The Castle Inn in Harrogate

Lovely stay. Staff attentive & friendly. Great service.

Our experience did not start well. Although there were plenty of staff and the place was quiet, no-one acknowledged us when we arrived, and I was totally ignored at the bar by a young man endlessly fiddling with dressing a drink which he had already poured, and ended up serving unadorned. When he finally returned to the bar, he took my drinks order and gave me some menus which I took to the table that my wife had chosen, only to be told that we couldn't sit there as it was reserved and were pointed in the general direction of the scruffy end of the bar. All that said, the food when it arrived was excellent, the drinks were splendid and the service once we were finally seated was OK. It's just a shame that my memory of today will be of bad initial service rather than good food and drink.

Nice inn, in a great town. Great local bar with a good selection of beers.

I travelled for work and hit the jackpot with this find. From the moment I arrived there was ample parking, when I walked in it was clear to enter your reg for free parking. I was greeted straight away and told someone would be with me, I was checked in and shown to my room. The rooms were lovely and value for money, very comfortable bed and pillows, could not fault the room. Also I had evening meal and breakfast, again first class service and food. Overall a very pleasant place to eat with a welcoming atmosphere even for a sold female traveller.

Four of us came along for a family meal. Noted that we had to register our details as we went in for parking (overkill?). Quite a few of the items on the menu were unavailable. I don't think the burger represented anywhere near good value. Fish and chips looked good. As did the pie. Service was good, although they were understaffed. It's the "discretionary" service charge that grates. (a) If service is good then most people will tip - We would have anyway (b) if this is being used to increase the pay of staff rather than paying them a decent wage then the business is at fault. So.... remove the service charge and improve supply of menu items and we'll be back. Oh, should also say, the building and surroundings are lovely.

The Roast was excellent l would of liked the Tender stems cooked a little more too crunchy for my liking I would have preferred a traditional Crumble with a thicker topping

Excellent! We visited recently with friends and their son and were mightily impressed - all of the food was exceptional, especially the fish and chips! The deserts were great too, even if they muddled up the brownie which they quickly realised and took off the bill. We’ll certainly be back!!

I wanted to feedback on the breakfast we had this morning at the pub. We wanted to come as it was new and we had never tried breakfast before here. We were quite disappointed on the service and even more on the food to be honest. The food we waited over half an hour for and in the meantime had already drank our coffee. The food arrived, we ordered the Full English, and the bacon was very overcooked, we received 1/4 of a mushroom and 1/4 tomato, which wasn’t described on the menu and I got the crusts toasted off a cut white loaf and we didn’t get asked what type of toast we wanted. I also got charged 50p for a small jug of soya milk which wasn’t detailed on the menu. We also had to order another coffee as we had already drunk our one waiting for the food to arrive. All in all with service charge it was £41.25 which isn’t cheap. On a positive note the sausage was great!

Menu uninspiring but food tasty. Portions measly and pricey. Worst aspect was the lack of welcome and impersonable service.

Fabulous stay. A slight mix up on arrival, however this was very quickly resolved, everything was great. We were in the Skipton room which was lovely. We also booked for dinner which was lovely. The staff and management all were friendly and really looked after us. We will be back!

Enjoyable meal with excellent service BUT this was ruined by subsequent receipt of parking fee of £100, generously reduced to £60 for early payment. I certainly did not see the signage, not that I was expecting to have to check in like this in a pub car park. Town centre maybe but a pub car park! Come on… nor did I get any reminders from the staff. Nor did I see the tablets he mentions elsewhere as I was served directly to the table and very well too. Absolutely perfect, the gentleman front of house who greeted us when we arrived so very attentive. Food served promptly and was delicious. The 2 ladies who attended to our table friendly and efficient. Was a pleasure to visit. Thankyou we will certainly recommend and return.

What a great experience, the staff here were exceptional. Rooms are great (if you need a really hot bath, use over bath shower to fill the bath). The roast beef was the best I've ever had. Thanks to the team for a great stay.

We had booked the Barn on for my mother in laws 80th Birthday which just happened to be on NYE. From start to finish Georgia and the team could not do enough to make the evening special. The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent quality and there were many compliments from our party on every course and I felt it was excellent value for money. I would highly recommend the Castle for anyone looking to book a celebration or just a meal/drinks, it was truly a fantastic night..

Excellent Sunday lunch at our lovely Spofforth village pub and hotel The Castle. Food was excellent as was the service and the car parking booking system was a breeze and also ensures the car park isn't used by non patrons. Spofforth villagers are lucky to have this place !

We went for a NYE family meal and were so impressed with the whole experience. We were greeted at reception, had a pre-meal drink in the bar followed by lunch in the dining area. Every staff member without exception was polite, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere in both sides of the pub was relaxed and welcoming and we all really enjoyed our meals. The pace of service was perfect allowing us to enjoy a relaxing family afternoon and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. 2 of our party had a dog and this was a factor for choosing the pub, which was clearly dog friendly. I have read other reviews about the parking and, as a first time visitor, I saw the signs in the car park before entering and found it a very clear process to follow. Overall, we had a great experience at the Castle Inn and will definitely visit again in the future and recommend to friends.

Our Christmas Do was held at lunchtime and was in the barn area - a separate room within The Castle Inn. It was warm, cosy and very well laid out. The service provided by Chloe was exceptional and the food was excellent. The whole day was hard to fault. Will we be back next year? Yes!

We had our wedding day at The Castle Inn back in July and without a doubt it was the most incredible day! Every detail from planning the wedding right through to the final dance was taken into account and thought of by Gee and Tara. We spent lots of time planning with Gee who helped to make our dream day come to life. We felt relaxed and excited whenever we met Gee at the venue to talk through the day as her kind and calm personality shone through as well as her excitement for our wedding day. Tara organised our wedding day down to every last detail. Even to the detail of a specifically timed 'walking down the aisle song' that Tara pulled off with such ease. Tara took time throughout our day to ensure we were happy with everything along with the kindest, most considerate staff supporting us throughout the whole wedding weekend. We would highly recommend having your wedding day at The Castle Inn, whether it be small or big it is the most perfect place to say I Do!!
