The Caraway in Carmarthenshire

Food was awful. Pizza undercooked. Mash was cold. Kyle the waiter was wonderful he kept the children occupied with colourings and crayons while waiting for our food. Big mix up on our bill too.

Been eating here the past few months when working at st clears, very clean and nice environment to have a meal, staff are lovely and Louise always made sure we had what we needed.

Phoned ahead at around 7.20pm on Sunday June 6th to reserve a table and call rang out with no answer. Arrived and at 8pm got told no food only drinks service. No apology offered simply a shrug of the shoulders. If someone could be bothered to answer the phone or have a pre recorded message with food serving times it would have saved us wasting our time and me being so annoyed by the poor service that I've written a review about it.

No soft drinks, run out of pizza and cutlery was dirty. Make sure you tell your customers that you have run out of some foods and drinks before they order!!

Really nice inside The food is amazing, I've had a few dishes here and always been happy The roast is really nice and the staff can't do enough for you They cater to whatever you need Kate and Kyle are really good they look after you well

After a rather problamatic journey to Camarthen road works! Etc. We arrived at the Caraway. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with very proffesional and kind staff. The Caraway was execptionally clean, tables etc adhered to Covid rules. All areas clearly marked, toilets immacalute. The meals were had were lovely, service quick and efficient. Would I reccomend the Caraway DEFINATELY. Would I visit again DEFINATELY.Thanks especially to Emily and Kyle for their exceptional service and to the Manager Cae for his warm greeting and care to us and all patrons. Well done and thank you.

We called for a meal mid week during half term. The staff were absolutely amazing. The service was outstanding. From being sat to ordering to receiving food the attention given by all the staff was just fantastic. Extremely polite and very helpful. The quality of food was also outstanding. Would highly recommend

Called in bank holiday Monday staff there were excellent food was great and although things can look a bit pricey all meals were 2 for 1 so worked out very reasonable . Will definitely call in again .

Great little place to know about as often has availability at last minute which is great in this day and age where you have to book everything so far in advance. We arrived and were told a lot of the menu wasn’t available as they hadn’t had a delivery, not great but fair enough they can’t cook what they haven’t got. A few minutes later they said the delivery had just pulled up so if we could wait a few minutes we could have anything off the menu. Food was lovely and the staff were great. Felt very safe without anyone being over the top, accepting that you can’t always keep your kids stick to their seats. Also staff happy to take your order if you could use the app if you wanted too. Nice to have the choice and a lot easier to actually give someone your order than try and order on an app when there’s a few of you. Overall lovely meal will visit again.

Absolutely loved this place friendly staff. Signed us in as booked table and was so understanding regarding the table we wanted. The food was delicious and after a long time of not being able to be in a setting like the pub it was brilliant. Staff were on hand for everything we needed will be going back again

I stopped by for food now they are back open.Lovely friendly lady at the door greeted and seated me, I had a drink order taken straight away. After placing my order, table side, I was only waiting 10-15 minutes before it arrived, well presented and hot. Staff checked back to make sure everything was OK and to ask if I needed anything.The place was nice and clean, looked brighter and it had such a nice atmosphere. Busy but not chaotic and all staff seemed to be on top of everything. Well done guys, great to see you open again and good to be back!Sorry, no picture, I was enjoying the food too much!

Had a lovely meal out with the kids. The staff were friendly and helpful, we were served by Louise and Megan who couldn't do enough to make sure we were looked after. The food was served in a timely manner and was nice and hot, will be going back again

I wouldn't bother wasting any money or time here. Being buy one get one free we didn't expect amazing quality food, but we did expect it to at least be edible. The plate looked dirty from a previous meal dried on which is not only disgusting but very unhygienic especially during these uncertain times!! The staff were friendly enough and the poor lasses seemed embarassed I did feel for them. Manager need to have a word with their cooks and cleaners!

It has been a while since we visited the Caraway - pandemic not withstanding - and so we thought we'd try again.This time, disaster struck. We waited 45 minutes for food to come out, and when it did it was far from the best meal we've had here. However, when approached, both staff and management were keen to rectify the issue, explaining what had gone wrong and why, and ensured that despite our disastrous visit, we left feeling valued and wanting to return. You can't get it right 100% of the time, but how it is dealt with when things go wrong makes a big difference. Good luck to the new manager and the staff. It's a thankless job, sometimes, but I really hope you do well here.

