My wife and I came during the day while visiting Castle Comb and had a fantastic experience. The staff when out of their way to be friendly and engaging. We were struggling to get a taxi and the wonderful woman at reception called about 10 numbers to find us one. It was such a positive experience and I hope to come back one day.

Magnificent mansion, magnificent estate and superb room. In terms of quality, cleanliness of the infrastructure, nothing to complain about, everything is perfect, even more than perfect. A very nice touch in the room for my birthday with a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates. The breakfast is excellent, high quality and gargantuan. The bartender is also very professional, helpful and pleasant. On the other hand, the quality of reception and check-out could be improved. The welcome is not the warmest although professional. The staff at breakfast are very professional. However, one person was really very cold, bordering on unpleasant. For the quality and price of the hotel's services, it's a shame. The biggest disappointment was not being able to purchase the large Lionel the lion soft toy, which is in all the rooms and, which is in all the photos of the hotel. There's even a message attached to his neck, stating that he's for sale at the front desk. However, at reception, we are told that this is not possible, that only the intermediate format remains. When you advertise everywhere, when you promise your child to "adopt" him, and in the end, there are none left or none, I find it borderline unprofessional. Especially when you pay £600 for a night, the least you can do is make sure you find a solution for the customer

Ate here on a Sunday evening, the Restaurant is attached to a beautiful country manor style hotel and has been refurbished to give a much more contemporary feel, stripped back table settings, lots of greenery, soft lighting a beautiful wine wall and an understated elegance that has been well thought through, tables are nicely spaced and are a really good size. Had a drink in the bar then quickly through to the Restaurant, staff were friendly, attentive, well trained and happy to engage, Marius the wine waiter was superb. Menu is tasting only, which i love, about ten courses in all, food was absolutely incredible, appears quite stripped back in style, but under that it's beautifully crafted, very technical, extremely well balanced and created witha real understanding of how a tasting menu should be constructed, absoultely fantastic, highlights were the Trout, Apple and Barkham blue, chocolate fig and blackberry and the Lobster, but everything i ate was superb, in short one of the best meals iv'e ever eaten, had the wine flight to match and this was superb as well. Not cheap, but at this level of skill and the work that goes into the construction of the food worth every penny, it's recently been awarded 4 AA rosettes, and would not be surprised at all if a second star came it's way, up there with the best one stars for sure. go, you will not be disappointed

For context, this review has been written whilst considering the menu cost £145 each, with a mocktail costing £12 and an extra cheese course costing £15 and a 13.5% service charge, coming in at £380 for two people who didn’t drink alcohol. This is very expensive, and therefore expectations were set accordingly. This is more expensive than a trip to Le Gavroche in 2023 and considerably more than Salt in Stratford upon Avon in 2022, both of which were better quality overall than this experience. To start, the service was brilliant. The staff were very friendly, attentive, catered to our dietary requirements and went to a lot of trouble. They couldn’t have done any more - thank you very much. The tasting menu consisted of 7 savoury dishes and 2 sweet dishes, with an extra “sweet” dish of cheese and apple pie (which I would thoroughly recommend). There were some real gems in here, specifically the Lincolnshire poacher and also the brioche and the raspberry dessert. However, all the savoury dishes were very small, but the sweet dishes quite substantial, which made the balance of the menu feel a bit “off”. I almost wished they had reduced the number of dishes but made the portions more fulfilling. A lot of the dishes were finished in one bite (not an exaggeration). In terms of flavour, we felt that there was a bit of an over repetition of flavours, for example, two dishes in a row used truffle and mushroom, which dominated, and other dishes still featured them, hence the comment on being imbalanced. The pastry also felt fairly average. This is not to say the food is bad, not at all. As we said, some dishes and flavours were very good, but when you pay this much, you expect the meal to be exceptional, and it was not. Wouldn’t visit again, but glad we did.

Really enjoyed a special evening and the tasting menu. All courses looked beautiful and were presented by knowledgeable staff. The whole team was great - helpful, kind and sociable. They went above and beyond for us - especially Dorian who drove us home after no taxis would come to pick us up. Such service and care!!! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening and getting us home safely, Dorian!!!

It’s the first time back since 2018 and from reading some reviews here wasn’t sure if we’d return and be disappointed as we’ve only ever know it to be a great hotel. I’ve just returned and found it to be a fantastic place - I found the service levels good and a bit less formal than it used to be but in a positive way. I think the world has moved on from the stiff English approach - I appreciate some may be concerned by that but not me. The hotel has taken over the local pub and offers a breadth of eating options. We had wonderful food, drinks and highly recommend.

