Pine Marten in Harrogate

Popped in for some drinks after work with some colleagues and were well looked after by Millie and the manager Rhys, very welcoming and friendly and remembered our drinks order which is nice as you don’t often get that

First visit to the Pine Marten, beautiful building, excellent food and service, and great value for money. We will definitely call again for lunch, looking forward to spring and summer visits.

We received 3 emails and 3 texts ahead of our booking; a confirmation is reassuring but 6 messages can become irritating. Access and parking were fine; perhaps the lighting in the car park could be improved a bit? It wasn't altogether clear where we should go on arrival but we found the bar soon enough. There were no staff present for a few minutes and we were about to ask guests what was happening when someone arrived and showed us to a table. The Pine Marten is in a fine building, perhaps not fully appreciated on a cold, wet winter night; the decor is pleasant although there was a searingly bright light in one corner; the spacing between tables was generous but, maybe combined with it being quiet, left us feeling that the atmosphere was a bit flat. We were given menus and a tablet to find the gluten-free options; perhaps it is understandable, with so many dietary requirements, that you are asked to browse a website to check the menu (and being handed a tablet is perhaps better than beingleft to browse on your own phone) but what about the hygiene element of passing a tablet around and how about the traditional approach of simply asking waiting staff? The All Day Menu starters were narrowed down to one by selecting the gluten-free filter; perhaps there are some dishes that could be varied to omit the gluten-containing ingredient. Service was polite and efficient but not particularly warm. The food was largely good, nothing that we couldn't confidently produce at home and we felt that one dish left a fair bit of room for improvement. Overall, a bit disappointing. There are plenty of local alternatives that we prefer.

Popped in for a Sunday roast as had heard how good they were and I was not disappointed, greeted at the door by Reece who was extremely welcoming from the off set and he sat me in the restaurant who I was then looked after and served by Imogen. Amazing service as always. Will be back very soon😁

Had a lovely dinner for Mother in-laws birthday with hospitality as always unmatched anywhere in and around Harrogate. All courses were stunning especially the king prawns and the rib eye steaks which importantly received 5 stars from the birthday girl. All the management and staff as always attentive, so pleasant and a credit to the business but last night an extra special mention for the extremely courteous and pleasant Maxwell for looking after us above and beyond. Excellent food with a comfortable room.

The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are very accommodation and friendly , however we were very disappointed with the food. For the price, We would have expected the food to be of a higher standard. The meat (said it was pulled pork) in the ‘dirty burger’ was a slab of meat that tasted old and dry, the macaroni cheese we ordered was one of the work Mac and cheeses I have tasted, it looked like it had been slipped out of a tin into a dish and had an awful powdery taste to it. We did communicate this to the waitress, she apologised but no compensation was given. Like I said, lovely pub and we will return for drinks but would not eat here again or recommend the food.

We have been visiting the Pine Marten for well over 16 years as our regular go-to restaurant for a guaranteed high quality meal. This year, for the first time, we booked for Christmas lunch, and it did not disappoint. Having eaten out on Christmas Day before, we were a little dubious, but we were overwhelmed by the genuine welcome on arrival, the high quality dishes and the outstanding hospitality we experienced during our whole visit. We asked for an off the menu change in dessert to accommodate our picky eater which was met with ease and was truly appreciated. Thank you to all the staff who gave up their Christmas Day to host a wonderful service. Of course, we will be back!!

Actual abysmal service. Waited for over an hour to be served after asking twice and being fobbed off by staff members. Burgers were dry and comparable to a rustlers burger. A standard beef burger that cost 16 pounds come with chips but the vegan burger for the same price doesn't? Make it make sense. Overall really let down and I would NOT reccomend.

Really high standard of food in a lovely environment.

What a lovely place! Original leaded windows, indoors the original wood panels gave the place a small stately home feel. The food was well cooked and reasonably priced. We had the Xmas menu, Not 5 star food, but good all the same with a great atmosphere.

Ok so it was busy with a couple of Christmas group parties, BUT…. You make a booking, which is accepted, and you expect the usual excellent service. Sadly we were forgotten about all night. Had to ask for menus, ask to order, ask for our drinks order, ask to order dessert. Then after spending over £200 for 4 of us we were told to pay and leave as the bar had closed. And the food? Well poor tbh. All in all not a great experience. Don’t take bookings if you can’t give everyone the service and quality of food they are paying for.

