Just had a meal with family. Food was very nice,hot and plenty of it. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The table we sat at was near the bar,unfortunately there were a few people that were at the bar and were very over bearing. Staff were really accomodating and moved us to a quieter area before our food arrived. Great service,thankyou

Lovely greetings from the staff..the food was delicious. And very generous portions.i chose chicken in an stilton sauce with mushroom and ham topping..my husband had steak box.. tender meat.lots of veg..we thoroughly enjoyed the meal..we will deffo go back.

A lovely old country pub with friendly staff and excellent food. A group of four friends enjoyed an early evening supper at The Stag. The staff (and, in particular, the chef!) were incredibly friendly and helpful, to the extent that they adapted their very varied menu for our 'special requests'! All four meals (mid-price range) were excellent, and we certainly weren't 'hurried' from our table. Well done! ...to all staff at The Stag.

We've had several fantastic Sunday lunches and great takeaways too. Friendly staff and well kept beer. Highly recommended.

This is a really lovely traditional village pub, with staff who are very friendly and welcoming. The food is wonderful, homely and cosy - we’ve enjoyed their Sunday roasts and classic dishes from their regular menu like the peppered steak in puff pastry; the beef burger; and the ham, egg and chips. The food is hearty and generously portioned, and they always make a good effort with the whole dish - like the side salad being really decent, colourful and fresh, rather than a sad handful of lettuce! The main bar and snug are a bit cosier and have more atmosphere than the larger newer dining area, but it’s always popular and busy with a lovely buzzy atmosphere throughout whenever we have visited. If you want to eat here, I recommend booking as it’s (quite rightly) a very popular spot.

This spot I would not recommend for a Sunday Lunch. We went as a group expecting good food and service but honestly got neither. It was busy I will admit and Staff tried but the layout did not cater for a busy Sunday Lunch.

For a tiny village, a nice and very friendly pub. Watched some football, listened to staff and visitors sing along some classic tunes, truly enjoyable!

A large group of us arrived for a late lunch with no booking. Service was great, and speedy. Food was yummy, good value for money and a large selection. Decent portion sizes, all cooked well. We hadn't visited before and were pleasantly surprised!

Lovely Sunday Lunch but must say too much. Most people took away with them doggy or pet boxes . Only gripe from us was that the table was barely big enough to accommodate all the dishes . And we were not asked how we would like our meat cooked . My beef was rare ! Which is not my palate and no steak knife. But in fairness to the Stag. It was so busy that they were probably overwhelmed . All said and done we will go back 😊

Served by a friendly member of staff. The "acting proprietor" however felt it necessary to snub me and my group for our "dirty footwear" making us feel very unwelcome. No need to visit again, plenty of better pubs in the area

Invited out today for Sunday lunch. Have driven past this place hundreds of times over the years, but first time calling in. Food was fantastic. Best cooked roaster ever. Friendly staff, Will be back soon.

Sunday Lunch. First time going to The Stag. Very friendly and welcoming staff Food was to die for. Large portions with a great variety of vegetables. Definitely visit again, though will have the smaller portion so can have the desert

Just been here today with friends we had the roast dinner it was amazing plenty of meat portions of veg and potatoes was generous. Staff was amazing very friendly nothing was to much trouble. Definitely coming back thank you very much to all especially to chef for really good food .

A very busy Mothering Sunday but our table for six was treated to an amazing lunch. Friendly service, good quality food all served piping hot, in copious amounts. Thank you all so much.

One of my favourite pubs in which to have a meal ! Have visited many times with family and friends and have never been disappointed; hence returning. Visited 21st February 2024 for a meal as a belated Christmas present from a daughter and her husband; both of whom had never visited before. I have previously had the lamb curry here and the meat was just so tender with fantastic flavour and I recommended this dish to my son-in-law. My daughter had beef and mushrooms in a puff pastry with peppercorn sauce and I had a beef pie with Guinness gravy and a topping of shortcrust pastry. Served with a plentiful jug of extra gravy and seasonal buttered vegetables. We were all delighted with our meals and my family members said they will be returning! The cream on the cake was our server and bartender 'Flo' who made us so welcome and took the time to chat with us....lovely.

The food was awful. We ordered beef lasagne and chicken korma. The beef lasagne had no bechmel sauce or tomato. It was literally mince, pasta and cheese. The korma was beyond bland. And the chips were very greasy. It was super quiet in there and no one came to check everything was okay. Very disappointed and will not return in the future.

We had a group booking for Sunday lunch today. The pub was busy. Food was okay but came out in batches so some had to wait until others had nearly finished. I was sat in a corner so really struggled to get the staff’s attention at all. My pudding never arrived. When I pointed this out 1 staff member said it was probably sat on the counter, the other staff member said they wouldn’t charge me for it (I never got it!). No one apologised, I don’t think they cared.

Food was fantastic and the team were very accommodating for a last minute table for 11! Would heartily recommend 👌

Lovely village pub, just out side of Bath. First class Sunday roast dinner, fast service and good atmosphere. I had the the Pheasant in bacon with all the vegetables. The roast potatoes and the cheesey leeks were delicious. Very good food indeed.

Lovely hosts and excellent food. Staying in an expensive hotel nearby, this food was twice as good. Expertly cooked fillet steak, real homemade chips, sauce cooked to request. A proper pie too. Well priced. Thank you.

Booked in for a Sunday Roast for my fathers birthday. We had a lovely meal, the portions were very generous, the service was lovely and they let us bring home a doggy bag! , Highly recommended!