What a lovely place! We will definitely return ✌️The staff are super nice, friendly and welcoming. The staff in the breakfast restaurant treat you with warmth and make you feel special. They are patient with kids, and spend time in talking to them. The hotel is strongly recommended to families with small kids, very spacious lawn indeed. The room is beautiful with large bathroom, and splendid wall paper. You will really feel nothing is bothering you when you are here. On top of the amazing hotel itself, the Castle Inn restaurant is amazingly good. We had dinner there every night, 3 nights in a row, very satisfied with food and service every time.

First 5 star hotel without minibar and no daily water refill. Third night and we got only two small bottles of still water. Breakfast... Extremely on a slow side and you have to book it. What?! Michelin restaurant is okay, the tasting menu does have interesting positions but it comes with 7x markup on wine list. Absolute madness, like second wine of montrose for like 180 pounds. The second michelin (sister restaurant) - "castle in" is 100% to avoid. You will wait one hour for your venison that is 3 sashimi style pieces that weigh 60 grams. Food to share doesn't come with plates. Feels like you are just being fed. Saint emilion wine is served warm like your afternoon tea. Beautiful scenary, otherwise, but will never ever come back or recommend it. Can't wait to leave tomorrow.

Our first time visiting The Manor House but we have been to other Exclusive Collection Hotels many times. As always these hotels never fail to disappoint and neither did The Manor House. Absolutely immaculate everywhere and such a comfortable stay. We visited for our second anniversary as we got married at their sister hotel Pennyhill Park and knew The Manor House would be great if Pennyhill was anything to go by. Highly recommend the Manor House and what a gem of a location it is in too. We always leave feeling thoroughly looked after and refreshed.

I am a big fan of tasting menus. I specifically choose places to stay based on whether they offer them. I really wanted Bybrook to be amazing. I was alone. I had played a great golf course at the Manor House Golf Club that day and I was staying overnight. So I wanted to go in deep on a tasting menu and wine flight. The result was…meh. Harsh? Maybe. But this is a place charging £145 for 7 courses - all of which, by the way, are quite small - and £90 for what turned out to be 5 small glasses of wine. These are prices that would make a London Michelin star restaurant blush. It’s £235 per person in a hotel that charges around £405 per night for an above average luxury room. That ratio is bonkers. The flavours are apt in most dishes. But it is mouthfuls of quite good food, that is also quite small. Every time you finish something in one mouthful you are cognisant of the “£145 BYBROOK NEW PRICE.” The wine selection is ok, but it’s nothing world beating. There are no top tier wines. And £90 feels very expensive for an indifferent Albarino, a bit of Chablis, a few sips of good orange wine, a glug of Ok-ish Salento and a pleasant but predictable Royal Tokaji. Maybe the “New Price” hasn’t come with an accompanying “New Value.”

Fabulous...a gem of a Hotel in a stunning setting in a historic village untouched by modernisation. So many are often ruined by these planning baffoons but this takes you back to simpler times. The Hotel is an integrated part of the village and has that air about it as you traverse the walkways. Staff very good and the chef and his team in the restaurant well deserved of their Michelin star as the tasting menu was as good as any we have tried including the 3 Michelin star restaurants we have eaten in...look forward to revisiting again soon...just perfect.

My expectations were admittedly high but I left wishing I’d spent far less to eat far better. The servers and sommelier were lovely but we were also ignored for the first 35 minutes after we were sat - for context, they were quite busy but we’d also had this reservation for weeks so it felt like poor planning either way. Wine pairing was fantastic. Food was so beautiful but just ok flavor-wise, which I don’t say lightly. We left feeling both hungry and overall disappointed. For the record, we are staying at the hotel which is gorgeous and the staff are so lovely. So, we’ll certainly be back to stay but won’t eat dinner at the restaurant again.

