I had previously had an outstanding burger there, however this time I went I ordered the "succulent piri piri chicken on the bone", it was certainly on the bone but it was also certainly not succulent. It was quite dry and it appeared to have been deep fried then just had piri piri dumped on top. It had the taste of a chip shop chicken and the edge of it where the chicken was cut at butchers had completely dried out like when they deep fry them. The staff were friendly but the food was worth 8 quid or so not the 13 I payed. Nevertheless I ate it because I was hungry and didn't want to wait another half an hour for a replacement because i was eating with friends. I was really looking forward to it but was quite disappointed.

Called in for a couple of soft drinks a two Paninis on our lunch break, we weren't expecting them to be served with chips, so nice surprise and great service too! We sat out in the garden making the most of the lovely weather, couldn't fault our visit, thank you, we will be back.

Absolutely beautiful food thank you Matt and kitchen team, the 2 ladies behind the bar where very friendly as well. Will definitely be back again next time we are in town.

Unbothered, unapologetic and unacceptable. This morning me, my partner and our friend went to go and have breakfast. We live just over the road and used to go to the butlers bell a lot when it was the Wetherspoons but haven’t been in much since it changed to Davenport’s. I arrived at 10:40am, found a table and we placed our order around 10:50am. Initially, I was concerned by the service (or lack of). The bartender, who we later discovered was a manager, input the order wrong a number of times and had to be corrected on several occasions before getting it correct. They then haphazardly splashed some orange juice in a glass and slammed it down on the side spilling it around the glass. We weren’t off to a great start but we went and waited for our food. 30 minutes later and the food hadn’t arrived so I went inside just to ask how long the wait time was. I was met with “the kitchen did say it was a 30 minute wait”, new information to me but I was reassured they would go and check where it was. 20 minutes later the food finally arrived… or some of it did. One of the meals was completely missing and we were told it had mistakenly been taken to another table. When the two of us who had meals looked at the plate we were missing a number of items from the advertised breakfasts. Eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms. There was very little attempt at an apology with just one of the members of staff claiming responsibility for the mixup but nothing further from the “manager”. We were told the other breakfast would be out in 5 mins so we waited… 10-15 mins passed and nothing had come so we decided we would leave and get a refund. Nobody checked if the food was okay or if there were any issues so I had to explain to the “manager” who was signed in on the till system as ‘Jacob’ but I’m assuming this wasn’t their login given the complete lack of apology or professionalism. I explained we had missing items and one breakfast which never arrived after being there for an hour so I wanted a refund for the breakfasts. I was told that because we’d accepted the other two breakfasts they would not refund them but only the one which didn’t arrive and that it was not possible for them to refund the other two. I was then handed cash from the till in the total of about £11, slightly more than the cost of one breakfast. I explained that I had paid on card and wanted the refund on the same method of payment, again I was told this just wasn’t possible for them to do. First time going there to eat since it changed hands and it will definitely be the last. Poor service, poor quality food and generally a total lack of care or compassion for the customer.

Just had the worst food ever in spoons, no beer, poor service and absolutely diabolical food. The manager could even be bothered to iron her own shirt, attitude was like it or lump it! What the hell is going on in the UK, weatherspoons is renown for good value and cheap ale but the Bell failed miserably, get a grip, no wonder it was empty!!!

Ordered breakfast. When I asked if the price was correct as I thought it was less I was told it was the correct price. When I received my breakfast it was the wrong one and was told that's what I asked for. Even if it was it was it was missing the hash browns. The food was cold too. All the meals ordered were cold. We we're to scared to complain as the woman that served us was so abrupt how she spoke and didn't seem bothered. Awful food and rude staff.

