Lovely pub in a beautiful location, well worth a visit if in the area. We popped in for a quick pint whilst passing. Part of the vintage inn group. Lovely view of sully island and also the Bristol Channel. The staff I found friendly and polite. Many thanks !

We’ve been on numerous occasions in the past and always had great service and a really good meal. This occasion was disappointing, and in the futureI think we will go elsewhere. Firstly, there was no one to greet us at the door and the sign said to go to the bar, Despite there being several people around, no one seemed to acknowledge us. After waiting for a few minutes, I approached the barman but was shut down as he was preparing a drink order for someone else and didn’t have a moment to discuss our booking. The food was ok but expensive for what it was, I had the rib beef bourbon which had a thick layer of fat and was generally tough to cut (could have used a steak knife) which isn’t what I would have expected. The lady that served us was nice and attentive but outside of this it was a negative experience. £70 for two adult meals, and a kids meal (non alcoholic drinks).

Went for Monday night dinner and the lady who served us was so lovely!

What a lovely pub, beautiful setting, friendly staff and the food was amazing. Definitely going back next time I’m in South Wales

When visiting the captains wife, Swanbridge we were seated at the far west end of the restaurant, there was a very unpleasant smell from the toilets and also the wall the table was adjacent to was mouldy with flaking paint, not a very nice area to be serving food. We asked to be moved and were given a better seat in the middle of the restaurant (smell free). Food and service was good and would visit again making a point to avoid the west end of the building. Attention required in the way of cleanliness in that area of the building.

Came here for Mother’s Day, service & food was amazing! Food was delicious & hot. Service was amazing as always by Leanne.

We attended the Captains wife today Mother's day. The service from the young waiter was Mike. He did a fantastic job of looking after us. We would have given him a tip but we had to cash on us. But he was very attractive. Thank you Mike

We’ve been coming to the Captains wife for many years and the food is always beautiful. We recently came for Mother’s Day and had a lovely meal. The only drawback we had was the lack of child friendly resources, colouring paper on the back of the menu but no colours provided, they forgot my daughters starter and the dessert plate was impossible for a child to eat from! Otherwise service was lovely, food impeccable as always

Very poor experience for my Birthday meal. Excellent service but the food was poor. Probably the worst calamari I've ever had and the fish cakes might well have been made from concrete.

Very disappointed when we came here yesterday to find out you no longer do sirloin steak with beef dripping gravy,and not even gammon on the menu any more. Won't be coming again unless they are put back,its a lovely place and been many times

Called in on speck for Dinner on way home, was very busy and directed to bar area for food so ordered at bar. Skewers and fish cake not available so had classic fish and chips. Service slow, battered fish very greasy and overcooked, chips left under hob too long and dry and hard. Not the best day I have had in an M&B vintage Inn sadly

Went for lunch, friendly welcome, very slow service. Limited choice from lunch menu, as they had run out of 3 of the meals. Only 2 staff on duty so they were very busy, but friendly.. definitely won't be returning for a while.

We booked as a large family group to celebrate my Mum's 88th birthday. The food was great, the Sunday roasts were exceptional with lots of extra veg and gravy. The service was excellent. Our server, Leanne, realised it was a birthday meal and arranged for Mum's dessert to be served on a big board with Happy birthday written in chocolate and led a chorus of 'Happy birthday to you'. It was so kind and made Mum's day.

We visited The Captains Wife this evening for a birthday. The food was lovely and thoroughly enjoyed. But what stood out the most was the outstanding service we received from Mike. He was warm and welcoming, knew the menu, was able to answer questions confidently. Served the food in a timely and friendly manner. He checked on us and regularly took drinks orders. What a beautiful pub set in a beautiful location. The staff were very polite and welcoming and the food was perfect. Very reasonably priced as well. Just one small negative comment, I think the gents toilet requires some TLC.

Highly disappointing and expensive skewers - £19.95 for the first one, £8.95 for a second. Unfortunately, both the Lamb and Prawn skewers I had were overcooked (not ‘tender pieces of lamb’ as advertised) and tough to eat. The pub atmosphere itself was pleasant enough, the staff were attentive, but the external decor is in need of improvement (eg plaster cracking and a broken old cupboard just left outside the entrance) and it was cold throughout the whole of the interior. We sat next to the lit fireplace but as it hadn’t been fully lit it didn’t provide that much warmth. The potential for this place is huge…imagine a roaring fireplace in a nicely decorated pub with reasonable-priced and well-cooked food; as it’s right on the coast people would be queuing out the door! Sadly we could see why this was not the case. C’mon Vintage Inns, up your game and make this pub the same high standard of most of your others!

We felt unwelcome by both the female staff on entering the pub , won't be visiting again, one other thing ,the tables weren't cleared of dishes etc after some diners had left for over an hour .

