Absolutely delicious evening meal. The team were so positive, helpful and warmly welcomed my son and I for dinner. We were on way through and needed food in a Sunday evening - delicious!! Kids can anything on the menu and the chef will do a smaller portion for 1/2 the price. Succulent rump steak and spaghetti carbonara. Highly recommend.

2 night stay visiting family, we have stayed before so it was a natural choice as we enjoyed so much the first time. The hotel has changed hands and in the intervening time it has remained “top notch”. On arrival and checking in, although I’d forgotten to request an accessible bathroom this obviously was not a problem as the lovely lady on reception dealt with it and another room was organised. The room, very large and comfortable, mini fridge containing bottled water & milk pots for the tea & coffee also supplied. Little packet of biscuits (lovely touch). We had paid for an upgraded room so bath robes were included, another lovely touch. The bath towels were very large and soft. The room had a ceiling fan which helped in cooling the room. All the staff really friendly & helpful. We only had the breakfasts as we were visiting but you certainly couldn’t fault the choice and quality of the menu choices. Would we return-Definitely YES. 10 out 10

Sunday 9th June 2024, My husband and I after visiting Berrington Hall drove to the small town of Kington, were we decided to visit ‘The Burton Hotel’ for dinner. We had stayed there in the past so we knew the food was very good here. We arrived and parked our car in the car park. We decided to eat in the lounge bar of ’The Burton Hotel’; we had a nice cosy table for two. The décor of the lounge bar was light and airy with light maple timber beams and cream walls with local artist’s pictures on the walls. The wooden tables were laid with white napkins and shiny cutlery had comfortable red upholstered chairs. The tables in the lounge bar were very well spaced from other diners in the room. Our waiter for the evening was very friendly and very professional in everything that he did and nothing was too much for him. My husband and I were given menus to peruse and there was a nice selection of meals to choose from. My husband had a pint of ‘Hobgoblin’ bitter and I had a large glass of rose wine to go with our meal. The food was delicious. My husband and I decided not to have a starter, so we went straight to the main course. For his main course my husband had the a Gammon Steak with egg and pineapple served with onion rings, peas and lovely golden chunky chips, which he said was delicious, the gammon just melted in the mouth. For my main course I had a ham, mushroom and cheese omelette served with lovely golden chunky chips, which was delicious. I was quite full afterwards so I did not bother with a sweet. My husband for his dessert had strawberries and clotted cream, which he said was delicious. Afterwards, my husband had a bottle of ‘Zero’ alcohol bitter and I had a nice coffee with cream. This finished our meal off perfectly. We relaxed and let our dinner go down and then we paid our bill and started our journey back home.

Yesterday we had Sunday lunch at The Burton. It was outstanding from the bar, waitresses, chef's and the manager John. Easy booking everyone knew what they were supposed to do. The melt in the mouth roast beef and roast pork was absolutely delicious crunchy roast potatoes and beautifully cooked veg. The homemade desserts were also outstanding especially the sticky toffee pudding 😋 . We were a party of 24 running along side a another party of 20 it all went smoothly. Thank you we will be back next year for another family reunion. Well done all. X

We stayed here for night as a break from camping and to enjoy a spa after climbing pen y fan. The spa facilities are very good and we really enjoyed that. The beauty therapist came in at short notice to do my daughters nails which was wonderful. The breakfast was good. Plenty to eat and nicely cooked. The room was not so good which stopped me giving 5 stars. Room 6 is small and dated with woodchip ceilings and cracks and uneven floors. The bed was small and the mattress a little uncomfortable but not awful. The room is extremely hot. The good thing is that you can open the windows. ( some hotels have window locks but this one didn’t ) but the noise of a fan or extractor was a bit annoying. The bathroom was clean and plenty of hot water and nice bath. Overall a good stay. Worth it for the spa.

Kington is a great place to visit. Quirky local shops and fantastic walks just on the doorstep. Local markets selling home produce . It is well served by buses from south and mid wales as well as hereford. The Burton is one of a few excellent hotels in the town. The Burton has brilliant attentive staff who are so welcoming. Beds were comfortable and rooms very nice with a bath in our ensuite. Very good breakfast in elegant dining room. The piece de resistance however is the superb spa and pool which is included in the price. Cant wait to go back. Thank you

We received the warmest of welcomes and the hotel management and staff went out of their way to make it a memorable occasion. We had a lovely lunch, with a mixture of dishes. I personally had the chicken tikka masala curry; this was served with rice, poppadom and pickles. It was full of succulent chicken and delicious. Everyone else enjoyed theirs too. Both the food and drinks prices are very reasonable, a bottle of Prosecco being £16.We had taken a cake and they bought it out adorned with lit candles after our meal. My husband and I walked the Wye Valley Trail, our portion ending at Hay-on-Wye, which, unfortunately, had the book festival going on at the time, so we transferred to Kington for the last 2 nights of our walk to get out of the mayhem. We are SO glad we did! Not only is Kington an exceptionally charming town, the Burton Hotel was a real treat. The owners have refurbished the entire building to perfection- they obviously know what they are doing! Our room was large and quiet, beds comfortable, easy access with an elevator (lift), and the breakfasts are delicious and filling. We had dinner one night in the restaurant, and the next night at the pub, both were very good. The pool and hot tub on ground floor was a treat. We can definitely recommend the Burton Hotel for anyone wanting a fine place to stay.

Why oh why didn’t I read the TA reviews before going here, arrived famished after a long walk to the worse meal I have had in 5 weeks travelling. Ordered lasagne and it came as a sort of baked sludge with soft cheese covering a meat soup. I had no spoon to eat it so had to try and pick it up with a fork. Add to this the awful wine and I gave the whole place away. Surely the town deserves better than this.

