The venue and staff were lovely it was let down by the quality of the food. We pre booked the Christmas menu but unlike other tables that had Christmas crackers and trimmings we had none. The food which was in effect a roast, half a carrot, three sprouts three roast potatoes, a spoonful of red cabbage and meat was over priced. The chocolate orange dessert was very boring and the after meal coffees luke warm. The evening was saved by the company we went with.

Came here for a family meal to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday... what a fantastic place, a really old fashioned, cosy, welcoming pub, where the emphasis is on making sure the customer is happy. I can't recommend this place enough, the staff are extremely helpful, the food is first class and the atmosphere was amazing... thank you all for making helping my wife's 60th an evening to remember 👍👏

Terrible lighting in the Carpenters Arms, we asked them to turn off or dim the lights, but nooo. We asked to move, but nooo. Although there was empty tables for about an hour. Food was fine, although lit like an operating theatre. You have to book on line, so no way you can specify ‘not the flood lit tables please’.

The Carpenters arms is a good setting for small group parties. It was warm and comfortable with a large dining table and comfy chairs for before or after the meal. Service was as expected. However the food was mediocre, with scant vegetables, not cooked well and was expensive.

A warm and welcoming pub with friendly staff, great food, really good atmosphere, and it's one of those rare and brilliant pubs that serves food on a Sunday night - including their Sunday roast! Will be returning here many more times. (We only used the pub, not the accommodation, but Google wouldn't allow me to post the review unless I scored the accommodation, so I went for a 4* score and rated the accommodation "quiet" in the hopes that I won't majorly skew the scorings either way. This is a bit of a flawed ratings system, Google!)

The service was truly great. Serval waitresses checked we were okay a number of times. Visited Sunday to meet a friend. Only downside they had no lamb and the potato's were frozen. Given that the gravey was very tasteful and the beef cooked well. If in the area again I would book to visit

When I arrived, the welcome was so warm and made me feel at home. The room was lovely and just what I needed. Dinner was lovely (I had roast lamb - Sunday roast was great). Breakfast was excellent. The staff is excellent. I want to mention Michael particularly as he offered me a lift to my venue on Monday morning when I was struggling to get a taxi. This was much appreciated and a great example of going above and beyond. The Carpenters Arms is an old fashioned style of place to stay. It has so much character and much more to my preference than some sterile hotels.

A short distance off the A 37 just north of Chew reservoir, the Carpenter's Arms was a real find. We stopped off on the way home to avoid the busy Bristol Friday evening traffic and struck lucky. It was busy and we hadn't booked but they fitted us in. The bar and serving staff were efficient and friendly. Lots of outside tables - glass topped with comfortable seats and sun umbrellas and cosy inside. Butcombe beer on tap with a good selection of ciders and wines. The menu was short but interesting and gave a good choice. We were not disappointed. The Pulled Lamb and Asian Salad was excellent and the fish and gold, crisp chunky chips with generous portions of tartare sauce and mushy peas. The children's meal was one of the best. You can't really go wrong with chips and beans but the fish fingers were excellent - real fish and chunky. We will definitely return.

Ordered the pie which was meat gravy in a dish with pie on top, no check in and we barely ate it … we actually asked for a doggy bag for the dogs and didn’t ask why we didn’t eat it either. Loads of meat but dry ! Problem when you microwave beef. At £17 a pop this is our second time here last time we had roasts again not overly enthralled thought we’d try again. We did say the first time it was the staff who seemed to let the place down as they just aren’t the warm. The lady was polite enough this time but we saw the I assume male owner allow a worker to come in and use the toilet only to slag him off as cheeky the second after he so graciously let him in. 2 faced. No thanks The food isn’t worth the price but the pub is def beautiful and one for summer drinks but for the service and lack of check in or even bother to know why we left our food is absolutely shocking.

