Love this cafe and it’s sister the River View. Such nice staff, good food. Just one thing always grates me… please, PLEASE invest in some proper cutlery?! Demeans a meal, or even just a snack, to be eating with the cheapest possible ‘camping’ style cutlery. Horrid. Please invest in some decent stuff, your food is worth it….

We called in here as it is much nicer than the big chain coffee shops...situated in what I think may have been the vestry of the church, it is a tiny place but absolutely full of character, with an ancient and beautiful fireplace, carved wood and stained glass. The coffee is excellent and I can definitely recommend that you spoil yourself and have a warm scone with jam and clotted cream. The service is both polite and friendly - we will definitely be back!

Happened across this beautiful church with many interesting stained glass windows. We had salmon & cream cheese bagel and bacon, avocado & chilli jam with a tea and latte. The food and drinks were delicious and served very quickly, the accompanying salad had a lovely dressing. The staff were polite, courteous and attentive. Sadly during our visit, another customer was unreasonably rude and obnoxious towards the staff, however they responded very respectifully and professionally. I will certainly be back on my next visit to Shrewsbury.

Only had coffee but food looked good. Thought abut going back after 3pm as receipt had voucher for 50% off lunch item after 3pm. Unusual, because it looked as if the whole nave was used as a church seating, when required, then moved about to be cafe seating. And toilet was in a pod inside one aisle. Dog friendly (I think) but we did sit outside.Good adherence re COVID ie tables well set apart, screen etc

The Cafe at St Mary's is run by Battlefield 1403 so all the food served is fresh and local. The quality is excellent and its all reasonably priced. However, the vestry the cafe is located in is rather small and it can become very busy at lunch time, a seat is not always guaranteed but its definitely worth a try. Takeaway food and drinks are also available, if you can't get a seat.

Excellent location and very pleasant staff. Both scones and coffee are excellent. Light lunches often offer something a little different, for example 'jacket potato with Stilton cheese and walnuts' and the prices are reasonable. Many cafe owners could learn a lot by visiting here!Only one tiny toilet in what seems to have been a broom cupboard lets it down as this is used by everyone that visits the church in addition to the cafe. That said it's only a toilet!

The little café is tucked away at the back of St Mary's church, so it's a good idea to admire the church first and then head for lunch (or vice versa!). I was there from about 12:15 to 1:15 and most of the time there were no other available tables. Light lunches are the mainstay - I had a ploughman's, with 2 very large pieces of cheese (local, I think), plus a ramekin of crumbled/lighly grated? Cheddar. This latter one was a bit strange, I've never seen cheese served like that before. In France, where I live people would have had a heart attack! :) Neverteless, apart from that oddity, the platter was very good and excellent value. Other similar platters included quiche, patés etc. Standard lunch fare, but well-above average in quality. You have to order at the counter, which is not immediately obvious, and the staff bring the food to your table. I was very pleased to have discovered this little out of the way gem, especially as this is the church where my great-grandparents were married about 150 years ago!

I really like the idea of this cafe - in a beautiful church in Shrewsbury town centre. The food is lovely. But the staff.....less so. I’ve been there twice and been made to feel, on both occasions, like I’m putting them out, Yesterday they turned away several customers telling them they were closing. It was only 3.30pm. We were told they were closing when we arrived at at 3.10pm. And also told we were only allowed a cake as they couldn’t do any other food....so close to closing. It was embarrassing. The menu and signage clearly says they shut at 4pm. Why do they not want any customers after 3pm? Customers are what give them their jobs! After turning away the last customer at 3.40pm they then cashed up very noisily counting change into the till while we ate our cake and drank our tea. We certainly didn’t feel valued, welcome or encouraged to return. Such a shame,

We followed that with bakewell tart and barra brith, both lovely, the barra brith had a nice gingery taste. We had a pot of tea and a cappuccino, both went down nicely. Only popped in for refreshment after tramping round the very interesting city of Shrewsbury, but was tempted by the scones - good choice; they were huge, light and went down an absolute treat. Hubby had a cheese one whilst I opted for a fruit one - they were both delicious. I understand that they are made by nearby Battlefield 1403 - and having tried them I now want to go and visit Battlefield 1403!! The staff were lovely, it doesn't seat an enormous amount but certainly the prices are very good and it's a lovely, interesting old church that's getting a new lease of life. It's also interesting for the feat that was attempted in the 1800s - see the plaque near the outer door. Well worth a visit (if only for the scones!!).

The coffee and tea was excellent and those who wished had a huge scone (one between two is really sufficient if you then want lunch) or cake. The service was good, cafe very clean and the toilet (unisex) very clean, plenty of room and hooks for coats, bags etc. All at very reasonable prices. The whole family went there today, we have been several times before and it never disappoints. It serves things like baked potato with a variety of fillings and lasagna as well as cake desserts. It is a very unusual and pleasant setting inside the old church, we highly recommend it.

A lovely hidden cafe, tucked away inside the historic St Mary's Church Shrewsbury. We popped in for a warm drink, however the food looked good and then another customer recommended the Beef Bourguignon. So I went ahead and ordered it, it was served with a jacket potato. Lovely tasty tender beef and at under a fiver I think good value too. We left to the sound of classical singing as "The 3 Sopranos" were performing live, they are harmony singers available for concerts, weddings and events.

We have been visiting St. Mary's for almost 23 years, mainly to perform music in the wonderful acoustics. So on our latest visit on a day when traffic and parking was an issue in town on the run up to Christmas, finding the cafe in the rehearsal venue was just what we needed.Nice coffee and snack just before the rehearsal set us up well. I felt a little squashed in on the only table that was available otherwise a lovely venue for a welcome snack.

Hidden away in the far corner of the church is a cracking cafe that serves superb locally sourced food, hot snacks, cakes, hot drinks, cold drinks and salads. I think all of the tables were occupied whilst we had lunch and a continual turnover of satisfied customers suggests that this place is popular despite it having no signage that I can remember outside the church. If you are looking for a reasonably priced lunch in a quaint setting look no further. On a separate note I also want to mention the two very friendly and knowledgeable church guides who pointed out the whereabouts of the green man in the church ceiling, enjoyed the chat.

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.

we always try to come here when we can get in and don’t fancy cooking one ourselves. the meat selection is always good and very generous, their roast potatoes are the best - lovely and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. it is a carvery so can help yourself. they unfortunately don’t have any mash but we just add extra roasties! their gravy is lovely and homemade with the meat juices in. the staff are lovely and attentive. our favourite place to go for sunday lunch!

We booked for dinner as we knew the White Lion had reopened for food with a new chef. We were not disappointed the food was delicious, we had the rib eye steak, the sea bass special and the penne vodka. All were beautifully cooked and served. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be eating here again.

We are regular visitors to the Red Lion in Myddle. We return every time because the food and service is second to none. We always receive a warm welcome and we know how hard Pete and Jackie and staff work to make sure that their guests are not disappointed. If you fancy a meal out around Shrewsbury (lunch or dinner) then look no further than the Red Lion. You won’t regret it.
