The Butt Inn in West Berkshire

Thank you for such a lovely Valentine’s dinner. The food was amazing. Started with a glass of champagne which is always nice, a selection of warm breads and salmon starter, belly pork was to die for and Stilton with fruit cake. Lovely restaurant with really friendly staff especially Farren. We will definitely be back. Excellent, thank you.

We have been a few times and enjoyed the food, todays visit was average which was fine , time to pay and was told they didn’t except £50 notes , there was no signs to say this , our bill was £65 and wanted to pay £50 cash and the rest on card , I asked the young waitress if they had a pen to check it wasn’t fake, her reply was no not personally she made no effort to check if one was available,I ended up paying by card but now wished I refused and made them take my CASH payment, will think about returning again as didn’t feel like we was welcomed..

Had an amazing meal last night at this pub. Food was amazing and staff were very attentive. It’s the second meal we’ve had recently and I can’t fault a thing. They were super helpful about bringing a cake for my son’s birthday and decorating . Highly recommend these guys

Service is slow but staff are friendly. Took ages to get the menu and over an hour for the food to come despite not being busy. Food was not great, noodles sloppy and pasta overcooked. Dissapointing.

My new fav place some really tasty original food i had . 8hr Rolled Pork with apple mash and creamed cabbage oh plus crispy onions. On my last 2 vists Yummy.

We always have such an incredible time at the Butt Inn! Mort recently we attended a wreath making evening there and had the best evening! The food is always such good quality and the service and vibe is so warm. It’s really the kind of pub that feels like everyone’s ‘local’!

Friendly, cosy restaurant with Beautiful food. The staff are amazing and friendly but the Food is definitely the star attraction here. This is not pub food it’s Michelin quality in a super relaxed cosy setting. A hidden gem

Massively made to feel unwelcome if your face don't fit you aint made to feel welcome asked if they was serving food as the children wanted some chips and was refused twice and yet they began to serve chips to a table of children mums and dads 20 mins later!!! I was disgusted if your not a local/regular don't bother with this one also the beer tasted like the pipes hadn't been cleaned for a while absolutely won't return !

We popped in today for some food but due to time of year they were fully booked. However we stayed for 2 rounds of drinks , very expensive, but we sat at the table by the open fire which was lovely and cosy. All was ruined when a very frosty bar staff came to stoke up fire. She accused me of sitting too close to the fire that's why it wasn't giving out heat. Very rude.

It's a nice pub but quite "cold" in terms of customer experience. We were showed a table which was not even the one we booked (the others were all full). After we finished our dinner we were chatting at the table and the waitress brought us the bill without us even asking. Even if this is "standard practice" I find that quite unsettling as it kind of tells "get out" (it was like 10pm). Food is ok but way too expensive in my opinion.

Table for 3 for Sunday lunch each of us had a different meal, each found our choices to be as expected and hoped for. Brilliant efficient speedy service, from friendly smiley welcoming staff. Food was fabulous fresh, hot, timely and delicious. Thank you all at the Butt Inn, never disappoint. Highly recommend.

A really good interesting menu. Unlike most places where menus are quite standard. Food comes out hot and fresh and is very tasty. Staff are very friendly. Highly recommend.

I think four empty plates sums up our experience of lunch at the Butt Inn. Very tasty food and such a good choice on the menu. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Very comfortable surroundings and very reasonable prices too. Thank you.

We have eaten at the Butt for years and always book for special occasions. We went for our son's 40th and this is the 1st time we've been disappointed. It's probably because we've always had the best roasts which is why we recommend to all our friends. This time however things were just just average. The biggest disappointment were the roast potatoes which weren't crispy but rock hard. The potato inside looked like it had been either cooked from frozen or overcooked because it wasn't white and fluffy but almost dark yellow. I've still given a 4/5 rating because the service was great and all the waitresses were friendly and helpful. This has always been our favourite place to eat and we will give it another go in the hope that this was an off day and hopefully a one-off 🤔

We came over a year ago here and have thought so much about coming back but life has been busy. I didnt think it could get any better but it so has, very pleased to see the landlady Liz is still at the helm and the pub looks even more comfortable and so welcoming, she credits her team with their success which is lovely to hear. The food is outstanding with some great specials, Its a no nonsense great food, great service and an all round wonderful experience.