The seven course taster menu, eight courses including the Chef’s amuse bouche, is understandably a hefty £110 a head and with drinks no change out of £300 for two. Honestly, and as a treat, worth every penny. We started with a couple of on-point cocktails in the sumptuous Gin bar, a perfect Lemon (cello) Sherbert and Amaretto Sour before we were guided through to the main event. The restaurant itself is a delight and easily copes with it’s well spaced out 50 to 60 covers. Staff to customer ratios are high and service was excellent. No expense has been spared on the décor which balances top end, fine dining with casual informality. No need for unnecessary clinical, razor ironed white linen, silly cloches and suppressed whispering; this place was full to the rafters with elegant ease creating a confident and convivial hub. Being a nosy git I was intrigued by the crockery (I know sad) but truthfully the most tactile and design triumph plates and bowls I have ever eaten off. Sourced by JL Coquet in Limoges, France, my mate Google informed that each piece was a mere £100 plus a piece. Little wonder the waiting staff were clinging on for dear life otherwise could be an expensive slip. I had the full monte (fish and meat) menu whilst the blonde had veggie options as she isn’t a fan of anything fishy. Each course was a Tate Gallery artistic joy and has us both bereft of superlatives which extended our wonderment and appreciation through to the “proof of the pudding” the taste. There’s no way I’m going to cover all eight courses but they all ranged from very good to excellent to out of this world. Suffice to say my stand outs were the Chalk stream trout with oyster, wasabi and roe; Peterhead Cod with coastal herbs and sea weed butter and Coconut with mango, passion fruit and kaffir lime. She particularly enjoyed the laminated (sic) Brioche with cultured butter and Kohlrabi, celeriac and Wiltshire truffle. Look the bottom line is that these dishes are not for the unadventurous nor the faint hearted and nor are they for anyone who places high perceived value on quantity. That’s why Britain has Harvesters and Wetherspoons. A couple of pre-dinner cocktails, two eight course taster meals, a bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio and a bottle of still water all came in at £333 including 12.5.% service.

The Manor House hotel restaurant is Michelin star restaurant serving excellent food in an unpretentious atmosphere. The food was artfully presented, but it was clear flavors were the priority. The seven course fixed price (£145 pp) dinner did not seem like to much food and was worth the price. It was the best good we had in our fifteen day Cotswolds journey.

The Bybrook Restaurant at the Manor was a must visit while we were holidaying in the area. There is nothing quite like the experience of a Michelin starred restaurant and the creations of the chef behind the menu. The Bybrook restaurant is a lovely setting and the room is light, airy and of course historically of great interest. The taster menu seems to be the order of the day for dinner service so we selected this for both of us. At £280 for two without wine, it was certainly not cheap, but as a Michelin starred meal was it worth it?....read on! The menu was super interesting and in some courses undersold on the paper description. The food was served exquisitely and the waiting staff were both knowledgeable and accommodating when it came to questions about the dish being served. It's always a real plus to have this background knowledge available when you want to enquire about the dish and everything about the service from all concerned was frankly impeccable. The food itself was all beautifully prepared and delivered. I was slightly disappointed with the lamb of the main course, while the meat was beautiful and cooked to perfection, it was the size of two first class stamps once the fat had been trimmed off (I choose not to eat even rendered fat for health reasons) - too small even for a main course of a taster menu. Otherwise the food was a real treat to enjoy and experience the creativity of an excellent chef, beginning to end. So - why not 5 stars? Three simple reasons... 1. The lamb on the main dish was just too small, it left a lot to be desired despite in and of itself being amazing. 2. All the courses were excellent but after seven courses we had to go out later that evening and buy some more food, it simply didn't fill us up. You might say "well it was a taster menu after all!" - we've had other taster menus and while each individual dish is small I've never felt anything other than full after the whole menu. 3. This is the big one for me...I was ill two days before and as this is a set taster menu run every evening we asked about cancelling and re-arranging expecting no issues. We were told that we could cancel but would be subject to the FULL cost of the menu as a cancellation fee - all £280 of it. Given the menu is the same day in, day out, this seemed to be an overly aggressive and inflexible cancellation policy/approach and one I haven't experienced anywhere else with this severity of impact and I am including Michelin starred restaurants here. I do not believe that two people moving their booking over 48 hours before it was scheduled could not be accommodated without impact. If the kitchen is being run on such tight tolerances that this cannot be accommodated for a very real reason for the clients, something is wrong! For that last reason alone, I would not book the Bybrook again. There are many completely valid reasons in this age of living with Covid alone that someone may not be able to attend 72-48 hours beforehand and charging the full amount as a cancellation fee feels frankly like curmudgeonly highway robbery. However good the food and service was, that % risk of losing that sum of money through no fault of your own does not on balance seem worth it and that is a real shame for the talented chef and front of house staff who otherwise delivered an excellent product and service.

