Expensive. For the price you pay, you expect more than skinny frozen McDonald's fries with your burger. Service was slow too. Burger was nice.

Restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. Visit in the morning for brunch. We returned there every day of our stay. We greatly appreciated the service and their Scottish breakfast. Thanks to the team.

The atmosphere is very good. The hummus menu was quite good. Feels like homemade? And the special cocktail made here (Edinburgh blah) was so delicious that I felt good about it.

genuinely had the most beautiful avocado toast I've ever had in my life and tasted amazing! The service was so friendly and quick despite the packed crowd. The prices are a bit on the pricier side, and I feel like there weren't as many varied options on the brunch menu.

I ordered a burger for myself, and was very dissapointed to find that the patty had clearly been frozen - resulting in poor taste and texture. Not what I would expect when paying +18 pounds for a burger. Staff was friendly

service - friendly at first and welcoming but thereafter terrible - we waited over half an hour for our food - which was at best ok across the table - whilst looking appetising, was not particularly flavoursome. I observed other parties being served ahead of us - althoutgh they arrived after us. Also it seems to be common practice in edinburgh to add a tip on the bill which means i have to discuss it with the staff to take it off. I often do tip at my discretion and prefer the courtesy of being asked at the point of payment, so will never just let that go through. Not everyone can afford a 10% levy and it causes embarrassment among groups of diners.

Amazing place! Doggie friendly too😍😍🐶😍😍 cheese board it's yummii and coffee is great nice&strong as I&my friend likes it, plenty of seats, you can pop in for coffee&cake only too .Highly recommend it !

Two main course gluten free options - beetroot or steak and chips. Opted for two starter dishes humus (dry and yeuch) guacamole ( runny ) . Corn chips were cold. Other non gluten free dishes were average . Really disappointing

Booked the Southpour for our organisations Christmas dinner and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Daniela was very helpful in the booking process and in the lead up to the event. The meal itself was very tasty, generous portions and the staff were very attentive and created a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Booked for my mums birthday dinner and had a lovely time, food was so good and the staff were so nice!! Brought out cake and candles and made the whole evening so special 🥰would definitely recommend x

Very nice restaurant and very relaxing, but unfortunately just doesn’t have a menu that works for me. Also think food and drink prices a bit high. Staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Dog and family friendly. Reservations probably best for dinner. Your experience may be better than mine. Give it a try.

My husband , son and I came yesterday to try the Christmas Menu. We had salmon parcel, beef Ribs and Pavlova! All the food was amazing. Flavours burst in our brains! so tasty!!. Staff were really attentive all the time, made our little Christmas dinner to be remembered. I truly recommend it.

Pleasant restaurant with few people the evening we went there. The food, however, is not exceptional, beef steak which was not one (impossible to ask for cooking, and tastes of pork), bland burger. The servers are very nice.

Came here with my wife and a couple friends. It was amazing! They ordered the burger, steak frites, and ragu and loved it! I ordered 6 brisket tacos and it was fantastic! A bunch of food but I'm a bigger guy! We finished off the night with an apple crumble! The service and live music was phenomenal! We didn't need a reservation but it's a good idea to have one.

Dropped in one Sunday evening passing and decided to get dinner and a drink. Didn't have a reservation but was seated by the friendly staff and given are menus. This is where it gets a bit disappointing. We waited a very long time to have a drink order taken then a long time to get the drinks. The food we ordered was lovely. But felt the place was under staffed as there was one waiter serving the busy half of the restaurant. When we had finished and asked for the bill we waited so long to get the bill we actually just went up to the bar to pay before leaving.

This place should be named Southpoor The service is dreadful. We went in for a meal. Shown to our table then ignored. After a 15min the server wandered over to take our order. I mentioned the fact we had had a long wait. A cheeky reply of I’m so sorry but we are very busy!! 20 covers if that. If they could not manage that well it’s a poor show. Three members of staff. One laying tables. The other two up at the bar. And with that kind of service they have a notice saying they will add a 10% service charge. Joke. What service are they trying to charge for? I live in the area and will definitely not step in there again. With so many other restaurants in the area they had better buck up their ideas.

Must have turned up on an off day. Half the tables are empty, but there is zero service. Asked for sauces, never appeared. Drinks took forever to arrive and ran dry half way through.

