We always visit Portmahomack on our annual holiday in the Highlands and have enjoyed several visits to the cafe. We found out last year that the cafe had changed hands and have visited again this year. Friendly staff and excellent food so still deserving of 5 stars.

I had a late lunch with my son here on Tuesday afternoon. My home made soup and scone were superb and my son had freshly cooked chicken with a lovely sauce. I have been coming to Portmahomack for many years, on holiday, and this is a wonderful addition to draw the crowds in! Service was first class and I will be returning to eat lunch here whenever possible.

We arrived past closing time (not realising) and the gentleman in the cafe invited us in regardless. We had tea and cakes. My carrot cake (huge slice) was served with fresh cream in a cute little jug. Hubby's scone had been heated up. Nothing was too much trouble, and we really appreciated it. Thank you!

Friendly staff, excellent service, in a clean bright small cafe. Their home made lentil and bacon soup served in a 500ml portion in large bowls was brimming with bacon, and very tasty. The Chicken Caesar salad sandwiches were in fresh bread which could have come out of an oven this morning.

We were seated in a very unwelcoming and perfunctory fashion. Two tables of four, obviously local, people were seated after us and both got served before us. That’s 8 orders in preparation before ours was even taken, which it still wasn’t. Unacceptable. We did let them know as we were walking out in disgust. Shame, as it looked good. Plus we are actually reasonably local ourselves and would have gone back if it had been good. Even though we live not far away we frequently come to this area in our motorhome and like to have a local repertoire of places to support.

As regular visitors we were delighted to hear it was re-opening after lock-down. We've since been twice and are happy to report everything is just as good as it always has been, and the new safety measures are not overly intrusive and easy to follow. It's recommended to book now, with the reduced capacity, but both times we've done so either the day before or in the morning on the day and had no trouble getting a table (it's yours for an hour, at the moment). On arrival there's hand sanitiser and a one-way system and we wore our masks except when we were sat down, but I'm not sure if that's mandatory as we saw others who didn't. The menu is unchanged and we can highly recommend the sandwiches and the paninis, both of which have a huge amount of options you can combine for fillings. The chips are also worth a try, although we usually share a portion to leave room for desert!Speaking of, there's just as much choice for cakes and I personally love the Bounty Bar, while my hubby is enthusiastic about the Chocolate Fudge Cake.We really are so pleased to be back here again, and it honestly never disappoints.

Having had great experiences eating here over the years and being very jealous of someone having an afternoon tea on one visit, I decided this year to book for myself and my husband and 4 friends for a celebration tea. I booked via Facebook and confirmed via the phone as I wanted to check that they could cater for 2 or my friends who are veggie & vegan.Although they stated it might not be as much as the other guests they were more than happy to try and cater for them. We arrived on a lovely bright crisp January day and were warmly welcomed by the staff and show to our reserved table. The cafe is lovely and bright , with some delightful craft items on display on the walls, and was lovely and warm just what you needed on a cold day. After we had sat down a large teapot was brought over and some freshly brew coffee was poured and they continued to refill them both all afternoon. There then arrived a three tiered cake stand packed with a range of sandwiches, and they were very careful to have separated the veggie options from the others. The sandwiches were all fresh and great tasting and a wide array of flavours. Next to arrive was another 3 tiers of cakes: home made scones, the largest cream filled meringues I have ever seen and then a large selection of slices of tray bakes. Finally our vegan friend was brought his own stand and we were really impressed by the selection of sandwiches and interesting looking cakes which all tasted great. We then spent the next 2 hrs eating & talking with our cups constantly being refilled. Unfortunately the last of the tray bakes beat us but they very kindly boxed them up for us to take home to enjoy over the next few days. Even though it was their closing time when we were leaving they had not tried to rush us, and even wished me a happy birthday. The tea is very good value at £9.75 each and when you add to that a warm atmosphere, friendly service and great tasting food what more could you want for a special treat