We stayed at The Manor House for our wedding anniversary and had the tasting menu at Bybrooks one evening to celebrate. The service was excellent and it was busy so the atmosphere was good. Some of the courses were excellent, especially the crab, shame it was one mouthful! We were ok with the taster size (except the main) but if you have a big appetite it might be an issue! The reason for giving 4 stars not 5 are that a couple of the courses were very disappointing, the brioche was messy to eat and greasy and didn't add anything flavour wise. There were only 2 choices for the "main" lamb or beef and as I'd had a lovely steak at The Castle Inn the night before I didn't want red meat again! They offered me a mushroom risotto instead which was tasty but I could have had that anywhere! The most disappointing though was my husband's lamb dish which was tiny and not very tender or melt in the mouth like we felt it should have been! As it was a special occasion he didn't want to send it back and make a fuss. Overall we enjoyed the experience but left feeling a bit underwhelmed when we should have been saying wow that was amazing for the money we spent!

From delicate and perfectly cooked seafood to hearty and comforting meat dishes, each course is a revelation of flavor and texture. The dishes are beautifully presented and are accompanied by expertly chosen pairings that enhance and complement the flavors of each dish. Marius, the sommelier, has put together a truly exceptional selection of wines and other beverages that perfectly complement each course of the menu. From crisp and refreshing white wines to bold and complex reds, each wine is chosen to highlight and enhance the flavors of the dish it's paired with. The service throughout the meal is impeccable, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who are happy to answer any questions you may have about the dishes and pairings (a big thank you to Raluca as well for explaining in detail each dish). This is the second year running that we have visited The Manor and The Bybrook restaurant for a pre Christmas treat. We enjoyed our stay but the Bybrook did let itself down on two counts. Firstly, the tasting menu servings were way, way too small - Michelin starred or not. Also, to serve a brioche as a course - yes it was simply a brioche (4 of us checked and double checked) was not in the spirit of a course in any restaurant. We felt a tad disappointed and cheated. A shame as last years meal was 100% better. After a team talk at breakfast (very nice btw), we agreed to give next year a miss try elsewhere.

We had a 3 course menu for £ 75,00 p.p. The food was delicious, the service was great, wine was very good. We've eaten in various Michelin restaurants, but find this one a bit too standard and nothing exiting...no extra's in between the meal..That was for me the reason to call it expensive and also because of the iny weenie tiny portions..sorry guys..it's 2019. Even the starter was 1 scallop divided in two parts...altough it was very yummie. Maincourse was beef...think it was 50 grams and the bits to it were up to 'hobbit'-size.

Mi otra mitad y yo la comimos como parte de la cena bed and breakfast en Manor House. Nos sentamos a nuestra mesa en un suntuoso comedor que tenía la sensación de un salón de banquetes medieval.

Yes it is expensive staying at the Manor House Hotel and dining in the Bybrook restaurant, but if you get quality food cooked and presented superbly with knowledgeable staff, what more can you want. We chose the tasting menu and it lasted three hours yet it only seemed like one hour, such were the interesting dishes. Will come again, but it has to be a special occasion.

Stayed and eaten here many times. This visit was a uncomfortable experience. Arrived for our 13:15 Sunday lunch 20 mins early for a G&T; in the bar. Barman seemed a little put out to see us in his empty bar and rather disappointed that we had a reservation for lunch and would have to serve us. Had hoped to get our driver a sandwich while we had a drink but barman was obviously very put out at this request and only conceded after a meeting with the chef to see if the could manage a ham sandwich (for something like £11). We had £18 each G&T;’s while we were made to feel quite unwelcome and a nuisance. As we prepared to go into lunch a request to put our bill on our lunch bill was refused (why?) so we settled at bar and were charged an extra 12.5% (optional) tip on the bill. The charge didn’t correspond with the level of service or ambiance we had experienced.

I’ve reviewed the hotel separately. We had a dinner bed and breakfast package so eating here was included. This really made our visit special. Overwhelmingly my main comment is about the service. We were looked after really well in the restaurant. From Oli the Sommelier who was so friendly to Katrina and Melissa who always stopped for a short chat even when busy this friendly approach really made a great impression. Good food is important but service is our first requirement and we would always go back for service. The food was excellent- we had the tasting menu, a la carte but more impressively the chef chose our menu on our last night. Thank you. For me the best course was the halibut. It was cooked to perfection- soft and delicate and the sea vegetables were an excellent accompaniment. We enjoyed the slowness of the evening- no rush and it meant we could enjoy our wine. I hate a rushed meal. If you want rapid fire eating this is not the place to come! Again I have only one observation. For a Michelin starred restaurant I thought the wine list was a little short. I love Burgundy but the list is restricting. Notwithstanding that we had a great time. Thank You.

