A nice place in a nice location. Food was fine, only issue is, I I am not a fan of oven chips, but they are acceptable. However we will not return, because The Carriers is not atall disabled friendly. The area outside the building is very unfriendly for mobility issues and wheelchairs, with no attempt to try and make matters easier for those that have disability issues. There is no specific disabled parking. There is no disabled toilet, and the cubicles are so restricted you have to straddle the toilet bowl to get in and shut the door. However, ther are some people who cannot shut the door, my wife had to leave the toilet door open to get in and use the toilet, how bad is that. My wife did offer a comment at the time suggesting if the doors opened outwards that could help towards curing part of the problem, but the manager( we assume the manager) seemed quite uninterested. We are unable to recommend the Carriers for anybody with disability issues. February 10th 2025 12 30pm

Couples holiday and we stayed close by, visited The Carriers Inn after our walk. It was really busy (Wednesday afternoon) but we were served quickly and all staff were friendly and hard at work. Very dog friendly and even has a doggie menu. We both ordered fish and chips which was excellent and our dog loved his dinner too. Really pleased we called in here and would return if we were in the area again.

We went to celebrate my daughter’s 40th birthday, we did not want to ruin her birthday otherwise we would have walked out. There were 14 of us booked for 4pm, apparently the food was finishing at 5.30 which we were not told on booking so when we got there there were no roast dinners left, no fish and chips and no hot dogs. As soon as we said we’d booked a week ago and expressed surprise there were no roast dinners the waitress sent the manager over. She was extremely rude and had a take it or leave it attitude, I would go as far as to say she was confrontational. After that it seemed that all of the staff were surly, standoffish and seemed to just be waiting for us to leave. It’s a shame because it used to be a lovely restaurant but we found it unfriendly with very average food. I would not recommend going there. Also I emailed them to express my disappointment and they didn’t bother to reply which to me shows how ignorant the management are and have such a ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude. I asked them to forward my email to the area manager but it seems they didn’t do that either as I have not heard from them.

Booked for granddaughters birthday arrived at 5 and was informed that there were a few items on menu that they had run out of. My daughter and I then ordered the steak which when it arrived was smaller then a 5 years old portion and for nearly £17 was a joke. Will not be returning.

Well, things ain't like theu used to be, now part of the Marstons pub chain .so. standard food menu. I had chicken tika masala, which was very good, hot and tasty, I really enjoyed it, the others had the Sunday roast. Beef or lamb. Beef good ,lamb ok Well not as good as other establishments but hot and quite edible. Ivy had the doggie Sunday dinner, cleaned her bowl lol. Bit sad to see such a well established Inn only 40 -50 % full. Is that a sign of the times with diners £ or voting with their feet. Yes we would go back to eat but not Sunday lunch. lovely friendly staff, sensible prices for food and drink, dog friendly and very clean including toilets, sadly 1 oven was not working so a lot of menu not available and the list of those not available was presented with the main menu. Quite a short wait for food , so it arrived hot and fresh. I would genuinely suggest go and try it for yourself, it won't disappoint but does slightly lack the wow factor . Dog friendly and large car park and conservatory overlooking the lake.

Went for family Sunday lunch. Good atmosphere on arriving, and welcoming from the front of house staff. As the table was not quite ready we sat on bar area table and got a drink from the bar. When table ready shown and seated, handed menu and told what the roast of the roast of the day, soup of the day. Plus a couple of items off the menu. 3 of the party chose Sunday roast, 1 being roast of the day (pork0 1 selecting beef and 1 having the mix of lamb and beef. Final person ordered gammon steak. Food arrived and presented very well. Large amount of meat on the roasts; laid over mash, roast potatoes and gravy. All meats cooked correctly, very easy to cut. Seasonal veg came in separate serving dishes with additional gravy boats. Large gammon steak cooked to perfection with both pineapple ring and fried egg and comes with plenty of chunky chips and peas. Good desert menu selection, only one able to manage a desert. Ordered the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, extremely good, large portion and plenty of chocolate sauce. Surprised how reasonably priced the menu is for the portions and quality, was expecting to be more expensive. Have experienced other places from the same brewery that offer lower quality produce to similar or more expensive costs. I would recommend to anyone that likes a properly cooked Sunday roast. Good bar area providing variety of drink options, plenty of outside seating, both covered and uncovered with good views over the Mere.

I took my family to the Carriers for dinner on Monday while they were up visiting - 11 of us in total. With the two for one deals available on a Monday and little kids eating for £1, it seemed reasonable, especially compared to the idea of cooking for that many people in my own home. We all had the pub classics on the 2 for 1 menu, and had no complaints. Is the food fine dining? Well, no, its more standard pub fare vs innovative cuisine. Nor is the menu full of things that I can't cook myself at home. However, it did meet all our needs and portion size was good. This location is full of visiting tourists and walkers with not so many houses within walking distance and I think the pub caters well for the types of clients that provide passing trade. What I like about the Carriers is the warm welcome we always receive. Leigh and Jo were friendly and attentive and that goes a long way these days. If there was a decent craft ale on tap I'd be even more keen to come back more often, maybe over the busier summer months I might be lucky!

