The Castle in Castle Point

Had a lovely lunch with my daughter this afternoon the food was amazing! Love the new menu the skin-on fries are lovely staff are brilliant.

Had the most wonderful experience at The Castle bar and restaurant at Hadleigh Essex , Mary at the bar was polite , served with a smile , I would recommend a drink and food here to all . Was my first visit and very looking forward to coming back again , they have live bands Saturdays which I hear are awesome , thank you to all staff at the castle including Una and for making my first visit a great experience .

The staff were so helpful and the communication was amazing really love this place and will definitely be coming back as this was our first visit

Service was great from all staff. We had the mega mixed grill and double hunters chicken which was lovely. mary was extremely polite an always makes u want to stay 😊

Had lunch today at The Castle. Everything on my surf n turf was cooked to perfection and my Husband’s mixed grill was so good, he loved it! Great it is dog friendly too! Really good service from Mary and Oona. Will definitely be back soon

Went for dinner and to watch the football food was fantastic service was excellent friendly great atmosphere very clean dog friendly the manager Una couldn’t do enough for us , definitely will be back

Tuesday lunchtime visit, friendly staff, food arrived hot and tasted good

It looks a little run down from the street, but inside it's nice and clean. Good food and a good drink selection for a reasonable price. The toilets were clean and service was swift. Went in on a Sunday about 1pm and it was fairly quiet (possibly due to the presence of a McDonalds next door) and easily found a table in the conservatory. I had jerk chicken skewers and my wife had a burger. Both were really delicious and well recommended.

Wasn't overcrowded, and there was a choice of eating in the bar which was showing the football, or the conservatory which had background music playing. The food was excellent, and we didn't have to wait ages to be served. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely go again.

I'm sorry that I didn't leave a review after my Father's wake was held here back in October. The service and food was great and Una arranged everything without any fuss. We had the conservatory to ourselves and never felt rushed. My Father used to come to the pub and I was brought up in Hadleigh, unfortunately my previous experience last Xmas was not good, but this more than made up for it on what was a sad day for us. I hear that the pub is having a much needed refurbishment in January and I wish you all the best for the future, I look forward to seeing it when we can.

I booked the buffet for my husband's wake at the Castle pub Hadleigh . The food was fantastic and plenty of it . It was present in an appetizing way. We had the whole of the conservatory for the get together and no other customers were allowed to come in , so it was a private function. The staff were friendly and amazing and nothing too much trouble. I can recommend the Castle buffet food for any occasion and for the price we paid was excellent. Don't be put off by the low cost because everyone enjoyed the quality of the food .

Had lunch today with hubby. At 12.15 we were the only ones in the conservatory. Took half hour to bring food. Mushy peas went back as were cold. Bread was still frozen in the middle...that went back. The waiter was very apologetic and helpful, he was behind the bar a little while before, perhaps short staffed? I am now not surprised that the restaurant part was not busy. Cannot recommend.

First impressions of the castle was it looked a bit run down and in desperate need of a refurb. However taking that aside because looks are not everything. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food was very good. Me and my partner both had a burger - both were fantastic. I don't eat burgers much, but I really enjoyed mine. Very reasonable prices - you pay the same amount of money at mcdonalds theses days. They accept blue light discount 10% too which is a bonus. Thank you very much. We will be returning again:)

Loved this pub so much I've become a regular. Always receive a friendly welcome, even in the busy times. Always feel safe, even when I go on my own, because I don't feel I'm on my own once I walk through the door. Often eat here too and can recommend the curly fries and the mushrooms as my personal favourites, and plenty of other yummy dishes to enjoy too.

Customer service from the staff was excellent. On arrival we was told that the kitchen is now closed, but after explaining that we booked our time slot online and it did not say the kitchen would be closed from 15:00-17:00, the staff Mary & Charlie accommodated us.and the service and food we received was good. However I do feel that the online booking needs to be updated, as to not allow patrons to book time slots where the kitchen will be closed.

There was this young man who was very polite and lovely. His service on Friday night was quick and efficient and was very kind. His name was Terry and made my dining experience a brilliant and fun time !!!

A very pleasant experience. Comfortable, quiet pub with a conservatory. We ate in the main bar. Fish and chips was excellent. Could not fault it. Prices were exceptionally reasonable. Well worth a visit for a good, inexpensive meal and drinks.

Could not fault our meal or service. Fish. chips and peas in a 2 for £11 deal! It would cost that for one in our local chippie and it would not be as fresh or well presented.

i really love this place, its my local and i wouldn't change anything about it, the atmosphere is great, the staff are brilliant and really make sure your having the best of times. i was here with my family on Wednesday night, for dinner, the food was beautiful and the steaks were cooked how we wanted. when we needed help with what to order the staff had it in control and was really helpful. We didn't know it was a quiz night, looked really fun maybe next i can join in. cant wait to be back!

Very surprised how welcoming the staff were and how pleasant the interior of the pub was when we popped in for the first time in over 20 years. We didn’t eat but the food looked very tempting and we will definitely eat on out next visit. The young barmaid Elle was especially friendly and helpful. It’s a pity the outside is in desperate need of a makeover as that must put people off venturing inside.

