The Castle in Kensington and Chelsea

Place on Portobello Road, nice people, excellent beers and impeccable service. We found ourselves in this place by chance, we initially liked the internal environment seen when passing through from the outside. Upon entering, we found warmth and professionalism, thanks also to Mara who explained everything the menu included. The selected dishes arrived hot and fast. Compliments! If we are in these parts again we will know where to stop even for a simple beer.

Killer Fish and Chips here. Great gaff to go to for a quick bite to eat and pint.

We were walking through Notting Hill and decided to eat there and it was a great discovery... the atmosphere and the food 10/10 I recommend it if you visit London 🇬🇧

We were there around 11 o'clock and they no longer had coffee service. The waitress rudely told us that they only had black coffee. Of the options that were on the hot drink menu they only had one available and it wasn't the best either. The atmosphere of the room is nice, but we left in a bad mood due to the attention we received.

Very rude staff, so that you didn't feel comfortable despite the nice atmosphere. The food wasn't really tasty. The burger was one of the worst burgers in that price range that I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot of burgers.

Best Sunday roasts ever! Food was great - hot, plentiful and really tasty. Constantin was excellent - friendly and polite. Lovely little pub with excellent food. This is by far the best Sunday roast we have had - we have travelled to several highly rated pubs (Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Highgate, Muswell Hill and Islington) for a roast and this was easily the best we have had.

The place offers a charming and cozy atmosphere to enjoy a special evening. The decoration is elegant and creates a relaxing atmosphere. The service is impeccable, always attentive to the clients' needs, and Valentina took excellent care of us. The food is delicious, with fresh, high-quality ingredients. I definitely recommend this place for a memorable experience.

Delicious and tasty food with an Italian touch. A clean and comfortable place. I want to highlight Valentina's attention, very polite and friendly. Speak different languages! We come from Spain and he has attended us speaking in Spanish! Everything perfect, I love it!

We went in to have a coffee because we needed to use the bathroom, and not only did they laugh at us but they asked us for 25 pounds to use the bathroom... The waiters are rude, there are times when exceptions can be made, especially when they tell you that they want to use the bathroom and in exchange they are going to consume for it... anyway

A great place to get traditional dishes and a good pint of beer

Courteous staff. You will be specifically asked whether there are any intolerances or allergies. We chose a salad and two starters and were very happy with our choice.

While the plate of fish and chips that was put down in front of me looked great, for the money they were asking and because there were signs up claiming to make the best fish and chips in Portobello, I have some complaints. The fish itself was well cooked but everything else was a bit cold. The plate came with a ramekin of tartar sauce (only just enough for the fish) and when I asked for mayo they only had the light version. If I was worried about my health I’d hardly be eating fish and chips!!! In summary: nice atmosphere, friendly service, food good but pricey.

While searching for the blue door of the house from the movie Nothing Hill, we came across this cozy pub. We had a few beers, the service is pleasant, the environment is nice, but we can't rate the food, because we weren't hungry and we only stayed for the beer. Dogs can come here too.

I was in the area so I thought I'd pop in for some snacks and a glass of wine. As I walked in, I was greeted with smiles and charisma. Mara, the General Manager, really knows how to run her pub. 5 out of 5.

I was spending my holidays in the UK and coming to The Castle was an amazing experience. They have great starters options and a whole nice menu, and the place is very pretty and cozy!! Josh was specially kind with me and my friend. He was very friendly and helped us with choose our beers and also gave us other drink options. If you are passing by the portobello road The Castle is a stop you must make.

Very 4 star overall. Food was a bit like ordinary pub grub, good portion sizes, not overly flavourful, mostly a tourist haunt and Notting Hill staple. Good, not great.

Cena classica da pub, fish and Chips per alcuni di noi, salsiccia e purea o cotoletta per altri. Tutti siamo rimasti soddisfatti, cibo saporito e birra ottima (Budvar dark). Servizio celere e fattivo. Prezzi in linea con Londra (40€ a testa).

