Lots of menus to peruse! Too many? Some strange assignations around us! We shared a black pudding stack starter! Very tasty & filling! Bit of a bind having to go to bar, order & pay every time! But there's been a spate of "runners" recently were told! My companion had the Caesar salad, me the mixed fish special! She couldn't finish her salad, it was clear that all fish; cod, calamari, fish cakes, prawns were battered, but too much so, for me anyway. Left a lot of batter & ate fish. Lovely. We don't like leaving food but did! Young Scouse lad, front of house was nice, refreshing style! We left happy, full, didn't bother with a final drink. Prefer table service. Spoiled by bandidos!

Sunday lunch with the family and a very enjoyable experience. In spite of being busy, Cain and Millie who took our orders and served our food were friendly and polite. We all had a roast dinner, the vegetarian members of our party were very happy as were the meat eaters. All the food was hot and delicious. We had to find room for puddings and were so glad we did. The crumble was certainly a highlight. We can't wait to return.

First visit today since the reopening for Sunday lunch. Very warm welcome and plenty of room at our table. Our main server was Cain. He was a delight. ❤️ Very friendly, knowledgeable, and lovely to our elderly Dad. We all decided on Sunday roast. One beef, one lamb, one mixed meat, and 2 vegetarian. All served very efficiently by Millie. Very impressed. All came with a large Yorkshire pudding, roast and mashed potatoes, and lots of gravy. We all had our own dish of veg, which consisted of cauliflower and brocoli cheese and carrot and swede mash. All the food was very hot and very tasty. 😃 The meats were cooked to perfection, and the stockpot gravy thick and yummy. It would have been rude to turn down dessert, so we ordered Biscoff cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding with custard, apple and raspberry crumble with ice cream, chocolate brownie sundae 🍨 and a piece of lemon drizzle cake and a cup of tea for Dad. 🍋 We had a taste of each and all delicious. 😋 We will be back soon. There are so many other things we want to try! 😁 🤤

Excellent food and great selection of food from various menus. Had prebooked table in restaurant but due to funeral function had to eat in bar area. Service was good despite being very busy. Car park was an issue as extremely busy and only 1 disabled bay which was not near front door. Would definitely go again as the food was excellent.

There is little point in me commenting too much on the food or service as it was awful. The food was cheaply thrown together and the staff clearly knew as they didn't want to check how things are. I assumed it may have been a bad night, but when a few of us went back for a drink earlier this month on a Saturday evening, the place was dead. It is such a lovely venue, it baffles me why owners can't get the food and service right. I gave it a chance. Won't again.

Had a mini baby shower here and everything was great. The buffet was reasonably priced and very tasty, and special diets were very well catered for. The staff were also super friendly and helpful. Thank you for a lovely day!

Visited recently for lunch. Food is very good, however I feel that the drink prices here are overpriced. Otherwise no issues.

I want to start by saying the waiter was brilliant.. he took our order and wrote everything we didn't want, its a shame the kitchen staff don't listen to requirements.. Starter.... garlic mushroom with Stilton... I asked if I could have no Stilton was offered cheddar I said no cheese... it came I could taste cheese to the point my partner ate most as he thought I was being fussy... mains... asked for no pickle or tomatoe on the dirty burger.. came with pickles and tomatoe...and had to ask were the rest of the burger meal was the meal never came with the hashbrown onion ring and chicken wing untill we asked were it was... order fish chips no tartar or mushy peas... came with tartar and mush peas.. Sunday dinner was ok had to ask were the veg was for the meal as it never came with the main.. plus we noticed after we ate every other Sunday dinner came with a pot of gravy which we never got.. puddings.. all puddings came and had to once again ask were the rest of the order was which was ice cream. he stated he would scoop it out . after everyone was half way through there desserts WASTE OF MONEY.. I did state when the mains came out about the issues to the manager.. but she wasn't intrested untill I mentioned to the waiter at paying that he should have a word with the kitchen staff because our requirements hadnt been met and luckily the cheese requirement wasn't a intolerance and only a preference.

Fantastic location and excellent service front of house, from Myles and Cain. Extensive food and drinks menu, beautiful decor and furnishings. We would definitely return and recommend wholeheartedly. Thanks to all the staff.

We went to the Butlers Arms for lunch today. I ordered seabass , £18 as a treat and thinking it would be a lovely healthy lunch . How wrong !! The seabass was so hard and dry that it was impossible to cut . It had obviously been overcooked to the extreme and then left standing around to dry even further . It was inedible. It is a shame because it was our first visit but will be our last . We were not asked how our food was and our plates were not cleared .