I hadn't visited Southpour in about 10 years as we live in South Queensferry, but we were at the Queen's Hall for an event with Will Young and it's about a 4 minute walk away from the venue. Service was attentive, friendly, and in a great atmosphere. Cocktails were great - I had the Bramble & a Hugo Spritz. Plenty of water to drink too. Food was excellent! Haddock to die for with mushy peas and homemade creamy tartar sauce. Chips were hand cut and fresh. Steak frites was one of the best we've had. Aged sirloin seared on the grill done right with vine tomatoes and hand cut chips. Portions were just right. Only point was upholstery could do with freshening up. Some threadbare seats, but everything else was spot on. Love the open windows onto the street and views - perfect. We'll definitely be returning.

An amazing place, cannot recommend enough! The staff is so nice, music and atmosphere overall make you feel at home 😊 Most definitely go for the "spritz up your summer" options, if you're a spritz person! And many thanks to Sam for making our visit special, you really feel welcome and cared for.

Amazing vibes, lovely little gastropub so thoughtfully decorated that brings a smile on your face. Food was delicious and portions were ideal. Service was the cherry on top - special thanks to dani! She made our visit even more lovely.

I feel ripped off. both of us had a coffee and a pain au chocolat. The coffee was ok, but weak; the pain au chocolat was stale, but warmed up too much so that the pain was dry, but the chocolate sticks were grainy liquid mixture. The surface of the pain was VERY brown, but not quite burnt. When we paid, the cost was a whopping £17.40. They had added 20% service!! We were not told about the 'optional' service charge by the server either when we ordered or when we went to pay. I don't think we'll be back.

Lovely, comfortable venue. Overpriced! £3.25 for a cup of week coffee, £4 for a stale pain au chocolate which had been too long in the oven and the 20% service charge on top. Bill for 2 of the above was £17.40 - excessive!! Was looking forward to morning coffee at Southpour, but this will be the first and last visit. Felt ripped off.

We had breakfast twice because it was very good there. The restaurant is tastefully decorated. The food is great and the service was very friendly.

Looks lovely on the outside and inside but genuinely the worst food I've had in such a long time. Started were a taco which had decent flavour but very wet and the mackerel pate which was served with nuts, crème fraîche and no bread / crackers? The beef ragu was like Heinz spaghetti hoop sauce with 3 chunks of beef that I couldn't tell if it was stewing meat or mined meat it was such a weird texture. The burger my husband has was average too. Sat at 630 and mains weren't served until 725pm which was disappointing as it wasn't packed. Really disappointed and would avoid for food but cocktails were okayish. If we weren't in such a rush to get to a show after the slow service I would have contested paying it was that bad.

Destaco que la carne de la hamburguesa era excelente, por este motivo adjunto la foto del panecillo tanto abierto como cerrado. El bistec lo sirvieron al punto solicitado, aunque para ser excelente el plato debería haber estado algo caliente. Las patatas fritas eran las típicas congeladas insípidas (desmerecen el local).

Southpour looks lovely and promises ‘long & lazy brunches’. Delighted to see so many tables available, I walked in and waited (ages) to be seated. I was then (quite aggressively ) told there was no availability as the kitchen was too busy. I observed there were many tables free but was told by the server not to argue with him!! The couple behind me were quite taken aback by how nastily I was spoken to. This man has zero people skills and should not be working in hospitality. I popped along to The Southern - which may look less inviting but offered a warm and friendly welcome.

Roast Sunday dinner excellent. Good wine choice.

A 10% "completely optional" service charge was automatically added to the receipt. Either pay your staff more, or put acuurate prices on your menu, but stop trying to pass off carrying two coffees to the table as some sort of extraordinary act that needs to be bolsterd by an additional donation.

Visiting Edinburgh, a great little bar/pub with live music on Saturday evenings. The servers are top notch. Super friendly place for children (games are available). The chef was also great in adapting his dishes to the allergy of one of our daughters. I highly recommend.

Lovely little restaurant; nice vibe inside. Kid friendly - appropriate kids menu and high chairs available. My son's grilled cheese was on some VERY hard bread though (like a sourdough). I think for a kid's menu/meal it should be softer and easier for them to consume. Menu was limited in variety... but I had a croque madame and it was delicious with homemade tomato soup. Spicy margarita was delicious

We visited recently and had a lovely mid-afternoon 'brunch' which tasted delicious and was served by super friendly and attentive staff. A little quiet in atmosphere as our visit coincided with the lull between lunch and dinner, but that worked out well for us - see above re attentive staff - but I'm confident they manage that during very busy spells too! Would thoroughly recommend the potato rosti 'benny'.