Had an absolutely delightful lunch on Wednesday, and Monica was the star of the show! From the moment we walked in, her warm welcome set the tone for an amazing experience. Monica's impeccable service and friendly demeanor made us feel right at home. Her recommendations were spot on, especially the sea bass, which was an absolute treat. Monica's attention to detail, ensuring our drinks were always topped up and checking in on us just the right amount, truly elevated our meal. Her genuine smile and cheerful personality made the afternoon even more enjoyable. Kudos to Monica for making our lunch unforgettable!

Do not sit in the bar area & expect to be serviced! Had to leave because nobody was interested in taking our order … couldn’t even get a drink. Ignoring the table… even got up to find a waitress to take our order who didn’t come over after 10 mins.

Another visit - tempted by an offer, but slipped out for a mid week tea. Lovely warm welcome, fires lit - nice ambience. Drinks ordered and nice slow service. We were in early - 6:30. Shared a nibble - the beef croquettes - superb. She had lamb, I went for surf and turf. Oh My was her first reaction. I enjoyed the first prawn and said similar. Both mains were superbly cooked, hot and tasty. As we had just come out for tea, we didn’t have coffee or pudding - full !

We came for a roast dinner and you didn’t disappoint at all. The stuffing wrapped in bacon made our day and we had to order more as we couldn’t get enough of the stuff. The Chef who made these deserved real praise

A very nicely decorated restaurant/pub. I visited for lunch with friends and found it to be a great venue. Nice surroundings, good attentive service and tasty food.

Living in Scotland you hear rumours about Yorkshire's famous roasts. It was mediocre at best. We didn't get our table so got put into the "kids room" lovely for date night. The roast was underwhelming, the meat was good quality but poor seasoned, gravy was very good must admit, roast potatoes felt like they had sat for an hour before being served, nice parsnip, flavourless carrot and quite possibly the worst Yorkshire pudding I've experienced. It tasted like an undercooked American pancake.

The decor was beautiful, the staff were extremely helpful , the food was brilliant and it was really child friendly which we really appreciated. Providing cutlery for children is something we’ve never experienced before, we also really appreciated that the children’s food came at the perfect temperature so we didn’t have to wait around for it to cool. We genuinely will be recommending this place to others and returning ourselves!

An attractive place to visit,excellent food and service

First of all, we arrived and were taken to right hand side dining room which was very cold, a log fire was lit but made no difference Walking through to the toilet the rest of the hotel was warm -these radiators were on in these rooms, it was either a cost cutting exercise or a faulty central heating system On to the food - I chose the roast beef and when it arrived it looked very underwhelming two slices of very pink beef which was not easy to cut and it had quite a bit of fat in it. The Yorkshire pudding was ok, but there was only one carrot, 4 small roast potatoes and one parsnip -it was crying out for some mash to add to what was a poor showing and it was only just warm - the greens didn’t come for a few minutes after and were a bit underdone. I have had worse Sunday Lunches but for £20 it was really poor and if l hadn’t have been with family on a birthday celebration l would have complained personally to the manager

Some menu items were good (freshly cooked steak ). Others. (Burgers. ). Almost cold and the fries too. Average burger. Other pubs in the area have stepped up on the burgers but this tasted like a big standard frozen one that had been warmed up - but then left to get almost cold!! Not really acceptable for £20 - after all it’s not fancy food. The staff were great and responded well to the complaint and the dining areas were very nice and cosy. However it’s not a recipe for a good meal out when half the diners have to send meals back. I hope they can just get the basics right. We don’t expect fancy food for pub dining . Just hot and fresh.

Just had a 2 night stay with breakfast and evening meal. What a fantastic treat! The building is packed with character blending modern and traditional styles. All the choices on the bar you could ask for. The food was great and the staff were fantastic very polite and Freindly. A nice mix of clientele too, or at least when we were there! Will have to come back for a Sunday lunch one day. A big thanks to all the team it's a big thumbs up from us 👍👍

We had a super visit to the Pine Marten - made even better by the warm welcome we got from Hugo the barman. He served us quickly and professionally and encouraged us to try a couple of his excellent cocktails-superb! Well worth visiting for great service and a super atmosphere! Highly recommended.

Hugo was our barman for our stay, polite, curious and with a wealth of knowledge to keep us entertained as we relaxed in the very comfortable surroundings.

