Pub was empty, waiter/landlord still insisted no prams as it blocks pathways (plenty of space). Food arrived cold, “vegan” menu was unflavoured potato curry. Held off this review for 2 years but I had nightmares again.

Thought we'd found ourselves a hidden gem...walked through the doors of what appeared to be the entrance of an antiques shop and discovered a cafe. Spacious but a little on the chilly side. The lady behind the counter was welcoming and chatty. There were a few people in the larger room but in all not busy at all. It was 3pm on a Sunday.... We ordered an orange juice and a pork roast dinner each. The food was satisfactory - 6/10 £11+ ahead. It could be such a wonderful place but seemed to lack atmosphere and needs some attention to period decor and detail.

I have always loved Lacock with its beautiful setting, architecture and array of independent shops. Sadly, I had a very upsetting experience today whilst in The Carpenters Arms, I was feeding my baby whilst glancing at the menu and nothing was appealing to me so we decided to put our coats back on and go somewhere else, bearing in mind we were starving at this point! As we were getting ready to leave, the owner (I assume) shouts at me “this isn’t a feeding house”, I said “excuse me, how dare you, we were going to order but there’s nothing on your menu we want” he said “no you weren’t, you only came in here to do that”. I argued that we weren’t and at that point called him a vile and disgusting man, to which he replied that I was for doing what I did!!! “What, feeding my baby?!” - he was so awful!!! I was and am so upset, it’s not easy feeding in public and I’ve never had any problems until now! We weren’t doing any harm and genuinely were hoping to order food, but from previous experience anywhere that has a huge menu with pictures of food next to each item screams poor quality to me and massively puts me off. I also heard a member of staff speak in a rude manner to another customer which only added to the bad vibes I had about the place.

Putting same here that I left for other, as it seems unreasonable that reviews are looked at for the wrong venue -£28 odd for 2 cafe meals and a pot of tea for 2,Ham, egg, chips - packet ham, cooked cheap frozen chips, eggs with no idea if free range etc.Spinach, cheese and potato pie (over microwaved - could only taste and see spinach and over/ under cooked pastry), gravy (pkt), 3 whole pots - fine- veg - heated frozen cabbage, carrot, cauli - fine. For the price it was awful, at 6.95 it would have been acceptable for veg option. The veg main was so over microwaved the pastry was too hard to cut through (by the time it cooled) and too hot to eat straight away... put lots of vinegar on to cool down and soften. Also put lots of pepper to season it all.The ham egg and chips would have been ok priced at £4.95.Tables dirty - cleaned off ourselves.Counter service but staff muddled with numbers.Tables & chairs comfy.Staff fine and friendly.Gents toilets filthy.Ladies - lovely lovely toilets and matching sinks (antique?), but all filthy (really poo up the sides etc ) terrible decoration all in need of a refurb. Yuck came out needing a wash of hands elsewhere.

How can this possibly be? One of the most beautiful villages.....a magnet for tourists.....a fantastic spot.....and it serves up this disaster!! The village boasts 3 pubs and this stands loud and proud as the worst. The decor is shocking, the welcome is cold from the staff......it comes across as you are intruding on their day.......our welcome was.....'we are cash only'. The lager was flat, the lime cordial warm.....the red wine was pleasant. Food wise......my pasty was ordinary, the scampi and chips out of a packet and the sandwich so awash with cranberry sauce it was a jam sandwich. Avoid at all costs and keep your fingers crossed that it gets taken over soon by someone who knows what their doing.

A very rare negative review from me .... but .... as other people have said this place is very questionable. To be fair, on our visit the landlord wasn't particularly rude, just detached and devoid of communication .... but .... the food was appalling. Both of us plumped for 'beef pasty' and chips ..... but .... the meat filling had little taste, most of the pasty mixture was potato ..... and the pastry was soggy, claggy and had the texture having been warmed up in a microwave but cannot confirm that. ..... I'm generally happy to pay without quibble but £8.75 for the dish did not represent good value .......... we were hungry and got in out of the rain, but really should have swerved past The Carpenters Arms ..... might be a coincidence but both of us have had indigestion since lunch ....