Such lovely service from all the wonderful staff and excellent food, what else could you ask for? Would definitely come back, it’s our new favourite spot!

My husband and I went for a meal her for our wedding anniversary. We seated in a nice quiet spot and our drinks order was taken immediately. The front of house staff were friendly, prompt and attentive. Our food arrived quickly, hot and fresh and was delicious. We had a lovely evening, with good food, good wine, lovely atmosphere and the staff were fantastic. Would highly recommend the Caraway and will be returning soon.

Visited today for dinner with my husband and our daughter. Nice to see a specials menu again so hubby and I went for a meal each from that and our daughter had a starter as she wasn't very hungry. We had our order taken soon after being seated. It got quite busy as we sat waiting for food to arrive but we weren't waiting too long, food was very nice and hot, my steak seemed a little over how I asked for it but I still enjoyed it.There appeared to be only 2 staff working out front the whole time we were there so people were waiting to be seated/served maybe longer than they liked but the 2 young men were non stop. Glad we arrived when we did!

We enjoyed our visit to The Caraway. Very Covid aware. We were asked to wait at the front door to be shown to our table. Sanitizer provided along with disposable menus. We used the queueing system to order at the bar. Food was hot & tasty

Popped in for lunch today and was greeted by a lovely, friendly waitress who explained everything about procedures and led us to a table, asking if the seat chosen was ok. Tried to order on app but the order took 20 minutes to come back through email that what we chose wasn’t available. Found the nice waitress who apologised and took our order, took a while to arrive but it was good food and we felt safe with the waitresses wearing masks at all times and cleaning areas promptly. Will return when in the area again.

While down visiting family we decided to visit this establishment. We are regular marstons customers of 20 years and often attend our local one the clock tower in Cheltenham. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly. The food was as the title says simply brilliant on all 3 courses, especially the apple pie. I'd also like to highlight the service we got from kieran who went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our dining experience. Still a very happy marstons customer. A truly deserved 5 out of 5

Had a very nice meal here with my family a couple of days ago. Staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed including the manager who gave us a fabulous welcome into the pub which is not something you get often. Food was excellent quality. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks all.

I was more than happy with the service I received today from both staff and manager who went above and beyond to make sure my visit was a good one and they succeeded. Fabulous team of staff who clearly seem happy in their work! Would definitely be visiting again and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Friendly staff and manager, helpful and quick service. The food was lovely and fairly priced, and the Caraway is an ideal family place, with clean facilities.

Me my wife and 2 children visited the restaurant. There was a friendly member of staff to greet us and take us to our seats. The table was clean and a safe distance from other customers (covid). The food arrived in a timely manner and was cooked to perfection. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, this hasn't always been the case but the staff all seem much happier and more competent now which leads me to believe something has changed recently. A change for the better in any case. A well deserved 5/5

Booked a last minute table for two, was accommodated with friendly manner. The manager was very friendly, seen us quickly sawn too, starters where out in speedy time, piping hot and beautiful. Mains were quickly after and all the time asked if there was anything else we wanted or needed. Amazing service, very friendly and cannot wait to go back

I recently visited the Caraway on the way home from visiting family. I don't normally eat in "chain" restaurants as I'm a really fussy eater. However, I was very pleasantly surprised!! Firstly the staff were very welcoming, I was eating solo and they immediately made me feel at ease. I didn't have to wait for a table, was seated almost immediately. The restaurant was very clean (always a good sign). I went for the meat feast pizza, I could have eaten it twice!!!

