The Carpenters Arms in Bath and North East Somerset

We’ve been meeting here as a group for years & we’ve always had an excellent meal. Our most recent meal was delicious - so credit where credit is due! The service is always good & it’s definitely our ‘go to’!

The 'specials' were obviously reheated meats from Sunday lunch, my Lamb 'special' was so tough it was completely inedible. So beware a 'special' on a Monday. To be fair my wife's lunch off the usual lunch menu was very good.

Lovely pub and food, but portions are massive, so if you are not a big eater, share a main.

Lovely pub on the edge of the Mendips. Loads of parking. Good ales. Good service and decent pub grub. We had Sunday roasts and they were all great.

We went to the Carpenters Arms for food and were not disappointed at all. The food we had was incredible and the service was extremely friendly. One of the best pub meals we've had

Lovely meal in lovely surroundings

This was the most delightful find!! Almost the whole menu is gluten free - including the cider battered fish and chips and crumble! I even came back another night for a meal while in the area. Such a joy to find a lovely, cosy country pub where I could eat most of the menu.

We needed an early evening pub meal on the way to Bristol airport and this was a great choice. If we lived nearer we'd definitely go again. The interior decor is very traditional old style country pub but without being tacky or twee. It felt very cosy. We just had a main course each but everyone was happy with the quality and quantity of food. Generous crispy fish and chips and plenty of crushed peas. Ham egg and chips was also apparently a good choice, and my own meal of chicken breast with mushrooms and bacon was delicious, also served with a good helping of veg. Service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. Loos were clean. It was a good traditional pub menu with plenty of choice and in a very pleasant setting.

One of the best roast dinners I’ve had! Friendly service and such a proper english pub feel.

Went for a family meal but could only get a late afternoon table which showed in the food. The pork was only bearable because of the gravy rehydrating it & the potatoes hadn't been alowed to crisp more boiled probably because they had to make more due to the time of day. Felt like we where put in the overspill room which had no atmosphere when during the phone booking was specifically asked to be in bar or restaurant. One of the more expensive Sunday lunches - quality would of been better at the begining of service, was a shame as was looking forward to the one day off from cooking.

A really cosy pub with great food, and clearly very popular for socialising and drinking on a friday night. Had a really nice time and would definitely go back again. Big plus is the open fire and sofas!

Lovely Pub nice food and drink great service.

We stayed here for two nights in rooms 5 and 8 and also had breakfast and dinner. I am very fussy about the size of bed in the room, nothing was too much trouble, each e-mail I wrote prior to our stay assured they could meet our needs - they went well beyond this by offering us a choice of two rooms when we got there. This was how our stay started and this excellent customer service carried on throughout. If you are gluten free (gluten free fish and chips made with cider batter) or vegan your needs will be well catered for. I even asked for something not on the Sunday Roast menu, but again it was no problem. All members of staff were kind, courteous and well trained. Prices are fair and in some cases lower than usual, for example a large 250ml glass of wine for 6.90 - where can you get that these days. All areas of the pub and the bedroom area and corridors were so clean and they do little things to enhance the stay. For example the real fire is lit early so the place is warm and welcoming, and in the corridor where the bedrooms are they open a velux window to get fresh air circulating through so when you roll out of bed to go down for breakfast you breathe in lovely fresh air. When you get to breakfast they have a chef who can cook perfect poached eggs every time - not that that is the only thing on the menu but gives you an idea of their skills as this is actually quite a difficult thing to get right with consistency. If you want a little bit of luxury but at the same time feeling like you are at home amongst friends then this is the place for you. Finally one other little thing of note - the linen cupboard had been left open as bedrooms were being changed as we wandered by - I have never seen such a clean and well ordered linen cupboard, even with the bits that the customers don't see they care very much and whoever does the cleaning and bed changing is an absolute gem. Thank you to all of the staff for making our stay so enjoyable - we salute you.

Caught up with friends here for lunch. A warm welcome from the Staff, and a beautiful fire. Old fashioned pub..in a nice way, amazing display of drinks. Menu very impressive, you can never have too many Christmas Turkey Lunches. Our friends enjoyed their very large meals. Only one dissapointment, was Roast Potatoes weren't brown and crispy. Braised Brisket was excellent, and Red Wine Sauce was lovely. Pie in a dish was piping hot, as were all or meals. No room for puddings!

