Lovely meal at The Cally Grill (they seem to have dropped the oyster bit). Last day of the Padstow Christmas Festival so we thought it would be busy but I guess the England game made it quiet. We were booked into The Old Custom House but we were offered a seat in The Cally if we wanted to be away from the football and in peace. Really nice experience, lovely views over the harbour, attentive service (just right) and lovely food from a varied menu. Happily come again

Avoid if you can and try some of the very good other restaurants in town. Foods ok but no atmosphere if when busy. Poor dinning room lay with mid stalls that block table behind. OK food as a last resort. Looks better than it turns out to be which is a pity.

Only went as far as the menu outside. An Oyster bar. Great lunch idea. They don’t sell oysters!! Apparently they have not done so for a while!

Really good value for money with great tasting seafood. Really impressed!

Just to be clear, so that no one is disappointed, and like us, you dont travel for over an hour to get here, this place DOES NOT SELL OYSTERS! When we asked, told by the manager, "we have not sold oysters for months"...... Suggestion - Change the name!

I'm going to keep this very short and sweet. The food at this place was brilliant. I had muscles and crab linguine, out of this world. On another note, the bloke who was serving and greeting customers was on his own, but did a outstanding job and a credit to the restaurant.

We went here for dinner and really enjoyed it. The mussels were excellent and so was the Thai curry. Enough space between the tables to make you feel safe. Staff were professional and very friendly.

Absolutely lovely place to eat. My husbands mussels main was beautiful and my meal was equally as good. Our child's fish and chips were very good quality and overall we really enjoyed our meal. Would 100% recommend this restaurant with its lovely food, beautiful view of padstow harbour and the service. Many thanks to John the host for making our time a lovely one

Went tonight for a lovely meal, food was delicious and the place had a lovely atmosphere.The waitress who served us was lovely and very attentive.would definitely recommend.Good social distancing and layout.

Last time we went in summer 19 we had amazing meal at lunch and went back in the evening for another belter. Sadly this time at least half my mussels were gritty. The rest of the food was OK rather than its previous excellent. Hope they can return to their best.

We’ve been coming to Padstow for years and regularly eat at The Old Custom House, where the food, service and welcome has always been consistently good. However, Christmas Day at Cally’s was on another level altogether. It was exceptionally good. The food was superb; fresh, tasty, plentiful and perfectly cooked. Better still, though, was the service. Nick, John and Bianca could not have been more accommodating. No one was rushed. I usually do the cooking and serving on Christmas Day and not only was it fantastic not to have to BUT I don’t think I could have done better! You were amazing. Thank you from us all.

Think glorified Weatherspoons, with chirpier staff, and a heftier price tag.It was quiet when we entered, or so we thought. It wasn't until we'd been waiting 35-ish minutes for our starters and asked the waitress why there was such a delay, that we realised the restaurant is attached to the adjacent pub, and reportedly share a kitchen. If we'd known this, we'd likely have passed and tried somewhere different as there were possibly a hundred or more people in the pub side.The starters were terrible. Mussels in a clumpy creamy sauce that taste more of wine than anything else- spicy chicken wings not even moderately spicy- and the prawn cocktail pulled straight from the 80s with a less than appetising Marie rose sauce.Mains weren't much better. Infact the Hake was alot worse, not sure how the Hake was cooked though it was listed with cassoulet and "fresh veg", they delivered on the fresh veg at least.- Cod and chips, actually very very good, though we were dubious as to whether it was indeed cod.- And the Confit of Duck (which was supposed to be Sea bream, and we weren't told they were out until we'd finished our starters) was just not confit. I'll leave it at that.Back to the cod, we had to ask! ALARM BELLS!! The waitress examined a tiny scrap left on the plate and told us instantly it was certainly cod, seeing our rather bemused faces she quickly interjected, "I do know. I used to be the head chef." We skipped dessert in favour of a coffee. Not the right choice, though it did remind me to get my flu jab. Confused? The coffee was so bad, I feel permanently immunised against bad coffee. Having realised it was St Austell Brewery's "Brewer and Bean" brand, I feel it worth mentioning I've got more than a dozen loyalty cards from drinking elsewhere, and it's usually closely competitive in quality to Starbucks or Costa. So, hey St Austell Brewery, maybe look at retraining at this place, or pull your brand before they damage your reputation?To conclude. Not the worst dining experience I've ever had. The waitress was really friendly if a bit negligent of one customer while talking with another. The food just was not on par with anything on offer in the town, and comparatively poor value for money.

