you get a blooper to tell you when it’s done so you can sit in the pub garden and have a drink.
