A lot of pubs these days go for an 'authentic' rustic vibe. Not The Carriers Arms, this is as authentic and rustic as you can get, it was almost like a trip back in time, from the decor to the air stained with the smell of a real fire. The room we stayed in was a million miles from this, modern, smart, well maintained. The bed was comfy and there were lots of choices for tea and coffee in the room, even a few biscuits too. The bathroom was also well maintained and smartly decorated. Breakfast was exceptional, everything was cooked well and very tasty, very fresh too. Great coffee, ice cold selection of fresh juices. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

We were lucky enough to visit during the last day of our stay with friends locally., the pub had been closed for the first two weeks of our visit while they were modernizing the kitchen. We enjoyed a lovely roast dinner - with all the trimmings - the food was delicious and seemed popular as every other table was occupied!

We stopped in at the Carriers on our way home from Longleat to try their roast dinners and were pleasantly surprised that unlike some places that only offer full roasts on a Sunday they also offered a selection of panni's and basket meals which suited the little ones perfectly. We had a roast beef and a stuffed chicken breast with a crispy apple dumpling dessert to share and were thoroughly impressed. Unlike most pubs the beef was cooked to perfection (my husband commented that it was probably the best we have had outside of London) and there was plenty of veg on the side!

We visited the pub twice during our holidays in the area, also enjoying a delicious dinner on one of the nights. The Carriers are very much worth a visit: a definition of an excellent local, family-owned pub. The landlords are very welcoming and friendly. Dogs are very welcome in the pub but be mindful of the two resident cats - best to ask the landlords about the situation when you arrive!

A quaint little pub with rather friendly landlord/landlady, however we stopped visiting during the summer as it became obvious they didnt care about covid protocols, everyone was still crowded around the bar and noone was socially distancing.More of a drinkers pub than an eating pub so understandable that its harder to enforce social distancing but some effort would have been nice... also no parking :(

Stayed here on a Saturday night while visiting family. Booked in in afternoon and had a quick beer, was shown around the property and how to get access to the room if we were late. Slightly small room but okay for an overnight, really cosy, clean room with a nice clean bright shower room. Free WiFi, tv, tea and coffee facilities. The pub was still open when we got in so we had a night cap, of course, really friendly landlord and landlady and cat . Really comfortable bed, nearly overslept! Full English breakfast with good quality bacon, sausages, etc, with good coffee, toast etc.Overall had a lovely stay. Oh and the pub is an authentic, old, English pub, worth visiting even if only for the food, drinks and ambiance.

After a recent trip to the LONGLEAT FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, We were fortunate enough to spend TWO NIGHTS at the CARRIERS INN in Stockton Park village. The hosts Steve and Jean were very pleasant and welcoming to their lovely Inn. The inn has a nice homely feel to it olde worldly infact. The bedrooms of which there are 3, are tastefully done and all ensuite. We ate at the inn both nights and the food was really good and a good choice too. Steve and Jean do all the cooking and and are ably assisted by the young waitress Emma. There was/is a lovely open log fire which set the homely feel even more,(but that depends on the time of year). There was also a pool table and a dart board to have a game on (which we did) and even had James one of the locals scoring for us. The locals are all very friendly and good for local knowledge. They also have live music which goes down very well with the locals and people from a far. There are lots of places within a short drive to visit from the CARRIERS. Stourhead house and lake. Longleat, Lacock village (N/Trust) Bath (easier by train from Warminster) to name but a few. The Carriers also has a nice little garden which we will be frequenting in the summer days. All in all, after a drive out visiting some of the sights, a welcome return to the CARRIERS for a well earned drink from a well stocked bar and a spot of real home cooked food from Steve and Jean, find yourself a seat and settle down for the evenings entertainment. We will definitely be giving it another visit in the coming new year.

Lunchtime when we went it was sandwiches or ploughmans. We both had a pork pie ploughman's lunch which was delicious and filling. Went back for an evening meal another day and as it was Thursday it was pie night, no other options. Two types of pie with either chips or mash. We visited 'The Carriers' on the way to Center Parcs as we had seen the reviews on Trip Advisor. The village itself is straight off a chocolate box and gave us a good feeling of what was ahead. There isn't a car park but parking was no problem at all in the village lane.We received a very warm welcome and given a nice large table for myself, my wife and 3 boys. Our youngest Archie is 2 and he was given a high chair and numerous toys to occupy him as we were warned that there may be a little wait as the food was cooked freshly and we hadn't booked - not that this was a problem at all. The food came very quickly but we had enough time to enjoy a drink and relax in the very comfortable surroundings. The food itself was truly EXCELLENT! We had a mixture of dishes, Fish, Steak and Gammon amongst others and they were all worthy of a spot on master chef.We then indulged in dessert and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Was to die for. There is only one problem with this pub/restaurant .......it is a 2 hour drive from my home!! Probably not a bad thing for my waistline though. If you are in this part of the world or heading to Center Parcs or Longleat, make sure you visit as it would be a crime to miss out! Saw reviews of this place on trip advisor so thought we'd go out for a drive and see for ourselves. First thing is it's in a tiny little village. Second thing as soon as we walked in the Landlady gave us a great big smile. Staff very warm and polite. We had the Lyme Regis crab with rustic roll. It was delicious and presented with a small salad which was very fresh. On the down side the inside could do with a bit more decor and the outside is tired and in need of redecorating. In fairness the new owners haven't been there long so I'm sure its on the to do list. Looking forward to going there for an evening meal as we saw some having lunch there and it looked great. We visited this pub based on previous reviews. We were not disappointed. We didn't book but the owners were more than happy to take food orders despite it being early and them not expecting anyone in. The food was very good, very large portions and our sometimes fussy 18 month old also enjoyed her meal and polished off nearly the whole plateful. The owners were very accommodating to our daughter and brought her food out with our starters and gave her a toy to play with, and their young daughter also occupied her whilst we ate our main course. Myself and 4 friends visited on the way to centre parcs. We booked a table and when we arrived it was all ready and waiting for us. The lady behind the bar was an absolute delight and the food great value and delicious, the chips being the highlight! If your pass by, waiting to check into centre parks or just looking for a really good meal out - the carriers is the place to go!