Went here for lunch . The sitting area is lovely bright and spacious. Not many patrons were here. Unfortunately some food was unavailable For instance we ordered 2 fish and chips but they only had 1 so needed to change. So I chose lasagna it arrived with 2 sad looking bits of garlic bread . It was ok but didn't come with a side salad. Which would've been nice.

It's fine - and a lot cheaper than most Southend pubs. Dog friendly. But very few women to be seen.

Lovely place, planty of space where you can have your own time. Fantastic conservatory. Confortable seats. Very cosy back garden. I love it. DOGS🐕🐕‍🦺 are welcome indoors and outdoor, thank you for that. Service, lack of spirit of good customer service. Over-all definitely recommend and return.

Our second time there tonight, this time six of us went. All the food was really tasty, very good sized portions and there was no long wait for the food. One of our group has a gluten intolerancy and she couldn't have been better looked after. The lady who served us came out and spoke to her in depth and then when back to the kitchen and double checked every request so she could eat without worrying. Both times we have been there we have been very well looked after and we will definitely be going back again and again.

Great value for money with Groupon voucher. We had the chicken fajita skillets which were really tasty. Mary and her team did an amazing job at welcoming us and looking after our every need. Was first time at this pub. Me and mum both had the steak and it was amazing. Lovely young barmaid too who was very helpful about the app. Only little complaint is their is not really access for wheelchair or mobility scooter....luckily we had table by door but apart from this we enjoyed it at this pub

Not a nice atmosphere in this restaurant, I felt quite let down. I am sure regulars like it there but for someone who is just passing by I would stay away. Most of the staff were ok apart from one man who was very rude (not sure his name, he is cleaning tables constantly). He brought us someone else's order, was annoyed and rude when I told him it wasnt ours, he kept arguing with me that he has the right table number until lady from another table called him that it was their order. He then gave them food and just left without saying as much as "sorry about that". That being said there was absolutely zero interaction from staff unless we chased them down. Some food had very long waiting time, especially dessert (kids ice cream). Te food was what I would expect from restaurant with that atmosphere. Starters were much better than main courses.

I always find the castle very friendly and welcoming. All the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The bar maid Ellie is very professional and a beautiful soul . I’ve never had a bad meal there either

Great find, happened to stop here for a quick bite whilst visiting friends. Very friendly, tasty food all at great prices....what more can you ask for! We will definately be back!

Amazing food. And what a great selection of cocktails!

Went on a Groupon voucher, limited menu especially when they haven't got what you want, no excuse as it was 5.30 on a Friday evening and a full menu should be available, other people were asking for different items only to be told that they weren't available. We settled for scampi not what we really wanted and it was reformed cheap and not good, perhaps we went on a bad night.

Booking food via app at table didn't work, it only showed 3 meals possible to book

This pub has had a poor reputation over the years, what a transformation... Good atmosphere and welcoming, food plentiful and reasonable, somthing going on most nights.

Don’t waste your money and avoid at any cost -disgusting toilets which looks like no one clean it at all for months plus urine on the floor, chips were soggy and overdone. On top of that attitude from miserable barmaid.. terrible

Recently moved to hadleigh first time visit for food . there was 10 of us and they were short staffed The food was hot and tasty brilliant value. And the few staff that were run ragged were very polite and helpful considering their shortage

I like the landlady especially as she made me feel welcome even though I was a newbie last year and she remembered me on this visit which made me feel welcome. Maybe a few more bar stools to sit up bar as its limited with space for more seating and tables and it's nice to sit up the bar. Your offers always seem pretty good and well priced and the score predictor is great as well. No real negatives Tbh.

I went on a Friday evening as I know a member of the band that was playing there. I was not full so we had room to get up and have a dance.

Went in there for the first time nothing saying about putting in your number plate in the machine. Then went to order food at 16.00 and was told the kitchen was closed from 3.00-5.00. Again nothing saying the kitchen is closed. Went asked behind the bar she said it’s on our Facebook page well not everyone does Facebook. They really should be more clear and putting signs up there is a poster saying droid from 12.00 but nothing about the kitchen being closed. The bar maid had bit of a attitude and not really friendly. Won’t be coming back

It's ok but I was trying to have a civilised conversation and the pub can't accommodate that as it's so small the noise was very loud. If I was there to have a drink and be merry then it would have been good but as it was a meeting it was not the right place. So I'd say good for a knees up but not good for a meeting.

Huge improvement from the management and staff over previous teams years ago. Really make the effort on customer service and now arranging great regular events Well done

My sister and I held our late mothers wake at the Castle in Hadleigh in their conservatory which was exclusively for our use Well what can we say , from the moment of booking to the end of the day it was fantastic The staff are so friendly and helpful, the food (buffet menu )was delicious and very well prepared and presented, the drinks menu is extensive. All our guests said it was a great venue and we have decided to all meet up there again in the future, hopefully in happier times. The cost was very reasonable for such great spread and service. Thank you for making this sad day into a very special occasion.

The hunters chicken nacho's are amazing, people need to try these…. Mary and Una are amazing bar staff too, 100% recommend this pub!!!

Great meal and friendly atmosphere

Went out for a meal with my family but my meal turned up 10 minutes after my wife and children had finished their's with no explanation as to why...one save and grace was the food was nice and the manger gave the kids their afters for free....would love to go back but not so keen after our first experience