El 27 de diciembre de 2024 fuimos al Castillo para una comida caliente. El pub estaba bastante lleno debido al período festivo y el personal era amable aunque trabajando bajo presión. Por lo tanto, estábamos preparados para una larga espera. Después de 45 minutos fui al personal para comprobar si nuestra comida estaba llegando. Me dijeron que llegaría en 3 minutos. Lamentablemente el tiempo de espera se hizo aún más largo. Después de 50 minutos estaba bastante molesto y frustrado y me quejé por el mal servicio. Pensamos que era inaceptable y esto nos hizo realmente infelices. Finalmente tuvimos nuestra comida, que era bueno y sabroso. Al final de la comida nos sirvieron un plato extra junto con muchas disculpas por las molestias. Nos dieron dos rebanadas de pastel y un sorbo de whisky. Todos apreciamos enormemente el gesto, mostró cuidado, atención y respeto al cliente. El personal fue muy comprensivo y profesional, siempre atendiendo o contestando de manera amable y con una sonrisa: Gunn’s, Dixy, Tulsi, Diksha Considerando todo esto, el acto de bondad que recibimos convirtió nuestra experiencia en positiva y feliz. Recomendaría este pub por la buena comida y el personal cortés.

Very nice pub for lunch on Portobello Road in the heart of Notting Hill. My schnitzel (breaded chicken cutlet) was delicious and so were the kids' burgers! The triple chocolate brownie is killer!

We were a table of 4 on 23rd December. The server/waiter was not pleasant. We were told by one of the bar staff that we could NOT order drinks at the bar. Then when one of our friends ordered a coffee to go with her meal, she was not given any sugar & when we asked.. the sachets of 'candarel' were thrown on the table! We had to ask AGAIN for sugar, not sweeteners. We were not given cutlery or condiments either. The service was apalling and as locals, we will not be eating there again.

6 of us had lunch on a busy Friday lunchtime... service was very friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 x haddock and chips, schnitzel, steak sandwich, sausage & mash and sea bass fillets. All looked amazing and all diners very happy. I was blown away by the sea bass - best combo I've had and beautifully cooked. Thanks all at The Castle for a great lunch!

I went there last Sunday and I was really impressed. I had the sunday roast and it was really really good. The staff was so kind and the place was so cosy. I higly recommend this place.

We visited this restaurant hoping for a good experience but were quite disappointed. Upon entering, we waited for someone to assist us with seating, but no one approached us for quite some time. Eventually, we were informed that the place was pretty much fully booked, leaving us no choice but to leave. A bit more prompt communication or a clear notice about availability would have been appreciated.

Perfect last lunch in London! Typical pub with English menu. The staff was very friendly and attentive to intolerances and allergies. I was looking for a place to eat Roast Chicken and in this restaurant it is spectacular! It is accompanied by vegetables and wine sauce (can be added separately). Super recommended!

Loved it! We found it very random while walking around, we got a table right away, no waiting (which I reaaaaally appreciate). The castle was a bit brighter and more cheerful than your average pub. Staff was very friendly, table service was attentive and the overall vibe was very nice. Chill, yet lively.

The food is great, the price is certainly not cheap, the location of the place is very good, the best is Valentina, an Italian who served us wonderfully, a 10 for her!

Thank you for the opportunity to elaborate on my earlier review (3 star). Appreciating that one’s experiences are unique and individual. The reasons for giving a rating of 3 for our visit are due to the food. We ordered a prawn and crab linguine and steak and ale pie together with apple crumble and couple of drinks. There were 4 shrimps (I counted) and cannot find the crab meat with my (rehydrated) pasta. The shrimps (small) were defrosted, understandable as we are no way near the fish market. My partner (son of a baker) indicated that the pie was frozen and reheated which account for the cold stew inside and the tough pastry. The mash was great though with lots of cream and butter. While we were there, a party of 12 came in and resulted in a major reshuffle of the tables and chairs - the noise of dragging furniture across timber floor can be challenging to people of our age - the patrons kept mentioning that they had made reservations. The South Asian looking waiter was very attentive, thank you. While we were here yesterday, there were a number of tables which were not clean up after patrons left - partly account for the reshuffle of furniture.

Really disappointed with my experience here. The female bartender was incredibly rude and made us feel like we were a bother just for ordering drinks. The place has a nice atmosphere, but the bad attitude ruined the night. With so many other pubs around, I’d suggest going somewhere with friendlier service.
