Decent place. good value for the money, Nd breakfast included. Avoid the Sticky tables in the bar if you can and a really loud banging door to the stairs keeping us awake at 4 am.

Unfortunately, I had a few problems on my arrival, the light inside the door wasn't working therefore couldn't see into the wardrobe ( this was fixed by day 4 of my stay) no central heating a portable plug in radiator was acquired. My room wasn't serviced the first night. Unable to shower, water too forceful. Bed extremely comfortable. tral

We stayed at the Caledonian for 2 nights whilst we attended a family wedding recently in Newcastle. The hotel was lovely and the staff were outstanding. Fab breakfast too! Highly recommend!

Stayed on an over night stop off. Our room was large and warm with a great shower. Check in was very good. Breakfast sadly was not as good. Due to the fact a coach tour was staying at the hotel some of the supplies at breakfast were quite depleted as the coach guests had already had breakfast even though we arrived to eat at 8.30am. Our table was directly inline with the breakfast room door that was propped open as was the main hotel entrance door for cases to be loaded onto the coach. This resulted in us sitting in a very cold draught. After several requests for the door to be closed it was but by this time we were very cold. There were very little cereal to choose from, the eggs and bacon were both very hard and almost no bread left in the baskets. There seemed to be no urgency in replenishing the items. Other than this all was fine.

Dreadful service from reception staff on Friday 26th July pm, so rude. Hotel room stank of smoking. Dated rooms, dirty shower head, cables hanging out the wall next to the headboard. Toilet had clearly not been cleaned as previous guest's 'deposit' still in there. Rowdy bar and noisy in the rooms above. The location is decent for going into Newcastle but Jesmond is generally not what it's made out to be. Just a haven for hen and stag parties, noisy and stinks of smoking wherever you turn. Will not return.

For a budget hotel, this place is my go-to when I stay in Newcastle. Rooms are well priced so you would expect them to be basic but actually they are well appointed, spacious, very comfortable beds and nice en-suite bathrooms. It can get z little noisy with local students socialising in the evenings but it does quieten down. Staff are what make this place though. I am just finishing mu breakfast right now and want to give Christina a shout out for her service! The reception team are lovely and helpful too. If you're doing a city break, great place to use as s base and great for business travelers who don't want to break the budget on expensive hotels.

Everywhere is clean within the hotel, bar, and terrace area. Food and drink not overly priced Which makes a change for a hotel bar. Bedroom and bathroom very clean and spacious. Bed comfortable. My only complaint is the room is so hot. Just a small window to open and a fan. Sadly where the power socket is located is too far from the bed to feel any real benefit from the fan☹️ Staff all very friendly and helpful. Many thanks to the bar staff for recommending Appleshed cider.

Nice clean rooms for a good price and in the heart of Jesmond. Rooms are quite outdated but still have all the necessary amenities and comfortable beds.

Great price for this hotel and can't fault the cleanliness. The shower was powerful and bed was very comfy with a good choice of pillows to choose from. It's a 30 minute walk or 10 min bus ride into Newcastle itself and the bus stop is a stones throw from the hotel. There is free parking on site as well which was handy for us. The decor in the bathroom was a little dated and the noise did travel both from guests returning late to their rooms and from outside as our window faced out towards the front, so just something to note if you're a light sleeper like me!

Small carpark at the back if you get there after 6 you've got no chance of getting a space and its all residential parking except near the shops on the other side of the road. Quick check no information given Room was the 1st floor A very old lift to take all levels Room was a good size as was the shower room Bed was comfortable WiFi excellent Shower hot and powerful The hotel has a bar on the ground floor which was very busy with students and unfortunately the windows were single pane so you could hear everything Breakfast not included Location is in Jesmond Street so very popular with students a few nice restaurants close by. Would stay again if in the area but try and get a room at the back of the hotel.

The hotel is in a prime location. The rooms are old and dated. The cleanliness is poor. The staff are friendly on the surface but don't care much. All in all, a 2 star hotel. This is not a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination.

A very nice hotel with breakfast included in the price when we booked. Lovely room with comfortable bed, high pressure shower and well presented decoration. Parking was around the back. It took a little while to find. Breakfast was a self service affair with a good range of cooked and continental foods.

I can’t fault this place. From the moment we walked in (with no table reservation) to the moment we left, we were treated well. The food was good and we cleaned our plates! My husband had fettuccine beef ragu from the signature pasta options. I had lasagne. Both were delicious. We also had a mixed salad which was fresh and tasty. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. Lots of families. Would recommend.

Quick lunch at the alchemist, we got a few sharer plates which were good, the only thing was there wasn't much duck to go on the pancakes. Really friendly service and nhs discount which was a bonus!

Walked the length of Newcastle, in the teeming afternoon rain, to dine here. Service was as dismal as the weather. When ordering drinks I asked which lagers were on draught, server turned to bar and recited, all I heard was Budvar on her half turn back to the table (of two). Asked for Budvar as the only option I caught. 10 minutes later another server came to say Budvar was off. I asked her to chose another lager for me, bearing in mind i had no clue from the previously muttered options; would think I asked her to donate a kidney. The food was great (verging on fantastic), but arrived lukewarm at best. This was pointed out politely when we were disinterestingly asked how everything was. "Oh" was the reply. Went to the bar to pay as server standing 2ft from us didn't hear, or chose not to, when we asked for the bill. At the bar, money taken, no curiosity about the experience. Walked out the front door, ignored by two servers standing there. Its a game of two halves, fantastic food and decor; abysmal hosting.
