Really nice pub with good food, Dog friendly which is a must. 27.11.2019 I've just been informed that you might have blocked the doves from their home? Can you confirm as I could not understand why a respected business would be cruel in this way. These birds are protected.

Well looked after, great menu, busy atmosphere

Food was delicious! Garlic and cheese mushrooms- STUNNING! I had seabass, very well presented and tasted amazing. Sauce was out of this world! My partner had halloumi fries (amazing!) And a steak- yummy! (Yes I did try ALL of the food whether mine or not!) I would rate 5 stars but there was quite a wait on food- we waited 45 min and it was a relatively quiet Monday. We will definitely return :)

I came here in 1991 and can thoroughly recommend.

Very pretty location. Food was very tasty, just not very warm unfortunately. The table hadn't been cleaned properly and was sticky from previous seating, but the server cleaned it with no issue. Would go back. Rated atmosphere lower, as I was on my own.

Excellent as always. The staff are mega friendly, the service is top notch and the atmosphere superb. Although I rarely eat there the food also looks fab. I cant fault it in any way.

On the evening of Monday 9th September 2024 - a close friend & me visited this establishment for the first time. I was greatly impressed. For, people without a vehicle it's dangerous due to a very tight country lane to access the establishment from the main road. Yet at times, no pavement exists on the meantioned country lane. Ask, the venue BEFORE attending if any alternative routes for pedestrians exist to the business away from that specific country lane. If, you DO have a vehicle pay attention to that tight Country Lane leading to the Car Park of the business sections of it have the potential of creating road traffic accidents.

Long wait after ordering and when food finally arrived, numerous dishes were found to be overcooked. Unfortunately fell short of our expectation and difficult to justify a repeat.

Lovely staff even though it was a mega busy bank holiday

Lovely pub, bar service was slow. Food is reasonable. But drinks are very expensive. Paid £21 for 4 pints of lemonade and 2 fruits shoots. Which I think is salty to say the least.

Nice atmosphere great service from Tegan

We visited as a group of five on a busy bank holiday and sat in the dog friendly area. We were greeted straight away by Lloyd who took us to our table and informed us on who the would be looked after. The food was cooked to perfection as always. Can not recommend more highly.

My wife and I had lunch at the Captain's Wife. My wife had the Sea Bass and I had the lamb, both were very good. We were served by Tegan who was very busy but still managed to be very attentive. We have no complaints, so will definitely eating here again. Thank you very much.

Lovely restaurant, the food is good and the atmosphere feels cozy

Disappointed that after speaking to staff about the menu, taking a photo of it and saying that I was enticing my family to drive over for lunch, I was told on their arrival that they were now fully booked. Zero mention of the need to book or any such recommendation when I was chatting to them and absolutely disinterest and indifference when my family arrived. A waste of a journey and poor service all round. Update - I appreciate the response and I also appreciate the context. But some forethought when I was first chatting and some empathy when we spoke later would have gone a long way.

I have visited several times with my son whom is a resident at a local special needs residence. The staff and friendly and welcoming food always fantastic and was lovely to sit outside today under the covered area and enjoy our food and drinks. Have to also mention the staff are always on hand to help my son when he visits with his care staff. Highly recommend the signature burger. Big thank you to Jack who always manages to accommodate for us and very pleasant too.

Decided to detour from Cardiff as we had a £10. Voucher to use. Euro parking in car park now…need to enter reg in bar. Place very run down now with plaster coming off the walls and the stuffing falling out of the chair I was using. Food was ok but they wouldn’t accept the voucher as it had to be at least 6 hours old 😡 nice location but need updating . A lot of choices not available from the menu.

Rice with chicken curry was very wet and under cooked. The kids burger was hard as a rock- clearly already cooked and reheated. This place used to be something special. Its sad to see it take such a dive.

Sat outside today for 2 hrs surrounded by dirty tables, which wern't cleaned for the entire duration. seagulls eating off the table, enjoying the food more than I did. I've eaten here a number of times and not had an issue. Short staffed or no management I guess. Big let down today.

Great setting for drink or something to eat. Lovely food on Tuesday afternoon after a great day out at the ICCW for my son's graduation.

Decided to try the place after not visiting for years as was told it was under new ownership. We queued for over 10 minutes just to get a drink, only to be told we needed a table number to order food. We found a vacant table but were then moved on & told that unless we'd booked by telephone that we couldn't order food due to staffing issues. It was a Fri night & very busy but really poor first impression & won't be rushing to go back. Missed opportunity by Vintage Inns!

Such a lovely setting and amazing food. Great service.

Visited on a Thursday evening. I had fish, which was cooked perfectly. The tast was lovely and the batter was light. I asked if I could swap the chunky chips for fries. When the food came the plate was full of the most tasty fries. My wife had a burger which was also perfect. Good value tasty food and a good atmosphere, that's all you can ask for. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.Will be returning.