I cant really call this a review, as we didnt get past the front door! Having made a reservation for 6.00 pm on a Saturday night, we arrived to find hand written notices on the windows and door advising that the kitchen was closed..... On entering, we were told the kitchen was closed until Wednesday, therefore there was no food available. When I asked why they had not contacted us about our reservation, we were told that they had called everyone - this was obviously not the case, as we had never had a call or a message left. We were then informed that there were two reservations that they hadn't contacted, we might be one of those!! Having arrived for our meal, and being disappointed, wouldn't it have been nice to have received an apology and perhaps even the offer of a complimentary drink, considering it was the establishment that had let us down, but no, nothing. We had no alternative but to go elsewhere. Customer service severely lacking

They served us the drinks and after that they ignored our table for more than 30 minutes, until we decided to leave. We clearly weren't welcomed there (customers arriving later were already being served the food while we were trying to call them several times to take our orders as well, but with no success). Maybe the food is good, the service is fast, but we never get to enjoy any of them. In fact, we didn't even taste the drinks. We simply paid for what was on our table and left.

Went there today for lunch with my 8y old daughter, ordered kids fish and chips and a breakfast salad cost £9.5 it was described with avocados, charred tenderstem ,sesame seeds and goddess dressing. I was quite hungry so added poached egg cost £2.00 what i received was a handful salad leaves and extremely finely chopped tenderstem and avocado, no such a goddess dressing nor sesame seeds. Very disappointed and asked to add up some smoked salmon, cost £2.5 so i paid total £14 for rubbish salad. I have tried here several times in the past, and never disappointed this much. Even more it took like 40mins of waiting for this. I needed to extend my parking even if we didn't go for dessert . I think it was a total ripoff, I dont think ill go back there again. 😢😠

Not sure if they were just having a bad day but the place was a shambles. Dirty plates everywhere, seemed confused by our booking, two things we wanted from the menu weren't available, took 25 mins to get two coffees, a £12 egg and avo on toast was one tiny slice, with a yhin skim of avo and a sad looking egg. Sent it back. Then our other order was lost somehow even though we were one of two parties in at the time. Cancelled it and left. Very odd place and odd management.

We live in the Area and pass by Southpour frequently always looks so welcoming, so decided to try. First staff, very welcoming , explained menu and looked after pooch...brilliant. Next Food, mackerel to start which was fresh served with green apple , was apprehensive at start as skin wasn't scorched and looked raw as flesh didn't pull away from skin. But overall nice. We also shared beef brisket taco's , very plain with little taste, basically brisket inside a taco skin with some spicy mayonnaise. Mains again, not inspiring , had the Haddock Risotto where the rice was boiled to a pulp (no where neat al dente) so looked like a plate of porridge, couldn't taste the haddock which was lost in the plate somewhere, not seasoned to boot. The stuffed Squid my son ordered was similar squid a bit rubbery stuffed with plain white rice so very bland only the sauce recovered the dish a little. Overall it seems outwith their core offerings of burgers and fish & chips the kitchen would seem to be challenged in making the step up to Bistro. Service again superb but would not make me go back.

Great steak frites and good prices with welcoming staff

Beautiful place with wonderful staff and amazing food. Took our group of 9 for dinner after the kitchen was already closed. Dinner was great.

I unfortunately had a pretty disappointing lunch here. I ordered a ‘bloody mary cheese melt’ which I believe was supposed to be a toastie as this was also how it was described by the girl serving us when she brought it over. However, the bread was simply just warm, not in the slightest bit toasted which also meant the filling had soaked through the bread, leaving the bottom soggy. I also ordered a side of ‘potato rostis’ which I was expecting to be just that - rostis. However they ended up being just some fairly sad looking hash browns which had presumably just been cooked from frozen. There was also no effort made on presentation at all. I personally feel £4.50 for the ‘rostis’ and £9 for the sandwich / toastie is unreasonable given the quality. One of the friends I was with also ordered a side of the tenderstem broccoli, which arrived lukewarm at best. The staff member serving us was very friendly and gave us almonds on the house as they did not have the wasabi peas we had ordered - this was really nice of her! However once our food was brought to us, we were not visited / passed by any staff members even once. Despite the fact we were I believe the only people in there towards the end, the staff all opted to remain on the other side of the restaurant, chatting by the bar. It would have been nice if we were checked up on, even just the once, or just to have someone clear our plates / offer another drink etc. I would understand if the place was incredibly busy, but it was very very quiet. We ended up having to ask for the bill as we were leaving as it was clear no one would be coming over. Overall, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere but I do feel it was way too expensive considering the quality of the food and lack of service once we had been given our food. Thank you regardless :)