We really enjoyed our recent stay in the Carpenters Arms. The rooms are kept to a very good standard. There's nice touches like posh shower gel and expensive towels. The views from the bedrooms are of the pretty countryside. The Restaurant at the pub serves high quality food. The breakfast is also very impressive. The Staff working behind the bar are very welcoming and make you feel at home. All in all a very nice stay

Excellent service from friendly staff. Stayed here for a local wedding. Great rooms, clean and tidy. Very comfy bed! Would recommend this place. So peaceful and quiet.

My brother, sister and I had three nights here very recently. We had a room each and had the bed and breakfast and dinner package which was a good option. All the rooms were lovely: clean, comfortable and quiet, with everything you need. The pub had a lovely atmosphere and staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was particularly nice. The evening meals were very good, too, although not quite as good a standard as the breakfast. We really enjoyed staying here and would heartily recommend the pub to others for meals and for a stay.

We stayed here for two nights, eating here for dinner on the first evening. Nice rooms, nice and clean and had everything you need. Dinner and breakfasts were both delicious.

Great place to meet and eat but the menu needs a change as it’s been the same for years, the food is good though and a lovely atmosphere dog friendly. We don’t really eat here much anymore as we are bored of the menu.

Visited last night ( Saturday), with friends that live locally. Beautiful building decor and ambiance. Friendly staff and amazing food. Prices have gone up everywhere however the mains in particular are good value for money, substantial and Delicious. Definitely would recommend this eatery.

I stayed her on 1 July 23 after attending my cousin's hand fasting ceremony in the stone circle and wedding celebration. Absolutely gorgeous room. I was in number 10. Beautifully & tastefully decorated, immaculately clean with everything you could need. Highly recommended. Didn't have breakfast as I had prebooked two course Sunday lunch - which was delicious. Staff were all helpful and positive.

Beautiful British country pub! Great staff, always helpful, food takes a while to come out but is normally worth it. Although the Sunday roasts taste reheated and very disappointing potatoes!

When you have been enjoying the spectacular views of the North Somerset wilds and exhilarating in the opportunity to walk with a group of companionable individuals for a number of hours, a venue offering sustenance in comfortable surroundings becomes particularly attractive. And that is what we got with The Carpenters Arms. Pleasant friendly staff and a comprehensive menu mixed with a variety of beers was, for us, just what the doctor ordered. All in all, a good day out! After a long walk we stopped at the Carpenters Arms as we booked a table for Sunday lunch. It was a beautiful sunny day lovely quiet location. The reception was friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and plentiful and the service was excellent. We will definitely come back.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay recently. The rooms are very good, the staff are excellent and meals were delicious. We stayed for 2 nights and found the rooms comfortable and clean. We ate breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, both of which lived up to expectations from previous visits. Highly recommended!

Good food Good service friendly staff

I had a lovely stay at the carpenters arms. Lush food and friendly service. My room was comfy with everything I needed. They also provide fresh milk which is always a bonus for me. It would have been fab if I could have logged into my netflix on the in-room tv!

so sorry carpenters arms, used to be the absolute best place for a roast but unfortunately it all tasted stale and and gravy was very watery. such a shame, service was excellent though as usual.

Been here a few times and never been disappointed. Came tonight as it's my birthday + Wedding anniversary. Food was delicious (compliments to the kitchen staff) the service was excellent and quick. Would definitely recommend

Really enjoyed my stay. Staff were excellent. Breakfast and evening meal tasty and fresh ingredients used. Bed was comfortable and room very clean. Only loosing 1 star due to the very squeaky floor in room 6. Feeling guilty at this as it is a very old building with oodles of charm and beautiful spring flower baskets outside but perhaps some screws in the floorboard might help.

Popped in on the off chance we could bring the dog in, we were made welcome in the dog area of the bar, which is a very nice snug like room. We both had the pie and it was delicious. Lovely quaint pub, great good...