Had a great meal tonight. Steak and ale pie,yum yum, chicken schnitzel yum yum. Lovely puddings, nice ambience and excellent service. We'll definitely be back

We've been to The Butt for our Christmas Day meal for the last 2 years and are booked in again this year. We've tried a few over the years and nothing beats The Butt for Christmas, it's not too busy, you're not rushed and there is a lovely chilled vibe. The food is so so good and the atmosphere is warm and homely, the staff can't do enough to make your experience a great one. We went for Sunday dinner today and again had great service, Sarah was really lovely and couldn't do enough for us.

The Butt Inn is truly an amazing place. Friendly staff, great food and such a nice place to sit, eat and drink. Sarah was a fantastic waitress and always checked in to ensure we had everything we needed and was really friendly and polite. The food was awesome and hats off to the chef 👍🏻 for accommodating me as I decided to freestyle and change the menu 🤣

This used to be our go to but hadn’t been for a while after our previous visit was disappointing but quite local & like to support local when we can so decided to give it another go. Unfortunately the lunch offer which enticed back had been rescinded via an updated Facebook post which we hadn’t seen - not ideal but we decided to stay anyway. Food was served quickly but we were the only people there at the time. Chose the garlic mushrooms on toast with poached egg but the egg was bordering hard boiled & the mushrooms didn’t have any garlic flavour. The other meal was just OK - the gammon was overcooked & a bit dry but the fried egg was at least runny. Fed it back to the staff & whilst very friendly & understanding of our concerns there was no attempt at service recovery. Due to time constraints we had to eat & go so couldn’t wait for things to be remade. One thing we have noticed over the course of the year of us being semi regular is that the portion sizes have definitely decreased e.g chicken schnitzel & only one piece of toast for the mushrooms seemed a bit small for £10. A shame but will be a while before we are back.

The best Sunday roast and i will absolutely recommend the cauliflower cheese side …… just sooo yummy Also the staff are fantastic and very attentive A real must

My husband and I took my elderly parents here for lunch. We hadn’t booked but we received the warmest welcome from all the staff. The pub was lovely and warm with an open fire.and was spotlessly clean. The menu catered for a wide range of tastes and the lunchtime menu had smaller portions of main meals. We sample four different dishes and were all pleased with the presentation, the taste and that the food was lovely and hot. I was particularly pleased by the way the staff interacted with my father who has memory issues, they showed him patience and compassion which you don’t often find. We will certainly return.

This pub has everything going for it, from the excellent food, brilliant atmosphere to the amazing friendly staff. Well done all! (John & Lucy)

A first visit - which will not be the last. We visited on a Sunday, and from the moment we arrived till the time left we felt welcomed. The food was so good, the service was fast and the staff attentive. The staff were a credit to this place. So often a venue will put a really nice looking picture of the food on the website, and so often it doesn't match - This was not the case at The Butt Inn

We had such a lovely evening here and already looking forward to going back! The food was delicious, could not find fault at all...I would highly recommend the garden sharing platter! 😋 But most importantly for us, we were made to feel so welcome from the minute we set foot inside to the moment we left 🥰...we had 4 dogs with us and the staff could not have been more accomodating...they gave our fur babies lots of fuss and our waitress Sarah was exceptional! She's a real credit to the restaurant, and she was also an expert on the whisky selection which my husband really appreciated! 😁 Such a humble pub, with a lovely warm atmosphere on a chilly evening...it's a full thumbs up and waggy tails from us!! ❤️

I stopped en route for a quick ½ pint in the middle of the afternoon. Lovely little pub. Very nice craft beer. Never been here before, as I don't live nearby, but if I did, I'd certainly be a frequent customer.

An excellent Sunday lunch for four. Good location with an attractive dining area. Great service, superb food, beef just how we like it, with an amazing selection of vegetables and fab roast potatoes. Even the chef popped out to say hello. Plus all good value!

Just came by with a pal for a couple beers and some grub, had the beer battered fish and chips with mushy peas and a side of crispy potato bites, the food was great, the staff were lovely, I’ll definitely be coming by again in the future. Edit : Came back a couple of weeks after my original visit with a couple mates on our day off work, it was great, I tried the chicken tenders and wings this time along with some profiteroles for desert, the homemade sauce with the chicken tenders was amazing, I’d highly recommend this place to anyone!