What a gr8 find. Hubby and I had a delicious brunch with gr8 coconut milk cafe lattes. The dinner menus looks amazing too but didn't get a chance to go back.

Run by dishonest people… I am a student in edinburgh and i was looking for a job. I worked 8 hour for an UNPAID trial shift and was offered a job by the previous manager. The manager was then fired and i was ignored completely. I went several times claiming my offer and they would always say the general manager would contact me on the same day. Turns out no one ever even had the decency to let me know i wasn’t going to be get the job AND to pay for my 8 hours of intense work, where i even closed up. They behaved in a dishonest and rude way and for this reason only i do not recommend spending your money here. As i am an honest person, i will say this, the atmosphere is nice and the food i very decent. I hope this message will reach the managers and will maybe remind them of how a decent person should’ve behaved so as to not repeat it.

Booked a table at 11:50 for 1pm. Spoke to a lovely lady who “took”our booking. Only to find out that they had no recollection of the said booking when we showed up. Really poor reaction from lady at the door. Shame. An apology would have been sufficient. Will not try this place again.

Recently came here for a meal with my parents when they were in town and enjoyed a lovely dinner however was confused as a 20 year old student when refused a small glass of wine with my meal (that I was not paying for) as I did not have ID apart from my student ID. Under the Scottish Alcohol legislation it states - "However, if you’re 16 or 17 and accompanied by an adult, you can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal". Despite being 20 years old this applies to this situation. I completely understand that adhering to the law and guidelines of not serving under 18 year olds and 'Challenge25' is very important to hospitality jobs, however considering the circumstance this incident was absurd and unnecessarily cautious and I will refrain coming here in the future.

Been to Southpour a few times before and raved about it, unfortunately this visit was not like the previous. Quite disappointed with the service and the food quality. I ordered a Bloody Mary which has taken the crown for the worst I’ve ever had, plus steak frites which was too rare for me and fatty. Felt like we had to chase for some service dispute 4 staff members working. Not sure if ownership has changed or maybe have just come on a bad day, but unfortunately we won’t be returning in a hurry.

Do not have steak here. Comes with the saddest salad you have ever seen (literally rocket plonked into a heap on the plate). Not worth the £18! Nice interiors and location though. Good stop for coffee/drink where can watch world go by through big windows.

I've been here several times and I have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and natural, food is always delicious and fresh, I love the atmosphere and the decor. This is our go to place for the team meetings but also catch ups with friends.

Quick lunch on a Thursday. Less than a dozen folk in so a bit quiet. Prompt service and delicious GF Chicken Club sandwich.

It’s such a shame that the food is so bad and overpriced here because it’s a lovely spot with cosy decor and a lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately, the portions are so small that you will leave hungry. Would recommend for a drink but not for food as you will need to eat when you get home.

My wife and I go to this pub every time we visit Edinburgh. But I always get the impression the brewery put all their trainees in here as everything is so well intentioned but it never quite works On Saturday night we popped in for a drink. It is table service but probably a third of tables were empty. Amazingly we were told if we wanted a drink there was 30 minute wait. 30 minutes!. We left to go to a pub that wanted our money

Beautiful restaurant and food was even better! Service a wee bit slow but all the staff looked quite new so they get a pass. Cocktails were delicious too.

Very unfortunate visit to this restaurant. Although the food was fine the service was appalling. We had to chase food after 45 minutes as we were going to see a show. We then had to chase drinks that never arrived. When we complained, one of the servers accused one of our party of “grabbing” her. Very immature reaction to an elderly and very friendly customer. I tend not to write negative reviews but these guys count not run a bath.