Initially we went for a roast dinner hoping for the best but it's absolutely spot on, amazing taste, good value, good staff, all round very good experience have been 4 times in 6 weeks

Nov21 just had a wonderful stay at The Carpenters Arms. A stunning building, delicious cuisine, wonderfully clean, extremely pleasant and professional staff. We cant recommend enough.

Nice pub with outdoor seating and a big car park. Very nice lunch, averagely priced, and nicely served. It's a lovely area, and a public footpath crosses the car park.

Just returned home from a 3night stay at the Carpenter Arms. As always such a great time with the staff so pleasant and friendly. Lovely clean rooms with little extra touches. Brilliant food (too much!). Have been coming here for 13years and always enjoy the experience. Love it and highly recommend it .

We found the Carpenters Arms on the internet and arrived without a booking. They were able to fit us in. The pub is beautiful: old world charm, plenty of parking and countryside views. The service and food was excellent. Would highly recommend.

We are so lucky to live relatively close to the carpenters arms and we visit on a fairly regular basis. The food, drink and atmosphere are fantastic. You always get greeted with a smile and nothing is ever too much trouble even in these strange time’s.A huge thank you to the team for making our anniversary meal special. Being fortunate enough to live local to the wonderful Carpenters Arms i have ate here on several occasions , most recently during the government discount and amid Covid restrictions.The whole pub and restaurant are spotless and the staff very well presented, there is no overcrowding that i have experienced elsewhere, the food was amazing and suited our varied dietary .requirements.Well done, keep doing it the right way.

We returned to the carpenters arms for the first time since lock down and were not disappointed. Being apprehensive about going out, we were put at ease with a warm happy welcome (I think her name was Meg) we were also so happy to see the spaces tables, relaxed atmosphere and general good hygiene. We could see the bar area from where we were and saw the staff spraying down everything! The food was as good as ever, I think the burger has got even better! My wife had the curry which she adored and our friend has the fish and chips, as big and satisfying as ever!I'd definitely book because I saw staff turning people away at the door! Other places I'm sure would be trying to cram everyone in but not the carps! We will be back soon!

Visited 17th August lunch time anniversary meal. As normal the staff were extremely polite and welcoming. They gave overview of Covid19 guidelines for our safety and the one way system etc but strangely none of the waiters were wearing masks or gloves.The table was sticky and not clean which was surprising.My food a vegan roast pepper salad was fine but my wife’s monkfish with prawns on noodles curry was very disappointing. The noodles over cooked and the curry diluted likely from where the noodles had not been drained properly.Unfortunately when we got home my wife became sick with food poisoning and this continued for 3 days.This place is normally excellent but our experience this time and hygiene for tables and food was extremely disappointing. Staff lovely .... but we will not go again until things improve with Covid19 and they get their act together

Fantastic effort by the Carpenter’s Arms to create such a comfortable and welcoming pub in these difficult times. Our group of eight had an excellent lunch outside on suitably spaced tables on a lovely terrace at the side of the pub. The service was very friendly and attentive - we will definitely return.

Consistently high standards of service. The food tastes delicious, prepared fresh and served to your table with care. An excellent dinning experience.Choice of real ales and a varied wine list. The bar is well run and can be busy bit it's always friendly. I keep coming back.

We brought over 30 people that were staying nearby from out of town for our wedding for Sunday lunch at the Carpenters Arms. We cannot praise them highly enough for the service and food they delivered to us and our guests. We chose them because, when my husband and I started dating, he lived down the road and this was our favourite place to go for a date. We were slightly worried the number of us, and the various dietary requirements may affect the experience, but they handled everything flawlessly. From being patient with us providing our complex food orders to being flexible with the way that everyone paid the bill, we cannot fault a single thing.Everyone left feeling full and happier than ever. It was the perfect way to round off our wedding weekend.

We were relieved to walk in and be offered a table here after being turned away and redirected here from another pub. The staff were friendly and fun and there was a good ambience. We had the bread selection to start which were lovely and fresh. Two of us had the absolutely delicious beef & ale pie with lovely whole button mushrooms and a buttery mash. The chicken curry had a sweet potato curry had a nice kick to it and was very tasty, great crunchy popadoms too! Would definitely recommend stopping by for a meal here, we really enjoyed our meal!
