Well this was a delightful place to find. Tucked away in the middle of nowhere this is a 13th century pub steeped in history. The drive from Bude was an experience up and down some very tight country lanes but what an experience and wonderful views (there is a much easier route in & out by the way). Had a gorgeous lamb dish. Service was excellent. Highly recommend a visit.

It’s a lovely spot and the pub inside is very nice. We’ve been going for years but the music is too loud for a rural pub so we had to sit outside in the drizzle. Can’t imagine we’ll go again.

This pub was our go-to for Sunday roasts and big family occasions last year but I don’t know what has gone on in the 8 months since we last visited because it’s absolutely awful now… The staff were rude and aggressive and the food was cold, tasteless and laughably overpriced - a total rip off. We were charged £8 for 5 chicken nuggets with some bbq sauce on them advertised as “Korean chicken goujons” I even questioned the chef who confirmed that the “goujons” and childrens chicken nuggets were actually the same product - hello trading standards! When I raised my issues with the waitress she switched from being relatively pleasant to aggressive and sullen (even when I assured her that it wasn’t her fault) she continued to glare at us until we left as we felt so uncomfortable. The rest of the food was lukewarm and unappetising. The Yorkshire pudding tasted strongly off parsley and there was no cauliflower cheese (which they had last year) but the price remained the same! I can see why they make you pay at the start as I certainly wouldn’t have paid for those “goujons” given the chance but no refund was offered. No other members of staff/management appeared, we were just left with the glaring waitress. It’s such a shame that we’ve lost our favourite pub, definitely won’t be returning after todays shocking service and food, we’re local people supporting a local business but feel like we’ve been totally ripped off and treated appallingly. Steer well clear of this place

The Bush Inn is a lovely old and atmospheric pub in a beautiful setting. There’s a decent pint and live music BUT whatever you do don’t eat there! We’ve been several times over the years, every time in the hope that the food will have improved. It hasn’t. On our lunchtime visit the homemade soup was thick and claggy. It could have been turned into something nice with a bit of stock for a better consistency, but wasn’t helped by the bread roll it came with that tasted as if it had been reheated to disguise the evident staleness. Crisps on the side of the sandwiches were however unashamedly stale. And although the ham sandwich was inoffensive by comparison, the homemade fish-finger version involved tasteless fish in soggy batter. This is really disappointing- yet again. If anyone had taken the time to come and ask us how the meal was we’d have pointed some of this out politely without having to put it on Tripadvisor instead.

Staying locally and was recommended this place. It’s a really charming looking pub and staff not overly welcoming but not rude. The food firstly is really average at best pub food so don’t go expecting anything more. The real bugbear was the price. It’s restaurant prices for average pub grub.

Very cosy traditional pub, lovely outdoor space aswell with fantastic local walks and beaches. The pub itself serves really good food, mostly cooked fresh from what i can see which is becoming less common these days! Staff are very friendly Seating is comfortable I have read some previous negative reviews and to be honest I disagree with everything they say…just my opinion but an experienced opinion. I really like this place and will continue to come back.

We booked a meal at this place for our last evening of our holiday. Lovely old place with an open fire and a lovely cottage feel. The views were amazing over the nearby fields with the coast in the background. We both ordered the steak and it came with chips a side salad and we had peppercorn sauce, I have to say it was all gorgeous and cooked to our liking with plenty on the plate. Would definitely recommend the food here, absolutely gorgeous 😋

Popped in for a quick drink as the pub was conveniently placed partway through our walk. Decided to have a bite to eat and we both chose the Moroccan vegetable soup which was just delicious, full of flavour, a really generous portion, served with beautifully fresh bread and butter. The lady at the bar was just great, really friendly and welcoming, all in all a super pub which we look forward to returning to.

Not a great experience I am afraid. No one around as we arrived. I was horrified to pay just under £80 for 3 hallumi burgers and egg and chips! We had asked if we could have an adult portion of egg and chips as it was only on the kids menu. They said that was fine then charged us £16 for two eggs and a handful of chips! The table and chairs were pretty uncomfortable too . The bar lady was obviously not feeling well and shouldn’t have been working. She kept coughing all over the bar area The food was average at best and the beer was not very good either We won’t be going back

