Called in today for a lunch , usually I have a morning Cappuchino and delicious teacake but today went for a Cappuchino and Cheese and onion toasty which was delicious! Came with an ample pot of Coleslaw and salad Lovely Crusty bread, I also had a "small" glass of the House Ros which was one of the nicest I have tasted and fully complemented the meal.

Met a friend for mid morning coffee and decided to have a bacon roll. It's called The Sancerre Wine Bar (or something like that now)... I could barely chew or swollow my first and only bite of this so called bacon roll. As Gordon Ramsay would say in Kitchen Nightmares the roll was "fresh frozen" and had been defrosted in the microwave to the point it was mushy on the exterior and stiff and leather like on the interior.... There is chewy and then there is cardboard! It was inedible and for the first time in my life I sent food back! The staff appeared inexperienced and the waitress service felt like Rachael from Friends. It got to the point where I just had to laugh. In Eccleshall I was hoping for a nice bit of fresh baked sourdough and beautifully cooked local bacon. No idea where the produce was from, but I've had better hospital food. I was asked if I wanted anything else instead (not a chance I thought to myself... If they can't even make a fresh bacon roll it's a bad sign) ... I told them I wouldn't be paying for the roll I had just about regrettably managed 1 bite of. Given how bad it was usually a well established business that takes pride in what they do would have at least given me a free coffee or not charged me for the drink I had got already... "going the extra mile" is a mantra this new named business hasn't the foggiest about. If changes are not made this place won't survive and that will be another tired, sad empty place in the Eccleshall high street.

Called in for coffee and a quick snack. Wish we hadn’t bothered. I had a “gourmet panini”. What a joke. Chose ham and cheese. Arrived smothered in balsamic sauce which I hate . However I don’t like causing fuss so just scraped it off. No side salad. Opened the panini to find a scrap of ham and minuscule cheese. Very very poor. My partner had a sausage muffin. Came as a tiny tiny bap with some sort of pressed sausage and what he though was hard scrambled egg. Honestly it was awful though the coffees weren’t bad. £15 for this which is a total rip off. Used to visit every time I was in Eccleshall but that’s the last time I’m afraid . Don’t know if it’s been taken over but standards have slipped. Nobody in on a Friday afternoon and it used to be packed. Such a shame for Eccleshall.

Not even worthy of a 1 star review but tripadvisor doesn’t allow any lower. This “cafe” is now known as Sancerre Cafe. Absolute waste of money here. The food and drinks are so overpriced and a disgusting standard. There are much better eateries in Eccleshall than this. Avoid this place like the plague!!!

Popped back to the Artisan - or now known as the "Sancerre". It was quieter than usual and we managed to find a table in the window. We ordered sandwiches with coffee and, as we normally do, wanted to wash our hands before eating. In the current pandemic situation, this is more vital than ever. My wife went to the ladies and found no soap available. The staff located some soap from another cloakroom. Unfortunately, when I went to wash my hands, there was no soap in the Gents. Also the floor was wet and was not particularly clean. I had to enter the ladies (which I am not in the habit of doing ) and retrieve the soap. I reported this to the staff who made some excuse about the cleaning cupboard being locked. My wife reminded them that the wellbeing of customers is a management responsibility and that the convenience store a few yards away had plenty of soap on the shelves. I didn’t ask whether there was a separate staff toilet and whether that was equipped was soap, but the implications of this are obvious. We were presented with our lunch which the waitress announced “ your sandwiches” – but were given just a small bap. I’m not sure how many people do not know the difference between a sandwich and a bap/roll, but it must be very few. Maybe some staff training is needed. The meal was replaced with sandwiches. The only plus point was the Coffee.

We visited for snacks, ended up just having coffees. I found mine too strong by far, to the extent I was unable to drink it: I asked for extra milk to dilute it down. As to the redecoration.... wow. How tacky! The ‘gold’ & white colour scheme throughout the cafe is too much, plus looks just cheap. I noted the wallpaper already peeling from the walls (?damp), and the patch of damp-mould which has appeared through the white paint in the front room; taken with the windows being almost always misted up... a bad impression. The toilet was very cold and unheated, which wasn’t great given we visited on a very cold day. It could also benefit from some air freshener being used in there due to the sanitary and nappy bins being in there, giving an unpleasant odour.

The recent makeover is tacky. Gold wallpaper is already peeling in many places; “gold” paintwork which you can clearly see the previous surfaces / colourscheme through; window interiors are always misted up, every time I pass; white emulsioned walls which have patches of mould coming through... The toilets are very chilly & unheated, decor dull, unclean, and are smelly (nappy and sanitary bin in one). The back room remains cold, dark & unappealing.

