Lovely staff. Excellent service and great pub lunch. Would highly recommend even for a quick pit stop. We had a cheese and tomato sandwich and a scotch egg. Both were fabulous

What a gorgeous pub! Stayed nearby for our anniversary so came here for dinner and I'm so pleased we did. A friendly and warm welcome, prompt service, fantastic food and very reasonable prices too. Lovely bottle of red wine with great glasses (makes a difference!) the scotch egg starter was delicious and my partners steak main was very flavoursome and cooked perfectly. I had seen the halloumi burger online but it wasn't listed on the menu so I enquired and they said they had some and would be happy to make it for me. The chips were tasty, everything down to the mayonnaise I can't fault. What really made the evening was the staff. So incredibly friendly and approachable but not overbearing. We visited again the following day for some drinks and the atmosphere was the same. Highly recommend and will definitely be back - thanks so much for a wonderful evening.

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch here today with our family. Our roasts were beautifully cooked and really tast - just like the best home-cooked Sunday lunch with none of the work for us! The vegetables were perfectly cooked and the proper homemade Yorkshires were great. Although we thought we couldn't fit in any pudding we managed two puddings to share between 4 of us. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was the best I've ever had (and I've eaten a good many) and the home-made crumble and custard delicious too. The staff gave us a warm and friendly welcome and looked after us really well. We'll definitely be going back.

This is the first time my family tried this pub, and after our wonderful lunch we'll be sure to come back regularly. The pub was warm and inviting, and the staff were exceptionally welcoming. I came with three children and was made to feel very welcome. They thoughtfully sat us in the snug room, which was perfect for us and very comfortable. We had Sunday lunch with all the trimmings and tried some other dishes as well. All very delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. Loved it!

We visited The Castle Inn for Sunday lunch and what an amazing lunch it was. Beef was cooked to perfection, plenty of vegetables and the Yorkshire pudding was home made, not the fluffy, empty shop bought ones here. The owner said they wanted to offer a Sunday lunch like you have at home and this they did. Highly recommend a visit.

We revisited this historic and characterful pub after a break of many years to find its character unspoiled and in new hands (since 2022 we understand). Exceptionally friendly and hospitable staff served us the best roast beef we’ve had for some time - moist and succulent together with well cooked potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy - with a pint of Larkins from just down the road. A favourite pub I have known for 50 years back on top form!

We sat inside and the pub is a genuine rarity - it's a traditional country pub that hasn't had its interior ruined through crass decoration and renovation. There was also no music playing inside which was amazing - you could actually relax and hear your conversations without rubbish blaring out!! The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. I'd recommend the fish and chips. It was fresh and full of flavour - the mushy peas portion was on the small side though. My only other feedback is that the premium eating experience would be improved by getting rid of the cheap condiment sachets. Ideally give ketchup and mayo bottles so people can help themselves. I look forward to returning!

We found this pub by accident but it was a very fortunate discovery. It retains many of the original features of the old pub and its 14th century beginnings. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and happy to spend time telling us about the history of the pub and local traditions. Its been under new management for 8 months and now seeing a real revival as a faithful village pub for the locals as well as a foodie destination for those from further afield. We can really recommend this pub and it will now feature as one of our weekend lunch destinations.

I've always liked this pub, but had mostly stopped going as, under the previous management, the hours and food had become increasingly unpredictable. We decided to stop by one afternoon just to see and discovered it is under new management. They've done great things with the place and are committed to running a first class establishment. We went back a couple of nights later for supper and the food was fantastic. The local cider is highly recommended. This is now our go-to country pub.

Moderate Preise.

Many years ago especially in the late spring to early autumn months we used to love visiting Chiddingstone Castle Inn just for their baked potato, beans and salad which was second to none. Yesterday 28 th August 2020 we were so disappointed to find this delightful treat missing from the menu. Unfortunately, we were not offered the full vegan menu and we waited whilst the chef prepared one! Our options were not very good so my husband and I chose a vegetarian option but my daughter who is completely vegan had to have the stir fry which would not of been her first choice. My husband and I had mushrooms on toasted foccacia for starters but the oil smelt and tasted burnt, likewise his Hallumi and mushroom burger had the same slight taste - which probably means the oil needs changing ? Have stopped here a couple of times recently and over all impressions - not good & expensive beer! £4.50 a pint of Larkins (brewed in the village is a bit steep) so £9.00 in for two pints and no place to sit in the public bar as looked like a office meeting on one table and no stools at the bar while we waited for our friends to join us! Went into the saloon bar and no tables have reserved signs so we sit down. A woman came over after about 5 minutes and told us we had to move to another table (she seemed very irritated) so fair enough we moved to another table and told that this also was reserved (no sign indicating this) she informed us we could sit here for two hours. Atmosphere felt cold and like we are not welcome and shouldn’t of been there. The rest of our party felt the same, not as homely as it used to be. As we are getting ready to leave and put our coats on another woman is pushing past us and knocking us trying to relay the table even though we had only stayed for one round. Would of stayed longer and perhaps looked to eat but wouldn’t bother. Another table next to us had been there for just under an hour and had been complaining to themselves on how long it had taken to be served and still didn’t have any food when we left. Try the next pub along the road, very welcoming and the Larkins is cheaper! Really liked this pub been going for years, Shame they seem to have changed all the friendly staff, probably won’t go back.

