Decent pub. Good pint of real ale

Good beer selection, friendly and fast service.

Great wee pub down the bottom of Broughton Street. Maybe not fashionable but definitely functional with great staff and good craic!

Cask & Barrel (Broughton Street) is a classical pub in Edinburgh. It has some tables also outside, but given the rainy weather in Scotland, I recommend to sit inside if there is space. Sitting inside gives you the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of the pub (even if it may be a bit noisy at times). Inside it is also possible to watch sports on big screens. The pub offers all the usual drinks of a pub starting from beer and whysky (Scottish classics). Definitely advised if you want to feel the Scottish vibes in Edinburgh!

A proper old-style boozer. Central bar in a large room with leather seating along the wallls and lots of beer-related paraphernalia on display. Great selection of cask ales, really enjoyed the Forsyth Juice.

There are no stars for food as I didn't have or see food. Excellent Ales and plenty of ones to choose from. Cheap compared to other pubs in Edinburgh.

Came for the euro final. Service was fabulous, Guinness was tasty. Crowded for a small place, but that's to be expected for an important match.

Stopped here for some lunch and it was fantastic. Atmosphere nice, beer tasty and food was excellent.

One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. Awesome for football watching too. Good screens, will play commentary and will even try to accommodate if you're 'smaller' club fan when your team happens to be on TV. Service has always been impeccable for me. Impressively quick and always really friendly. Helps if you are ordering pints but it's not called the Cask & Barrel without reason. Have never had food here so can't comment.

Good old pub had a good comfortable night

We were here twice. Once during the week when there wasn't that much going on and then on Saturday when a live band played cover songs. This is how you imagine a typical Scottish pub. The decor - bar with several draft beers, mirrors on the wall with typical pub advertising and TVs showing sports. The audience - locals. On the day with the live band - really nice people and ages from 20 to 70 all together having a lot of fun. The counter staff - quick and friendly. Was fun!

Good range of well kept ales. Friendly staff. Big, spacious, open-plan grand Victorian pub.

Quaint little pub with a very good selection of beers, very nice service, absolutely recommended.

What a great pub. They couldn't do enough for us to ensure we saw the rugby match of our team. Lovely pub.

Great real ale bar just off the beaten track..many many ales and beers to choose from,with some rotating ales. Always have the firm favourites. Good pub lunch from 12 till 2. Good bar to sit and while away an hour or two

Was turned away pretty rudely because they apparently do not accept U.S. licenses as valid IDs. They claim that it’s “not a valid form of identity in the UK,” which I genuinely have never heard. I have lived here for 1.5 years and have never had that problem. I’m sure their food is lovely, but be warned about their sham ID policy and service/attitude from bartenders as they may not necessarily be welcoming or accepting of tourists, visitors, and/or anyone from outside the UK.

Brilliant home cooking,served with genuine care and always, always what you want from good pub grub. The menu is small but it's all about quality and what they serve is excellent. Gail is the resident chef and she is the best.

I needed help to select a low gas content beer, and the barmaid was extremely helpful. Music was retro, but inobtrusive. Still my favourite bar of Broughton Street.

The first pint we had whilst visiting Edinburgh for 3 days was at the Cask & Barrell. Lovely staff, a good selection of beer and a great chilled atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming

Always been a go-to when in the outskirts of the city centre, great feel to this pub. I was on the irn bru and still managed to trip over a bollard outside. Great pub, Edinburgh Council however, I could have tripped into a car, so sort your roads out haha. But I survive to hopefully get a beer the next time 😂😂

Visited the Cask and barrel on a recommendation and I wasn’t disappointed. Great choice of real ales and my favorite was on, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord. Quite busy for a tea time which shows how good the beer is. I will be back when visiting Edinburgh

Friendly staff that greet you as you enter. Plenty of beers to choose from local and otherwise. As tourists we found it to be a perfect spot for a drink, lunch, and chatting with the staff. We came all three days we were in Edinburgh. 3£ lunch steak pie yes please!

Good selection of beers and a good place to watch the football. Lots of pubs around don't show any sport so this is a good place to watch.... Golf, soccer, American football it's all on.

The bar man (Jason?) is on the ball! Knows the punters by name. Girl spills wine, he's there in seconds with the blue towel. Knows the drinks and what suits you. Man possibly is the best bar tender in Edinburgh.

Classic Scottish pub, but don't everyone, one of my favourite pubs and I don't really do favourites.

Had a great night watching the rugby but was let down the following day with how an enquiry over a sentimental item id lost was dealt with. Was very obviously dismissed, no value in my custom or care over my item so not sure if be back again.

Good boozer, busy, quick service, and screens for sports. Great atmosphere overall.

Food stops early, around 1pm, despite much longer hours

Always a fab place, large and open. Multiply TVs showing different sports. Good selection of drinks. Been visiting this pub for decades.

Avoid at all costs! We visited on a Sunday afternoon (4pm) as was staying in the area. We went as family of 5 adults and a 4 month old baby who was fast asleep in her pram. We sat down and one of our group had ordered drinks at the bar when another bar member approached him and asked "do you own the kid?". When he answered yes, we were told that kids were not welcome even though the first bar maid had started getting our drinks ready so we can only assume that the kids rule was a facade as they didn't want to serve non locals !! The rudeness of the staff was the worst we have experienced. We don't mind if kids are not allowed but the staff approached the situation in the most horrific and ignorant way! Avoid this bar as there are so many more fantastic establishments close by! Best of luck to the bar staff when they have their own "kid" !!

First time in here as we met up with friends and family. Nice place but upset that TV was on with Andy Murray losing at tennis. Very distracting. But we really like the place good prices too.

If you like cask ale this the pub for you. Always 10 on offer and I've not had a bad one yet. Unfortunately this means I can't share with you how the staff respond when you take one back.

My family have been regulars for years and we attended to watch the rugby for my sister's hen/birthday. Staff a great laugh as always and great place to watch sport as multiple TVs. Seating outside is good on a warm day as it gets the sun into the evening. Make a cracking Bloody Mary. Great selections of pints and spirits comes in 35ml measures. An easy going place suitable for locals and tourists who want to experience a more traditional pub setting.

Found this place during an overnight stay in Edinburgh. Great for a few drinks and watched footie whilst there. Nice atmosphere.
