Held a retirement party in The Lounge, had booked the buffet option done but outside caterers. Was emailed a large & varied menu, I double checked that everything was included for £15 per head - when it was served there was about 8 platters & no where near the full amount of food off the menu. Certainly not worth the money, it was fresh & looked nice but terrible quantity!! The manager was no help at all, she kept saying she’d come back to me with an answer, I’m still waiting 😡😡

Booked for the library area for a retirement party but due to a double booking we were in the main lounge area cordoned off The main complaint is about the DJ who believe it or not does not take requests and only plays the music for himself , the manager spoke to him too and he still did not alter the music. Someone should remind him he is in the ‘hospitality’ industry and therefore should cater to the paying customer So if you are thinking of hiring the venue for a party insist on hiring your own DJ

Had our daughters 21st birthday party here. The venue was a great place with friendly staff and well managed by 'Jake' the manager. The food was very good and service, would definitely book again for future parties. A great evening celebrated with family and friends.

I went here for a wedding. Although the location itself is fine and modern, the staff are disgusting individuals who I wouldn't trust to organise a p*ss-up in an alehouse. While waiting for the "food" that was part of the wedding reception, we all got stuck queueing at this tiny door that leads into a bigger room. The "food" in question (of which I use air-quotes to describe) was basically cold garlic bread and ketchup. Because we were all cramped at this tiny door waiting for people to collect their garlic bread and ketchup, a female member of staff hits me in the back and yells "CAN YOU NOT STAND IN THE DOORWAY?" Bro, I'm not standing here for the good of my health. I'm here because I'm queuing for food. I gave up at that point because the food looked like $#!+ anyway and went back to sit down and drink the rest of my beer. There's absolutely nowhere to sit, by the way. I'm disabled and I need to sit down, but the venue just wasn't appropriate for the amount of people in the party, so there was nowhere to sit. So I'm annoyed and hungry because I didn't want the awful food. I finally found somewhere cramped in the corner to sit, so I drank the rest of my drink and watched the staff aggressively push and yell at people to get out of the way. I've worked in food service jobs before, and if I screamed at people the way these stupid women screamed at people, I would find myself unemployed VERY quickly. Keep in mind there were no windows, fans or air conditioning, so this cramped room was about 30 degrees. Naturally, you probably think that this seems like an overreaction on my behalf, and I should probably just shrug it off. I agree with you, but I still wanted to make a complaint. My brother, whom I was with, complained to a member of staff - who was very polite and courteous - about the way we had been spoken to, and received an email to forward a complain to. This, however, is most likely fruitless. As you can see from the other 1 star reviews, this hotel is poorly managed, and are incapable of even the most basic book keeping tasks. As we were about to leave we sat outside (the only place that had seating) and the "manager" came out to speak to us. I use air-quotes once again to describe this unfortunate being as a "manager" because in all honesty he looked like a 12 year-old in his dad's suit. The manager - seething - asked us why we had dared complain about his wonderful staff. My brother explained that he was going to explain the minutiae in the email he had been provided. Throwing a tantrum, the 12 year-old posing as the manager cried out "WELL FINE, BE THAT WAY THEN!" I have seen children with more grace and decorum. That is the story of the Carlton Hotel. I shall not be going back, thankfully, because I do not live in the area. But I would highly recommend not booking anything here. If you want to go in for a drink, the bar staff are all very capable and polite, but every other female member of staff I interacted with just acted like I killed their parents in cold blood. I include the manager as a female member of staff, because he acted like one. lol. lmao.

We went to have a drink here with a view to enquiring about it being our wedding reception venue. Alex was lovely and advised they would compile details/prices however despite numerous further calls I’m yet to receive the email with details/prices. Every time I call they advise they can remember my visit and what we discussed but then ask every detail about me and what we discussed so clearly didn’t remember me at all, every call ends with an apology and promise of this being looked into and me being contacted. None of which has materialised. Disappointing.

We have visited this place several times and always enjoyed it however tonight was not enjoyable at all. On entering we were told that we had to sit in the rear area which was fine but when we had bought a second drink we were then informed that this area was reserved. We were then asked to move to a table which can only be described as the naughty corner next to the toilets. Totally unacceptable and will definitely not visit again. Our drinks were refunded but should not have been served in the first place.

When in town we love to stop & have a drink here as love the ambience & music so thought it would be the perfect venue to hold our wedding celebration party next year, so disappointed to be totally ignored despite emails, phone calls & facebook messages. Well fine, if that's how they treat potential clients we'll look elsewhere!

Always walked by this venue with my partner and have both always said we need to try it out. When you first walk in, you can tell by the decor and the space of the venue it is a welcoming place. You are greeted straight away by a member of staff, and you are able to be seated as soon as you walk in. The cocktails are very nice, great value for the price also. I would highly recommend for people to try the cocktails. Reading previous reviews, cocktails are meant to take roughly 5-10 minutes as when you are making a cocktail they can take a little bit of time so they taste perfect. It is not something that can be rushed. As someone who has previously worked in a cocktail bar this is the standard procedure. So please ignore the previous review below as they clearly don’t know what they are talking about.

Wonderful venue but lacking customers, bar service is slow and a lady bizarrely walks round taking drinks orders that take an age to arrive - so much opportunity but little imagination to attract customers and the right type of customers

What a stylish wonderful new venue for Newcastle under Lyme, The Carlton is a mix of modern and retro decoration with a welcoming atmosphere, outside seating in the front garden, a light and spacious area just inside and a more cosy atmosphere in the library in the rear of the building. Currently serving a drinks and a selection of coffees and teas. Service was very good staff polite and attentive. Found by accident but will return soon.

Being relatively local have eaten here several times. Some of these reviews make me laugh. The new touch screen, for free car parking is at the check in desk, can’t be missed!! Unfortunately I understand that other nearby businesses were using the Toby Carvery to park their cars hence the new system making sure only Carvery customers are in the car park. Easy to use, no fuss, no problem whatsoever, dont blame them for doing it!! As for food choices, It’s a Carvery, it’s what they do and do best and why people go….. walk in, tea is ready, no waiting. Always plenty of choice. Turkey, Pork and Gammon always spot on, Lamb on Sundays. Beef, if I have to be honest can occasionally be a bit hit and miss, so never my first choice. How some of these people pile their plates up like mountains, is great entertainment but it’s part and parcel of the whole Carvery experience and why people keep going back. Good basic food, plenty of it, at a good price.

Our intentions were to go to another local Wether spoons but this is closed for renovations. Sat at a unclean sticky table as we had no choice. Had to literally ask where are my Crisps as staff too busy dancing about to pay any attention! Then we received the wrong ones but would of waited ages to get proper ones. Staff spilt a shot over my Dad which they will be billed for if the stains don't come out. Food well Dad enjoyed his but my food was cold. Disgusting they had no Mayo at all and the Tomato sauce was rebottled. Chips were that hard I had to soak them in Vinegar to make them edible. Day light robbery for a bit of cheese. Won't come to this Spoons again and went to another after so to keep our sanity. Never again.

Stayed here with a disabled friend for two nights. Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. However the young lady who was serving breakfast on our first morning was surly and unhelpful to the point of rudeness. To give one example, when we asked for some toast she glared at us and said the toaster had been switched off!! She made us feel that we were a nuisance and her attitude really upset my friend who had made a great effort to go on this break. She thought the girl's attitude was because she had to serve someone in a wheelchair. However we did find out later that the girl is generally unpleasant. In my opinion she brings discredit to Slater's Inn. On a positive note, by contrast the gentleman who served breakfast the next morning couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.