On perusing the menu we possibly should have expected a less impressive experience than the last time we were here, and it did turn out to be more of a safe hotel-style dinner in manner of the cooking and presentation, as well as the speed at which the courses followed one another, and the level of the front of house was not top notch. This is not to say that there weren’t some good elements, but in general we found it not exactly progressive and our overall rating was nothing like as high as before. We enjoyed the canapés, and the first course of wafer-thin and very fresh beetroot with crab and horseradish would have been better without the strange touch of lavender. The classical duck liver parfait in combination with nuts, grapes and walnut bread was pleasing, and this was followed by an uneven dish of good halibut with sea vegetables that were possibly too strong for the fish and some lovely mussels that were under-seasoned for our taste. The lamb main course was the best of the evening, the loin very tender with the proper taste and texture and enhanced with a clever touch of mint gel cubes instead of the standard sauce, the Roscoff onion was perfectly caramelised to take away any aggressiveness, and the interesting belly mince added another element. The appearance of a traditional cheese course with no choice was slightly passé, but at least it was an Alex James blue with good lavoche crackers. Opinions were divided on the passion fruit/mango palate cleanser in which the announced coconut ice had got lost. Our dessert made up for this, though, the Amalfi lemon tart with perfect tartness was as good as any we’ve had and the lovely sweet raspberries added to the enjoyment. Since the by-the-glass choice was limited we went for the wine flight, which was well selected and came at a reasonable price. Altogether a reasonable meal, although not up to the standard we had hoped for.

We were recommended this hotel by a friend, and so glad we booked. It’s in a little idyllic Cotswold village, has a such a beautiful quaint look and feel to it. As the restaurant is highly rated we decided to book a table for our anniversary meal. We had drinks in the bar beforehand and were then shown to our table. We were first seated as it opened, by the windows of the grand dining room, the table settings were very spacious and well designed. The tables are large which is also nice rather then feeling like there’s not enough space.

Ate at the restaurant ten years ago and we recall that we had an excellent meal but age has removed the content of the meal on that occasion but it didn't matter as we had another brilliant meal this time. We have eaten at Michelin restaurants many times but here we were faced with a dilemma, there were so many dishes that whet our appetite and what we had was excellent, not over elaborate as with some restaurants but beautifully cooked and so tasty.

We have been to the Bybrook three times in the last four years and I have to say it’s always a huge treat the building is incredible even the drive up from the entry gate is a pleasure – Ample onsite parking and then a small walk to the main building. We have always had a drink prior to eating in the small cosy bar gin and tonics are always great, your waiter will then come in and tell you your table is ready.

is not something we do very often - our last one was The Ritz in London a couple of years or so ago and before that Simpsons in the Strand, so I suppose we set the bar for a traditional one quite high. I went for the Beef option and my wife the vegetarian (we have a hotel and restaurant and are trying to extend the veggie options). Both choices met the criteria of attractive food, well cooked and tasty as well as reasonable value. Not over-elaborate wine list with enough choice by the glass (I was driving so drank the local water) to satisfy most tastes, although I found the absence of a traditional (unoaked) French Chardonnay puzzling. Never mind, she had two glasses of a Provencal rose instead. We were running late (traffic on and generated by the M4, which we were told is a perennial problem so factor this in perhaps) but had phoned and were told not to worry which was comforting. The service and servers was formal but friendly - we would cheerfully have employed any of the staff ourselves. I remembered the dining room from over 20 years ago when my sister had her wedding and reception there. It did not seem to have changed and is still a slightly austere space but comfortable enough. We enjoyed the meal and would go again, the last being a sentiment that we do not often express....

Altamente recomendado

An elegant restaurant located within the Manor House hotel, I would imagine that the majority of diners here are hotel residents, although I’m sure it is also open to non-residents. It’s a nice room with leaded windows at one end overlooking the gardens, although it could definitely have done with being a couple of degrees warmer when we visited, and we noticed that one of the other tables asked to move as they were feeling a bit of a chill so it wasn’t just us.