My partner and I were travelling back from his parents and stopped off for some food. We were seated and served quickly by exceptionally polite staff. The food was of a very good quality, above the standard I would have expected from a restaurant of this kind and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Will definitely return and recommend to friends and family

What pleasant staff nothing was too much trouble. We moved table as I was sat in a draft again no problem. Felt very safe re covid. My steak was cooked to perfection and appreciated the 2 for 1 offer

Booked a table here last minute today and were happy to get a table for 2 ad and a 6 yr old. Arrived at 1.55 for our 2pm booking. Was greeted by a friendly enough lady who took us to our table and said she would be back to take out order. We were sat in the family area.. but the table next to us consisted of about 6 25ish year olds, with language much to be desired! Not what I want my son to be hearing while out for sunday dinner!The table had salt spilt on it (there were no condiments on the table) and sticky glass marks. So about 2.22pm, we still hadn't had a drink or food order taken so my partner goes to check if it actually is table service and if we could move.The window seat opposite was unoccupiable due to social distancing..which would have been fine but we were already positioned about 1m away from the foul mouthed adults without children in the family area. The waitress comes to take our order and says theres a table in the other area we can move to. Fab.This table was clean, window seat, great and we even had dead flies for company. 2 lamb shanks and a kids chicken dinner finally arrive at 2.55.. understandable if it was busy but really wasnt. My sons food was the perfect luke warm temperature for him so that was fab! We told the waitress ours was cold and fair play she took it back no bother and we were pleased when she finally bought us back fresh plates that she had apparently been watching them make sure were hot etc before bringing back, and informed us we would not be billed for the 2 adult meals. Great, but an apology would have sufficed if the food that followed was going it be up to scratch. Clearly she knew something surely didn't! Surely if a customer has had an issue with their meal you would table check right? Wrong. Our replacement meals came, the carrots still looked pale, with a brown rim, like they had been left in water way too long and were far from fresh.. the mash, tasted like cheap margarine, must be a frozen mash which they try to make take fresh. The greese resting in the middle of the Yorkshire.. you could have sworn it was deep fried. Cold, dry stuffing balls and a greasy lamb shank with more bones than I've ever seen. But it did fall off the bones! Fat and all. The gravy looked like it had the fat from an Indian on the top. Really poor quality produce.. but I think the staff know that due to the quickness of a refund.

Food was perfect and staff were very welcoming and more than happy to help with anything, good atmosphere and very clean throughout the establishment and adhering to covid restrictions very well and always keeping check on you should you need anything.Very good prices and good deals such as the 2 for 1 on all meals, food was warm and fresh and served with a smile.Would definitely come again and highly recommend to anyone.

Spent a week at Carmarthen Bay on holiday, did the same a couple of years ago. Ate at the Caraway when we last stayed, thought it was good back then and returned this time to find the same. We've eaten there 3 times this week, Saturday, Monday and Thursday and only had one problem, a steak that had a lot of gristle in it, but this was addressed and a new meal was happily sorted straight away. Staff are friendly and accommodating, even if one of them thinks I pronounce nachos incorrectly ;-) Can't recommend this place enough. Will definitely eat here again if we're in the area again.

Just been for lunch.The place was far from full, they were turning people away if they had not booked. Reason? Guess not enough staff on duty in restaurant/bar- one waitress serving the tables and one person taking orders for food and drink at the bar!!!! I felt quite sorry for the young waitress. The main courses were ok but the cheesecake dessert had not been out of freezer long enough.We have been here a couple of weeks ago and it seemed a lot better then! Have to think twice about returning!!!

As our usual go-to Sunday Lunch favourite was fully booked we decided to branch out and try somewhere new.We came here on Sunday 23rd and we were not disappointed! I had the beef and it was delicious, not dry nor tough, and the home made Yorkshire puddings were amazing and rather large! My friend had the lamb and it literally fell of the bone, delicious! Lady who served us at the bar was very friendly, can't remember her name sorry I think she was the manager, and the covid rules in place made us feel at ease. fair play Caraway we will be back!

First time out with family since lockdown beginning of March, very nervous going. . . But was quickly reassured, clean, spacious, there was a one way system. The staff were absolute great, couldn’t do enough for us. Starters came out promptly, I Ordered the rib eye steak, cooked perfectly. Thank you for making our first meal out such a breeze, will be calling again in the future.

We booked a table for tonight for our first meal out since lockdown. The service and quality were fantastic. Alex, Amy and Megan were very friendly and helpful. Very impressed with this pub. Called on a Friday evening on our way home from Folly Farm and it turned out to be a great choice. Felt very safe with precautions due to covid too. BOGOF on main meals and specials. I had a macstack burger which was very nice. Lovely, friendly staff, nice little park for kids and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Shame to see it so quiet on a Friday night!