There was a nice choice on the new menu could have found several things to try. The cajan chicken wrap was a nice flavour the disappointment for me was the tomato would have preferred pepper. The plaice in garlic butter was delicious.

Nipped into Padstow for a couple of hours with swmbo and whilst there got the munchies so tried this place.Nice atmosphere even tho it wasn't busy, we were early for lunch but got a table as both wanted a coffee. The menu was was nice as it wasn't packed full of a ridiculous amount of choices, and seemed on par price wise with many other places.The staff were friendly and attentive without being pushy.Food arrived quickly and was really good, the Thai green cod and prawn curry went down a great, just the right amount of heat. The mussels also went down well with swmbo..Will return at some point and try an evening meal.

We're not into oysters but spent a delightful couple of hours here sheltering from the rain, drinking and having supper. The waitress was smashing, friendly and efficient.

We was down Padstow visiting family and we thought on the last night we would go for a nice meal. We have been other places in Padstow but wanted to try somewhere different. We found this place and what a find it was, the restaurant is very well designed and nice inside. We had the chicken wings and camembert for starters both were very nice and then we had the steak each one with potatoes and one with sweet potatoe fries, both steak were cooked rally nice and there was plenty of flavour. The staff were really polite, would recommend this place for a nice meal that doesn't break the bank whilst in padstow.

Slow service and very average food

My husband & I went to Cally’s Oyster bar & grill to have some oysters for our happy hour w/ a cocktail!We were rather surprised by the wonderful & friendly service we first received from John, the bartender.I requested to have my.oysters grilled...It came w/ chopped up onions in a vinegar sauce. It was delicious!Due to receiving the superb service from John & sitting at a table by the window w/ the view of the harbor, we decided to have dinner.We then proceeded to order our dinner from Tina, who also gave us superb service throughout our dinner.I had the fresh sea bream & my husband had their delicious fish pie. The vegetables were fresh & crispy.The menu had many wonderful food selections.We enjoyed the service & food so much, that we ended up coming to this place for the rest of our stay in Padstow!Thank you John, Tina, & Chef!!!

The worst meal I have ever paid money for overseen by a maitre d who went to the Basil Fawlty school of hospitality management. Prawn cocktail thrown together with salad that was gritty and a so called vegetable curry and rice that I swear came straight out of packet. - oh and an oyster bar with no oysters - which is why we went in in the first place. Extraordinarily bad

Visited there for morning coffee and the staff were friendly and pleasant - the barmaid who made us our flat white was worried it wouldn’t be right ,we can assure her that it was. Lovely place if visiting Padstow again would like to visit for a meal.

Visiting Padstow and fancied something to eat. Having a browse at several eateries we liked the look of this place and menu.

The bar has an ideal location with a great view and we were very much looking forward to dinner whilst staying at the Custom House.

Came for oysters. They didn't have any Pasta with prawns and crab was bland. Prawn green curry was a bit watery. Very disappointed.

We ate here for lunch and both had then shrimp pasta in a crab cream sauce. Delicious! They also have decent wines to choose from. My boyfriend had the oysters and really liked them.

Food was fine but a bit slow getting it out of the kitchen. Waitress was ace and she looked after us and kept us updated, but it took two hours to get three courses in an early-evening seating. Won't put us off another try as the food did make up for the delay.

Rude staff, just assume people will spend there because it's Padstow.

Actually went in to get out of the rain, but glad we did. Service was exemplary, friendly, professional, attentive and helpful. Menu was great. My wife is vegetarian, and instead of the usual token one or two dishes, there were four or five, all sounded tasty. The food was very, very good. And not unreasonably priced. Don't be put off by the reference to "oysters" in the strapline to the restaurant, if you like that sort of food, great, if not there's a great variety of other things, from burgers to steaks to fish. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, and the service was excellent

Avoid this place like the plague unless you want dirty cutlery and stale microwaved food served up by uncaring unprofessional staff. Unless your having Oysters the rest of the fish is frozen microwaved garbage.Worst meal ever.

visiting padstow for obvious reasons and we wanted to have a good meal for dinner before the drive back, so we picked this one with the attractive front.

