Fantastic experience from start to finish, I think this is where the locals go to experience Bettys. It’s great to see a young team be so professional and take pride in their work, attention to detail was amazing. Shows the training and management that is instilled in this coming, great job! Also the food was delicious, as you’d expect!

We booked into the Imperial Room in advance and were looking forward to our visit. We were sat next to the servers’ station, which proved to be loud and distracting. We couldn’t even hear the pianist over the clatter. After being sat at our table, it took over 10 minutes for the waitstaff to greet our table and take our tea order. We were never offered fresh tea or plates. The scones were small, the festive chicken looked like grey cat food, and the desserts were bland. It was a subpar and disappointing experience for the cost.

Have eaten here many times over the years, but have noticed that recently the service has been slow and not always efficient, it's amazing how many times staff come to the table yet they never seem to remove items you have finished with such as glasses and bottles unless you prompt them? My food was not that warm and on top of that, just short of £20 for a croque monsieur is expensive, I honestly expected it would have been larger than what was served. Betty's has always been a treat but I do feel it's losing something and some work needs to be done to bring the service back up to what it usef be.

My toasted muffin, soggy and barely seen any toasting. It Couldn’t handle the scrambled egg and was all soggy. Tuff inedible woody spinach with a slight crust?!?! Both in the vegan brekkie and the extra portion I ordered. Vegan brekkie felt dumped and piled on plate. Far too much spice, overwhelming. Beans claggy and swamped on plate, no ramakin or serving finesse. Smoked salmon I expected in my scrambled egg was thin ribbons, similar to Gravalax. It was in fact very salty overpowering chunks and flakes of smoked pocked salmon and incredibly salty. Aubergine looked like crispy bacon, vinegary and tuff. Overall I feel their menu needs to be more descriptive. We never ever send food back to the kitchen. And in a packed room with people in close proximity, trying to enjoy their Xmas eve. I wasn’t about to start a negative conversation with the staff. Our view is. For the prices you pay here, someone in the kitchen or in the serving team should be more than capable of spotting a raw muffin. Woody dry spinach. Or a piled plate of vegan slop. Been to many bettys since 1970’s, this was awful. Christmas Eve, not any decoration or sense of occasion at our end of the restaurant. Literally not one clue it was Xmas. One Large Xmas tree with no lights on it. And a large double pram buggy parked in front of it. Xmas eve treat, set off 6.45am to be first on the queue. Never ever again.

We have always enjoyed stopping at Betty's after visiting the gardens. We visited for my birthday, we received a warm, friendly welcome and our waitress was wonderful. Café was cold, not great when you feel the cold! As for the food it was very disappointing, I usually have a Fat Rascal or one of the sandwiches but on this occasion decided to have something different. I decided on the Yorkshire Rarebit so wish I hadn't it was like eating cheese fondue, when I eventually got through all the cheese there was a very thin slice of bread, it was way too much cheese, very strong & rich. Now I've had plenty of Yorkshire & Welsh Rarebits (nice thick slice of bloomer bread, with flavoursome melted cheese) they never come like this one, never again, especially at nearly £16 so overpriced, such a disappointment. Latte was lovely but prices have risen yet again and now is over £5, I doubt we will be back.

Haven’t been to Betty’s since pre COVID. It was a nice day so we decided to have a ride and finish off with a cuppa and cake at Betty’s Harlow Carr. Initially we were seated in front of one of the large windows but asked to move as it was cold. We moved further in but it was no warmer! Obviously not putting the heat on and relying on body warmth! I am gluten free and asked the waitress what cakes were gf - there was a choice of 2! Remembering this is the 21st century and Betty’s as well as being a cafe is a bread and cake shop - this is very poor! The choice was the ever faithful macaron or a carrot cake kugelhof! I asked for the carrot cake and a black Americano and my husband had tea and fruitcake with cheese. My coffee arrived - three quarters full and I manfully managed to get three bites out of the cake! The fruitcake although packed with fruit was only half a piece in size and the cheese was see through! That was £24.15! The table next to us ordered afternoon tea at £29.95 pp and it came with 4 tiny sandwiches a scone and 4 ‘cakes’ an inch square! Emperor’s new clothes comes to mind!

The Harlow Carr Betty's is a fairly small space, despite which there was a fairly substantial queue which meant that we chose a takeaway coffee and snack from their neighbouring shop - from there you could see that a number of tables had not long started a lunch so the wait must have been long! Some of the items are maybe more difficult to eat as takeaway but were nonetheless very tasty. Good quality but not the cheapest produce

We had full english breakfast with tea.. Somewhat disappointing as it was a bit mean on quantity and too salty.. Service was pretty good ( not excellent ) but the food, although generally well cooked was short on quantity and over salted. Two bacon rashers, one sausage, scrambled egg (overcooked) , one mushroom and half a tomato. Toast was sliced on a 3 tier 'cake' rack so it was not as hot and fresh as it should have been. No hash browns, no black pudding, no beans. No frills. I won't be back at that price. We then walked the gardens but realised it was the food was probably saltier than we thought because all we could think about was drinking water as we walked!