Went to this place the other evening. (Saw all previous reviews stretching back over 10 yrs and fully agree with only 1star rating). I went upto the bar an waited to be served and was ignored by the older fat lady barwoman. I held my hand out and was abruptly told not to touch anything or I would have to pay for it! I that I might get better service in the other bar so asked if that was the lounge area. She said it was another bar but was full and so not to go in there. I retorted it was full here too. I decided to exit and go into the other bar anyway to escape her glare. I go served an alcohol free (driving) by a young girl who looked embarrassed. The barwoman was still glaring at me so I ignored her. A party of walkers was in there 2chat 2. I eventually left mingling with the walkers. I was sat in my vehicle just chilling in a nice place when I noticed a glurry of activity from the bar staff with the young girl criss crossing the yard. Then a big burly chap came out and stared aggressively at my vehicle for some time before going back in. Other so called staff members appeared to check me out. They are very dodgy ppl so be careful, only go with other friends or family, or better off not at all! Mick

Quirky traditional pub. We stumbled across it during a family outing and what a hidden gem. It was a windy, cold and rainy day, overly quite miserable but this visit made our day. Warm fires lit in every corner and a welcoming greeting from the owner. Great food at a reasonable price and charming, friendly service from staff. Really impressed as they had a local cider on draft here- crackington farmhouse cider, delicious. We have returned on several occasions, the food is always delicious and it is one of our favourite places to visit.

This is a pretty pub, small bar area but they have extended into a barn type area with decking area you can sit on and enjoy the wonderful view. We hadn’t been for a good 4 years so thought we should visit. Unfortunately it’s going to be another 4 years before we go for meal here, yes we will have a drink there if we are walking in the area. My husband had fish and chips, this was some chips (very nice) fish was what Captain Birds Eye sells, and peas. Fished looked very lonely, small portion. I had to have a starter and chips, due to the usual bean chilli or veg curry. There are so many exciting recipes out there which you should push to get carnivores to try. I DON’T want to change people to vegans but it’s good to give good options.

We booked during the day and were grateful that we could be found a table for an early evening meal. The food came quickly and we had no complaints in this respect. However we were not so comfortable with their application of their well signed social distancing arrangements. A number of customers were seen ignoring the one way system, as indeed we were told we could on exit. A party of 9 arrived 20 minutes early as we were finishing our main course, and were allowed in and to wander around unmasked before their table had been cleared and prepared (quickly)in the same room as us. We felt it necessary to leave without taking dessert as we had intended. It seems that instructions (such as maximum tables of 6, and mask wearing in the bar) were being ignored and nothing done about it. It isn't sufficient to put notices up, but staff need to be proactive in enforcing them for everyone's safety.

I am local-ish to the Bush Inn, a town near by. I have no vested interest in complaining about here nor have I ever used or said anything on trip adviser before. But I feel in this instance, I have too. I advise you not to go here, the female who referred to herself as the owner is completely irrational. The faces of the staff, the punters and my family said it all. I simple asked if i could book a table for 12 on another day. The aggression and ferocity of her reply was completely unjust, i stood there whilst her tirade of reasons for me not to be able to book for 12 people was so aggressive and in such a manner it left myself, my family and other customers a gasp. I had to bite my lip and walk away, One minute later. I was referred to as these people, at which my wife had to get up and and say something. DO not go here, there is plenty of other great places to eat.

The Old Smithy is a short walk from Berry Park where we always stay when we come to North Devon. Beautifully renovated old pub serving good honest food and often providing live music. The beer garden is superb on a warm afternoon. Come here for some genuine country culture.

We visited the Bush Inn 10 years ago while on holiday in the area and have sung the praises of their roast dinner and atmosphere since. So happy to return on holiday this year we booked. Our first experience had us told we would have to order as walked in as a large table was expected. Only to have a man walk passed us shouting at the young man taking our order that no one else was allowed to order food and that we couldn’t eat there. He didn’t speak to us and he was far from polite but as my husband is very relaxed and friendly and totally understanding they gave us our drinks free and we booked for the Sunday eve. When we returned we had to queue to let them know we had a table, in a queue meant for ordering food, we were told again to order at this point as it was busy. Totally under pressure we ordered from the menu and went to our table. We sat in the conservatory which was sadly awful. No atmosphere, no music. It was full of people but no one particularly happy everyone sat talking extremely quietly we had to lower our own voices!! We would have been happy day outside or in the pub but obviously they were full! The food arrived nearly an hour later except for my sons which the poor waitress who wed just watched deal with complaints of long waiting time from another family had to deal with our missing meal. It finally arrived but everyone else had finished and we just wanted to leave! My husband did complain when we went to the order point again to pay about my sons meal and the man who took the money was pretty rude to my husband. What a damn shame! To anyone else, if it’s warm go and sit in the garden and take in the views with a few drinks but don’t waste your money eating there, I think they get by on reputation not on current food and service.