We travelled down to Stafford to do the Isobel Park Run and came here for our breakfast after. 7 of us in total. Lovely building with the food and drink you usually expect in a good spoons. What made this visit so special was Isabel the absolutely lovely waitress who always had a smile on her face. She went out of her way to make sure everyone received exceptional costumer service and she is definitely in the right profession. Every Wetherspoons needs an Isabel , shame it’s so far away as we would definitely be returning again and again

Currently sat in the Butlers Bell and feel compelled to write this review to congratulate the amazing staff who work here! The community spirit is overwhelming with the warmest staff members who are incredible in their care and attention to their customers. I had a small breakfast that was delicious. Served on a hot plate which is always something amiss with many restaurants. Just a very lovely experience all round! Again, well done to the amazing staff for running this place with a very warm, warm hug!

Ordered the bbq burger. The bun was clearly frozen as it was falling to bits, bacon was precooked and simply warmed up, cheese on burger was stone cold, bacon was cold, burgers tasted so cheap and nasty, lettuce was nom existent, there was 2 slithers of onion. Onion rings were chewy. To summarise - food was rank. Do not eat here expecting a decent meal.

Most people going into a Wetherspoons know what to expect, and this is no different. Good ale choice at competitive prices, decent/nothing fancy food. The staff were friendly.

Tonight we visited Wetherspoons, the butlers bell, we were served by the most amazing waitress called Isabella! She went above and beyond serving us our food cleaning our table ensuring we were comfortable and checking our food was okay. Isabella was much more than a waitress she provided excellent cheer, good humour and made us feel incredibly welcome. We will certainly go back and hope that Isabella is there again! Thank you Isabella for making our evening so thoroughly enjoyable with lots of laughs!

I use wetherspoons on a fairly regular basis - tonight I was in the Butlers Bell Greengate Street Stafford and staff members Chelsea and Jordan spent approx 30 mins looking after a young gentleman whose health suddenly worsened - they went out of their way to care for him in a wonderful manner and booked him a taxi home and assisted him from the premises safely - credit to both of them - service certainly doesn't go unrecognised! - I always receive wonderful service from all your outlets by the way - Dave

Stopped off on the way to Manchester for breakfast and what a great little find. Food was piping hot, service was fab and I was even offered a choice of something alternative on my breakfast as I don’t eat eggs. The staff both at the bar and waitressing were really friendly and helpful. The price of the meal was great value too, £13 something for 1 large brekkie and one reg veggie breakfast and 2 hot drinks. Really couldn’t fault it as drinks were even refills. The atmosphere was okay, a mixture of clientele, passing through or regulars. It was clean and tidy and nothing was left on the tables too long. All in all really impressed and would definitely be happy to visit again when heading up north again. Well done staff on fabulous service

Absolutely amazing trip! The service was incredibly quick and everything was done to a high standard. A lady named Izabella helped us with everything and every time I come here she is the one to make my day! I hope this helps her like she helped us!

I chose the small breakfast, and the hash browns w ere readily replaced by toast. The meal was served promptly, and was delicious. The J20 was offered with a slice of orange, and the whole meal was excellent value. Service from Faye was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Went here for lunch today. The Camp Manager today was terrible... the coffee machines had no milk & when he filled them up he poored it over the floor then wiped it up with his mask! When the food arrived the eggs were not cooked & were snotty so I asked for them to be cooked properly but the same camp Manager reply " 8f you want well done eggs SWEET you need to ask for well done eggs"! I said " I dont want weldone eggs I would just like them cooked not raw"! So he took my meal away back to get the eggs cooked properly or so I presumed! In the mean time my husband was eating his meal...then finished his meal.... 20 mins later my meal still had not arrived, so I went to query it. A polish waitress did not understand my English speaking at all!!! & passed me to the other waitress next to her, who was infact the person who took my order in the 1st place.... she walked off & a young lady behind the bar then interveaned. She appologised & said that the camp manager had gone home & she had been left with all the mess.... I felt sorry for her, she was very polite & after checking on her walkie talkie, she confirmed my meal had been thrown away? She offered for it to be re cooked but I asked for a refund. All in all we wasted a whole hour in this place waiting for food that didnt arrive 😤 Weve had a few problems here over the years.. like cold food, waiting to long for food ect ect but this tops it & I would not bother returning again or recomending it untill weatherspoons puts some decent managers in place so that customers do not have to put up this. Its Terrible customer service!!