My husband and I visited today. We were freezing cold and hungry, after a morning working with livestock. We were covered in all sorts so you can imagine what we looked/smelled like. I popped my head in the door to ask if takeaway was available. We were greeted with a whole host of warmth. Just what we needed. We were encouraged to sit in, (despite our manky farm gear). Such a warm welcoming wee cafe with a lovely extensive menu. We enjoyed hot homemade soup along with homemade haggis/cheese and ham/cheese/chutney paninis. All served beautifully with crisps, salad and coleslaw. We will definitely be back and highly recommend. A lovely, friendly, clean place to eat in Portmahomack. Well done all, a credit to The Port!

Fazit: Uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert.

Piacevolissima scoperta, per caso, in quanto su TripAdvisor risultava chiuso la Domenica. Invece nei mesi di Luglio ed Agosto è aperto anche la Domenica.

The food was excellent, with a good menu to chose from. The food was fresh and tasty, the ladies in the cafe friendly and welcoming. A lovely stop up the coast.

We stopped at this community cafe after a long drive from central belt. We’d heard vg things about it via tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. A fabulous little place. Fresh soups, paninis and sandwiches , cakes and scones. All thoughtfully created and presented. Good coffee too! Staff very welcoming and helpful. The only downside I would imagine is size it is small so in peak season may be a little difficult to get seated but well worth the wait. Think they might do take away but not sure as didn’t ask but I just get the feel they’d not leave you high and dry. Definitely worth a visit. Right next to seaside too. Just a lovely place.

Despite being local-ish and coming for a wander in Portmahomack fairly regularly it's somehow taken us a year to actually try this lovely little cafe, which is definitely our loss!

7 of us turned up for lunch and the staff were very accommodating. We all had paninis or soup - the haggis and cheese panini came highly recommended. Coffee and homemade cakes finished our meal off brilliantly! Lovely atmosphere in the cafe with helpful and friendly staff. A great asset in this pretty village. We will definitely be back

We stayed at Taigh Ailean for our trip to Skye. We also had the opportunity to eat dinner there (Breakfast was included with our stay.) The dinner was so delicious! The view is lovely as you can see the loch from the windows of the bar. All the staff is fantastic and so friendly! I had a great dinner and I would describe it, but the menu changes to suit what is in season and available from the sea. Whatever you get, I guarantee it will be the best! Make sure you call ahead and get a reservation as it fills up quickly. I know that they also have live music, which would be great, but we didn't have any while we were there.

Agree with the other reviews. This is an unlikely place to find at the end of the world. We felt welcomed and in the main enjoyed our stay. The only downside was the cost for the 2 of us. £200 for a snack, breakfast, plate of curry and a bunkhouse bed with no shower and a outside toilet seemed breathtaking expensive. To put this into perspective, we go to a nice hotel each year for a winter break, that's more than we pay per day at the hotel with vastly more civilized amenities. I do understand there are logistics involved at Cape wrath. However for an 'ordinary' local Scottish person I'd be looking to stay at sandwood bay and make a lunch trip to the cafe as I simply can't justify the cost/value. However, it is altogether improbably situated and a must experience if you are doing a long walk. Just be prepae your expectations.

Your restaurant came highly recommended and the food and wine was absolutely superb. Unfortunately this is where the great experience ended as we have never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a restaurant by the people serving us, to the point that we couldn't wait to pay the bill and leave! We were the first table in the evening at 5pm and were seated right by the bar but we struggled to get eye contact with the staff who were either chatting behind the bar or staring into space. At no point did they ask us if everything was ok or if we wanted another drink. We tried to engage them in some chatter when they served us but to no avail. I don't know if in someway we offended them but we really could not work out what we had done wrong to be treated this way. Unfortunately we will not be returning, which is a shame as the food is excellent. Fortunately our evening was not completely spoiled as a visit to the local community centre in Nairn found us invited to a Ceilidh and a very warm welcome and fun evening.
