This is a great place to go, Jill and her team couldn't be nicer. Food and service was very good, we booked a table for 10 for Mothers day and we couldn't have been treated better.

Came for a Mothers Day lunch. Had a beautiful roast dinner, couldn't fault it at all. Only my eyes were bigger than my belly. I got a lovely candle and chocolate bar (fruit and Nut) as a gift from the pub at end of the meal, which was a lovely little touch. Thank you everyone 💓

Food took a while but worth the wait

Was so lovely to sit in the beer garden in March with the sun shining. Was a great atmosphere. Food is also great at this pub with a good selection. Would recommend. Just note please get your car registered when you arrive. Great pub

It's stupid expensive so expect central London prices. Usually totally worth it though. I genuinely love so the staff and that's what I pay for!

I had the top area of the pub for private booking on Saturday afternoon/evening of 22nd February. Firstly I would like to express my gratitude for all the staff that looked after my party and who couldn't do enough for us; from covering the TV screens, letting us have our own music and serving up a marvellous buffet. And it really is a lovely space for a small gathering such as mine. My only slightly negative point is in relation to the buffet; I ordered the main buffet for 40 people, the cheese platter for 20 people and the chicken platter for 40 people, but when it came out there was no chicken. When I queried this the chef said that I hadn't ordered it. He did go on to apologise and corrected this by cooking it, but by the time it materialised most people had eaten and, other than the nuggets, a lot of it was untouched. I have given this review 5 starts because the buffet on the whole was very tasty and plentiful, so overall a very good experience.

Called in for a drink with friends after work and parked in the pub car park then a week later got a £100 parking ticket through the post. Tried calling the pub and left a voicemail but nobody got back to me. We will not be returning.

Had lunch and was served by an amazing lady called Amanda. She was excellent and served me very well. She was a manger I think. The pub is quite big and is close to a train station. So I will choo choo choose to come here again.

Best mixed grill I have ever had from many restaurants. Large pieces of gammon, steak, and chicken. All cooked to perfection. As well as usual pineapple slice, chips, green veg and tomato slices.

The food is spot on.. offers are amazing on the food... Parking available.. don't forget to register your car number plate! Ask the staff where the screen is..

A huge thank you to Debbie and her wonderful team! It was our annual Mum’s & Kids Xmas outing consisting of 19 of us. We had a small window to eat and drink before heading out to catch the train to the Basildon Panto. Debbie made sure we had our own area and the team ensured everything ran smoothly, indeed it did! The atmosphere was very festive, food perfect and us mums could relax with a glass of wine. Nothing was too much trouble , Debbie and the team were there at every point with a smile, aside from the fact the pub was heaving inside and out , we couldn’t fault the service one bit. We enjoyed our company Christmas lunch at this venue and found it perfect for all our requirements. We were 13 people in total and were seated on two tables at right angles to each other for easy conversation with one another. Food was excellent, staff accommodating and a lovely festive atmosphere all round 👍

6 friends and myself went to the Hoy and Helmet for Christmas lunch today. The food was very good all cooked to perfection and plenty on the plates . The serving waitresses were very cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. The table looked really festive and cutlery clean. Thank you to the staff and chefs for making our Christmas lunch so enjoyable.

Group of 8 people enjoyed the Festive Fayre menu on Monday 16th December. The food was nicely cooked and presented, and considering how busy it was the service was very good. I would certainly recommend the place for good quality pub food in a convivial atmosphere.

Fantastic old pub. Excellent staff are all friendly and helpful. The food is excellent vfm. Austin the dyslexic quiz master is a great laugh, tbh he's wasted here and could easily entertain larger audiences. We've been coming here every Monday for over a year now and the staff make us feel so welcome I actually regard this pub as my local even though I live 10 miles away 😀

We visited on Sat 30 Nov for an early works Chirstmas dinner for 15 people. The booking process was simple and they reserved a lovely area for us with the group split over 2 tables. The food was delicious (and plentiful) and Gill looked after us so well from the moment we arrived to ensure everyone had a great night. Thank you for a lovely evening.