Drawn to this establishment via a sign on the a36! - very good decision to take a detour. This really is an excellent country establishment - we were warmly welcomed and treated to an excellent Sunday lunch - the beef was succulent. The beer was well kept and the team behind the bar excellent.I would say that the Sunday lunch price did seem slightly high but I appreciate that costs have to be covered - would I go again? yes and I would certainly gladly pay for the lunch!

We went to The Carriers purely on reviews on Trip Advisor and we weren't disappointed. They say first impressions last. Well this is the first pub/restaurant that rang me back having not got to the phone in time and I'm very glad they did. The welcome we got was very warm and friendly and we were shown to a great table by the fire. Lovely! The menu was simple but covered all the essentials required of a roast dinner including three meat options and plenty on offer for our to children. The beef was fabulous and no silly fancy vegetables, just a wholesome, well cooked homey roasted selection. As well as the staff, the locals also made us feel very welcome which doesn't always happen in village pubs. The kids were given games to play whilst we enjoyed our deserts and treats from th staff when they finished their meals. I can't praise the place enough. Well done! We'll certainly be back. R King. We had a lovely family meal here, which is a delightful pub restaurant in a very pretty village. The food was really fresh and delicious, and the owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were a group of 11 and everything was done to make our visit enjoyable, and we certainly had a wonderful time. We all agreed that we would like to visit again. I can highly recommend a visit to The Carriers!

Three adults & 2 kids on our way from London to Longleat for the illuminations. Needed a lunch stop en route having come off the M4 heading south. Found this highly rated via tripadvisor and turned off our route. Very pleased we did - very friendly welcome and well looked after. Good menu and good food. Can't remember all the food but it included a chicken burger, ham egg & chips and a macaroni cheese for a vegetarian. A couple of beers and a few chats with the staff later and we were on our way. Many thanks, Michael.

We stumbled across this wonderful olde English pub while exploring the beautiful Wylye Valley just north of Salisbury. A friendly landlady Julie greeted us with a beaming smile and helped us select from the comprehensive menu after pouring a couple of pints of delicious well kept real ale. We relaxed straight away after the stress of the A303 [which seemed a million miles away despite being only a few miles down the lane!]...almost like being in a time machine to when great customer service and genuine warm friendliness went hand in hand.My meal was 'melt in your mouth' Wiltshire ham and double fried chips....served promptly with all the trimmings including another beaming smile...fabulous! My wife's meal was equally delicious and exactly as ordered.Although the weather was against us we also sampled the quaint beer garden with pond and magnificent mature trees.....we'll be back again....thank you!

We became aware that this free house pub was under new ownership and decided to take a look. Set in a lovely Wiltshire village off the A36 we found a little gem, used by locals and others alike the former giving good feedback. A range of real ales on tap, a (very welcome) short menu where we just had a light "starter" for lunch which was excellent. The owners have only been in for a few weeks but apparently have turned the place around with ever increasing positive reviews. Fully partaking in village life with live bands and events. Two rooms for "B&B". Simple no nonsense decor. Nice sunny garden out back. Your dog is welcome. A proper pub. Friendly staff and clientele.

We visited the Carrier Arms whilst on our way to Devon from Brighton , as we detoured and stumbled across this gem. Small menu. Great produce, the honey glazed goats cheese is a must followed by the fish and chips or smoked fish plate. We usually wouldn't have a three course meal but couldn't resist after having such delicious mains. Friendly service. Great atmosphere. Have already shared our experience and details of this wonderful establishment with friends and family and hope you'll enjoy.

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

Unfortunately unable to review accomodation, food or service as we were double booked. Apparently landlords wife responsible for this so she was summoned. Landlord then completely ignored us and didnt even offer us a seat let alone an apology, this was left to his wife. She didnt seem well and was apparently in hospital at the time of our booking. She went away, 20 mins later produced £140 to cover the cost at premier inn who had ample availability and she had phoned them. Premier Inn denied any phone calls from Helen. They had one room which went whilst we were trying to book it. Plenty of certificates of awards, shame they are so old and tatty like the pub. I hate being lied to but rudeness, lies and facing a night in the car... Dont book here, disgraceful performance. Tired and niaive, should have insisted they booked it in front of us! Took the edge off Bath Christmas market tbh!

We popped in this cafe during our 80 mile walk for some much needed hot food . The staff were fantastic, especially the waitress who couldn’t help us enough