Sunday lunch is offered in two sizes, standard and small which could be better described as large and standard. My wife opted for the small pork (£14) and didn’t finish it. Daughter went for the two meat ( beef and pork) option at £18 and really enjoyed both. Always good to have a generous separate serving of gravy. My pheasant breast wrapped in bacon was excellent. All served with carrot, parsnip, broccoli, cheesy leeks and the additional side of pigs in blankets. Just about room for lemon mousse, bread and butter pudding and fruit crumble. Staff are friendly and efficient. We would happily recommend Sunday lunch here.

Super food, excellent flavours. extremely generous portions. Staff were incredibly lovely. After London and Bath, this felt so homely and welcoming. Enjoyed having a nosey at the memorabilia and even spotting the 'Chris Martin' piano, which led to a surprising result when investigating online!

Fantastic Sunday lunch - second time I’ve been here for lunch and it was exceptional both times. Quantity, quality and value are all excellent- I wouldn’t hesitate to return over and over again and to recommend to anyone yet to decide. Dog friendly too tho space is tight so wld suggest if you have a dog that’s not overly comfortable being in an environment with other dogs then you leave it behind (shame the dog on the table next to us hadn’t been left at home, no good the owners keep saying ‘he’s not v good with other dogs’! Either get the dog better socialised or leave it behind I didn’t feel it was up to me to be worrying about my docile and we’ll mannered dog the whole time they were sat next to us whilst their ‘excuse’ meant they had done their job of monitoring!). It didn’t detract from what was a very good lunch and much enjoyed by all our party. Thankyou.

No wonder Chris Martin ( Coldplay) popped in !! We rang on the off chance of booking in for Sunday lunch , although fully booked we were offered a one hour window , which we thankfully accepted . The Stag is a family run pub with a welcoming atmosphere . Sunday lunch was excellent , my wife is gluten free and she opted for the nutroast , we were quickly informed that it wasn't GF so she opted for the locally sourced chicken ( child's portion ) she was offered GF cauliflower cheese to compensate for the Yorkshire pudding that came with the meal , all served on suitably hot plates . The quality of food was excellent , wonderful crispy roasties ,extra gravy and lashings of any sauce you wanted . We didn't manage to try the pudding menu as we were suitably replete after the main course ! The staff were super efficient and very friendly , when you compare prices to other local pubs The Stag is an absolute winner !!

Beautiful food and wonderful service

Met a bunch of friends here after a long, country walk and we had an excellent lunch. I had ham, eggs and chips and my wife had Beef Bourguignon. Our friends had fish and chips and everyone was impressed by the quality and the quantity. The beers were also good, a very well kept Timothy Taylor's Landlord. We had a very enjoyable afternoon and would recommend.

First visit here, very friendly welcome, small choice of real ale on draught but two good choices. Sunday food looked good, will be back to sample and hopefully take this review to 5 stars.

We had the most wonderful beef bourguignon here, the atmosphere was very pleasing. There is a great choice on the menu at reasonable prices and a well stocked bar.

Sunday roast was out of this world... The cheesy leeks were another level of yum, there was sooo much food and it was all delicious! Not only was the food amazing but all, and I do mean all, of the staff were so lovely, and service was prompt. New Sunday favourite for sure.

Found this gem of a pub last night whilst staying in the village from Wales . What a lovely welcome from Gabby who’s service was second to none. Very welcoming . Food was delicious and a very enjoyable evening. Thank you to all the staff Will definite be back.

Amazing home cooked food,we called in while staying localy for Sunday lunch and we were blown away with the quality of the food served piping hot and good sized portions just delicious and the hosts Chris and Michaela were so friendly and welcoming we are going back for sure thanks for making us feel so welcome on our visit

Amazing country style food here which will fill up well, with generous portions given. Have recently had the take aways over lockdowns and we are really humbled by what is provided. Taste is superb, the sauces are really unique in flavour and we look forward to each dish. Friendly and atmospheric, well worth a visit!

Took a second sitting on a Sunday lunchtime, for a family of twelve...... All ages. Service was first class, both being waited on and from the bar staff. Not forgetting the Sunday roast, it was excellent. Plenty of it, hot and to everyone's expectations. Nothing was too much. Work done, continue the good work

Absolutely banging food, managed to get the last slot at 3:30 on Sunday, two sizes, standard or small (roast) depending on your appetite, I should of had the small, standard is a lot, but they don't skimp on the quality, tasty and we'll presented, food was hot, which has been an issue in other eateries while waiting for the vegetables to appear. The staff were super friendly, chatty and obviously happy in their work, especially Miss G, would we return? Absolutely.

Does a brilliant Sunday lunch & very good service

I've been here a few times for Sunday lunch and the quality of the food is outstanding. The best Yorkshire puddings I've ever tasted. 7 types of vegetables offered and all beautifully cooked. Vegetarian and vegan options. An extra jug of gravy which is a welcome touch as often pubs don't serve enough gravy and it's already on your plate. The portions are huge and I always end up bringing a doggy bag home. Food is very well priced. Every single member of staff is friendly, welcoming and attentive. I absolutely love this place and wouldn't go anywhere else for a roast dinner. I'm so so pleased they have managed to stay afloat and survive the Covid lockdown. Oh and my friend today had the fruit crumble and cream and she said it was delicious!

It has to has been the best Sunday roast ihave had in quite a few years. The quality, quantity and the different tastes with each mouthful was just exemplary. The staff were fantastic and kept us in the loop at every stage of our visit. The Beer was kept well and great. We were the last table booked and the standard was incredible. What a gem to find.