Visited twice now in the last 5 weeks. Once as the cafe which was ok - better staff for sure and once as the wine bar. The new decor is extremely BUT as for the Wine Bar I’m afraid very tacky. Newly decorated walls with paper coming away-!! trying to have the ambiance of a chateaux - has a very very long way to go. Plastic flowers and plastic decor - paint on the lampshades and one having a large singe mark around it. Very bling - hardly anyone in with no atmosphere and I’m guessing using Spotify to provide the background music with adverts - not the way to spend an evening - such a shame I’m sure if done properly it would be far more inviting . Staff were lovely but it must be soul destroying to have so few customers.

We have visited the artisan 3 times since moving into the area and each time we go in the hope it will be better than the last. Unfortunately, we have now given up. I have to agree with other reviews, they are missing a trick and losing so many returning customers through simple mistakes. To keep it short. It is over priced. For a £7 panini I would expect fresh, high quality food...it was nothing to shout about. The last time we visited, we waited 30 minutes for 3 scones and 3 coffees...then after 20 minutes they then decided to tell us they had no clotted cream left. Coffees arrived...with no milk. We also sat next to an elderly couple who both complained that their soup was cold. I also agree that customer service isn’t the best which was ironic when there were so many of them behind the counter! The decor and cosy feel is spot on...but if you want a nice cake and a coffee Betty’s over the road offers a much better alternative and the staff are lovely. If it’s lunch you’re after, the garden centre offers some really lovely food!

I attended the Open Gardens in Eccleshall and specifically asked my friend who lives locally to go back to the Artisan as it was so nice the year before. We had lunch from the (supposedly) fresh choice from the board. My friend chose the soup which apparently was nice. I went for the quiche and specifically asked if it was homemade which I was told was (by a young girl who obviously had no idea what she was talking about). The quiche came with salad and crisps. Total cost £6.95. The small plate was half empty with a minute pathetic slice of quiche, a very sad looking salad, a minute bowl with crisps and a quarter of the plate was filled up with salad drizzle, I suppose to make it look posh. The quiche looked so deflated, very thin, overcooked and everything but fresh and homemade. As I proceeded to cut it, it felt like cutting through cardboard. And as expected, it did taste just like cardboard!!!! It must have been reheated numerous times. Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful!!!!! I complained (no apology from yet another young girl who looked at me like I was from another planet) and was asked if I wanted something else as a replacement. I asked for a tuna/mayo sandwich, expecting nicely cut mouthwatering sandwiches. What a surprise when my place returned with a wholemeal bap with a big lump of tuna/mayo in it! And that was it! Another wonderful presentation and bland taste. I am no chef myself but even I could have done better or got better from a cheap café for £2.50. I ate. Paid. Will NEVER go back. I strongly advise people to stick to coffees and cakes (which looked very nice) but avoid the choices from the board. I was thoroughly disappointed and hate having to pay for disgusting food. And non-existent service. No more Artisan for me, that's for sure...

Can't rate this place even with 1 star after today's trip to the Artisan in Eccleshall. We were always a frequent user before it was taken over. Delicious FRESH scones, that had just come out of the oven, and delicious coffee. Not now though, the scones are always yesterdays, ( I always ask if they are fresh today), and the answer is, no they were made yesterday! Today, we went in and there were 4 staff behind the counter. A lady that didn't appear to understand English took our order., which was simply 1 warmed scone, toast, and 2 coffees. We waited 25 mins, and still nothing on our table, then the scone arrived first, then several mins later the toast arrived, that looked most unappetising! My Husband turned it over and it was burnt black. He returned the toast and sat waiting again for another portion to arrive at the table. The coffee arrived eventually, my latte was very strong and bitter, so a waste of money as I couldn't drink it all. The Artisan is very expensive for what you receive now. It used to be worth it before being taken over. We won't be going back again. The staff didn't appear to have a clue about what they were doing.

