I was excited to come here with friends and colleagues. It's a place I've passed many times. However, I was very disappointed with the food. Very few of the items were listed as coming with any vegetables at all (the scampi and peas were pretty much the only ones) - so I asked about the chicken curry - what sort of curry was it? I was told "It's just a mild curry with chicken." When it came, it was just that: plain white rice, chicken, and some kind of grey-cream curry sauce on top. There were no vegetables or visible spice at all, and it tasted of very little. Not worth the money I spent at all.

Whilst I appreciate the hospitality industry really has suffered and needs to recover, this was total rip off. Unlike their current advertised website menu where a burger came with chips and trimmings, my burger literally came on a side plate and nothing else. Poor quality burger and soft baps from a supermarket with bacon and cremated egg all extra . With a meagre bowl of chips and couple of onion rings came to nearly £15.00 Very average jacket potato with chilli con carne just poured over it, again no garnish or anything despite asking.. and also over priced as well as the drinks. Always happy to pay top dollar for quality but resent paying a premium price for such poor quality produce.

Food not as described on website. Pints overpriced. No salad. No chips with a burger. Burger 8.50 plus extra for cheese bacon egg plus another 2.50 for chips and £2 for a couple of onion rings. Small jacket for £7 again no salad. Burger served on a side plate. Burger worse than one from Iceland. Manager didn’t care about service or to ask if things were ok. 38£ for rubbish one course and 2 drinks. Will not visit again. They want to charge max price for poor quality. Greenstone and spoons just up the road half the price for twice the quality.

It was Sunday and due to the covid restrictions there could be no Sunday lunch as we used to know it, but we did have meals from the specials board. I had an excellent pork and stilton pie with good crunchy chips, my fiancé had the hunters chicken which was also excellent. The service was quick and friendly and the value for money top notch. The hospitality business is currently struggling with the covid crisis and the latest restrictions and I wish this owner well. We will certainly return when we are passing again. .

We used to be regulars but most have left and the place was empty when we reqcently visited. All the old pictures have been removed and the place lacks atmosphere. Added to that we felt cold as the heating was barely on. We ordered a bar snack that took ages to arrived and unassuming. Sadly gone downhill under the current landlord.

It is sad when a place falls from what you remember to be something you hate. We liked the old Canary & Linnet with it's big menu, outside benches and good value. This is why we stopped for lunch. My wife had ham, eggs and chips from the very limited menu. I had game pie, chips and peas. After a protracted wait for 2 relatively simple dishes they appeared. The pie was meat, potatoes, peas and a very thin and watery gravy with a flaky pastry lid modelled on a cumulo nimbus cloud, ie a foot thick, the peas and chips were skulking in it's shadow. The pastry tasted burnt on top. The meat was supposedly game, possibly ludo, maybe monopoly. Whatever it was it was cooked for so long it had the same taste s the gravy. The peas were cold, but not overcooked which is a blessing. Unlike the chips which were hot and well over done. My wife ordered her choice based on the somewhat erroneous assumption that ham, egg and chips would involve gammon. Instead she was presented with what appeared to be and probably was, given it's appearance, taste and texture something from the basics line of sliced ham from the Tescos in Dereham. The eggs were about the size of something from Haribo, fried and were like my peas, cold, but for variety they were overcooked. This was not cheap, £10 for the pie, £9 for the ham, it was not good, it was not value for money. We won't be going back.

We visited this evening only 2 days before Christmas, and were worried we wouldn't be able to get in as we hadn't booked. We didn't need to worry as the staff were extremely accommodating and the place had a lovely festive and welcoming atmosphere. The food was lovely and we could not fault the service. We very much enjoyed ourselves, thank you.

We decided to go out for a meal at very short notice and we decided on the Canary & Linnet. We booked our table with ease and arrived 30 minutes later. We were met with a lovely warm welcome. We were asked where we would like to sit and we choose the bar area. They are currently only using their Christmas menu, which was perfect for us. We both went for the 3 course. We order a drink while we waited for our food. The food arrived promptly and was lovely and hot. Our starters were extremely tasty. Our main course arrived shortly after and again was hot. We both choose the beef and it was cooked to perfection, in fact the entire meal was cooked to perfection. We are just waiting for our desert but if it’s anything like our first 2 courses I know it will be exemplary. The service here is exemplary and is well worth a visit. Hot well cooked tasty food and quick service. If you are passing through the area, it’s on the A47, I highly recommend that you stop off and have something to eat and drink.

Friendly bar staff allowed us to bring our dog inside to sit under the table while we ate lunch. The chili was good as was the steak pie. Washed down with a couple of pints this made for a relaxing lunch. There is a very large dining room out the back of the place, so i assume it gets busy in the summer. Plenty of outside seating and a decent car park make this a convenient place for a meal.

