The Boat Inn has the potential to be quite good but currently let down by poor customer service! We waited over 40 minutes for our starters but eventually it was our mains that arrived. The waitress said this was all she had been given. Ten minutes later the starters arrived…looking like they’d been kept warm somewhere and forgotten about! Another waitress then appeared and explained they assumed we’d want to wait and have everything at once!!! Basil Fawlty would be proud of them. Mistakes happen. Own up. Apologise and move on. Don’t try fobbing customers off, it just sounds silly!

We have been stopping here regularly, on our narrowboat trips, since we discovered it in 2011. It has never failed to disappoint. Canalside, traditional, cosy pub. Friendly staff and locals. Excellent real ales. Good selection of proper 'pub grub'. Prices are superb. Today we paid £3 (yes £3) for a pint of bitter and a total of £33.50 for two two-course meals and two rounds of drinks! We will keep coming back.

The Boat Inn in Gnosall, Staffordshire is a pleasant, canal-side pub, with a small car park. There is seating in the bar area, which is rather smaller than many pubs. It must also be pleasant to sit outside at the tables beside the canal in good weather (if we ever get any) and watch the narrow boats passing or attempting to moor. There are also waterfowl, other birds, ponies and passing horses to watch. The food is adequate pub food, though the menu is rather limited. It is well cooked and well presented. I don’t usually drink alcohol so I can't really comment on the range of beers and other alcoholic beverages, but the lime and soda was good! The service is friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit, whether you are travelling on foot, by car, or on the canal.

I arrived at 19:43 (with two starving teenagers) and was told the chef stops taking food orders at 19:45. It's a beautiful pub, located right alongside the canal. Plenty of local patrons have a lovely time (eating, drinking) but I we felt our arrival was REALLY welcomed by the young lady serving food and were sort of dismissed. My potential food and drink order was probably worth about £100 to the pub. Small beer to them, no doubt.

I wouldn’t normally complain or write reviews but we had an awful meal here today. My daughter ordered cheesy garlic bread which arrived without cheese and rock hard. We had garlic mushrooms for a starter that again were rock hard so you couldn’t even cut them and they were swimming in oil. My main was supposed to be cheese and potato pie which turned out to be just mashed potato with a tiny sprinkling of cheese shoved on top! Served with carrots, potato and salad. Pot of gravy! Seems who ever cooks, decides on the menu has no idea! So disappointed and waste of over £40. Would never go back

My partner is vegan on checking with the Landlady if there were suitable options for her. There was nothing available, however, she offered a pizza with tomatoes and vegetables. We accepted this as its lovely canalside pub with a really friendly atmospher. My partner has had very poor experiences and therefore low expectations of any restaurant. About 30 minutes after confirming booking the Landlady rang me to let me know she had gone out and purchased a suitable vegan cheese. This was so far above and beyond!! As we were all travelling our arrival times were unpredictable,so we were a little worried that we might be too late for the lunch service.. The landlady and her kind staff were very accommodating and suggested that we could phone our order through so it could be prepared for our arrival. This was necessary in the end but the offer was much appreciated. We all picked the steak pie which was lovely , as was the well kept beer. Unfortunately, a poor experience this evening. The Landlady was rude. Not even closing time, polishing which smelt awful, scraping chairs and turning lights off. Made to feel very unwelcome. Asked if we were done half way down our drinks nowhere near closing time. I thought a pub was supposed to be somewhere you went to unwind after the working week. Not this establishment. Won't be spending anymore of our money here whilst like this. Spent £75 tonight at least. Not a penny more. Ringing Marstons tomorrow. Got nothing but abuse from Landlady's family members when left accurate account of our experience on facebook.