The village is blessed with three very different pubs:- The Railway is mainly a beer pub, the top pub, Clog & Billycock more of a family/children food outlet. The Butlers has had quite an "up & down" recent history:- nice building 4+ different areas:- a drinkers corner, doubling as eating area, the "other side" more for drinking & eating & dog walkers (wish they were better behaved - the owners, not the other end of the lead! Then there's an area above & below a drop in level, & finally an area ideal for christenings, birthdays, wakes & other family type dos! We popped in straight back from John Lennon, you can "Imagine" we were hungry! Julie was there, another guy & we ordered! We shared a black pudding starter. I had the "snake & ale pie. Having it next day too! We asked to thank the chef - Nathan appeared! Lovely lad who had produced nice nosh! Jenny said hello as we were leaving too! Pub nicely busy for 7pm on a Tuesday! Wow. I don’t even know where to start. But from start to finish the experience here at Butlers Arms was nothing short of amazing. Julie and her team went above and beyond to ensure we had a great night and what a fabulous night it was. I had so many comments on how fabulous the venue looked and how amazing the food was and the staff at Butlers arms are just fantastic and so accommodating. Nothing at all was too much trouble. We booked the back room for my fiancés 30th birthday meal and everything was just absolutely fabulous. I could not recommend this venue enough! It holds a very special place in our hearts now so thank you to Julie and your fantastic team xxx

Visited with friends for an evening meal, when I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc I was told they ‘thought there was only French’ not really good enough. my friend ordered a malibu and coke… no Malibu. At all. My husband ordered chicken tikka with boiled rice… again we were told there wasn’t any boiled rice. I love this place, I got married here 5 years ago but the lack of fundamental things was a disappointment. I ended up having warm rosé and because the staff were so busy I couldn’t be fagged complaining! That said, the food we got was excellent and I will go back ( prob with my own wine!! )

I booked a Mother’s Day lunch at 2pm at the Butlers Arms. The place was very busy and vibrant as soon as we arrived and we were welcomed by the very polite staff. It is bonus treat the pub is dog friendly in the bar area and the manageress even gave our Jude some water. The roaring fire is also a great feature on a cold winters day. For me personally I love the small simple menu. I see some of the other reviews asking for a much larger menu and I have to say I disagree with this concept other pubs seem to adopt. The new owners have hit the nail on the head with simple fresh pub food done well. For starters I opted for the pate whilst my mother had the prawn cocktail. Both a plentiful portion and full of flavour. To follow I opted for a fillet steak. This was the showpiece for me personally being a steak fan. Cooked perfectly medium rare. The chef even went to the trouble to serve the pan jus with the steak. Piping hot chips and a vodka tomato. Very nice touch. My mother opted for sea bass. Fresh fish on a bed of dauphinois potatoes, again simple but delicious. There is also a great wine selection and the beers on tap are very reasonably priced. Will be returning for sure!

Family and dog friendly pub, tasty home cooked food, excellent service, great atmosphere and lovely, friendly staff. Fairly priced menu, overall lovely experience. Great place to go if you like good old fashioned pub food which is a rarity nowadays.

Excellent lunch, food was great, 5 of us went all had different things and everyone enjoyed there meals, service was excellent and was busy for a Wednesday lunchtime, would highly recommend

Called in for Sunday lunch and it was simply perfect. We are local to the Butlers and have missed it whilst closed-but Julie and George are doing an amazing job with a great staff team. Great wine list and very reasonably priced. What’s not to love at this great country pub. Looking forward to summer evenings on the patio. See you again soon.

Had an incredible meal on Saturday at the Butlers. It was very busy in the restaurant, but we were well looked after throughout. The staff were exceptional, as was the food and cocktails. One of the best fillet steaks I’ve had in years, so tasty and cooked to perfection. Couldn’t fault anything. Will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends.

*disclaimer- I am related to a member of staff but have left a true review of our meal* The wait staff were very attentive, and provided all information we needed regarding specials, the meals were well cooked, and delicious. A couple of our party had slight dietary requests which were catered to perfectly. My steak was cooked beautifully, the veggie Halloumi (fish) & chips was also very well cooked - not rubbery as have had at other places. The puddings were also a hit, the salted caramel profiteroles in particular. The pub itself is in a lovely location and is very welcoming in atmosphere, and the price was very reasonable - especially considering the prices charged by other 'gastropubs' in the area. A fantastic night.