Truth be told, I've barred myself from Wetherspoons' establishments because of Tim Martin. However, if you want a pepperoni pizza and a pint for about eight quid before going to see a comedy gig at, for the sake of argument, The Gatehouse, Stafford, this place is fine. Pizza crust good. Bit too much cheese on the pizza. Staff, (who need to make a living whatever you think about Wetherspoons' owner) were lovely, especially a Polish lady.

In Stafford for a few days. Lunch at The Butler's Bell, I give a very good rating for friendly efficient service from all members of staff. Standard food, cheap and well kept beer. What's not to like?

So went for a quick lunch last minute thing, ordered at table which was really easy. Drinks came out fast followed by food. I have to say the 2 young gentleman that served us were amazing they were effecint,polite,funny and very accomadating. The food was good at the end on the day it was very reasonable for the price . If I had to.critize I would say the table needed a good.clean but in fairness it.was quite busy but if we had asked they would of done it in a flash Just needed to highlight not normally one to comment but the 2 young lads were amazing .

So I asked POLITELY if the staff could clean the conservatory area as it was disgusting and plates all over and all I got was that they were short staffed. Then when ordering a stella I noticed that there was about 3 inches of something in the glass already so when I questioned this, the ignorant girl told me it was from another pump then looked at her colleague and rolled her eyes and nodded towards me! What the hell! The only saving grace was the fantastic older lady that served me later for food. She was amazing. Wish I could remember her name. Maxine maybe?! I have worked in a busy club/bar and would never roll my eyes at a customer! Unprofessional! I was literally furious. But well done to the older lady. Bloody lovely!!

Called in just after midday for lunch with my wife. The place was packed and we struggled to get a table. Ordered our food of sirloin steak and the chicken strips. Food was still served to us in 10 mins even though they were very busy. All food was delicious and the steak was cooked as ordered. Nice friendly chap behind the bar too. Overall a good place to eat with value quality food.

Wemt for a meal after cinema.Struggled to get a clean table.decided on something easy gourmet burger .Unfortunately burger burnt black onion rings luke warm.Gourmet chicken burger was nice but everything else luke warm.No tables cleared around us. The service was good and the food order came almost too quickly (5 minutes). However, it was up to the usual Wetherspoon standard. I had the mushroom risotto and my husband had the panini and chips. This is not the place to go for gourmet meals, but is ideal for a midweek meal after some shopping without spending the earth.

We called in for a quick breakfast. When we ordered we were advised that there was a 15 minute wait for the food. All of the staff were really helpful and polite. The coffee is serve yourself and is bottomless, so refill as much as you like.

We all know Wetherspoons to be that cheap and cheerful place where you can get a budget meal without breaking the bank.

I went in for lunch today and the place was busy which I can appreciate the kitchen must have been stressed but my meal made me throw up after I’d left. I had a curry and my boyfriend had a streak, his meal was good and my meal wasn’t quite right but it was hardly worth a complaint until I got to work a few hours later and had to be sent home for throwing up my curry. I have the same meal at the other spoons and never once had an issue so it’s most likely been cooked incorrectly. On the good side the staff were very kind while I was there

Decided to call in this place as we were shopping in Stafford. I had the sirloin steak medium to Well done and it was very poor. Overcooked and hard. The rest of the meal was ok. My wife had the chicken strips with chips and it was very nice. Nice beers and wine and nice staff. Not the usual excellent standard for a steak from wetherspoons.

I must say this place has been one of mine and my Partners favourite meals out. The establishment was clean & tidy, Staff were friendly & presented well as well as the food being excellent. For “Small” Portions these were outstanding food was well presented & tasted amazing. Would definitely recommend.

We decided to call in as we were paying a visit to Stafford. I ordered the sirloin steak and my wife had the chicken strips. Steak was cooked as ordered and very Tasty and succulent. The chicken strips were good quality too. Nice real ales and the draught merlot was very fruit and tasty. Very nice interior to this pub. Overall a good place to eat. Only thing we were not happy with was the bar staff were very slow and took ages to serve a few people. We will try again next time we are in Stafford.