Well, what a lovely surprise! If you have visited before, you must try it now the new owners are fully operational. Lots of work has been done to make it very welcoming and fresh and clean looking. The menu is completely new and makes you want to go back to try another lovely thing on the list. Prices are very reasonable and a meal for Four with 2 rounds of drinks and 3 courses for 2 people was very reasonable. Well worth a visit now.

On Thursday, 19th September 2019, I attended the above establishment with my wife and two friends. We were greeted in a congenial fashion but on entering we perceived that the car park and pub were virtually deserted. Undeterred we ordered drinks and alarm bells started to sound when only one beer was available. The meals were ordered and were subsequently delivered but the presentation of the food was a disaster. The food taste was even worse with the only truly edible items being the chips. The desert menu was almost non-existent. All in all the meal was barely edible being and I would not recommend this establishment to anyone - avoid like the "plague". I shall never attend again!

Having previously visited this eatery with a group of friends, whilst looking for somewhere to have Sunday lunch, this seemed like a good idea.We should have realised things had changed by the fact there were few cars in the car park. Plus a large sign that said 'open'!When we went in there was only one other couple in there. The menu came to us, no Sunday roast! My husband asked about the pie of the day, which he didn't like so ordered an all day breakfast. After along wait our drinks came. Then the waitress came to say they did have steak & ale pie. So he changed his order to this. 5 minutes later she returned again to say they were sorry they didn't have any.At this point we got up and walked out. It's gone back to seedy, obviously the locals have voted with their feet. We came home and I cooked our roast. Can't really vote on the food, as we didn't eat any, however the table beside us were having something that looked like a greasy spoon production.Oh yes, and we were told they were going to start serving roasts next week!

Poor over-priced food served here. Beef lasagne mostly sauce with little meat content and halved cherry tomatoes on top of greasy melted cheese The beer was cloudy and undrinkable so returned to the bar and the lemonade for the white wine spritzer was flat. Always picked here as a half way meeting point food always good value and friendly. NOT now. 3 jacket potatoes ordered and the chilli looked like it had been scrapped out the side of a bowl and very little provided and no side salad. Better chilli brought out and side salad provided between 3 and not charged. Table had old food stuck to it. £5 was knocked off our bill and lady said it would be dealt. Long wait after ordering food and we were all very hungry by the time it arrived. The garlic bread had not been toasted or cooked and just had garlic butter poured over it and was cold. 4 of us had lasagne and there was no consistency in appearance. No colouration on the cheese topping although one was burnt at the bottom. Our 5th member had the scampi with mushy peas. There were no peas in it and it resembled soup, so even if she had wanted to eat it it would have been impossible with a fork. She was not offered different peas even though the waitress admitted that they had a problem with the mushy peas.

Amazing food on all 3 of my recent visits. The food is cooked by the landlady and is of a very high standard. Very friendly atmosphere and large portions so nobody will ever go home hungry. The only down side is it’s not a 7 day a week restaurant and it’s difficult to determine from social media when they are actually serving food so a phone call to check is advised as it can be hit and miss and we’ve been disappointed a few times. But when you get there you will certainly not be disappointed.

I booked the C & L mainly because of its location as we live in Norwich and our friends in Kings Lynn. The recent reviews and the small but varied menu were also very encouraging. We were welcomed by a very pleasant gentleman and made to feel welcome. Our orders were taken and as we had a dog, we were shown to the bar rather than the restaurant which we were more than happy with. The food and service were excellent and the Gluten Free options made available for one of our party, were varied and interesting. Overall a surprisingly pleasant experience. These relatively new owners deserve to do well. For those folks like me who have passed by hundreds of times on the A47 take a break give them a try you will not be disappointed!!

The food was simply fantastic all freshly cooked and generous portions and at a great price ( Try the steak and ale pie, the best I've had in a long time by far), the staff were friendly and it was table service which was a nice touch in a pub. They have also started to redecorate getting rid of the hideous red paint, so it looks much more modern, much brighter and classier. The waiting staff are lovely and very friendly. We often struggle when it comes to menu choices as our daughter is coeliac and a fussy eater but we needn't have worried in the slightest as there was a lot on the menu she could choose from that was gluten free.We spoke to one of the owners who was extremely knowledgeable about food allergens such as being coeliac which gave a great reassurance that whatever we chose would be suitable. The food was fresh, plentiful and extremely tasty and I can highly recommend the Trio of Pork and the Fish and Chips and the Gluten Free Cheesecake was very well received by my daughter. We all cleared our plates. We had a brilliant meal here and will definitely be back and we have told all our friends just how good this place is. We're local and wish we'd tried here sooner as this has to be one of the best place we've ever eaten. We will certainly be taking all our visitors here in the future so please don't change a thing as you are totally fabulous and we'd love you to stay that way. :-)

A vast improvement since the last disaster of tenants were running the pub, but still lacks a certain something. The landlady and land lord are very pleasant and are really trying to turn things around, we have been a few times, the food is generally good but the menu tends to be the same week in week out. Still needs a real makeover looking tired and worn out.

