Friendly casual pub/bar. Fast and pleasant service, two for one on the food (a winner), bumped up the fries because bar man didn’t think we got enough and theakstons on draft - happy days.

Would highly recommend for food and drinks.

Nice little bar. Staff very friendly and helpful. If you're going to get food then the caley burger is a great shout and definitely enjoyed that. The beer is a little expensive but for the vibe of the bar I can't complain. Would visit again

Great day before and again after the football today! We've been most match days and The Caley is always consistent in what it does best which is Fast service and good food. I am disabled and the set up works well for me on match days as most other places I just cant access the toilets let alone bar.

1st time I’ve been in, in a good while. Nice inside, good atmosphere, but very very pricey for the area. £6.70 for a Gin n Slim…..you’re not in George St, nor the High St…..the other corner opposite to where you are, is the Diggers, guess what, £5.30 for the same drink, and served in a proper gin glass…..which I went to after getting stung by you lot, had a good wee night……. Bring the prices down a tad, stop takin the you know what!

We discovered the Caley Sample Room in Edinburgh right next door to our hotel and quickly chose it as our favorite pub. The food was consistently very good, the prices were reasonable and the beer and cider were really tasty. There are always pub quizzes that are very funny and we had a great time there.

Had an incredibly delicious steak pie here, one of my favorite things I ate while on vacation. Quite liked the atmosphere and the staff were friendly.

Very lovely place to go and eat. Very clean and well kept! Food was presented very well and fast service. Vanilla ice cream was great definitely save room for dessert!

The service is excellent, despite having little staff, the waitress tries too hard to provide great service, the beer is good and the food tastes good. The prices are reasonable.

Booked tables in advance to watch the EURO opening match. The pub cancelled our reservation at the last minute and denied providing us a table. Apparently it was their booking system that was at fault. Spent the entire evening looking for a pub to watch the match, ended up watching at home. Horrible night.

I recently booked the Caley Sample Rooms for a wedding celebration party and it was fantastic. Food was great, staff were great, great value, and excellent venue all round. Perfect venue for a perfect day. Thanks to all the staff.

We spent three nights dining at the Sample and had a great time. The food is great pub grub and just what we needed after wandering the cobbles each day. The service is lax, but still nice. If fish, steak, and loaded fries are your thing this place has got it. Blame Canada!

My food was good and that is the only positive note I have to say about this dump. Place looks as if someone has spray painted a jobby with gold paint. Barman was condensing and disrespected - did not apologise for my friends food being brought late, rudely took away our plates when we were in the middle of a serious conversation, and had the dress sense of Simon Cowell. Will not be back in this establishment if you paid me!

A solid, dog-friendly pub that does good food. The selection of ale is variable depending on when you visit, but the last time I was in included three beers that weren't pale! A surprising rarity in Edinburgh these days. This is definitely the best gastropub in the area. I hope they continue to do well.

Nice place, can't tell if its trying to be a pub or a restaurant. £6 for a pint of beer in that part of town is just mental.

I'm re-reviewing as ownership has changed. It happened to be on a quiz night (Thursday), and place was packed. Good to see, and although I didn't participate in the quiz, it sounded like fun. My friend had food which was described as only OK. Sausage and mash: gravy thin and no veg. Hope to return on alternative night mid-week and improve score 🤞would like to see this pub do well.

Booked table for Hogmanay and had a blast. Ceilidh band were excellent. Bar staff and waiting staff did a great job. Hope we can do this again.

75 mins from placing order to receiving food, not the outlets fault but a problem with securing a driver, the food however seems like it had been sitting ready waiting for collection & the chips in particular were terrible

Canny gastropub with open mic nights and decent prices. Food is very nice and also relatively cheaply priced. Fantastic selection of drinks from locally brewed beverages to more widely recognised beers. Definitely worth a visit if in the area

Il ragazzo che ci ha accolto è stato gentilissimo aiutandoci a trovare parcheggio e sistemando il nostro tavolo a dovere (visto che alcuni ragazzi avevano preso gli sgabelli migliori). L'ambiente è caldo, piacevole e vivace. C'era musica dal vivo, padroni con i propri cani, un bel proiettore acceso per trasmettere le partite e camerieri gentili e sorridenti. Si capisce subito che stanno molto attenti ai dettagli: dopo una certa ora ci hanno cambiato il vasetto di fiori decorativo con un portacandela per cambiare, con poco, l'atmosfera. Hamburger e patatine buone!

Would really recommend for locals and tourists! We had a super great time here, the food was excellent - especially the sweet potato fries, they where amazing! My mom had the sausage and mash and she said it was some of the best mash she ever had, soft and creamy. We had some great ales with our dinner although they had a great selection of wines, beers and whiskeys. We did make a reservation to sit in a booth which was great and comfortable and near the window. The bathrooms where clean and really nice. Would definitely recommend.