Very unpleasant owners. We entered this pub to buy something to eat for our 9 year old daughter. We ordered sausage&chips to go. The package was too big to be handled on the go so we chose one table (all tables were empty but one) and we sat down. We were prepared to pay the difference but the owner came and told us we had to leave because we had a take away meal. The pub was empty, in any case we went outside and we saw an old and very rusty table far from the entrance and we tried to let our daughter seat there in order to eat. Nobody was there. Before we could take a seat the wife of the owner came out and told us to leave the premises, again because we bought a take away meal. We explained it was to big to be handled on the go, but she didn't offer any alternatives. We left and we will never go back for sure.

We visited today for the second time ever. It was very busy due to Lacock having a fair on. The first time we visited we had 2 x chicken burgers to take away, about £4 each this time we stayed in to have them and paid about £11 each. The burgers are pretty appalling just reconstituted chicken and so for the extra £7 we got chips and salad. The salad came with one slice of cucumber! And one slice of tomato! Incredibly stingy. The manager/landlord was generally rude, I heard him argue with the people on the table next to us about a slice of bread. We had visit the Carpeners Arms 4 or 5 times in the past and had always found it to be a pleasant experience with reasonable food at reasonable prices with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. No longer true. The pub has been rebuilt internally with much of the pub now being an antique shop (!) and to us felt more like a (cheap) cafe than a pub. The place has zero atmosphere and the staff although polite added nothing to the experience of visiting. The menu is bland and uninspiring as to be honest was the food, which was perfectly edible but no more. Despite this being more of a cafe than a Pub and the menu seemingly being based on a similar 1970s version we did not have any problems with what we ate or the service. haut Cuisine this is not and probably gets away with serving such dated basic meals because there is a new tranche of tourists visiting daily but it is certainly not expensive and a perfectly adequate experience for what we wanted.

Disappointing lunch. We ordered and paid for a Cornish pasty and a hot sausage roll. We were served a very poor excuse for a pasty, which contained mince and hot dog! When we pointed out that we had orders a sausage roll, they agreed to change it and swiftly served a sausage roll that had been warmed in the microwave. The hot dog was more expensive therefore we were due a refund of the difference, which we did eventually receive. Returned to Lacock many years after our first visit and thought we would return to the pub we visited for lunch before, which from our recall was very nice. What a mistake. Looks great from the outside, but inside I'm not sure what it is trying to be. A pub, an ice cream shop, a gift shop, a tea room and antiques being sold. A real mishmash. First impressions not good but as it was getting late decided to order. Faggots on the menu, one of my favourites. Order taken, with not much of a smile, then delivered with even less of a smile. My wife had a broken fried egg on her ham, staff clearly have no sense of pride. Couldn't be bothered to complain, just wanted to eat and get out. We went in on a busy Saturday just after Christmas for lunch. I asked the bar lady if I could order drinks, she said someone else would have to take my order, then I asked to order food, she gave the same reply and left. A grumpy man in a scruffy cardigan then appeared to take my order. With a hostile and impatient demeanour, he told me there was no draft beer, so I ordered from a row if bottles behind him. I asked to order food and was abruptly told I had to have a table first. My wife went to find somewhere to sit when he said “just two of you? Sit there” pointing to a table for two. While we sat waiting, several families in quick succession came in and went to sit at the empty tables in the front area, whereupon the man hurried over and abruptly sent them packing, telling them no children were allowed in the front seating area and the families area at the back was full. We estimated he had turned away £200 in food orders in about 10 minutes! The food when it came, wasn’t bad and even the fact that there was no draft beer could be accepted though it still appears to be a pub. But the hostile and rude bar man is totally unacceptable and we won’t go there again.

As we were deciding what to drink the barman then told my dad to go and sit down! My dad commented that to the barman the fact there was absolutely no need to be rude to which he laughed. The menu is shocking and the food didn't look that good either! I'd avoid this cafe at all costs unless rude staff, poor service and average food is your thing. Needless to say we left

Our afternoon in Lacock was spoiled by the extreme rudeness of whom I assume to be the manager. We bought cups of tea in the bar, and had hoped to buy cakes but nothing was listed on the menu and we weren't aware of the cafe counter. I went to take a bite out of a snack I had brought in from the shop opposite. Immediately the barman shouted across the bar at us. I stopped and apologised, but he continued shouting and even made snide comments about us to another family of customers. At no point were we discourteous, but we felt humiliated in front of the other customers. I phoned the pub later to explain the situation, and even apologised again for bringing a cake in, but he continued to rant at me before putting the phone down. I fully accept that the cafe has to make a living and I was in the wrong to bring a snack in, but I would gladly have bought an item from the cafe if I was aware of it. The situation could easily have been handled quietly and courteously, but instead it has left a bad taste in the mouth. Fortunately as a customer I do not have to return. The other staff were very friendly and their service was good. I feel sorry for them for having to work with this rude and unprofessional man.