We went in for a cheap breakfast and we got what we wanted. We both had a traditional breakfast. The food was promptly delivered to the table and it was all warm, well cooked and tasty. The coffee was bottomless via a machine. I don't think you would be able to match the same food for the same price anywhere in town. I would definitely go back for breakfast again

Well , I'm happy to say that after the unfortunate debacle earlier this year courtesy of the main steak supplier having serious issues which swiftly led to the supplier having to cease trading, Wetherspoons have rationalized their steak menu into the best 2 choices of steak.

We were pleasantly surprised on a recent visit to the Butler's Bell in Stafford. Normally, the food and service in a Wetherspoons is pretty standard. On this occasion, they made a mess of my wife's order and delivered the wrong (but similar) meal to the table. On pointing this out, the young man who served us was extremely apologetic and rectified the error promptly and efficiently. Even better, he waived the extra cost of the meal originally ordered without quibble. A nice touch and much appreciated. The food was good as well.

Stopped off for a lunch with wife and daughter, I know there are a number of fine places to eat in Stafford as I used to work in the town and could of chosen a number of them. I went for the Bb because it’s normally quick and food is satisfactory. You are not going to get art cuisine so don’t rate on that expectancy. The pub is your A Typical spoons cheerful busy a decent cheap beer ( included in the grill chosen) and filling. I had the mixed grill and left me suitably full, food was hot and served in a decent time even though it was a Saturday lunch and very busy. If you know spoons and you are more than happy to go for a standard pub grub choice then I recommend

My partner ordered a pizza, because we think they are the best in town. He eagerly awaited it and when it turned up it looked delicious. The waiter then told us Head Office had made the decision to remove all pizza cutters. Have you tried cutting a pizza with a knife?

I have eaten here twice in the past 2/3 weeks and on both occasions food has been luke warm at best. Am I going out to eat a meal or just pick and leave the meal. I have tried to contact twice now and no reply. Wrong end of town to not look after customers. The same pub has closed down twice in last 7/8 years. Was always a place to have a decent pub style meal, not anymore.

I have never experienced worse customer service than here today! Order 2 cans of drink, the member of staff serving me went to fetch two cans from the back whilst members of staff slagged her off in front of customers!! The chips looked and tasted like they had been cooked more than twice, the ham was grey and looked off, the salad was brown and had a strange smell to it. When we politely complained staff became rude, went back to the bar and were talking about us saying “she soon shut her mouth when...” and stopped as we approached the bar. All 4 meals had to be sent back due to being over cooked and not fresh. No meals replaced and little knocked off the bill. Won’t be returning.

Right location at the stone end of the town centre with little competition, the newer of the two wetherspoons in the town and the nicer decor, Been in here a few times over the last few years and it’s only fall down is the staff attitude. I use wetherspoons around the country quite a lot so I keep expecting things to change but unfortunately they dont. The customer service in this location is pretty bad so go to the wetherspoons picture house or Yates for the same experience but significantly friendlier and helpful staff

Started to go to the Butlers Bell on a Saturday for our breakfast. Excellent value food that had obviously been cooked fresh. You can refill your coffee as many times as you like. Nice outdoor area which is great when it'd sunny. Staff always friendly. What's not to like?

Visited butlers bell in Stafford town to meet up with family,I've not really seen great reviews but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt BUT I wasted my time and money! The service was awful not only was we over charged simply because he was too busy looking around and chatting to other bar staff! After we pointed out the mistake he raised his voice to us insisting we was wrong even after he'd realised his mistake he didn't even apologise. Or food arrived in record time on very hot plates so it was obvious the food had been heated up in a microwave and the portions are ridiculously small the grand total of 5 chips my child's meal had more chips then the adult portions! Bad service and certainly not value for money !

I went to this pub for a drink, it was quite busy. There was a good selection of real ales at reasonable prices, recommended.

Standard big chain experience. Prices inexpensive and food fairly standard but good range and there are some good ones buried in the menu, the Lasagne is particular.

