Southpour in Edinburgh, City of

Very unfortunate visit to this restaurant. Although the food was fine the service was appalling. We had to chase food after 45 minutes as we were going to see a show. We then had to chase drinks that never arrived. When we complained, one of the servers accused one of our party of “grabbing” her. Very immature reaction to an elderly and very friendly customer. I tend not to write negative reviews but these guys count not run a bath.

What a let down!!! Had such a great first visit and was excited to return but now wish I hadn’t. Very poor service, felt like we were imposing and staff not interested. Food was ok and drinks were ok when we finally got them.

Could be so much better. Arrived approx 5pm for a drink and 40 min later we had to remind them, we could see our drinks from a distance but they just weren’t served! Other tables having the same problem, one table got exasperated, saw their drinks on the bar and collected them! Our drinks finally arrived and they were nice. Shame we had to drink them so quickly as we had a table booked elsewhere for dinnerp!

Absolutely lovely breakfast. Arrived too early our first day in Edinburgh and couldn’t access our accommodation on Minto street. We happened to stumble in and we’re warmly greeted. I had lovely scrambled eggs on sourdough bread and it was delicious. The restaurant is also very beautiful and clean !

I booked in a large group for lunch in October. The planning took some back and forth but the staff were patient and very helpful with pre-orders and deposits. The team were incredibly attentive and well prepared to accommodate the 32 of us! The food was brilliant, the service slick, and the atmosphere lovely. Really grateful to them for giving us such a wonderful afternoon and will definitely be back!

We were attracted by the beauty of the restaurant from the street, going down from Arthur's Seat towards the city center. We were warmly welcomed by Sima, the guy at the entrance, who explained the peculiarities of the local cuisine and we had an extraordinary culinary experience from the first day in Scotland. A big thank you!

The food was very tasty, I tried several kinds of traditional food and I liked them all. The services offered by Sima were professional and very helpful.

This was my office for several days and it was wonderful. Staff was amazing and kind. Clean facilities, great food and I would 100% recommend this as a fulltime remote worker.

Lovely breakfast to cure our hen party hangovers! We stayed in the rooms above so it was a quick wander down for pancakes, bacon and maple syrup for breakfast!

This is the worst restaurant in Edinburgh I have been to in 40 years. After booking a table we had to ask a waiter to take an order as they did not ask us at all. We arrived at 7pm and waited until 8.20 pm for any food to arrive. We then left thoroughly unhappy with our experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I visit this place on a semi regular basis and it's always good. Went for brunch on Saturday morning and, as usual, the food was excellent and the service first class.

We've so missed Southpour.. Great to be back.. staff efficient, friendly and on the ball as always... Good menu.. and really well organised (in line with covid situation)... so restaurant didn't feel dead.. or too busy... just right! Food great as always.. One point I would just mention.. is take an extra layer to wear inside if your prone to feel the cold ....(if its a cold day/eve) as I think in line with current regulations etc.. there is little or no heating on.. (it was a really cold day)

We had a really lovely breakfast at Southpour, a great way to round off our trip in Edinburgh. Both of us went traditional and went for the Full Scottish Breakfast, it was a very sizeable portion and everything was cooked beautifully, would recommend!

Really enjoyed our visit to Southpour. The space is very bright, nicely decorated and clean. Staff all very nice. Brilliant selection of food! We had a hard time deciding what to eat! Shame it doesn't open a wee bit earlier than 10am. Would love to return.

3 sober men walk into a bar an hour before closing. Barman turns them away while serving other patrons. It's a shame as this has been the only unfriendly bar we have been to in all our visits to Edinburgh. We found it while walking back to our hotel. Maybe we weren't trendy enough or over 40s are not welcome.Disappointing

The restaurant was recommended by the hotel we stayed at; the landlord mentioned that they "go there to have something decent once in a while". Knowing the Edinburghians that means a lot. And it is true. Nicely decorated, a bunch of young friendly enthusiasts treat you to exceptional food, nice drinks and absolutely no fuss about what is possible and what aint. The bar is more than amply stocked, cocktails are well made and served in a no-nonsense way, the food is a composition of new and old classics, served with a twist and a shout. Highly recommended

Came here mid-week for lunch and found it quiet enough but some larger groups did come in after me. Would be wise to book a table for a larger party. Lovely atmosphere and decor with soft music in the background. Little booth seats as well as tables next to the window benches. The window benches were made comfortable by the variety of cushions scattered along it. Not a huge menu but enough variety to suit all tastes. I opted for a Crabbie’s ginger beer and was brought this quickly by a smiling member of staff. I ordered the pancakes with peaches and maple cream however they had run out of peaches. The waitress told me they could do berries instead so I still got the pancakes. I also ordered a side of truffle fries for a sweet and savoury contrast. The food did not take too long to arrive and was fresh and hot. The pancakes with maple cream were delicious, with the berries slightly tart to offset the sweetness of the cream. Also nicely presented with a dusting of icing sugar and a fan of strawberries. The truffle fries were well cooked and seasoned. A friendly little place in Newington which can get quite busy. There is free WiFi available if you ask staff for the password, and the toilet facilities are clean albeit cold. Prices are average for bar food but of better quality than some I have experienced before.

Myself and my friend visited here and we both ordered the burger with a side of onion rings. The burgers were okay nothing special, not much flavour. However the onion rings were so burnt and were not nice at all. The food wasn’t worth the money we paid In our opinion.

Visited tonight Saturday 11th January 2010. Jordanno produced the best Mojito’s as always (we are locals). He only serves fresh raspberries, strawberries, etc. In his cocktails. Which is great and not what you’ll get even in the most “trendy” bars in Edinburgh as most use flavoured syrups. Customers need to request the best from bars and that’s what Jordanno does in Southpour.

Love the interior, the music and the friendly staff. The food is very good too so overall this is a great place to eat, drink and socialise.

Lovely drinks mixed by an Italian maestro. Exprseeo martini recommended. Would suggest you come here.

We spotted this on the way to the xmas market the previous night, we thought we’d give it a try for breakfast the following morning rather than a standard overpriced hotel breakfast.

Το περιβαλλον και το προσωπικο του Southpour έιναι ζεστό και φιλόξενο, το φαγητό πολυ καλό και το σερβις προσεγμένο! Ηταν το πρώτο μαγαζι που φαγαμε στο Εδιμβούργο και πραγματικά μας εκανε πολύ καλή εντύπωση.

I had been advised they were slow at serving but they were fine. staff friendly and attentive. Not a very varied menu - bog standard really - though I noticed a specials board after- they should have mentioned that to us. Wine was expensive but mains were ok.

Once we arrived we took a seat by the window and were fairly quickly served. However the wait for our food was rather long. After our long wait I got my ‘3 cut’ burger, my sister had the full Scottish breakfast and my dad just a side of toast. The full Scottish was nice, my burger with good but maybe a bit too many chips. Overall it was about £30 so it was a good price.

Great atmosphere, casual urban. Menu is eclectic - fresh, locally sourced and not pricey. Nice bar and the bartender, Giordano, is fabulous! Worth a visit if you want something different. A short bus ride south of the Royal Mile.