Had a family meal here on holiday after looking for a pub with a kids play area. We were really impressed, big garden with amazing views and a nice climbing area for the kids. We then moved inside as it was getting colder, inside was quirky and interesting too. Beautiful old building with lots of history.

it can be a bit tricky to find, but well worth it. We were hoping to find a pub with an outside area, and which served not only pub food but a few specials as well. This fitted the bill with a huge beer garden and quite a view. It had a few special dishes some fish ones and we elected for one of these. It was pretty busy for a pub off the main road. Inside it is old with multiple bars and lots of wood serving areas etc. Recommend a visit

Had a great sandwich here for lunch today. Lovely bread, no skimping on the fillings and came with a delicious side salad, not your normal couple of bits of lettuce. Friends had great food as well. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed an excellent supper in this very old but quaint pub. Good choice of beers and wines. The choice of food was more than expected and as it’s cooked to order we did not mind the expected wait (only 10 - 15mins). Unfortunately The Bush is too far from home to be a regular haunt. Shame.

Great fish & chips sat out in the sunny garden, lovely pint of Stumble Bee, and would you believe it, the mighty Wreckless Eric was there on the 11th May and I missed him by 2 days!

Character pub with friendly staff. Food was served promptly and was good, however it was a little overpriced compared to other local pub menus. The big disappointment was the dining room was a little scruffy and in need of a good clean!

This is is a bit out of the way but does real ale. Is a 13th century inn with sprawling rooms. We had lunch and it was worth the trip. I had popcorn prawns for starters followed by venison. All cooked to perfection.

This wonderful 13th century pub is the perfect place to spend an evening! Watch the sun go down in the comfortable dining area then move into the cozy bar area. We visited during an evening of music which was a great way to end a really lovely day!

The most northerly Freehouse in Cornwall and a pleasant stop (Day 10 for me) on the South West Coast Path. Lots of history, friendly Publican and awesome stop just south of the Devon border.

Having been at Sandymouth in the morning we took a winding country road up the coast and came across this pub, so decided to stop there for lunch. We arrived at 1pm with the pub about half full, and we chose to sit outdoors in the garden to enjoy the sunshine and horizon sea view. There’s a small children’s play area but most people sitting outside had dogs with them. The pub was serving a full menu, specials board and a choice from two Roasts (lamb or beef). We ordered 1 lamb, 1 beef - unfortunately it took an hour for our food to arrive by which time the chill wind had meant we were rather cold but by this time tables inside were full so no choice but to remain outside. When the food finally arrived we asked which was which, only to be told “I don’t know, they just told me to take them out, your veg will be coming separately”. So we made our own discovery and have to say it tasted good. Great selection of fresh veg, parsnips, leeks, carrots, broccoli, swede, roast potatoes and a huge crispy Yorkshire pudding. £12 per adult, generous portion size. Were it not for the long wait, without explanation or apology, I’d have probably rated this higher.

Went for lunch on Easter sunday and was very impressed. They have a great kids menu, selection of beer and a adult menu which stretches beyond usual pub grub - deep fried monkfish was lovely.

We had heard is this pub so decided as it was not a walking day we would pop in for something to eat, the pub is a very old-fashioned proper English pub decorated with all the knickknacks you would expect in an English pub. The bar where we sat on a roaring fire as you’ll see from the pictures. The bar staff a kindly gentleman was very efficient in serving us our drinks. Food menu was very extensive as was the specials menu of the day. Both myself and my colleague had a lamb shank which was absolutely delicious. The service to say the food is cooked fresh was excellent. The bar had an extensive range of beer and spirits.I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this public house for a visit, we will definitely be back we enjoyed it so much.

After a great walk from Duckpool, along the SW coastpath, it was fantastic to know that a slap up Sunday roast was waiting for us. The Bush Inn is one of those rare pubs where locals are genuinely friendly and the food is delicious. I wish there were more like it !

Our friend took us here today and it was everything you could want in a traditional Cornish pub in winter! The fire was roaring, the bar man was smiling. Felt very welcoming. We had a pint and sandwich each and shared a bowl of chips. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty with a lovely side salad, creamy coleslaw and crisps. Loved it.

The staff were very friendly. The hot drinks were alright and the cakes were alright. They didn't rush us. The whole atmosphere was really nice and lovely. I didn't have to raise my voice to speak to my boyfriend who has a hearing impairment which is a hearing aid.

We were on holiday and ended up eating here 3 times. We had our dog who typically was nervous in eating places so we never bothered eating out, we were given a table in the corner and asked for the same one every time which they obliged as she was settled, it helped that the staff were all so helpful and the food was so nice, would highly recommend the Pityme Inn and we will visit again, it made our holiday