If I could rate a 0 star I would. I went here today after visiting a lovely but wet and windy lacock. Looking for somewhere to cover ourselves from the rain and wind and warm up with a hot drink and a light snack. I arrived today and was greeted by a lovely women (I assume one of the owners) and a younger female. There was 6 of us and I said if needed were happy to spread across 2 tables, they kindly gave us a reserved table of six. We was directed to our table, shown our menu's, special board and told to order at the bar when we were ready. After sitting for a few moments we decided to order; 2 x Pots of tea 1x English breakfast tea 1x Earl Grey 1x White hot chocolate 3 x Chips (for the kids) I went to the bar and was greeted to see nobody there. I waited around 5 minutes before walking through to the bakery/ice cream section, the kind women apologised and directed me back to the original bar and asked the gentleman in the kitchen to come and take my order. The gentleman came to the bar that I was stood at and was fiddling with a laptop, then continued to say 'so what do you want' as I began to give my order my mother came to the bar and asked if 1 pot of tea can we have an additonal mug (so the kids can share a pot). After our drinks order he said 'well that's only 4 drinks' .. we explained yes that's right we have 2 mugs for one pot so that's 5 drinks and can we also...... then we was rudely interrupted with him saying 'yeah I got all that but its only 4'. I tried my best to bite my tongue and I said to him again, that's fine. But I would also like a white hot chocolate. Before finishing our order he had rung it up and told me the total, I said I'm sorry I would like to order 2 portions of chips, can you tell me what size they are please. His reply was 'well they are chips, it's a portion. They are chips in a soup bowl' I replied if thats the case can I have 3 please. He told me the total of £21.00. And mums being mums she wanted to pay, I said sorry to be a pain can we split the bit £11 on one card £10 on another as my mum wants to pay something. With a undeniable loud sigh and a roll of his eyes he took our card payments. We went and sat at our table. My niece was struggling with th wait and asked to try some of my Lardie Cake I had in a bag. (I wouldn't usually bring food it but we was shopping). My niece opened the packet and pulled the tiniest piece of cake and began to eat it. With a glare from the bar the barman almost ran over to the table and said extremely abruptly 'your not allowed to eat outside food In here' now I am very annoyed as he spoke that way towards an 11 year old child. I said 'okay, I apologise my niece is hungry and wanted to try some Lardie Cake. He replied 'I dont care' he turnt on the spot and walked away. After being very tempted to ask for a refund I began to collect my things together and told my family we will go elsewhere a lovely young lady bought out drinks over, serving us with a kind smile. She asked if everything was okay and we explained the gentleman was very abrupt and the server couldn't apologise enough. A short while after the server and a younger gentleman bought out our light snacks and they were both very proffesional, smiling and couldn't do enough for any of us. I explained to them that the malt vinegar was very clear and looked watered down with white vinegar. The server quickly replaced this for us and refilled our sauce bottles. It is such a shame that a vile and damn right rude gentleman could be that rude to his customers. Especially a child. The lovely women and servers were the only reason we stayed and didnt get a refund and leave. The food is decent priced, some things are above average in price but this is mainly due to the location. Great quaint pub, clean and tidy. But. With a manager/owner like that, I am very suprised that the place is even open. Such a shame. Ruined a lovely afternoon.

We visited the Cornerstone Cafe which I believe is the same business as this disguised pub. We ordered the ‘special’ carrot and coriander soup and unfortunately it had way too much pepper in it to the extent that it was inedible. I very rarely send food back but unfortunately we couldn’t eat it so I reluctantly went up to the counter and spoke to Frank and very politely explained the situation with the food and apologised that we couldn’t eat it. He got us some cream to cool it down while muttering that carrot and coriander is a “peppery soup”.