We went to Padstow and hadn’t booked but we were quickly seated. I ordered crab and prawn cocktail and my other half the squid starters. We also shared an oyster starter and they were absolutely fab! Marie our server was friendly and attentive. All the starters arrived in good time. I followed mine with perfectly cooked mussels and he had the linguini which he declared as very tasty. The mains arrived quickly and were piping hot. We then opted for sticky toffee pudding which we shared. The whole meal was well worth the money and the service from Marie was excellent. Highly recommended as the quality of food was excellent.

Just had a family meal £20.00 a head (drink and main course only) beautiful food it took about 30 mins to arrive - not a bad thing-mussles beautiful, crab fresh, seagbream and potatoes very nice.

We stumbled across this place when we where In padstow we really fancied some seafood but got the chef managed to change the fruit de mer platter from cold to hot and they really pulled out the stops every element was perfect and full of flavour we where really impressed all the sea food was perfectly cooked it was great value for money the Thai mussels really stood pit they were great service was fantastic I would really recommend was a good vibe and atmosphere all found thanks for a lovely lunch we will be back

Been twice now 2 with my partner between us had four fabulous meals and you must try the melted camembert with chutney and toast to share.

Superb. Had the Surf & Turf burger and couldnt fault it. My partner, who is a chef, had the Big Smokey and again was perfect. Beers were excellent. Service was fantastic. Considering this is Padstow in the height of the season, very reasonably priced. Highly recommended. Would give a sixth star if possible! ******

Ordered the prawn/crab starter and was “ok”. Service is super slow, don’t go here if you’re thirsty or starving. Wife was happy with her mussels. I ordered the plaice and all four mouth fulls of it was bland and mushy. Good luck finding a salt grinder thats works as well (due to the moisture I know). Vegetables were like they are at home so nothing fancy. All in all, wish I’d just bought fish and chips down the road. Would have been quicker, cheaper and more satisfying.

For starter had camembert melted,toast and chutney lovely combination. My partner for main course had dressed crab which he enjoyed. I had pan fried game with chorizo on a cassoulet base. The flavours were delicious

Very fresh Oysters. Properly priced wine and perfectly prepared sea bass. Our waiter was very polite and helpful. Including tracking us down in the harbour to reunite us with the hat we left behind.

On a hot day it was a delight to go somewhere cool, just had the cream tea plus a coffee which were lovely.

Whilst in Padstow for a week's holiday, we ate there on the first night by chance and based on the meal we had booked again for later in the week.

Scallops to start which were delicious, not a fan of the bread thou, home made bread would’ve been much nicer. My partner had lobster which was ok. I had prawn linguini which was a bit bland to be honest. Cheese board for dessert was lovely, my pudding was supposed to be a berry roulade however was more of a Eton mess, think for a nice restaurant fresh fruit should be used this tasted like it was out of a can!!

Very nice .We had lobster sooo fresh it was almost jumping off the plate and very reasonably priced. This is where you need to make for.

Sadly I couldn’t eat everything on the menu or drink all the cocktails. Everything looked great. We had crab and plaice. Delicious. There was some fiddling around about booking so I would recommend booking before going but we could fit in ok. Reasonable prices for food and wine. Mains and wine £72.

We popped in off the street on a Sunday afternoon, and managed to get a lovely table next to the window. Staff were attentive and helpful, cocktail was lovely, food prompt and tasty! Will definitely return.

We had a nice meal in pleasant surroundings, service was good and the food, oysters and mussels for my wife and marinated chicken for me was nicely cooked and presented although my dish was dry and would have benefitted by a sauce. Would recommend.

We arrived 5.45pm (it had been a long day of driving and no lunch). Only one table towards the rear of the restaurant was occupied. We asked for a window table and were told they were reserved...no “reserved” signs were visible on the tables. The food (oysters for him and chicken liver pâté for me as starters, and the dressed crab and prawn and crab linguine mains) was very average. By the time we had paid the bill and left it was barely 7pm. Not another customer in sight. We won’t be going back. The bill wasn’t cheap and we felt rather unappreciated.

This is a lovely restaurant and the food is fantastic. We had pasta dishes. Great service too. Book in advance.