Under New Management Alex and Meg, Food served hot. Good seating arrangement, easy signs to follow. Hand sanitizer when you arrive and going to and from toilets. Good range of food, but one get one free always a extra bonus 😁

It was our first meal out today after shielding. I'm glad we chose The Caraway, it was well organised and clean which made me feel very safe. We chose to eat outside (just personal preference), the service was excellent, food was lovely, really good value for money. Alex served us, we had a lovely conversation. Upon arriving at the caraway today we were greeted at the door by a wonderful, charismatic lad named Alex, everything regarding the covid guidelines for the premises including how to order etc was explained as we were directed to our seats.My children are extremely fussy eaters and trying to please them is a challenge at best. We ordered starters, mains and desserts... Everything was spot on! The young girl (Amy) and her colleague (Megan) both served me at various points and the service I received was top class.Amy was a natural despite it being her first week and her first time behind a bar and I was extremely impressed. Every single meal served to us had zero complaints from my children which is an actual first. Our food was served to us by a young lad (Ben) who was extremely polite and added to our already wonderful experience.Compliments to the chefs for the outstanding food we received tonight, We couldn't be happier with our visit and will definately return! Smiles all round and very full tummies.Highly recommended

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful meal with our son and daughter in law at the Caroway last night. We had booked a table for 7:30pm and as soon as we arrived we are shown to our table and had a browse through the menu.My son and husband choose the mega grill ... which was huge and consisted of steak, gammon steak, lamb chop, large beef burger, two sausages, two eggs, chips, salad and coleslaw. They were asked how they liked their meat cooked and it was perfect. Both my husband and son were beat by the amount of food and left some.My daughter in law had a delicious looking and tasting salad with chicken, bacon, loads of different salad produce, toasted bread and dressings. I had a chicken breast wrapped in bacon with bbq sauce and Monterrey Jack cheese, chips, corn on the cob and coleslaw ... It was delicious.For dessert we all had the deliciously indulgent chocolate sundaes (one each with my son choosing the large sharing option just for himself ... needless to say he couldn't finish it). We also had drinks with our meal.From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the atmosphere and service was truly first class, the waiter was polite and very helpful. We were given time to finish our meal without feeling hurried (even though we are the last ones there and they were waiting to close).Hand sanitizer was available at the entrance and all social distancing rules were applied. We felt safe and catered for.Highly recommend

The pub is a chain type institution but the staff make it feel like a local tavern. They are very friendly and professional. The first and last in the title refers to this being my first visit to the bar and us being the last people to be served before they closed on the the announcement that bars, clubs and theatres were to shut up as soon as possible due to coronavirus.Therefore I’m not able to rate the food we were about to order, but the menu looked fairly broad and the prices quite acceptable. I can only hope that in the fullness of time and at the right juncture I am able to return, sample more of the offerings besides the lager and give a fuller review.

Had excellent service on arrival . Went to order food and unfortunately after I got to the bar three was a little discussion between two people over who got there first (correct person served first)Food arrived - Sunday lunch , burger and order of chips - and the Sunday lunch was of a decent portion . But mega portion ! May he not . The fish turned up grilled and not battered . Sunday lunch was nice . For the price the entire meal was was reasonable . Can see it’s quite popular with people heading to from Fishguard....

What a wonderful find the Caraway was in Carmarthen, base in lovely surroundings I ordered the Meat Pizza at the Caraway, well, this has to be the best pizza I have had for years, it was delicious, all home made. My wife had the traditional Fish & Chips, the couple next to us had steaks and after comparing meals we all enjoyed. To top it all the staff are ever so friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit, you will be seeing us again.

Sorry but got to say it as it is.the food was crap under cooked we had mixgrill the burgers were not cooked well as I say it was still mooing full of blood gamon was full of water and a bone for a lamb chop never going there again .it wasn't only mine there was others who were on other tables complaining as well .PLEASE FOR HEATH AND SAFTEY DO MOT EAT HERE

Popped in after work tonight with a friend and work colleague who has had a bad experience of the Caraway in the past. As an occasional visitor myself, I could see the vast improvement that has been made in service, cleanliness and food quality. Although not too busy, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming with great service by Gareth. And as for the food, we had 2 burgers for £10 and was they were absolutely delicious cooked by Martyn. Well definitely be returning soon.