What can I say....? The Artisan was a clean, kempt café, but unfortunately the standards are (have) becoming very low. Tables are routinely left uncleared and not cleaned / wiped, hence sticky tables which the Xmas-style dec’s adhere to. (Why the glittered candles & coasters mid-year?♂️♀️). The staff are usually on a go-slow on serving people’s orders⏰, which frustrates some customers (observably clock-watching⏳), a “don’t care” attitude evident . The back room remains dark, dingy & dismal; 2 massive mirrors domineering / dominating the room, and don’t even match each other let alone anything else. People walk in there, seeking a lovely seat.... and walk straight out again; they don’t want to sit in there . The dark paint and very inadequate lighting don’t help. There used to be daily papers available for customers to read. Since the paper shop closed some months ago there haven’t been any and it was said the owner was seeking some alternative arrangement. None is in place several months later, yet there are other shops nearby to supply them. This is incredibly lazy and disappointing, and adds to the clear & distinct impression the owner doesn’t care and has better things to do!! Bring back the papers for crying out loud!!! Don’t you want customers in??? The adjacent toilets can lead to odours invading the café which is unfortunate. The toilets are badly lit , decor dark, dirty / very worn & dingy, loo roll holder is still ‘fixed’ up badly with sellotape.... unpleasant inconveniences. The entire café is desperately calling out to be redecorated , but nobody cares enough to do so. Ditto management: it’s so absent that it’s non-existent, but is desperately needed because there’s no leadership - nobody ever visibly in charge - and staff are unaware of their roles, hence the lack of table clearing / attention to customers / laissez faire attitude.

Visited on Saturday 21st and having waited for 15 minutes had to ask where our tea and food was. The tea came about 5 mins later, and we'd ordered poached egg on toast, hardly a difficult thing to make. This arrived about 10 mins after this, the toast and egg were cold, the eggs were hard. Butter was in a pack and hard to spread, particularly on cold toast . The bread is from the bakers at the rear and is good quality. A small, expensive cafe. The staff are reasonably good although it's difficult to get a smile from many of them, whether you're a regular or not. Cakes and pastries are mostly incredibly sweet, so if you're diabetic be Very careful what you have!!! The quiche was wonderful, however the salad with it was small, which detracted from the meal. Savoury menu is too limited, which is unfortunate. The space inside is very limited and, because of its shape, unsuitable for groups of 4+ people. I think that if this cafe moved to larger premises it would really take off. The lack of room both in seating and for staff moving about is limiting what is on offer here, which is a shame because the talents of staff are not being made full use of.

Fabulous cafe in the heart of Eccleshall with an equally superb bakery behind where the bread, scones, tea cakes etc are freshly made. Not forgetting the award-winning coffee (also available to buy from the courtyard shop behind the cafe). Husband and wife partnership of David & Wendy and their team make you very welcome. There's plenty of seating inside as well as the courtyard behind & the opportunity to sit and people watch on Eccleshall high street. If you're arriving by bike there's plenty of room in the courtyard. Pretty much everything is handmade in the kitchen or the bakery (other than GF products which are supplied from a GF environment). For us this elevates even the simplest meal - bacon sandwiches are heavenly on fresh wholemeal bread or rolls, ciabatta & salads tasty & light, tea cakes - well David & his bakery team have perfected the art of these & raised them to a whole new level! Date or apricot and oat slices have become a staple on a long training ride when you find yourself in need of sustenance... I'm sure you get the picture - you can't really go wrong with anything you choose. Yes, it can get busy inside, especially on a wet weekend at lunchtime but that's just a sign of a good cafe; it's worth waiting for a seat. You're guaranteed the best coffee/hot chocolate for a good many miles, failing that you can always take it away!

I visit here often and really enjoy the ambiance of The Artisan. Visited a few days ago to grab some of their fabulous hot chocolate to go. Try it. It's the best. I am very picky about hot chocolate and few places locally nail it. This place does. Great for food too and it is always spotless! Happy friendly staff put the candle on the top of the cake.

4 adults and 2 kids in our group, all enjoyed our visit. The staff provided smaller portions for the kids and we all enjoyed the fresh food on offer. It was busy on our visit but the timings for food were not affected and the staff were faultless. We then visited the bakery and bought some slightly pricey bread, but upon tasting it, it was excellent value really. The baker even kindly gave the kids some breadsticks for free, which made them very happy! Set in a lovely little town, this is a great cafe for casual dining and chat with excellent quality food.

This coffee shop has been criticised in the past on the basis that the staff could have been more welcoming and inclusive. The cake and coffee has always been good and, under the guidance of David, this fundamental challenge has been thoroughly addressed. The Artisan is a lively, welcoming establishment which is well worth a visit. If the coffee and walnut cake is available do not hesitate to try it!

Lovely coffee shop with home made food available. Very nice scones served with fresh cream and jam/butter. Toasted tea cakes, sandwiches, breakfast food also available. There are plenty of seats and the coffee shop is situated on the high street of Eccleshall.

Four of us spent a leisurely hour over breakfast here last Sunday. Excellent coffees, teas, and very nice bacon baps with three rashers in each! Very friendly and helpful proprietor. Comfy seats and spotlessly clean. Would definitely return.