Drove past several times this year & always looked busy. So we visited for the first time on Sunday and was not disappointed. Great food (roast beef was fab!), service with a smile from all members of the team, including the chef who popped out to say hello. They couldn't have made us more welcome - will definitely be back👍

Went here on Sunday, we both decided to have the beef roast dinner - well we were not disappointed, it was generous, full of flavour and packed with different vegetable, Yorkshire, roasted potatoes, carrots and parsnips. The beef was tender and cooked to perfection. My husband always prefers a home roast but commented, “ that’s the best roast I’ve had away from home!” A true compliment. The staff were attentive, polite and efficient. I would highly recommend a visit and we will be back again very soon. Ps our apple and raspberry crumble was great too. Well done Butt Inn.

Popped in as in the area and had looked at local reviews online. Luckily we got a table. We had both pies which were delicious along side fresh vegetables. Really great service too. Great experience - really homely !

I had an excellent meal. The beef and ale pie was an individual homemade pie with shortcrust pastry, and there was a lot of beef which was very tender. All the vegetables were fresh seasonal and cooked perfectly. The meal even came with a side bowl of additional gravy.

Great food, beer, and service again. I must have visited over 10 times now in 4 years! We will visit again. :-) We visited again last night, and the pub still serves really good quality food and nice cold beer. The staff are very friendly and when I'm next working again in the area I will be back.

Lovely beer garden and the menu looked amazing, however when we wanted to place a food order, we were told it would be half an hour before we could place a food order. So we went to the garden to enjoy our beers in the sun, and came back half an hour later to order food, only to be told it would be another 15 minutes before we could place an order because the kitchen was busy. I asked if we could put an order in and we’d be happy to wait for it to come out, but was told no, to come back in 15 minutes to order. Had another beer in the garden and left without any lunch! A shame as the garden was lovely and the menu looked good. Good for beers but don’t expect to be fed in a hurry!

Me and my family stopped at butts inn before a concert and we were met with outstanding hospitality and service. The food was amazing and the owners were kind and told us about the recent ownership. I suggest that anyone stopping over gives this homely pub a try

Just had a great meal at The Butt Inn for my Mums birthday. The food is excellent, really good menu, dishes well presented and very tasty! The staff cannot do enough for you and were so polite and welcoming. To top it off we all felt it was great value! Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast. It was a party of 11 and we had pre ordered. Food was delicious and very attentive service. A great family meal out.

I'd like to give the Butt Inn five stars and based on my first visit, I would have. My daughter and I visited on a Saturday afternoon and had an excellent lunch. I had the steak & ale pie, she had a burger. The following Saturday, however, we arrived just before 8pm and were turned away for dinner, apparently they were too busy. I'm not really sure, the hostess wasn't very explanatory. Would I visit again? Perhaps, but likely not for a dinner service.

Exceptional food, a large and varied selection, fair pricing and portions, and very warm and accommodating staff. One of the best pubs in the area. We will be back.

Got here after an hour and half drive for a sub standard Guinness and to be told we couldn't order food despite it being quiet.

The food was lovely, we went on a Sunday afternoon, there was a good mixture of Roasts and other items on the menu if you didn’t fancy one. Great service too. Weirdly can’t accept tips via card so make sure you have cash!

The pubs looking fantastic, immaculately clean throughout, the scented candles and background music make the whole pub very tranquil and very comfortable. This pub is a real credit to Liz and punch partnerships... An amazing Landlady and really beautiful building Wow ... If only it was nearer to home 😍 this place... One of my favourite venues !! -------- Previous feedback --------- The is a beautiful country pub with huge outdoor and indoor seating. The new Landlady is very welcoming and has been busy putting her stamp on this place... Very clean and the attention to detail is clear to see. A really pleasant venue to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet on a hot summer day or cosy up inside in beautiful décor when the cold weather is in.

Lovely pub which is well presented with a nice garden. The food is very good and has some different choices on the menu to the usual pub food. The staff were friendly and efficient. I will definitely return to eat here.

Stopped on chance for a late lunch with my grandson. Place very welcoming, food good and service excellent. The ladies made a bit of a fuss of the lad which was appreciated. Not been here before but will return for a more adult evening.

Was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the great value week-night deal. Excellent, friendly service too. Easily better overall than all the pubs I've eaten at in the surrounding area recently.