I have been married and lived on Canvey for 53 years, I have driven past the hoy and helmet a thousand times but today was the first time I have visited on a friends recommendation. The weather was beautiful and we decided to sit in the garden, I say garden, that is an understatement!! Probably the best , most inviting outdoor area I have enjoyed in the UK. there is a considerable amount of parking, a beautiful outdoor under umbrellas seating area and then the open fronted under cover area with a full bar, and traditional pizza oven. We ordered drinks and food, the barman was so friendly, efficient and polite it was a pleasure to be served by him. Our food was served piping hot and a good portion, well cooked and tasty. The barman and a waitress both checked that all was to our liking, which it was. Food prices were reasonable and a variety of meal and meal and drink deals were available all giving value for money. All in all a very enjoyable lunchtime and we will certainly be returning on a regular basis, Jeff Golding.

Came to the hoy and helmet for a quick family meal in the week and ended up staying all evening! Lovely outside area, friendly staff and the food was great. We had pizzas which came very quick and some small plates. We were really impressed with the food and particularly enjoyed the buffalo fries! Will definitely be back!

I was served by two young lads behind the bar on Friday night they were very pleasant and were very helpful when ordering drinks and food. The pizzas were lovely and we had a great evening .

3 of us had a Sunday lunch here recently and really didn’t think much of it. Only had 2 potatoes each. A thin slice of meat and not much veg. The refurbishment is great.

We just love this pub as it’s our local .. even better since the refurb .. we find it very clean and welcoming.. staff are fab very friendly can’t do enough .. they always stop to have a chat and ask how you are ……there’s never a dirty table glasses and plates are cleared away quickly ..The Atmosphere is always warm and friendly.. Will go there for many years to come … also want to add when we order our drinks a lot of the time the bar staff remember what we have which is really nice ….keep up the good work … Highly recommend this Pub 🙂🍻… from two of your regulars Sallie and Pete

Greatly improved pub since the refurbishment. I have lived in Benfleet for four years and prior to the refurb only visited once. Go there quite often now. Great food menu and service. My only gripe would be the guy behind the bar isn't the best at customer service. And there are no zero alcohol beers on draft.

Pizza in the garden is great and drink prices are very fair but ordered a steak and chips and asked for medium rare and got very very well done and chips that needed longer Shame as would have been a better rating if not for that

Generally a nice place I did take note to enter my car reg in the machine at the main bar, but I have received a £100 fine.... I have appealed and will refuse to pay as i did follow the instructionson the sign, but if I hadn't read the signs, the door staff and bar staff didn't say a word... I find that entrapping and very disappointing... the machine doesn't give receipts, so it is your word against their cctv... very one-sided, I feel, very disappointing

Wow. What a beautiful pub I absolutely loved the decor and the area out the back was just perfect pizza oven and bar..... We came after a long walk from Pitsea and it couldn't have been more perfect. Great food and friendly staff ❤️please let is book early for Christmas!!!!

Been there for lunch a few times since it has been refurbished it always was a nice place for pub food and drinks but even nicer now with the new outside seating and the pizza bar would recommend, staff are really nice especially Jo who looked after us nothing was too much trouble for her

We had lunch ciabatta with crispy chicken and skin on fries with a glass of wine for under 10 pounds, very reasonable.

1st time here, expecting a small old fashioned pub but got a huge surprise when I walked out into the garden! What a fantastic setup! Lovely new outside bar and patio area,terrific size and layout. Inside the pub very quaint, lots of 'nooks' - you could be in there with 4 or 5 friends and not realise they are sitting round the corner! Huge choice of beers, and all staff were very friendly. I've already started recommending friends take a look hoping that I get an invite too 😀

Lunch was good although not worth 5 stars. Non alcohol wine on the menu but this is my second visit since the referb and not available. Was informed by the manager that it doesn't sell, but if they haven't got it how can we buy it. Non alcoholic cocktails not up to much. Not sure if I will rush back. No gluten free options either .

Such a wonderful place very chilled Beautiful decor would highly recommend me and my husband spent our wedding Anniversary here last night wanted to try somewhere new and the staff were very friendly and welcoming the food was amazing from start to finish very reasonable priced will be coming back here with our teens very soon.