Food was lovely excellent service didn't wait long for the food to arrive. Staff were very friendly would definitely go back there again.

Shocking service, portions are terrible for the price,items ordered was not as they were on the menu, coffee cold, chips undercooked

Disappointing experience. Food took ages about 45 minutes. Mega curry had one bahji/one samosa, no mint yoghurt/ no Mango chutney, and two greasy poppadoms. I had to ask twice for the dips and only got one. The initial waiter said he would bring them never to seen again. I know it's a small matter but these items make the meal or they won't be there in the package. When a menu gives you specific amount and accompanying items it should come at the beginning of meal and be complete. If the was not possible a simple explanation would have been sufficient. Finally a very decent member of staff checked, and gave a refund for my meal. I don't set out to get refunds or discounts I want what I pay for so I can enjoy the meal. However I do appreciate the gesture.

Took my mum and son here for a meal. We found Alex and his team really pleasant and attentive. Food was excellent and the service just as good.

We called in for Sunday lunch whilst in the area. The pub was clean and tidy and the staff whilst busy were friendly. The food was delicious and very good value for money. I will definately call in again and recommend.

We visited this place as we'd been further in West Wales,and needed somewhere for food. As soon as we walked in we had a lovely welcome from the lady behind the bar!our food was delicious and hot...would recommend

on holiday and didn't know what to do for dinner so ended up at the Caraway, i had grilled fish with salad and veg, hubby had sausage & mash, waiter and bar staff were very friendly and helpful, food was serve in a fair time and was hot.

I went to the Caraway on Sunday 16th February with a friend and my two young kids. We were served after not long and received our food after not looking too. So far so good, but then were unable to get anything else to drink as the so called manager seemed incredibly incompetent at serving. See the picture. There was no other staff to help him. They lost revenue and customers that day. Silly.

Popped in tonight with my daughter. We noticed a very large group in so expected to wait a while for our food and were told the wait time would be roughly an hour but we had it brought to us in less than half an hour and was very nice. Thank you to the 2 chefs, Ben & Martin (I think they are the names I was given) and despite the shocking reviews we have read of late, the atmosphere was great, the staff (if I remember rightly Megan, kerry or Cerys and Ben?) were very friendly and helpful. Everyone seemed happy and food was coming out at a steady pace.

As always wonderful service from lady behind bar. An good food. Was told there would be a wait on food bit it came out very quick.

We were looking forward to this as menu looked good, placed our orders and waited. And waited. And waited some more. After about 45 minutes we've asked about our order and we're told it wasn't even placed! There was no apology or trying to rectify the situation. Really poor customer service and it wasn't even busy!!

the manager C.King took our order at the bar and this should have been our first warning as it took him almost 10 minutes of dithering to pour 2 lemonades.

Returned to this pub after its slight refurb and new managrment stiped coming here before because three times visited food arrived not completely what i order and no metion from staff on alternative this time i was hope it would be better but apparently not orderd a steak all you could taste was the 100s pf char grilled itemes before it portions were not great so know not to return here tried a pudding looked lovely in the picture but when it arrive it came as a self build pudding also with bits missing and no explanation as why or apology if they had run out waitress wizzed by and asjed without stopping if all was ok sorry bit im not in the habit to chase them to say no its a shame really as this could be a lovely place but im afraid they have seen the last of me

We used to come to Caraway on a regular basis. Sadly the service and food went down. Such a shame as it was a lovely place. It has now been refurbished and I persuaded my husband to take me there to give it another go. We ordered our food and waited. It wasnt very busy so we estimated we would be served pretty quick. We waited and Waited.... A couple that came in after us were then served before us!. I called a young man over and said the couple had been served before us. He went to the kitchen and brought our food out. It had obviously been standing around for a while as it was lukewarm. We did decide to try a Baileys waffle. Photo and write up stated waffle covered with chocolate ice cream topped with cream and sprinkled with flake chocolate and chocolate sauce drizzled over. Ours arrived. One bare waffle, two scoops of choc ice cream on plate plus cream on plate. Chocolate flake nowhere to be seen!! Built our own waffle...... SADLY WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!!!.....