The pub has some great value meal deals and something for everyone. There are light breakfast dishes and also deals that include drinks. The unlimited coffee or tea is a bargain at £1.25, although the tea bags should be near the machines and not at the end of the bar which is not easy to see if people are queuing.

Lovely staff with good food and lovely surroundings with a nice atmosphere what more could you want when you can’t be bothered to cook and fancy a night off.

Went at Lunch time midweek, not many people which was a bonus, friendly staff when ordering food and drinks, very fast service,and the chicken n rib combo was spot on, real all also top notch, i always find these places are better when it's quiet.

Called in here for breakfast with my husband and wasn't starving so opted for lighter scrambled eggs on toast. It appeared appealing enough but once I started eating it became apparent that the toast was soggy at the bottom because the scrambled eggs were so watery. There was also bits of eggshell in with the eggs, and it was tasteless. - no seasoning at all. Appalling breakfast. The only positive was the help yourself coffees.

The venue was very busy at 1715hrs on a Sunday, and I was advised of a 25-30 minute wait for a food order. i accepted this, and the food was delivered after 30 minutes, and was tasty and well presented. Staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and I would recommend the Sunday Brunch as particularly good value.

Having used many Wetherspoons about 45 over the years we gave up after two appalling meals a few months ago in other Wetherspoons establishments. Our faith in Wetherspoons was restored due to the food being good and the service being efficient. Although very busy the service was very efficient which is credit to test after on duty.

Popped in for a bite to eat. It's a Wetherspoons pub so the menu is standard. This place is quite popular and has a nice and lively atmosphere. A mixture of tables and booths with iron bars to reflect the old jail beginnings. Food of simple stature with some garlic flatbread, chicken wings, nachos, a chicken bacon and avocado salad and half a rack of ribs. All done fairly quickly and done quite nicely. Can't really knock it for the price.

Went for a much anticipated steak night after being turned away twice previously due to lack of steaks .

Came in Monday for a spot of lunch and found it rather busy for a mid week, which is usually a good sign. We ordered food and were slightly worried we might be waiting a while but it didn’t take to long to come mine was lovely I had a bbq burger and chips with onion rings and it was cooked lovely. The only thing we where slightly disappointed in was the fact they don’t sell children’s fish fingers, my friends 3 year old little boys a fussy eater and that’s normally something on a child’s menu, he however choose to have a children’s pizza but what we didn’t realise at the time of ordering it was just a pizza on a plate , no chips or beans.(the usual things you get, which he wanted )the pizza was quite large but to much for a young boy to really enjoy and a lot of it was wasted, personally I’d make the pizzas on the children’s menu smaller and offer a side instead, given the choice. Overall we enjoyed our food all at a reasonable price

There is a smoking area to the rear. Smoking by the front door should be monitored by staff as I am not prepared to walk through a haze of smoke to enter the premises.

Great place for a drink but went today 27th jan ordered large mixed grill. Firstly when ordered asked for steak to be rare... there reply was it will come as it comes because there busy. Accepted it was busy it is payday weekend after xmas. Food came looked ok. But all the meat was tough. Little bits if meat that even 3 for £10 from farmfoods are better. And im not knocking farmfoods cause i shop there. The food was barely warm apart from the sausage. Feel i should have complained but manager was running round like crazy. Great place for a drink but wont be eating there again.

Went for a pre panto meal as a group. The place was buzzing in a nice sort of way. Food and drinks ordered, table found, sit relax. Food arrives well cooked hot and tasty. That done more drinks, chat and off to the Gatehouse.

When is a steak night not a steak night, when it's only 6.15pm & they have no steaks of any kind to offer .

Love Wetherspoons for their unlimited refills of coffee and this is the perfect place in Stafford to people watch - large windows overlooking the main street, the comfy chairs and friendly staff are good too, there is good atmosphere - loved the photos of the Staffordshire Hoard on the staircase walls too

Stopped off here on a return journey heading north. Ordered a couple of drinks, the Ship Yard pale ale was delicious. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a bowl of chips. Whilst we were waiting we did not take our coats off as it was too cold to do so. The pizza came out quite swiftly but when it was placed in front of us, half the pizza was missing toppings (possibly slid onto the other side) and the base had separated like a pita bread. Not a good pizza. The chips tasted like poor quality oven chips. Maybe It was a one off? On form it would be good value. sadly for us it wasn't.