It had been a while since I had gone into Pine Marten. So I found myself in the area and decided to pop in for a drink. The staff were very welcoming towards me and acted as if I had never left. Maxwell on the bar was very chatty and pleasant. I will certainly be returning soon ;)

Everytime we visit here, for just a drink or food we have a great time. The staff are fabulous and we love the decor. Shout out to the barman, I think his name is Hugo. Update: barman Hugo is amazing very talented at making all the drinks !

I visited the Pine Marten on Sunday with my partner and we had the loveliest time. The food was great and the service was impeccable - shout out to your team member Dani. We’ll be back when next in Harrogate!

The booking (over the phone) was easy, and staff very accommodating, however I did not get initial confirmation of appointment emailed or text to me as promised and I had to chase up twice. The meals ordered were on the whole ok, but mine (sea bass) was not cooked fully, and cold ( I was not charged for this meal). Another person in the party had rissott. This was tasteless (but was eaten). The 2 course meal took 2.5hrs. Front of house and serving staff were great… very friendly and welcoming.

Popped in after a long day at the office with the gang! Joe served us all evening and made sure we stayed well hydrated throughout the evening! Top bloke- will be making a return for this amazing service.

The Sticky chicken was not sticky no source just a cooked chicken breast with a few cuts on the top to look nice. The service was terrible, everything was late, Even a coffee took forever. No staff about to order another drink. The crumble was good. It was not busy for a lunch time and you don't take the Gourmet Society card in December. So won't be going back. What a rip off for an expensive meal. Should be ashamed to offer such poor fair at such a price. Very embarrassed to have invited friends there. Oh main meal small portions.

Stopped off for lunch with friends. The squid starter I had was probably the best I've ever had and the Cod & Chips were second to none. Very impressed by the staff who looked after our needs. Very friendly and professional. Would happily recommend to all.

We went here for a family celebration. First time visiting. The service was good till it got busier and then became much slower. The food was ok, I wouldn’t say it was worth the price tag. Apart from that what was annoying was we got charged for a desert my husband never had. Fair enough I should have checked the receipt better before I paid , but I didn’t expect to be ripped off ! I contacted them about this and never got a reply ! Nice ! Certainly won’t be rushing back any time soon.

Loved absolutely everything about this place. Our waitress was lovely and did her best. The food was 10/10, the carrot soup has natural sweetness and whole seeds just hit the spot. The rib-eye was perfect, medium rare as ordered, tender and it had a smell of wood. Also, the chips with it were really nice. The decor is so decent and stylish, the fireplaces make it super cosy.

Delicious food and friendly service

Took a friend here for lunch and honestly it was fantastic. Not rammed to the gunnels as other places and the food was just perfect at a reasonable price. Will def be returning!

I really despair with this place .. I’m desperate for it to be good, it’s on my doorstep, a great building, decent decor and some lovely senior staff .. but for every one good meal you get , you get four poor (for the price) ones. A decent chef wouldn’t let some of the meals we’ve been served leave the kitchen .. ! I keep coming back in the hope they’ll sort out their chef and staffing issues. They have some juniors in, seemingly, management roles and they just can’t deliver the quality service/ experience it deserves. A couple of simple changes and they’ll have it nailed !

Reading the reviews and seeing the pictures of the food I do wonder if we went to the same place. Went to the pine marten a few months ago mid week for my wife’s birthday. It looks a lovely place but inside it was pretty grubby with dirty tables and carpets. Our table was sticky and we had to ask for it to be cleaned. The food came out very quickly about 10 mins after ordering and was very sry and the chips looked and tasted like they had been refried. After passing the place so many times, it promised so much but I felt so let down. Sadly we wont be returning

Chilled vibe, lovely staff, incredible food.

Delivery perfect. Breakfast very disappointing. Beans not separate and over everything, so all soggy. Actually asked them to remember butter for the toast.. No butter.

Lovely food ran out of roast dinners for Sunday evening dinning

Two good sized car parks got us off to a good start because I don’t like coming out to a dinted car ! Nice decor inside, modern touch given to an old building. This building was once owned by the Yorkshire Electricity Board & the dining room was the old canteen ! Lovely spaced tables with a long table to seat large parties. We were only eight so sat at a smaller table. Food was very well presented, with a good choice available. Service was good & the non alcoholic soda & lime very refreshing on a hot day. You could dine outside if the weather is suitable, a terrace area with tables by a fish pond looked very nice. All in all an enjoyable experience. Three of us had the Gammon which was cooked perfectly & tasted loverly.