This pub seems to have changed ownership or at least many of its staff in December 2019. Fawlty Towers is a slick operation compared to this place. They took Christmas Day lunch booking payments of £95 per person in advance. Come the big day, and little or no food was provided for hours on end to customers including small children and a 93 year old guest. After 3 hours they admitted the children wouldn't get any food and offered them some chicken nuggets. Having around 20 people sit in a restaurant for several hours and manage to deliver virtually no food at all is quite an achievement. Do NOT give these people your custom or money. They are being reported to the Retail Ombudsman.

If you are visiting the village, make sure you stop by the Castle Inn. We had a delicious lunch. The burgers were very tasteful and the onions rings to die for, and the desert options were very good and delicious! The staff was very professional and friendly. We had a great afternoon, it was lovely. I highly recommend it.

Dropped in for a light snack with grandchildren after Halloween trail. Superb sandwiches and light snacks. Also good Larkins beer, ideal for lunchtime drink. Very satisfied

Being relatively local we were informed that The Castle was under new management and this pub was "back in business" good food etc. so we thought we would try it. Well as the previous review said, it was a bit of a disaster. We waited for almost an hour for our order to be taken ( this should have told us where this was going). It was not overly busy, early in the lunch session and "sorry thats off the menu" ....... then selecting another dish we waited at least another 30 mins for starters. Then informed that the deep fryers was not working, could we chose another mains dish ...mmmmm. Staff were not in a good mood or are possibly lacking in management and PR skills. Food was edible but lacklustre - no depth. Shame as I will not be back or recommending it.

The pub is right by the castle grounds entrance at one end of the village street. Friendly staff who were attentive. Nice setting, but beware of steps inside. . Typical pub food but well cooked and presented.

We had lunch here whilst visiting Chiddingstone village (National Trust) with friends. It gets very busy so would recommend to pre-book a table. Friendly & efficient staff, good menu choice although only one main course vegetarian option and large portion sizes. Service was prompt and the food was delicious. There is also a small dessert menu.

Came back to The Castle on a cool October day - it was 50 years since my last visit; a real trip down memory lane! But though the day was cool the welcome could not have been warmer, and we were soon enjoying drinks while choosing from the lunch menu.

Stopped by for an evening meal. Food was really tasty. Service great and setting of the pub is really beautiful. Strongly recommend and will go the extra mile to visit again. We sat out front on quiet road overlooking beautiful church, also beautiful rooms inside and back garden.

Yes, seriously impressed. The quality of the welcome, the meals and the excellent service, these guys must certainly be on top of their game. Just keep it up and success must surely follow when the word gets around.

It was a lovely day for a trip out to a country pub and our daughter fancied the look of this one. I have to say the place has been renoved beautifully, inside and out. Inside was nearly empty - maybe people had already read the online reviews. We didn't really fancy anything on the menu as we only wanted a light lunch like a sandwich and there weren't any listed. The 3 soups didn't sound like they'd be homemade so we all went for the sausage roll with apple sauce. Despite the lack of people, the food took ages to arrive. When it eventually turned up, 2 of the 3 sausage rolls were burnt black. Mine was OK so I started on it. It was very dry and tasteless so I tried the applw sauce but that was thin, sloppy and tasteless. My husband was furious after the long wait and took the food up to the bar to complain saying it was disgusting. The server offered to refund our 3 meals immediately. Avoid this place if you want to eat good food!

Our first visit after the renovation. Much improved without removing features of the beautiful original building. Very busy (it was a Sunday) we enjoyed a small plate from the menu which was good. Tables are a little cramped and on this occasion most customers were accompanied by a dog/s. We like dogs but are not keen on eating with a dog a few inches from our food! (customers with dogs on laps) Would return but would be careful with seating arrangements.
