We stayed for one night in our tent. The facilities were great - clean and tidy washing facilities and roomy pitches. The pub staff are very friendly. We had an evening meal which was superb. The tapas portions were large and delicious and quite refined. We also had fish and chips super fresh and light crispy batter.

Nice pub and staff good Sunday lunch but paid for overnight stopover in my Camper and they decided to shut the pub very early so stuck in Ramsey with nowhere to go and nothing else there. Actually turned customers away. People are complaining that the pubs are closing but in my experience if you shut a pub early then people do not go back again.

Good food and friendly staff - when you can find them. Lunch was slow to be served and when I wanted to pay ((as I had to return to work) the bar was deserted! I'm waiting and waiting, wanting to pay. Another customer is waiting at the bar to be served. The phone is ringing. No staff member anywhere to be seen. I waited so long I had to leave meaning I had to give my money to another member of my party who was remaining a little longer and ask them to pay my bill for me! This really is very poor and would prevent me going again for lunch.

This is a handy stop before getting to the ferry at Harwich. We thought we would pop in and check out the facilities for overnighting in their carpark in our campervan on a future visit. We both enjoyed a lovely dinner in the pub with a drink. Good choices on the menu and I had a very tasty. well cooked and flavoursome fish pie with veg and my husband had the burger. We also both had a slice of the most amazing salted caramel cheesecake and it set us up nicely for the evening ahead. The facilities looked good for the overnight camping and we will definitely use this place if we ever use the ferry again.

The Castle inn at the end of Ramsey Village, Harwich is a lovely dog friendly pub. The pub has it's own dog, Peaches, but she stays behind the bar. The staff were very attentive to Rafs, in that when I said he was very nervous of other dogs, they warned customers respectfully when they came in. We opted for 3 from their Tapas menu, a very reasonable 3 for £13. We had the halloumi, which was a very generous portion size for the money and well cooked. We also had a generous portion of whitebait and the pork belly bites. They have a great selection of flavoured Gins and Rums if that floats your boat. We enjoyed a beer, and my husband sampled the Dark Cherry Kraken, which he enjoyed. They have outdoor space, in fact they have a reasonably priced campsite at the rear. They have plenty of space in the bar and restaurant, with a fire (although it was good weather so it wasn't lit). They have a TV and they do show football (sky sports). They also have a big projector, which I assume they use for big events. The toilets are very clean, and a nice touch is that they have body spray and hand cream for customers to utilize. I will definitely visit The Castle Inn again as my experience was very good.

I came here to camp and stayed 4 nights I am pleased with the campsite but the service in the bar is not so good. The young lady behind the bar frequently served others before me even though I was first and had waited 10 minutes she's not very observant as she's too busy flirting with the young men instead of seeing who's waiting for service then serves people who just walk in while ignoring those who have been waiting minutes to order a drink.I have spent £70.00 here so believe I deserve better it's a shame because otherwise the place is excellent!

We went there for my mums birthday lunch. We have never been before, but it was recommended to us. The food was fantastic. Tapas starters went down well with everyone. I had the homemade chicken Kieve, a very large breast of chicken filled with plenty of lovely garlic. World away from any shop bought, even the most expensive. It was huge and very well presented on the plate, with a basket of lovely thick homemade chips and a sauce smeared over the plate, which I couldn't identify (possibly a balsamic vinegar base), but it was lovely whatever it was. Just a shame there wasn't more of it. My father had the ribs, again everything homemade, also very large and judging by the way he polished them off, also very tasty. Mum said next time she would try the ribs. Everything was home made and freshly cooked, can't ask for more, especially for the price. I never normally do this, but I sent my compliments to the chef. Yes it really was that good. If, I have one negative comment, it would be it's a shame they haven't divide off the dinning area, from the bar. Double doors between the end of the bar and the outside wall, would do the trick. A large group of older men, were sat in the bar and they were very loud. It did spoilt it a little bit, as we had to speak up, to drown them out. Luck of the draw if they are there next time and yes, there will be a next time. Oh and my mother said, no steak shame. Although, she really enjoyed her meal, steak or not. I highly recommend this pub restaurant.