Mum and I passed here on our way home from being on holiday travelling back to Coventry, we called in spontaneously. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed our lunch very much. We sat in the conservatory part and thought it was a lovely venue. Thank you.

The new owners are doing a fantastic job since they have taken over the management of the pub. We had a really nice meal, service was quick. Portion sizes are generous, but that means we do not have room to try the desserts. If you have not been in since they took over, please give it a try. 1000% better than it was.

We read the recent reviews and decided we would go for Sunday lunch. Turning up at 12.10 we thought we'd get a table and we were first but nearly all the other tables were reserved and quickly filled up, deservedly so. We both opted for beef and pork Sunday lunch with roasties and veg. Ask for extra gravy and eat it with a spoon, it's that good. For pudding we had apple pie with custard and chocolate cheesecake, both really good. Beers were Brakspeare, On the huh and Moongazer, all to be recommended. Staff were all excellent and there is a large garden area. We'll be back, so improved from previous occupiers.

Extensive menu board, very reasonable prices. being a hot day, I chose avocado and mozzarella salad.and my, what a salad.no great amount of lettuce to fool you into thinking that you have a huge salad! .just the right amount, whole avocado, toms, cucumber, onion, yellow and red peppers, onion and the home made coleslaw was to die for.all decorated with mozzarella. Drizzled with dressing.Very well presented and colourful.Best salad I have tasted while away from home, will be back.!

The welcome you receive at The Canary and Linnet is akin to being greeted like family and very close friends. It is a pub which is so much more than warm and welcoming. It is second to none that I have ever received as a new comer to a pub. Even our Airedale was welcomed and made a fuss of.The menu offers a delightful array of salivating enticements which force you to make changing decisions about what you want, the more you read! When you have finally chosen, the food is so good and so plentiful that, despite being stuffed full, we vowed to return the same evening to eat there again! We weren't disappointed! It was fantastic - again! we only wish that we were staying in the area for more than just 24 hours (although perhaps our waistlines are better for not staying longer!) The drink on offer is also a wide variety of well known and local beverages which, together with the delicious menu and the welcoming greetings, make this a firm favourite of ours and one we will continue to return to time and time again.

yes its still the same tatty red walls but its early days and these things take time. The new Management is friendly and very helpful. Half meal sizes are available for smaller appetites. Good choice of food at Norfolk prices. wonderful gardens and dog friendly if you wish to eat in the bar area. plenty of car parking.Opening times need to be checked as there is no food on Monday and restricted lunch times. At the moment it is all new to them and with good meals and good beer they should do well. Even a "doggy box " if you want to take what you cant eat then home. We had one each time as the portions where too much for us. Well worth a visit.

we were staying locally and just happened to notice it by chance, as it is set back from the road quite a bit. This pub had a large garden and it allows dogs in the bar area.although the pub looks a bit sad, the staff are extremely welcoming. A great vegetarian menu. my husband had veggie lasagne and I had the tagine. Both were really high quality, hot and plentiful. We did not have room for dessert which we really quite fancied.I wish Mark and his wife much success

Popped in for lunch with some friends. The staff were friendly and helpful. the dining room was light and airy with a view of the large lawn and patio area. We only had sandwiches but they were nicely served and the lovely fresh bread was very tasty. The main menu looks very appetising with plenty of choice. I will return with my family soon!

My mother and I arrived for lunch on Saturday. Firstly we were shown to a dirty table, rings from cups and salt or possibly sugar. As my mother has a walker and had taken her coat off and sat down I didn’t ask to be moved but cleaned the table myself with antibacterial wipes I always carry. We ordered drinks and food which you have to pay for upfront so no opportunity to refuse to pay. The drinks arrived, one of which was a bottle of water but no glass. I asked for a glass which the waiter came back with. The glass was dirty. I waited until the food arrived and asked for a clean glass. No apology was given for bringing me a dirty one. My mother had loaded fries at £11. Well I could see the crispy onions, crispy because they were those dried ones you buy in tubs in the supermarket, but no sign of any cheese. I started to eat my bacon, Brie and red onion chutney panini. Well I had bacon. I looked inside for the Brie. There was a sort of stain which was obviously the Brie. I’ve never managed to cut a slice of Brie that thin myself, I suspect they could see through it when they lifted it up. As for the chutney, I found a few soggy bits of tasteless brown stuff. I noticed my mother poking her chips about and asked her what she was doing, she said ‘looking for the cheese’. I asked if she’d found any and she said ‘not really’. She pushed the bowl away and said her legs were cold. We had been sat in front of the entrance and the draft was awful. I asked her if she wanted to go and she was out of her chair faster than I’ve seen someone of 88 move in a long time. All in all a most unpleasant lunch. £11 for a bowl of chips and dried onion, and £10.50 for a bacon roll. Very poor indeed.