Went here on Monday and had the small plates. 5 in our party including a 4 year old child and 2 people ended up with serious food poisoning! One of which is still breastfeeding their new born! Approached the assistance manager on shift and was told they hope they get better soon. No apology, no accountability and didn’t even say they would let the kitchen know! Absolute shambles and will never be visiting again!

Great pub, recently given a face lift and now has a beautiful pub garden, great for friends and family for lunch. Plenty of events to be had. Owner is a friendly face and always happy to help ! Would recommend for watching events such as the euros etc this summer !! Definitely coming back !!

Very friendly, great atmosphere for a birthday meal. Great food.

I was quite disappointed with the food the burgers are advertised and promoted as "smashed on the grill for extra flavour". This is not the case the burger I was served was a bland meally patty that was clearly factory pressed with no moisture or flavour. Considering a similar issue was flagged about the burgers by someone else nearly a month previous I had hoped it had been rectified but clearly not. Everything else was OK but when something advertised it should be as so. So for me that tainted the rest of the meal.

An already lovely pub made even better by the refurbishment! As it was a sunny day, my friends and I sat outside, they really have gone to town out there creating a beer garden with a large TV screen for watching sport (with sound), and even a covered area with bar, more seating, heat lamps, pizza kitchen, and toilets, meaning that we didn’t have to trek inside when we wanted another drink or the toilet. Outside is great for dog owners too. Friendly and chatty staff. My friends ordered food, (I didn’t), but they said it was tasty and large portion sizes, and there was a large variety of drinks to choose from, which were reasonably priced. Our first time at the hoy since the refurb and we would definitely return, the beer garden would be perfect for watching the Euro’s (now just to hope for some sunshine).

Came in to watch boxing on screen with partner last nite never would step in there again .. 100s of youngsters in there drinking and snorting drugs 5 bouncers controlling apparently then at the end of the evening a big punch up in car park and loads of police .this pub is a disgrace no one has control at all just a drink and drug pub and a nice fight to end the evening. Never again for me and my partner .

Bar staff in complete confusion over the menus so ordering took an age. One order was forgotten .Deserts, ordered at the beginning came 20 mins after mains were finished. One of these was wrong.

The new outdoor section is amazing. The bar there could have done with better thought and planning. Queue forms very quickly with only 2 bar staff working in a small area.

So booked a table to eat , very very noisy music playing so had to move tables . The order service for food is terrible!!!! Having to go to the bar knee deep in people waiting for drinks !! Took us over 20 minutes to get served, think it would be better for table service to take food orders…. Waited for food to come , to be served dry chips cold burgers …. Sorry but you really need to rethink your order of food service…… will not be returning!!

First visit here since a big refurbishment. Lovely atmosphere the food was superb, reasonably priced and a great choice. We chose to go for lunchtime, great special offers till 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Friendly staff, and we will definitely be vack for more of the same. So lucky to have this on our doorstep.

I had a cheese burger that was cold had to pay 50p extra for the the cheese. Also had a cup of Tea and they gave me a jug of hot milk thats wrong in my eyes

A well presented pub, looks fab after the refurbishment. Money well spent. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately the pub is let down by the food. Burgers were over cooked and very dry. Lettuce was limp and chewy. Chips were barely warm and they were very tight with the portion size. Seniors meal portion is smaller than a child’s. Would return for drinks only

Went to the hoy for boozey bingo. They host Austen made the night more entertaining with the prizes that you could win! Great entertainment would definitely come again! Amazing night out!!!

Since the recent refurb in April 2024 the pub has improved in some areas. The decor is much better now, more modern, and the condition of the gents toilets has vastly improved. There is now an undercover seating area outside with heaters and a bar, with a large TV. The staff seemed pleasant, but the service was still a little slow. For food, we tried the hunters chicken which was okay, but it wasn't amazing. Our verdict on the chips was that they weren't great and the portion size was a bit small. The meal was also advertised as having onion rings on the side; so it was a bit disappointing when the meal arrived with just two small onion rings that unfortunately had little flavour. Overall, a nicely presented pub now, and a place I'd recommend to have a drink, but the food and service still needs some improvement.

I went to the Hoy tonight, fantastic atmosphere due to the Football,I watched the game in the new Area outback a was served by Kyley and Miguel who were both outstanding.I highly recommended this pub.