I am so disappointed with my experience with 'Betty's ' . I spent a lot of money to surprise my father with one of Betty's birthday cakes, and when it arrived, it looked cheap and unappealing. It was also no bigger than the palm of my hand. When I complained about the poor quality, I was told I was wrong. No thought to how much of my hard earned money I'd spent or the embarrassment caused by this tiny cake for my father's 70th. Some companies really don't care and are clearly happy to rip people off, living off an outdated reputation. Very upsetting experience. Never again. I'd recommend going elsewhere. Photos of what was expected v what arrived. When the cellophane came off, the whole cake fell apart, too. So disappointed.

This review is of the outside cafe within the gardens on 4/10/23. The food and drink is served in paper cups and plates which blow away off the table in the wind. I felt that I had to beg for enough butter for my fat rascal. The price is way too high for a paper cup of tea. The children's hot chocolates were 50% froth. There were rats running around the tables looking for food and when we lifted the lid of the recycling bin, there was a rat in there too. We ordered afternoon tea, coffee, hot chocolate, kedgeree and a rosti between 3. Portion sizes were good and the flavours were incredible. Genuinely incredible, full of flavour. When the afternoon tea arrived, I was disappointed by the small portion size (for £30 I expected more). But the flavours were incredible: the nicest afternoon tea I’ve had to date. The service was first class. The friendliness, helpfulness and decency of the staff was a joy to experience (they made a call to their York branch on our behalf and took time to answer my questions about the elusive Betty). First, the positives. The food is always good - good quality, tasty and well presented. The selection of teas and coffee are good. Service is usually good. I say usually because most waiters and waitresses are polite, patient and prompt. However, there have been a couple of instances where service was poor - we were treated gruffly and the vibe given is that you are nuisance. I’ve knocked off two stars because of management. Over the last 3-5 years changes have been made that have made our customer experience worse. Moreover, these changes feel like management does not view us (I am including you, the reader) as not valued and appreciated customers paying for a quality experience, but mere lowly ‘cash cows’ to line the pockets of management. The previous entrance, which was where the shop is and is now the exit, was better. There was more space, more seats (important for those who struggle standing for long periods of time) and you were indoors for part of the wait. Now, you must queue outside the entire time, exposed to the elements, with a narrow corridor and currently there are only two benches outside. Extremely inconsistent to the elderly, those with children and those with mobility issues. We actually witnessed one elderly gentleman faint and knock his head against the stone wall.

Excellent customer service and very polite staff. I ordered the pea soup and salmon sandwiches. I asked them to swap out the lemon mayonnaise with plain and they were happy to oblige. The meal was delicious. Please read my other reviews to see how other Betty's tea rooms compare.

Betty's at Harlow Carr need to make access to the cafe more welcoming. A locked door with a notice saying 'wait outside to be called' is not a pleasant welcome. Unfortunately the two coffees we had were too strong, Americano and cappuccino. Betty's Northallerton and Harrogate are our preference.

Visited today with my wife and 83 year old Mother. As expected the food was pricey but the service from Lucy made the visit worth every penny so thank you!

Always a treat at Bettys The only reason this isn't 5 star is that, despite being the only people in the queue, we were left outside in the rain, with a baby, while the table was prepared.

Revisiting from a few years ago but sadly gone downhill. Preordered for a large group with seating plan, sadly some steaks were incorrectly cooked, staff were just calling out orders with no clue who or which table each meal was intended for. My chips came after I’d finished my main, I couldn’t have waited as it would have been cold. No salad of any description with the kids burger. A steak is served with a token strand of water cress, no veg, onion rings, mushrooms. All probably available as extras but considering the cost of a poor cut to begin with…….very costly for the quality of food and service. For private dining you’d expect an elevated level of service and certainly, as a service charge is automatically added. This can and was deducted upon request. One last note to point out, the pub is dog friendly as there were dogs happily sitting on the furniture, however if you do book the private dining area dogs are not allowed in case they damage the carpet. Judging by the state of the chairs the carpet is the least of the concerns. When you start to look there is a lot that is tired and grubby throughout. Finally some but not all of the staff were very polite and helpful, it’s just a shame the overall management of the facility has slipped.

This is a truly magnificent pub. Sam’s beers kept to perfection, no phones and just good happy convivial chat with anyone and everyone who passes through. Landlady and landlord keep three fires going, and make the pub even more spectacular at Christmas time. Utterly magical pub in every way!