We had a lovely meal here after a rainy day spent at Harlow Carr. We hadn’t booked, however they very amiably found us a table and we ordered from their ‘Dine and Wine’ which was a big treat and still amazing value. A lovely bottle of Penfolds Shiraz, scallops to start, steak for mains and we shared the cheese board (I sneaked in a cocktail option instead of pudding). Li’l one had a very tasty looking pizza (crusts eaten and all!) We worked out that the steak and wine topped the £100 cost and everything else was a bonus. Must say, the service was lovely as well.

Lovely building and fabulous interiors. Beautiful garden. My dad and sister went for lunch. It was a treat, as it's relatively pricey. It wasn't busy at all. Having been seated, our order was taken promptly. However, we waited 45 minutes for the food to arrive. I ordered a cauliflower steak (I'm veggie). What arrived was a steak pie. So, back the food went. It was a full hour from ordering when we finally got to eat. The cauliflower steak was tasty, but small for the price (over £17, from memory). Shame it didn't come with more than some sauces, shallot and green leaves, delicious as they were. Would be good to get some protein in there, somewhere. My dad had a lamb shank, which he enjoyed, but it was £25. My sister had a chicken salad. She said it was "nothing special". I'd have expected a free drink, or a reduction in the bill. Sadly, neither were offered. I'm sure we just had a bad experience, but we wouldn't go again.

Interior is a bit odd and doesn't really go with the style of the building. I think someone let an interior designer run wild. Food is okay but nothing to write home about.

Popped in for coffee this morning for the first time since refit. The service and coffee were excellent but appauled at what has been done to a once comfortable, cosy place. The decor is loud, brash and not at all conducive to relaxation. So very sad.

We have visited The Pine Marten many times as we are local and have always been very happy with the friendly service and quality of the food. Visited last night for a bite to eat for our anniversary and was very well looked after by Brigita who was very friendly, attentive and professional. Thank you Brigita for the lovely chat and service, I’m sure we will be returning very soon.

After a Long day out in York, my family and I were shattered! We wanted a warm, Cozy place for our Dinner. We looked no further than the Pine Marten. Excellent and Efficient service from Edie and - Recently Promoted I Believe - Joseph Stanley. For starters I ordered the Camembert, it is meant to be shared but I was famished so I tucked in relentlessly. For Mains I ordered off the specials; I went for the Lamb Shank Cooked by Chef Anton. It was fabulous, full of flavour and filled me right up! There was still room for Pudding however and I ordered the Apple Tart which had a sweetness that complimented my Pint of Leeds Pale Nicely! Would 100% recommend coming here for dinner.

Nice place, good atmosphere the food is ok. The fillet steak wasn't the best for value. It's not a thick cut and not as tender as what I have had at other restraunts. My partner said the burger was very good, but slightly overpriced for what you get.

A berthdi lunch in the garden in warm summer sun !!! We had stopped for a drink a couple of weeks before and liked the look, so booked for lunch. The service was unstressed and perfectly timed. I had signed up for newsletters so had a free starter and main menu, our Doris had the lunch menu. Margarita as a cocktail - lovely. Lovely crab starter, toast was spot on as was the parmesan crisp. Mains - I chose cod with gnocchi - superb, she had the fishcakes which brought lots of Mmmmmmmm’s. Shared a small lemon tart and coffee to finish. A very pleasant and relaxed way to enjoy the day.

We were celebrating a recent wedding and the staff were so accommodating!! They were very attentive and helpful and the food was delicious. We were allowed to decorate the area which was very private.

Food, service, and atmosphere in the public areas were excellent. Our bedroom was a little disappointing. We were on the top floor, and the roof over the sofa bed had paper/plaster coming loose and signs of water penetration. My daughter was so concerned that plaster was going to fall on her head that my husband had to swap and sleep on the sofa bed. A shame as everything else was good

We stayed at the Pine Martin recently and it was lovely. Our room was a good size with an en suite which was also a nice size and clean. Food was lovely, we had breakfast both mornings with a good choice. It was freshly made to order with help yourself to tea, coffee etc. We also had dinner in the restaurant, again freshly cooked to order and good quality. The staff were friendly and very helpful. With their own pub on the premises it had the whole package. If I ever visit that part of Yorkshire again I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. Thanks Pine Martin for a lovely visit x