Lovely place. Ellis is very friendly and knowledgeable. He really went out of his way to welcome us. Always ask him about his story of the time he was on a rowing boat and the ice cream incident!! Very funny.

Food was good but didn't get everything same time, the service needed to be organised in a better way.

Lovely place and excellent service from Ellis, always happy and we had a lovely chat about our collection of shoes while we waited for our food. Now on a hunt for fish flip flops for myself. Overall would definitely recommend to a friend and will be returning soon

The Captain’s Wife is the best pub in the Penarth/Sully area! Ellis was especially great and his service was exceptional! I would highly recommend this pub following our experience with them! Great food and wine

I had an exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day, the staff where amazing and we were warmly welcomed by Ellis.

Fantastic Sunday roast lunch, great quality, very generous portions (had to take some home!) and excellent value for money. We love the location by the sea with the option to walk to Sully Island, as well as the pub's great atmosphere and setting. Really friendly staff, always willing to help and we really appreciated they could provide us with a "tub" to take some of the leftowvers home and not waste food!

Leanne was an absolute super star. On a very busy Sunday afternoon service. She went out of her way to make sure we were looked after. Would recommend, especially if Leanne is on shift 😘

Visited on Saturday for lunch and was disappointed with the food. When I tried to explain to a member of staff, they were not interested and very defensive. No personal care where somebody asks if your meal was ok. Used to be such a lovely place to go to.

Visited here tonight and the food was absolutely gorgeous. A big shout out to Leanne who served us for being so helpful and polite. Will be visiting again :)

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here! The pub was completely full, but they managed to accommodate us. Staff were friendly and helpful, and all the food we had was very tasty. Their vegan menu was particularly good - we even ended up getting seconds of everything! Would definitely recommend, great for a family get together, caters to everyone.

Staff were lovely. Very chatty and nothing was no bother. I love visiting the Captains Wife, the location and food are top marks. And the apple and blackberry crumble is awesome.

Second time visiting and just as good as the first. Food is always incredible, great options and portion sizes while still being delicious. Johanna was our server and she was so lovely and welcoming to us. Will definitely be back again.

Very helpful staff that were kind to move us to a quieter area when our section got loud.

Terrible service, passable food. It's basically a wetherapoons at premium prices. As an example, ordered the chicken burger (crispy buttermilk) what the waiter brought (45 minutes later) was a grilled chicken burger. When they apologised for the mistake they said the normal chicken burger had been put through on the till but there is only one chicken burger on the menu and that's the crispy one! We had to find our own cutlery and napkins aswell. Only 1 ale available which was a dispointment for a Saturday.

A really lovely location, great views and the building was gorgeous. Service was pleasant, and timely. We had the weekday lunch special, 2 courses for £16.50. Very generous portions and extremely tasty. The only minor downside was £5.95 for a shandy. Lager was a dash and mostly lemonade. So nearly 6 quid for mostly lemonade we thought a bit steep. Would definitely return.

We have eaten here for a few years and the food has gradually gone downhill. After this last visit we vowed not to eat here again, but will still come for drinks occasionally. Food was overcooked (steaks) and the meat quality was poor (fat and gristle riddled through the steak) food has turned up cold before and on this occasion we waited for 90 minutes for our meal. The loyalty scheme was what kept us returning and on this occasion the kind offer of free Prosecco with our meal a gift from my recent birthday. Unfortunately the standard of food is not good enough now to make us want to return.

Really good food right on the beach, plenty of parking.

Too expensive, this place is so busy that it will always have customers, however it charges far more than most pubs, bars and restaurants in the area. Need to be better at serving and recognising who is next to be served at the bar

Bar was slow, even though there was plenty of staff on, but did look like they were just concerned about food getting out to orders. But if you wanted just a drink waiting was poor.

As always, great service and delicious food. Sunday roast is great value for money as large portions given. Busy but staff always on hand to assist with anything given we had a large table for a birthday.

Expensive for what was a pretty tasteless meal. £15 for fish cakes, without any detectable fish. £10 for child’s pizza.

Vintage inn use to be really good food use to go regularly then it just went downhill maybe the last 6 months so we stopped going so we were on holiday here thought we would try it just worse than ever been to ones all over all the same in future will just be having a drink .

Lovely pub and we all enjoyed the delicious food. Our waitress Johanna was very lovely and so efficient despite being run off her feet because it was very busy bank holiday. The pub is child friendly and we found parking quickly. We will definitely return! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Slow service as otway full food was pub fare bang on normal nothing to write home about , it was also a normal pub atmosphere to boot.

We came here for a birthday meal and the food was very delicious and didn’t take long to come out with all 6 of us eating. The staff were very polite and went out of their way to give us a welcoming atmosphere, and the atmosphere was lovely and kind towards our dog! Definitely won’t be the last time we come here!