Absolutely disgusting service, Chris king calls himself a manager, he cant manage to work the till properly, plus he needs sort some of his staff out. Very rude and unprofessional.

Very poor service from this chain a food place of this size run on TWO staff from the amount of time the bar left unattended to the 90min food wait and then when the severely over priced pizza did come which we had to put in a takeaway box because of the time factor taken And to our shock it didn’t even fill 50% of the box very disappointing in every aspect

Visited lunchtime Saturday. Been here many many times over the years but recently something seems to be going awry here.

Me and my partner visited the Caraway tonight for the first time, and it was brilliant! We were served by the general manager Chris who was amazing! So friendly and polite! Even considering they were a little low on staff the service was fast. Would definitely recommend visiting the Caraway! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit:)!!!

Booked for a table of 20 for a local club. Only ONE person on the bar taking orders for food and drink for the entire place so service took forever. Food was distinctly average. Two meals were returned (desperately fatty steak, and beige, crunchy salmon - how the hell does anyone make salmon that bad??!) . The person who sent the steak back received a lecture on how rib eye is supposed to be marbled with fat. Well thanks yes it is... it is not, however, supposed to closely resemble the result of a prolonged liposuction session! We won’t be back. Even the two for one meal offer doesn’t make it worthwhile.

Obviously either understaffed or between shifts. We popped in for an early dinner before an evening at the theatre. Service was so slow, we thought we'd have to walk out before being served. When we finally got our meals my steak & chips were cold but my husband's meal was warm. Mine had obviously been left to stand whilst the other was prepared. No time to send them back, as we were seriously tight for time after waiting for 50 mins. Tables were left uncleared & sticky. Our table was sticky and I had to take cutlery from another table. Not a recommendation from me I'm afraid

Decided to give this place a try, big mistake!!!! The bar man was the slowest person in the world! Waiting a good 40mins for food and it wasn’t even that busy!! We both had a beef roast. When it eventually came out it was shocking!! The beef was not edable.. there was so much fat on it you couldn’t even cut through it.. the mash was like packed mash, the carrots were shocking!! Every little thing about it was horrific!! The gravy was so watery didn’t even taste like gravy! When the waitress was serving the people next to us she noticed I wasn’t happy and asked if everything was ok.. so I told her it wasn’t and the meat was un edable.. her reply was oh sorry there’s nothing I can do about that it’s our retailers! And then walked off!! Great customer service!! NOT!! Do not bother wasting your money or fuel or time coming here!! Disappointed is an understatement!!

First time going there and definitely the last. Waited an hour for food. Don’t come here seriously there was three staff in the whole building. One woman had to Lock up her pub just to help out. Please don’t come here

Literally one of the worst places I have ever eaten. Lunch time, one person behind the bar who happened to be the slowest person ever!! Twenty minutes to just get served. Ordered the steak and onion melt. Description says “served on a baguette with tortilla chips and a dressed mixed leaf garnish”. Please have a look at my pictures to see how shocking this food was. Had it arrived before I paid I would have walked out! Never again!

Had Liver,Bacon and onions and it was so bitter it was inedible, walked out in disgust, Not the first time either the quality of food is either very good or very poor. Very inconsistant

Can't blame the staff - but two on the bar, lunchtime on a Saturday? Come on!

Evening meal we got to the place plenty of parking space nice welcome plenty of choice & 2 for 1 meal which I thought was good value the food came out promptly & nice hot & tasty , the food was good value for money but the drinks were more expensive than I thought medium glass rose wine £5.25 & pint of dark fruit strong bow £4.75. Otherwise nice evening

The caraway is not a bad pub for food and drink. The price for food is good. Nia ( barmaid) is very efficient, kind and helpful. The pub was very good last year(2019) but since new manager Chris has arrived the pub has gone downhill. Service is slow. Food not cooked great and the atmosphere is like a morgue. Bring back Anna. She was awesome in every way .