We stayed here for a week whilst visiting Bath. The room was a very good size, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The room was serviced every day. We hadn't booked with breakfast or evening meals, however, the food was so good we ate here every breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was a very good size with 2 courses, tea or coffee, fresh orange juice and plenty of toast. There was a good choice for dinner and again the portion sizes were good. We ate most things on the menu and they were all delicious. The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They made our stay a real pleasure. The atmosphere in the bar was lovely too, we enjoyed relaxing in the evening with a nice glass of brandy. The drive into Bath was a pleasant 15 minutes, then we used the park and ride, which work well for us. There are plenty of other places to visit a short drive from the pub. We visited both Cheddar gorge and Wells, both of which were stunning. We would highly recommend staying here and hope we get the opportunity to stay again.

Two lots of Fish and Chips among the order (the simplest dish to make) however half the chips were inedible (undercooked). The rest of the food was good, but the overall experience was not good. Mains included shredded lamb, fish and chips and two sea bass followed by chocolate pots and creme brûlée. Mains were interesting - sea bass for example served with spicy noodles, shredded lamb with a Thai style salad. Drinks were reasonably priced, staff were friendly and efficient and no service charge added to the bill. We were happy to leave a tip. This place has a large car park. We needed an early evening pub meal on the way to Bristol airport and this was a great choice. If we lived nearer we'd definitely go again. The interior decor is very traditional old style country pub but without being tacky or twee. It felt very cosy. We just had a main course each but everyone was happy with the quality and quantity of food. Generous crispy fish and chips and plenty of crushed peas. Ham egg and chips was also apparently a good choice, and my own meal of chicken breast with mushrooms and bacon was delicious, also served with a good helping of veg. Service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. Loos were clean. It was a good traditional pub menu with plenty of choice and in a very pleasant setting.

Went for a family meal but could only get a late afternoon table which showed in the food. The pork was only bearable because of the gravy rehydrating it & the potatoes hadn't been alowed to crisp more boiled probably because they had to make more due to the time of day. Felt like we where put in the overspill room which had no atmosphere when during the phone booking was specifically asked to be in bar or restaurant. One of the more expensive Sunday lunches - quality would of been better at the begining of service, was a shame as was looking forward to the one day off from cooking.

We stayed here for two nights in rooms 5 and 8 and also had breakfast and dinner. I am very fussy about the size of bed in the room, nothing was too much trouble, each e-mail I wrote prior to our stay assured they could meet our needs - they went well beyond this by offering us a choice of two rooms when we got there. This was how our stay started and this excellent customer service carried on throughout. If you are gluten free (gluten free fish and chips made with cider batter) or vegan your needs will be well catered for. I even asked for something not on the Sunday Roast menu, but again it was no problem. All members of staff were kind, courteous and well trained. Prices are fair and in some cases lower than usual, for example a large 250ml glass of wine for 6.90 - where can you get that these days. All areas of the pub and the bedroom area and corridors were so clean and they do little things to enhance the stay. For example the real fire is lit early so the place is warm and welcoming, and in the corridor where the bedrooms are they open a velux window to get fresh air circulating through so when you roll out of bed to go down for breakfast you breathe in lovely fresh air. When you get to breakfast they have a chef who can cook perfect poached eggs every time - not that that is the only thing on the menu but gives you an idea of their skills as this is actually quite a difficult thing to get right with consistency. If you want a little bit of luxury but at the same time feeling like you are at home amongst friends then this is the place for you. Finally one other little thing of note - the linen cupboard had been left open as bedrooms were being changed as we wandered by - I have never seen such a clean and well ordered linen cupboard, even with the bits that the customers don't see they care very much and whoever does the cleaning and bed changing is an absolute gem. Thank you to all of the staff for making our stay so enjoyable - we salute you.

This place is a real gem, slightly off the beaten track but kind of diagonally opposite the Jane Austen museum. The coffee is so smooth and tasty, lots of varieties to choose from and the owner/staff are serious coffee buffs. Highly recommend.

We booked for dinner online. When we arrived, the staff had no idea about a booking and we were told they weren't serving dinner. Switch off your booking times if you don't serve food at that time. We had to ring around several pubs - all fully booked - before we found somewhere that would serve us if we took less than an hour. We had to get a taxi to that location. And evening dinner ruined, basically. All of which could have been avoided if the restaurant booking system actually reflected the food serving times.

Very nice and pleasant place for lunch to meet up with family and friends. Big menu but food is very good. Good size carpark.