I spent one night cycle camping here a few weeks ago. I found out about the campsite from the book Tiny Campsites. The book makes it sound more idyllic than it actually is. To start with, it’s very difficult to find a completely level pitch. Luckily I was the first person to arrive so probably got the best patch. Another camper arrived later and, despite there being plenty of space, pitched his tent right close up next to mine. But I don’t blame him as he was obviously also looking for a flat space. Besides, he was charming, so I was quite happy to have him as a neighbour. It may have been a one-off, but I was not impressed by the fact that the camping area at the top of the garden was very unkempt. I had to remove a whole lot of branches and twigs from the ground before I could pitch my tent. Moreover, there were bits of litter strewn around. The toilet and shower facilities are unisex. There was no lighting to reach them, so you need a torch at night. On the plus side, for when it rains, there is a covered area with picnic benches. And to finish on a positive note, the staff were polite and helpful and my evening meal in the pub was good.

We ate here for my mother in law's birthday. We were a group of 9 and I am assuming that's why we had to decide on our main meal/starter and order them in advance of the lunch. This is always a bit tricky for me and my son as we have limiting dietary requirements and the website, as far as I could see, didn't have details about ingredients. We both ended up just eating chips with cod/scampi because they are fairly safe bets and for me were the only items with limited (but unfortunately probably not no-) dairy. There are pretty much never any dairy free puddings so I wasn't too surprised that I again would have no dessert but I was particularly disappointed that they didn't have a selection of teas, particularly green tea, so I had to twiddle my thumbs whilst everyone else gorged on very nice looking puds/cakes/brownies. It was thus a very standard meal, but nicely presented and tasty and the portions were very good. The staff are very nice.

The quality of dining at The Castle has fluctuated over the years, but now is better than it has ever been, in my experience. Our latest visit was for a Sunday lunch, not just any Sunday but Mothers' Day, so, predictably the restaurant was full, all guests probably having booked head, as my wife and I had.Greeted by a woman behind the bar, we were shown to our reserved table, by the senior waitress. We were quickly approached by a younger waitress taking our order for -pre-drinks,from what I must say is a rather limited wine list, together with the menu and also pointing out the Specials board. Drinks were brought, and time then taken selecting from the generous menu, although my own choice had probably been made before we stopped the wheels rolling on the car park! Sunday? Then it must be a roast meal! I was offered a choice of a three-meats dinner or a single-meat one - I elected for the roast lamb and my wife chose a fish bake.Obviously prepared to order, as it entailed a perfectly acceptable wait as we watched younger families enjoying their time together, all with a senior female present receiving the deserved accolades of being a Queen for the day.My wife reported that her fish bake was excellent, whilst my roast lamb was exquisitely cooked to my taste, with a plentiful side serve of vegetables. My wife declined a sweet, but I went for the French Apple cake and that was an excellent choice too.Service throughout was excellent, with three waitresses constantly busy but so efficient. So no men folk present then? No, not even working behind the adjoining bar area, but on enquiry it would appear that the kitchens would tell a different story, as even the regular chef had been called in for the special occasion. Kitchen staff were out of sight then, but not out of mind, and from previous visits they obviously play an important part in the general smooth running of The Castle.A word to the wise; the car park is small and so by necessity most cars have to park on the surrounding roads. Do consider where you park as the options are limited, and may involve a short walk.

A last minute change of plan led us to lunch at The Castle at two on a Friday. A simple pub menu with standard fare was brightened by the good selection of specials. We chose the beef bourguignon and chicken Kiev. About fifteen minutes later the food arrived, food that would not look out of place at a much more expensive establishment. The beef was tender, flavoursome and beautifully cooked, the vegetables fresh and not overdone. The Kiev was huge, tasty and accompanied by seriously crunchy chips and cauliflower cheese which was superb. A quick pint of Woodforde's Once Bittern and I was very happy!Overall, a cut above your average pub, they've brightened the place up and although it needs finishing off with the odd bit of paint, this was a really good lunch venue offering quality meals across a range of prices.

My wife and I decided to visit The Castle Inn on Wednesday evening and were pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the welcome and quality of food. We can not understand why it is so far down the ratings? The young lady behind the bar was excellent (she was keeping the fire burning, serving drinks, taking orders, serving food) not too quick, but seemed to know when we were ready to order and when we were ready for the next course. There are specials on the board, as well as the main menu, which is not long, but has something for everyone. The dinning area is very nice and comfortable, with plenty of atmosphere. We chose to share a starter of smoked salmon and prawn on a mixed leaf salad, with an orange dressing and small pieces of orange. It was really delightful and full of flavour. For the main course my wife chose scampi and chips, and went for a special, beef madeira with new potatoes and vegetables. There were plenty of scampi and plenty of lovely chunky chips, not greasy, fluffy and crisp, with peas and tartare sauce. So much that my wife could not eat it all.The beef was cooked to perfection and the sauce, subtle for very good. the new potatoes and vegetables were on the side, which I like, so I could choose what I wanted and when. We washed this down with a nice Rioja, again, the price of wine is very reasonable.Overall a lovely evening with good, flavoursome food, attentive and pleasant staff, plus I feel very good value for money.