We visited the Cornerstone Cafe which I believe is connected to this business. We came in for their ‘special’ carrot and coriander soup and unfortunately it had way too much pepper in it to the extent that it was inedible. I reluctantly took it and the soup was still inedible. We went back up and politely asked for our money back and what we received in return was incredible. Frank was beyond rude to us and refused to give us our money back, he said he’d only refund half and that the soup wasn’t peppery and it was down to personal taste. We explained that it did have way too much pepper in and asked for our full money back on the food which he refused to give us. His tone was beyond rude as he told us the soup was a “best seller” and we were made to feel extremely unwelcome. As a person who rarely complains about food when eating out I was taken aback and left with feelings of anger and disappointment. We’d paid for half a meal we couldn’t eat and received no apology from Frank. It’s by no chance that you have to pay for your food before receiving it! How this man continues to run a business is beyond me, he shouldn’t be in the business if he refuses to offer simple customer service. Please please please don’t give this man any of your money. I strongly wondered as two woman whether he would have spoken to a man like this, however, reading other reviews it seems that his manner is common place. I can honestly say this experience ruined our visit and memory at Lacock and we won’t return as a result.

My wife and I was visiting NT in Lacock on Thursday 25th and having eaten at The Carpenters many years ago and enjoying our meal we then decided to visit again. Having found it from our memory we were not sure it is was as the Neon Cafe lights seemed as if we had found the incorrect place but we knew it was as it was opposite the bakery.

Food was terrible, Service sub-standard and the attitude of the manager was diabolical. After waiting an hour the wrong order arrived, when they finally brought what we ordered as you can see in the photo this Shepherds pie was disgusting. Pick another pub😫

I like this place. Difficult to agree with the negative reviews. Food and service was good. According to my wife, she ate the best sticky toffee pudding ever in The Carpenters Arms.

Encantador

Stopped in Lacock for lunch on my way home and sadly my usual lovely cafe was not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. I stopped here as it was the only place l could find. The welcome was far from warm with the waitress sitting down and could hardly be bothered to talk. I ordered a bacon baguette and when it arrived with some tired browning salad and a horrid dressing, l took one bite to find that the bread was cold, so was the bacon and the butter was either rancid or was in fact margarine. I sent it back and it reappeared with huge chunks of butter slapped inside which I had to remove with a knife. Just dreadful in every way. I will never return.

Surprised this pub is still running! Two younger staff members tried to be as helpful as possible but were shut down by who I assume is the owner. Ask to move tables despite the pub being empty. Food was average but would NEVER return. Would much rather have a pleasant time at the Red Lion or the George.

We booked for a family lunch yesterday. Restaurant is lovely and staff were very welcoming. Our starters were amazing, absolutely delicious. Though the roast was very average in my opinion. We had roast pork which stated it came with stuffing. It wasn’t on the plate so we had to ask for that. The lady did bring out 2 stuffing balls but we had 3 roasts. Carrots were very hard. Very average for the price I would say. We did have a lovely time and we will definitely be back, but will just probably go for something else other than a roast next time.

Misrepresentation. Cheap, but the room is light years from what we booked through the website. The images are really, REALLY not representative! The room smelled bad, the bathroom is from the 60's, there is mold and the shower has no pressure.

As I’m a northerner Harry Ramsdens is very close to my heart,so when I visited the one in Swindon I was a little apprehensive about what they would serve up. It was all superb, and the staff were so friendly as well. Definitely worth a visit.

A great lunch or casual dinner place is right in the supermarket! We had a great meal when we just went in for a quick snack after a successful food shopping trip. Kudos to the kitchen staff, especially JASON, who made us feel welcome and served up some great food (fish and chips, cheeseburgers, fries, hamburgers, chicken nuggets for the children). I'd go back any time we're shopping in Chippenham.

Have stayed here 3 times before.also have stayed in numerous wetherspoons hotels and recommended them to everyone.i have to say we were quite disappointed this time.the staff were very helpful but this hotel needs a serious makeover.our room although bed and very quite wasn't the best.air con not working although we had a heater which was sufficient heating the room.and in all fairness the lovely guy who checked us in told us about it and said if we needed another heater to let him know.towel heater didn't work and tv lost tv channels!!!.OK if you wanted to watch kids cctv.the shower took a age to drain.sad to say but next visit to Salisbury won't be staying here unless major refurbishment.