Had a lunch catch up with friends here. Lovely homemade food, chosen from a menu with something for everyone. Lovely looking cakes and pastries (I was too full to partake). Friendly staff who were attentive but not in your face. Stayed ages over coffee, it wasn't a problem. Overall lovely, you should try it.

Great high street coffee shop, very busy with a great atmosphere and lots of drinks and cake on offer as well as different lunches. I had a flat white as I was passing and have wanted to try out this coffee shop for a while, not the cheapest but certainly one of the best I have had and much better than Costa. Think I will be coming here more often, as I much prefer to support a local business than a high street brand name owned by money grabbing Whitbread!

A really relaxed atmosphere with friendly helpful staff. Been here a few times when we've had a meeting nearby and it's become a favourite. We visited for breakfast today and enjoyed our food and drinks. The fruit toast was particularly delicious. I wish it was closer to where I live! I'd be a regular!

It's a shame Trip Advisor only allows you to review the same place every three months because we've visited The Artisan café frequently throughout the last three months and each time it's been exceptional. The coffee is excellent quality, whether Americano or cappuccino and the selection of cakes is brilliant too. Scones are light and fluffy, cakes are moist and flavoursome and my usual choice, the toasted teacake is tasty and packed with fruit and raisins. Always comes with a couple of butter pats and a lovely pot of jam.Service is always tip-top too - very quick no matter how busy and always a friendly smile. This is how you run a café!

This is a little gem on the high streetThe food is all freshly made. Cakes to indulge and fresh baked breads. Let alone the little butter biscuits that accompany the glorious fresh coffee. The owner really knows about coffee and bread. You will not be disappointed. However as its a small popular destination.remember that It's not a fast food outlet it's a real independent business But let me tell you , it's so well worth the wait. We had the time to chat to the owners. All the staff are very friendly We shall return.

Had a really good lunch here. Excellent coffee and delicious hot smoked salmon open sandwich with salad .The coffee was served very quickly , bit of a long wait for the food but they were very busy and it was obvious that everything was freshly prepared. There were some attractive cakes on display , but too full to try them. Would definitely re visit .

A really lovely alfresco Saturday breakfast. I love this bistro café and the staff always greet you courteously. The coffee here is always worth paying for (so much better than Costa or Starbucks) and you get a cheeky shortbread round on the side! My croissant, served with butter and a baby jar of Bonne Maman conserve, was very tasty and hubby's toast lovely too. We meant to pop in to the nearby bakery to buy some Artisan bread for Sunday but forgot.....next time!!!

Lunch menu on the chalk board - limited. I ordered salmon with salad plus artisan bread??? 6.95 ! It was cooked salmon ok ! The salad was dire and two pieces of whole meal thick bread! It took 10 minutes to arrive I d finished the luke warm coffee by then! Asked for pepper ,took a while ! Unfortunately this cafe has no competitors! Or atmosphere !!Have these people been out of eccleshall? Do they know how the other half live? Will not be going there again..I have many friends in the area as I live locally, this place needs to look at their menu and flexability and seriously review it. If u r a vegan forget it !! Yes u can sit out outside on the street. So????

Typical Costa food and drink but the service was not typical – it was terrible. Only one oven saw the wait for hot food being excessive and the way of working means that there is no way to ensure the correct order was taken by the correct person. One guy seemed to be waiting for ages and when my order (2 x Cumberland Sausage Toasties) was placed on the counter, he thought it may have been his. When I told him what I had, he mentioned that he had been waiting 15 minutes and still his order had not arrived. The Barista hearing this, checked and discovered that the order had been fulfilled but “someone must have picked it up in error”. Whilst the offer of replacement was quick, no offer of more coffee was made as the initial cups were either finished or cold. Take a tip from Starbucks – see how they handle queuing. As for the food. Just the same old Costa offerings.

Not eaten here for a while. However, we decided to give it a go. Two lattes and shared a fish n chips. Absolutely superb, crispy batter, moist fish and crunchy fat chips. The coffees were piping hot. Excellent food and good value. Staff friendly and obviously take pride in their work. Positive changes here 👍

The Shrewsbury Arms is one of those traditional pubs with lots of nooks, crannies and little snugs. Add a roaring, real fire and it is cosiness at its best. There were the ubiquitous tellies on the walls for sport but, in much more traditional vein, there was also a large selection of board games for those of that persuasion. We were happy enough just to enjoy our beers by the fire, which felt particularly luxurious on such a freezing cold evening. Service was nice and this is a really good pub.