As expected from a Wetherspoons the food is cheap and cheerful, though unfortunately they totally got my oder wrong! I ordered a steak and ale pie and mash, and after a few minutes was told it was out of stock and would a like a steak and kidney pudding instead? Fine, I like those too so agreed.

Clean fresh tidy pub.Nice decor and atmosphere. Excellent meals served by friendly staff. Will definitely be going again even though I live 18 miles away. Enough said

went into Stafford for a pre-theatre meal had looked up a few places around the town centre and saw this was a wither spoons pub so new it may be dark and dingy like some of the others I have been in but I was surprized when I walked in to see how light ,clean and new / up to date the place looked , there was not many people in at 5.30 so ordered my meal and drink deal and was told there was no waiting time and should have food quickly which it was , very good fast service and a good meal with some cheap drinks while waiting for theatre show

The new pizzas on the menu are really nice, especially for the price, and I've been a few times just because of them. It's usually quite busy but it's a nice atmosphere and there's a lot of seating. Service has always been alright but on a few separate occasions a female member of staff that appears to be a manager or supervisor has been quite nasty in tone to other staff members and can often be heard shouting at people. It's not just unfair on the staff, it's really unprofessional for the customers to see, and quite disheartening. That aside, I don't have any other complaints.

Haven't been for a while... now know why. Came for steak night, had to send one back and the other was barely edible.

Popped in for drinks air con on cold its freezing its warmer outside!!!!! Why do we have to sit with jumpers and coats on in here? Come on and sort your freezing venue out until done so AVOID!

Seen pizza's advertised in a few pubs over the last few months so the wife and myself popped in to try them for ourselves. We ordered 2 meat feasts..it advertised very hot! We both like hot so no problem. The pizza's arrived.seemed OK. But the chopped chillies on them was obscene... They were very hot chillies.my wife's was covered in them all chopped different sizes some even 3 or 4mm wide.. We new they were hot as advertised but it really spoil a not bad pizza. Won't be having another 1. A few spread around would have made far nicer

Have to admit - I love a Wetherspoons! You know exactly where you stand. So as I'm not local when I was in Stafford we popped in for lunch but wasn't expecting it to be so busy. I appreciate that the staff had a lot on but I found them rude and unhelpful. Food was absolutely fine (standard Wetherspoons, can't go wrong for the price) but the tables all needed clearing and service was quite slow. There was literally one blond lady clearing and sorting everything and even though she was rushed off her feet she still took the time to be really sweet with my son which I really appreciated. Overall the experience wasn't horrendous but put me off enough to go somewhere next time.

If you’re after Michelin Star food then this place isn’t for you. If you’re after a cheap meal with a drink thrown in then this place will sort you out. We went on a Tuesday night (Steak Club Night) and had a good bit of steak and chips for £7.99 plus a pint. There were 9 in the group and there were no complaints about the meals. All I’d say is it’s a good option if your on a budget or just want to save money to buy some more beers.

A family group of varying ages called for an evening meal .The staff and patrons were friendly ,the drinks varied enough to meet all tastes

Food poor because eggs overcooked mushroom undercooked chips tasted double fried need a new chef poor to say it's Stafford I expected more!!!

Went for lunch. We had great food and the customer service was fantastic. Thanks to Alison for the service.

Went to have lunch with daughter and grandson who were already there. Stood at bar and was ignored by bar staff even when they knew I was next. Did not order went elsewhere. Was discussed by the attitude of staff and excuse to my daughter by manager was we are understaffed. Staff have eyes and can see who is at the bar and who is there before others.

Everything you want from this chain pub (Weatherspoons), good service and hot food with affordable drinks. Fantastic beer garden which is a sun trap. My goto local.