1st time eating here and i have to say everything was brilliant, the food was beautiful (my only complaint would be the base of the pizza was very thin and therefore a little burnt). Other than that, my beef bourguignon was absolutely perfect and cooked beautifully. The duck pizza (other than the base) was amazing. Price were from £17-£30 for a meal. But it's definitely worth the price. Beautiful location being right onto a beach. All of the staff were lovley. Overall, it is definitely worth a visit.

Great location and cosy atmosphere. Nice touch that you can bring your dog inside also and snacks provided for your fury friend. Food is nice but a bit over priced we felt for the amount of food you get. Service was good although a little slow at the start to take food order. Lovely views of the sea and sully point and you can have a walk on the beach.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch here today. The food was amazing and the service by Johanna was efficient and welcoming. There was such a lovely choice on offer, including options for my veggie husband. We hope to visit again soon!

The area I chose was the dog area, but I don’t have a dog, but think it’s the nicest area. Lucky for us there was no one in that area and it was lovely and warm on such a cold windy night. Although my favourite meal was not available, nor my 2nd choice, my 3rd choice tasted very nice. My husband was delighted, that we were told that the steak was half price, so he chose that and was very pleased with it, as it was cooked how he had asked for it.

Johanna served us super professionally and politely, was super helpful. I had the hunters chicken and my partner had pie of the day, both were delicious.

Had a fantastic meal at The Captain’s Wife recently! The service from Johanna was absolutely exceptional – she was so kind, attentive, and made us feel incredibly welcome. It’s rare to come across someone who truly goes above and beyond, but she did just that! The food was great, both in quality and presentation. Even better, the mains were reasonably priced, especially with the 50% discount. It was an all-around wonderful experience, and I’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

Easy parking and really nice traditional pub feeling including roaring fire. Situated right by the River Severn with fantastic views over the estuary. Very helpful and friendly service. Plenty of tables (mostly occupied). We all had superb meals from an extremely wide menu of inticing dishes. Excellent coffee to follow. Can't wait to return.

Myself, my sister and her friend came to the Captains wife for lunch to celebrate my sisters birthday. We started off with a bottle of Prosecco after being seated to our booked table, prosecco was brought to our table along with glasses with strawberries. We then had our orders taken by Lou (name on receipt) who was very polite & prompt with taking our orders and bringing our drinks to us. Food didn’t take long to arrive and was absolutely gorgeous! Lou then took our dessert order which when they came had a lovely surprise added for my sister with a “happy birthday” message added to her plate by the staff solely at their own discretion which made my sisters day. She absolutely loved it. Overall our visit was fantastic and we can’t wait to come again.

It was well worth a visit today to the Captains Wife in Sully for Lunch. The surroundings and menu were excellent and the food very tasty and well presented. The drinks glasses were sparkling! Always a good sign! Lloyd who looked after us today was lovely. He was good at his job and made us feel very welcome. We are planning to return soon.

Welcoming, efficient, good food

3 of us went today for a family lunch. It was busy but not overly so. It took 2 hours for us to consume a 2 course meal. It took 20 minutes from ordering our drinks for them to arrive, starters were all nice but they had run out of many options on the menu, the vegetarian choice was tiny and when, eventually, the mains arrived they were luke warm at best. We ate because we were ravenous by that point. Overall, very disappointed.

It's changed over the years but still a good place to go for a cosy atmosphere and good food.

Suprise 30th birthday party. Food was excellent quality and plenty of it. The staff were both very friendly and helpful, making sure it was a great evening. Would definitely recommend as one of the best in Cardiff.

Hi, after visiting you for a lovely tea we decided to bring our granddaughter for Sunday lunch. The food looked lovely but was cold. Childrens menu needs to be looked at as our 4year old was given an adult meal when we specifically ordered from the children's menu. Staff were attentative and atmosphere pleasant.

Lovely food and a fine bar selection in relaxed atmosphere. Great for mid week lunch escapes as quite quiet; weekends, particularly in high season, can get busy. Plenty of parking and good views out over the channel (nice that the 'beach' is being cleared too). Outdoor seating is nice in the summer, if a touch breezy being on the coast, and there's a children's play area. Dog friendly bar dining area too; bonus points :) Fireplace isn't just for show; it's a lovely live feature in the colder months and is fabulously festive around Santa Time. Our latest visit was particularly lush; a last minute Sunday lunch booking to lead us into the madness of the season (December '24). The steak and venison pie comes highly recommend, as does the bramley apple and mince pie crumble! Bit full now though... We were looked after very nicely thank you by our host Katy, and we'll probably be back for more soon. NB. Car reg needs poking into the tablet by the door on entry, to appease the parking gods.

I've been a regular diner at The Captain's Wife for years, but last night's experience was incredibly disappointing. I paid nearly £17 for fish and chips, only to be served a plate with no more than 13 chips, and they were barely warm. There's been a strong downward trend with this place over the last year.

Service was dreadful. Our waiter wore dirty black jeans & trainers. He just dumped a pile of cutlery on the table & when he brought the wine to the table he just put it in the middle unopened & really couldn’t care less. The starters were small & not worth the money but the main courses were ok.