Two of us went there on a Friday lunchtime. Very nicely done up inside, log fire burning and good atmosphere. A large family group were having a really nice time and I could hear them saying how brilliant the food was.We chose from the specials board and both had Beef Bourguignon which was absolutely delicious. I'd definitely recommend eating there, we'll be going again soon!

Revisited the Castle to find that it had been taken over by new owners and a brand new chef in place. Great choice of different food which was cooked, presented and served well. The restaurant part of the pub is very clean and modern. Definitely worth a revisit.

Great place for a light lunch or evening dinner. We visited during our trip to the castle and stopped for a light lunch (well I did anyway, he was distracted by the scampi). Great service and friendly staff. Food was delicious and there was a great choice of beers, including some for their beer festival and Halloween specials.

Lovely pub experience at the end of stage 9 of the Essex Way. Food was amazing - we had homemade chicken kiev with chips and cauliflower cheese and a sausage and mash. Both were stunning and served with style. We met the landlady and she made us and our two dogs feel very welcome. Would return in a flash.

Heard some good reviews from friends so thought we'd give it a try.Went on a Saturday night and wasn't overly busy which was good because it's not huge in the restaurant but nice and cosy. Food was really good, I also heard it's only one chef so even better, the food was piping hot all looks and tatstes homemade, the price is great too! There was only 1 waitress serving the tables, she was really friendly and made sure we was looked after as well as the other diners. Will definitely be returning, highly recommended

We wanted a quick getaway camping trip for as we live fairly locally. We understand the Castle is under new management and we had heard good things about it so thought we would give it a try - camping and pub combined, what could be better? We arrived on the Friday and booked in for an evening meal. We had a few drinks in the bar first which has recently been very tastefully refurbished. A particular hit was the Prosecco which was reasonably priced. We were a party of four and we all had a very enjoyable meal, the menu was very reasonably priced and serving very good sized portions. My partner ordered the steak which was particularly good. The staff were very helpful and attentive and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back.

Had a brilliant lunch today, being a very small eater couldn't finish the lunch but was informed I could order a child portion in future. Wonderful home made roasties, Yorkshire and veg. Plenty of meat. We ordered one strawberry Eton mess with two spoons for dessert but as they were out of strawberries we got a HUGE raspberry Eton mess. It would have fed a family. Brilliant value. Will certainly be visiting again. Our fav. Now!

We had a largish group to feed, one of us with a serious (and unusual) allergy. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, without being intrusive. The food is very good value for the quality, and the menu is varied, especially considering the food appears to be almost all made from scratch. We stayed in a camper van on the premises and enjoyed the real ales and traditional atmosphere at the pub too. Definitely a success for the owners, who took the place over only recently. Will visit again!

Previously regular visitors to the Castle for lunch when owned by friends, five of us today new staff very attentive and willing to please. Five roasts ordered happy for mother in law to have a kids roast she has been unwell and has a small appetite, Appropiate condiments to orders arrived ahead of meals my lamb three roast potatoes 1 large Yorkshire rather overdone, veg to share for the table was somewhat undercooked. Overall tasty although my husband said his beef was tough and not up to previous Castle standards. Mother in law was happy with her kids roast. Three of us had desserts father in law thought syrup sponge and custard was delicious Eton mess was a tasty mess and one trio of ice cream not advertised but available. Reserve judgement until we go back again.

I visited this gem of a cafe on the quiet end of Clacton seafront for breakfast this morning and I will definitely be back. Located right overlooking a beautiful beach this family run cafe deserves every one of the five stars I have given it. Spotlessly clean, with welcoming courteous staff and great all day menu of breakfasts and traditional family cafe meals. What more can you ask for? Good value and quality products and yes you’ll get them too! Popular with locals and visitors to the area alike a lot to enjoy about the Greensward Cafe!! Oh and it has a great crazy golf to enjoy as well, perhaps when the weather is a bit better! An absolute credit to the proprietor and team - visit and enjoy a real seaside treat !!!