We had been to Padstow before but not eaten there so we knew that we'd find somewhere to eat but greatly impressed with the service and food, a great way to finish the day

Last Sunday (26 May 2019), we went time travelling, and the place we chose to start the journey was The Cally Oyster Bar & Grill in Padstow. As it turns out, it was an excellent choice, good job too because I was taking the Mem-Sahib out to dinner to celebrate our fortieth wedding anniversary. No pressure then. The time travelling element was provided by a prawn cocktail ordered by the missus for her starter. Oh my, how very 1979! But folks this was no limp lettuce and sauce from a jar. What arrived was a very generous portion , lots of good sized prawns and a lovely sauce with a chunk of fresh bread and local butter for the mopping up of said sauce. We might have been drifting back to 1979 (it rained all day by the way, back then) but The Cally was very definitely 21st century. We arrived early on Sunday evening, but this was not a problem, our table was ready for us and we were shown to our seats by the cheerful chap fronting the house. Then the delightful Sadie showed up! After delivering a bottle of chilled still water Sadie returned with the wine list, menus and a short monologue about the specials on offer and some minor changes to the menu. No problem. So we set about it.

My husband and I had dinner here this evening. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but I needn’t have been. The food was excellent and the service flawless. There was a really nice bar area for pre-dinner drinks. I would highly recommend this place.

The starters were frozen squid in breadcrumbs and the prawns in the cocktail were the tiny frozen ones you can buy in a supermarket so we were disappointed. The fish main course may or may not have been fresh but did not taste it.

My partner and I visited The Cally Oyster Bar and Grill on Friday 3 May while staying in Padstow for the May Day festival. We have been to this festival about 5 times in the past. This was our first time to eat at this restaurant as we like to choose a different restaurant each evening. From start to finish we received great service. The seafood was excellent and our waiter Nick was very attentive, helpful and professional. We have been to many good Seafood restaurants in Padstow but consider this one to be the best. I thoroughly recommend for quality of food, excellent service and definitely not rip-off prices. We will be back when next in Padstow.

Booked a table the night before for 7pm arrived 7 mins early as we had a drink next door at the custom house. Stood waiting dressed up looking very smart to see customers leaving in shorts and t shirts who we had seen earlier that day playing on the beach with there dog. Eventually got seated into a trucking cafe style seating area which as a long distance lorry driver ive had better seating on a lay by. Ordered for myself a classic prawn cocktail and for specials they had scallops which my mother and father ordered. On arrival of starters I had what only can be described as white worms covered in a very watery seafood sauce i make better with mayo and tomato sauce in a lorry and prawns are not 1 to 2mm thick and look like worms. The scallops were burnt on the one side where they have been over cooked and were very rubbery. And this is a fishing quay???? It was heavily over priced the bottle of red wine ordered was dumped on the table and not opened for us to even try at 21 pound a bottle and was awful.and I really look forward to what could have been a fantastic meal . Shame on you and glad we left when we did and used the ship inn which was lovely pub grub. Please avoid this place if you want seafood it's terrible and the prawns you can get in the pubs for half the price are 3x the size and juicy. Please please understand this is a totally my personal review however I've travelled all over the world and eaten in some very exclusive restaurants as well as had a bacon butty on a roadside cafe for Penny's. If your paying expensive prices you expect reasonable to good quality but this falls very short of this at expensive prices, and just disappoints.

Popped in at 1pm and we were lucky to bag a window seat with a great view of the bustling harbour. We chose the crab salad special which we both agreed was very generous and served with a choice of delicious new potatoes or fries and, unexpectedly, scrumptious bread. And not too pricey. Highly recommended.

Nice restaurant but sadly had no oysters or sirloin steak, the reason we had booked this place.

During our five days in Cornwall we found this place for lunch. Food was lovely and fresh and the restaurant had a nice feel to it with plenty of space around the tables. Staff were great. Although we had fish they offered much more including cream teas. A great place to eat and watch the world go by..

No we didn’t have oysters and may be we should have because the scallops were over cooked hence rubbery and tough. Plus I could have done without the grit in one of them. A little more chorizo with the butter sauce would have been nice. The batter on the fish was not cooked through so has that doughy inside. The mussels however were very tasty but didn’t have enough sauce on the plate.

The welcome was fantastic. A great place to people watch and chat to tourists and locals alike. The bar staff were lovely, very welcoming and knowledgeable about local area. A huge gin collection and superb local beer combined with good food. We will definitely visit again when in the area.