Went in this evening. Had never been before. 3 members of staff chatting at the bar so we went and found a seat ourselves. No menu on the table. Only the wine and gin list. Had to go and get a menu ourselves and it was only a limited menu. Had to them stand at the bar to wait to be served with bar staff sitting under the bar out of view. Let’s just say was not a very nice first experience and I very much won’t be going out my wait to try a 2nd time. End rest of feeling like we weren’t wanted we left and went somewhere else for dinner :( In reply to the response. I appreciate it was busy however the at the time we had come in all the tables were set with not one table with plates to collect. Again sorry if you don’t like it and it may not be the normal but the experience we had received I would not come back. First impressions are everything and go add my review wasn’t done out of anger it was a factual account of wha myself and my friend experienced on the day

The Caley was a great place for 2 Canadians to hang out as our Airbnb was right around the corner. Both nights our server Rachel was awesome as she was helpful in providing places for coffee and things to do! This is a great little pub to experience Scottish hospitality instead of the tourist areas.

Had breakfast at the caley sample room yesterday. Service was fine and the food when it arrived was lovely. Got no explanation for 50 minute wait on food being served especially as we were all having practically the same dish and there was only the 3 of us in the pub. As I said it was lovely but wait was a bit of a pain especially as we were catching a train.

Great local pub, good food with service to match. Not the biggest selection of beers, but the spirit shelves have plenty of choice. All round a very decent place.

Only good experiences since the reopening, Diggers has had a good impact. Plenty of whisky at good value, beer selection is decent too and cocktails are reasonably priced and tasty. Food has been good since the kitchen has gotten to full flow, though I haven't sampled a huge amount yet.

Service, steaks and BLT were all great. One of the best steaks we've had in Scotland. Reasonable prices too

Went on Monday evening. Signs saying BOGOF on burgers on Mondays written in massive letters at both ends of the bar but we were surprised to be told by the woman at the bar that this offer wasn't on, and that "it must be an old sign". When our food arrived we were asked if we wanted condiments and requested vinegar and tomato sauce. Waited 5 mins for these to arrive, guess they forgot, so went up and asked another member of staff who got them for us straight away. It wasnt very busy so not sure what happened. The food was OK though a bit cold. All in all, not too impressed.

I had my 30th birthday here last night. The staff were wonderfully helpful every step of the way making the booking process smooth & easy. They put on a lovely spread for a decent cost for 30 people. Drinks are well priced and the location makes it easy to get in to town afterwards. Thank you, will certainly be back!

Poor service, music too loud for dinner time, soup came without a spoon to eat, and was poor quality (not handmade), cider with no gas... Don't recommend this place to eat if you have expectations

Terrible Thursday night experience, overbooked, we waited long for a table and were sat down, then was then kicked out by another bar tender. Waste of time, lack of coordination by staff, messed around for 30min+ for nothing

Atmosphere on Thursday night pub quiz was great. Lovely staff and a fun time... Just make sure you book a table in advance if you want to sit down!

A nice little cozy place and we had a team's outing from our club. Drinks n food were quick..but guys, I have a request salt n pepper chicken wings should be less of salt..n little more pepper. Unfortunately it was too salty, way to to salty and I literally had to brush of the excess salt and couldn't finish it. Portion size was fine and we really enjoyed the service but please ask ur cook/chef to use less salt..GBP 6.5 is way to costly for wings when you cannot enjoy them.

Beer not very good. Bar is nice and food looked fine. I had Amstel and Heineken which were both pretty flat and lifeless. The others had IPA Deuchars which they said wasn't tasting great either. We were in for the rugby on Saturday but left at half time. A pity as we expected better now that you have re-opened, same owners as along the road I believe.

So happy the caley sample room is back! And with such amazing food! Incredible steak frites, delicious ox cheek. Nice vegetarian options too. Best chips in town.

We live right around the corner and were so happy to see the Caley Sample Room open for business again! Such a warm and welcoming space with a great atmosphere for family and friends. Great selection of taps, gin, and whisky and amazing chips! All served fresh and at a great price. Such lovely staff as well and really fun pub quiz nights. So happy to have our lovely local pub again

We went there today, 11/08, due to recommendations and checked beforehand Google and Facebook if it was open. Then we stood for closed doors and no notice. Seriously inconsiderate!!

Came here based on reviews of "great beers". Are they having a laugh? Two run of the mill Green King slop and some Scottish offering Ka Pai which was average. Asked for peanuts. "We've run out" Asked for crisps." We've run out". Barman did at least offer to nip to the next door convenience store to get some crisps. Based on the pathetic beer experience we decided not to bother eating here. Don't believe the hype!! Meh.