I was very disappointed in the food served to us last night for my son's birthday. I had pre booked and had to change the reservation time due to family members were running late. I received an abrupt call from a member a staff advising we needed to hurry up as they stop serving. We were 10 mins late due to heavy traffic. When we arrived we was rushed to our table and asked for our food orders. The meals was very average and I felt over over priced, particular the ham and chips and eggs. This meal could be improved with garden peas and pineapple if gammon is option. Thankfully my son's meal looked restaurant standard and he enjoyed it. Sadly the rest of the party felt it was over priced for what it was.

Booked a table for Saturday lunchtime after a recent visit to Wild Shores, the pub looks great Inside and out and has a large outside area, which is lovely, the staff were all friendly and welcoming, The Menu looked ok and what you would expect at a pub, I understand prices have increased and business' have had to increase their prices but the food quality needs to justify the price. I didnt choose the cheesy garlic bread from the starter section as it was priced at £7.95 !! Surely this needs to be looked into, I have never been anywhere where garlic bread is at such an extreme level. We ordered some chicken tenders and some of the topped fries, the food was ok, but you can tell that the food is of a cheap standard, the fries themselves were really poor quality, for the price they need to be improved, the chicken tenders were nice but minimal, the presentation of the food needs to be improved. I understand that anything related to the food will be a company decision so I dont expect anyone in house has a say in these decisions so this review isn't really against the pub itself. My brother did have a burger which he enjoyed.

Unwelcoming environment with too many members of staff of which only few show some -little, interest in us (customers). When we arrived, nobody smiled, nobody was even bothered to say hi, or say something like "welcome to our restaurant"..nothing. After few seconds we've only been told that all the empty tables near windows are not available. Very strange, because the restaurant was 95% empty and let me tell you, there were many of them. We've been asked to sit in the worst possible table in the middle of central communication behind the wooden wall. Instead of this humiliating option, we decided to go outside. It's shocking that in a restaurant, where anywhere else in Europe there would be no more than 2-3 waiters(in busy part of the day), here was at least 6. And what is more shocking, that even when they had obviously nothing to do, they chose to stay talking near the bar and let customers ask for the menu and then again ask for food choices. Paying in the middle of a restaurant near stairs leading to the toilets looks also very unprofessional. Should be at the table, so customers could sit all the time to enjoy their experience. We arrived hungry but happy to have an amazing dinner after 20 miles of walking, but we left annoyed with very mixed emotions.. And something about food, well... Sunday roast was plain without seasoning, very basic, but at least healthy. Chicken skin could be little bit crunchier and it's a shame that we got disgusting (probably granulated) artificial sauce (they call it gravy). This should be natural sauce cooked from chicken. The portion was enough and I didn't feel uncomfortably full. Later during the dinner two girls came to our table to ask, if everything was alright and finally somebody smiled at us! What a pleasant surprise! This little attention gives you one more star. Coffee was just black water. Sunday roast costs around 16-18£. Prices are slightly higher. The inside and outside area desperately needs skilled designer to look more attractive, cleaner, better organised and more modern. I use a more merciful rating system in the UK, so I'm giving you 3 stars.

We didn't get to sit out in the beer garden, but i would imagine on a nice day it would be wonderful. Only scored a 4 for the food, purely because for the price of a jacket potatoe we would of like the pototoe a little bigger and a bigger side salad would of been nice. Came with a party of 4, staying at Forest Holidays. As hours enjoyable walk with the idea of a quick drink. 2 hours later, drinks AND food and we can happily say we’ve enjoyed every second. The service was great, helpful and accommodating. The food was great, didn’t take too long, hot and each meal was cooked exactly how we liked. Enjoyed that much we’re coming back for the pub quiz tomorrow. A business that deserves the feedback, and our money. Thanks guys!

The environment was nicely decorated and the service was friendly but the quality of the food was varied. 3 out of the 4 of us ordered fish. Only 1 of the fish was nice, the other 2 were over fried which really affected the quality. The 4th person ordered madras flavoured shepherds pie which was ok but not spectacular. The way it was presented was good and the flavour of the little side pots of curry sauce and mushy peas was lovely but they were very small. The price was high so overall we expected more.

Lovely cafe with fabulous selection of cakes. Right on the high street of a quaint village, just minutes off the motorway. Plenty of car parking within walking distance. Well worth stopping on your journey.

Avoid this place. The food is all packaged, lacking any freshness or effort. The manager is outright rude, making the experience even worse. Easily the worst café in Hoole—don’t waste your time or money.

If you’re looking for an authentic Italian dining experience without leaving the UK, look no further than La Bella Chime - a true gem in the village. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported straight to Italy, thanks to the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the exceptional service from Angelo and his team. The food is simply outstanding. The Seafood Risotto is bursting with fresh flavours, while the Rigatoni al Salmone is rich, creamy, and utterly delicious. And if you have room for dessert, the Tiramisu is hands down the best I have ever eaten—light, indulgent, and the perfect way to finish the meal. Chef Giulio is an absolute master of his craft, creating dishes that are as authentic as they are delicious. Between us, we’ve tried most of the menu, and every dish has been exceptional. From the food to the service, La Bella Chime is a restaurant that truly captures the essence of Italy. If you love great food, warm hospitality, and an authentic Italian atmosphere, this place is an absolute must-visit!