We drove to Padstow on Mothers day, looking for somewhere to eat after being let down by the 'Dune restaurant' in Newquay. As we walked into the town, I spotted a mothers day lunch menu on the wall of the oyster & Grill. Luckily for us they had a table and were still serving lunch. The waiter came and took our drinks order as soon as we sat down. We asked if we could move as we saw a window table come available, he cleaned the table and moved us straight away. My better half had some oysters before our lunch which she said were great. We then ordered from the set menu, a couple of starters then the roast lamb and gammon. Both were good size portions and cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and very attentive, they made us feel welcome and relaxed. Thank you all for saving mothers day

Service was very good. Lovely meal, couldn't fault it. We had Peri Peri prawns and oysters for starters, cod curry and salmon linguine for mains and ice cream and sorbet for dessert, all washed down with some lovely red wine and then finished the evening off with a nice glass of port each. Would definitely return.

So good we ordered 12 each! The oysters were super fresh and really tasty but the team were really knowledgable too and super friendly!

My husband was particularly looking forward to some oysters at this restaurant, but as we were seated, it became apparent that they had run out of oysters and he was offered mussels instead. These were really tiny and he commented that the best part of the dish was the sauce, of which there was a lot. I had the wild boar burger with blue cheese, which was fine but nothing special. A slightly disappointing experience and we probably wouldn't rush back when there are so many places to eat in Padstow which offer better food.

Ate in the restaurant a few times on our stay, the food was lovely, recommend the Oysters and the Mussels. Staff were very welcoming and very attentive. Definitely return

I popped in to get out of the rain & tried a cream tea very nice the scones arrived warm which was a nice surprise.

Da italiani ci si trova un po' in difficoltà per ciò che riguarda il cibo non solo in UK ma un po in tutto il mondo...in questo ristorante entrati un po' per caso un po' per l'atmosfera invitante ci siamo trovati benissimo con piatti davvero semplici e buoni...i prezzi sono un po' altini ma è la media dappertutto...cameriera sorridente educata e disponibile.

Visited here 19th December, service by John was great. Food was fabulous. It was a great mix of new and previous pescadou. Spot on for service, food and atmosphere. Well done St Austell brewery, front of house and chefs! You really have the perfect place. Thanks for making out family visit great.

We had a really nice meal on our last evening in Padstow and thoroughly enjoyed Cally's, will go back next year. Very generous portions. Worth a try.

This restaurant has been redesigned in the last 12 months or so. The styling allows for cosy private meals in booths or if you prefer open areas with views of the harbour.

I called to make a reservation last week and to pre-book the fruits de mer (as some restaurants I’ve been to in the past won’t let you order if it you haven’t let them know beforehand) on the day of our booking I got a call advising there had been a supplier issue with one aspect of the order and did we still want the reservation. After a discussion we decided to keep the reservation - and oh boy are we glad we did. Although our reservation wasn’t until 7:30 I called at 6 and asked if we could arrive early - no problem at all. When we arrived our waiter was attentive and made sure we were happy with everything. Then the Fruits de Mer arrived - the waiter advised the chef had added a few extras to make up for our earlier inconvenience and we weren’t disappointed. The waiter advised the chef had said he had really enjoyed preparing and cooking the platter and you could tell - everything was cooked to perfection. The food was amazing, the evening was brilliant and our waiter was perfect. We will be back.

Our meal here was outstanding if not a little indulgent on our part. Staff are great and cater for your needs. Will go again

Have eaten here the last couple of nights. Oysters followed by Thai fish curry last night, scallops followed by chilli crab and prawn linguini tonight. Both meals were great. Fantastic service from our waiter who was always available but gave us space to eat and chat comfortably. Great food and service in a lovely fish restaurant without the exorbitant prices of Rick Stein. Would rather eat here any day!!!

We ate here as a group. The waitress was lovely, patient and helpful. Good menu, the calamari was delicious as were the mussels. My prawn sizzler was huge, and tasty. Some of my group said their meat was tough on the steak sizzler, but I didn’t try it so couldn’t comment.

This was a lovely little place to eat during our visit to Padstow... I can't say I was blown away by the food but the atmosphere and service were great. I had a dressed crab salad which was cool and I'm so glad I ordered the fish burger too otherwise I'd have still been hungry lol... everyonr else's food was nice from the serious chomping going down on our table! I'm not dying to go back there but would have no problem returning!

We had lunch at The Cally - we are four friends - and we all enjoyed our meals. I had goats cheese and beetroot salad, the two men had fish and chips and another friend had grilled plaice. Everything was beautifully cooked and freshly made. The service was good and as the restaurant was not too crowded it was a peaceful place to have lunch. We had a table with a lovely view over the harbour.