An all too brief visit to this lovely family run hotel - despite being wounded by a wayward lorry damaging the hotel front - inside the excellent facilities are uneffected and still provide hotel guests with remarkable comfort and pleasure. Our most recent 24 hour visit started with the owner giving us a warm welcome in reception- Mr Richardson nearly got us partaking of the wonderful facilities luring guests toward the Cloud 9 Spar - a facility of which he is justifiably proud - it is stunning, and with a longer stay we would have ! We had a lovely evening meal in the bar, where my faithful Labrador was able to curl up under the table ( rightly dogs not allowed in the restaurant), the bar which is crewed by a great team were most efficient and could not have been more accommodating. It was busy with a nice mix of clientele - locals and travellers. The owner runs a "tight ship" - staff are brilliant in every respect that matters to discerning guests. Kington is a lovely "old world" border town that always makes me feel nostalgic for my youth in the area, character in abundance. Wish to return more frequently than possible. M.J.

Visited the burton hotel in Kington for 1 night in August. Enjoyed the pool, steam rooms and the new king size bed room with wet room shower. Very comfortable. My only complaint was the number of light sources at night, little green lights from the smoke alarms, red lights from TV...and so on. Far too many and too bright, I like my room pitch black as it enables me to sleep. The restaurant was fun with a big crowd of golfers eating there in the night we were there. This was a hiking club group dinner on a Saturday evening in a large bare function room, with pre-selected meal choices. The service was coldly efficient, without time for a few smiles and friendly words - it seemed under-staffed. The meal was light on quantity for someone who had spent the whole day walking the hills, - I had to request some more meat in my thinly populated boeuf bourguignon, which was more like a beef casserole with bits of bacon in it. A small dish of extra beef pieces was provided, but no apology offered. No one came along during the meal to check that everything was alright. The bread pudding was good, however. Overall rather disappointing.

We came for breakfast and were not disappointed. The food was excellent, and the bacon was exceptionally good. Everything was served really hot, and on hot plates too. Service was efficient and friendly as always. A real holiday treat, and a very good start to the day. Well done The Burton!

We called at The Burton for an evening meal whilst walking the Offa's Dyke path and after being let down by another establshment nearby. The Burton was clean and well-maintained, service was excellent and we were served a good wholesome meal in double-quick time.

It was a busy evening here when we called in for a meal - I think there was a world cup football match on the television in another part of the bar. Thankfully this did not affect the service. We were served quickly at the bar with drinks and the beef bourginon we ordered (is that how you spell it), was declicious.

I went here for a midweek lunch with my mum and was pleased to find a good choice of meals both traditional and a little different. Mum had scampi which was tasty and served with chunky chips that were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside and cooked to perfection, along with a side salad which contained every salad ingredient you could name and lovely creamy coleslaw made on the premises. I ordered chick pea and sweetcorn patties which were really tasty and served with the same salad and coleslaw. We ate in the garden at the rear which is beautifully maintained and planted. Would definitely visit here again.

We liked the fact that the food was cooked to order so it arrived fresh and it was hot. There was a good choice on the menu to hopefully please everyone.

We have visited the restaurant here many times, and always enjoyed excellent food. The staff are friendly and very helpful This is a genuine family-friendly place and well used by locals as well as visitors. The menu has plenty of choice and the food is well presented and delicious. As well as the restaurant, I would recommend popping in at any time for a coffee in the lounge.

We has a lovely evening in the Burton Bar last night. I had the lasagne with chips and my partner had Chorizo and butter bean stew, both meals were piping hot and delicious! The portion sizes are very generous too. We had desserts, I had a chocolate truffle citrus torte and my partner had a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. All meals and desserts were served promptly and staff were very pleasant. The bar was very busy with locals, unsurprisingly as my partner enjoyed a pint of the local Wye Valley bitter for only £2.60! I guess if you wanted a quieter, more intimate atmosphere to eat in there is a restaurant adjacent to the bar.

We stayed on a special offer for £89 B+B 2 night 2 people which was excellent value for money. Breakfast was very good. I had cold local ham with egg and tomato, whilst my husband had a full cooked breakfast. Both were very tasty. What was really nice was getting properly cooked toast served hot!The spa was super, we had a swim before breakfast.

A family group ate here recently ranging in ages from 10 to 90 and there was something to suit everyone on the menu. There is a small eaters choice which suited the kids and the oldies with their smaller appetites. Good range of dishes available from the old favourites of scampi and lasagne to more unusual items like chorizo and butter bean stew. The best thing on the menu are the curries. They are all homemade using fresh ingredients - nothing from a jar! The Thai fish curry was particularly good. The service is very friendly with nothing too much trouble. We will definitely be returning.

Having had good meals at this pub previously! we were very disappointed with our sirloin steaks, which were difficult to cut with a steak knife and after chewing my mouthful for what seemed like ages! making little progress I had to take out and leave on the plate, (there was no gristle on the steak) with the rest of the stake! When the server came by and asked if everything was OK I had to point out that it was hard to cut with a steak knife and as difficult to chew! the server returned and said they'd knock off the price of the steaks! we came to pay and weren't sure of what 2 meals at £21.00 was on the bill, and we were told the rest of the meal which was a small portion of chips and tomatoes and a sauce which stayed on the plate with the steak my friend's steak wasn't good either same problems as my steak, he sent the chips and tomatoes back!! but kept the steak for his dog!!! It was in my opinion silly to charge us for the chips and tomatoes as I wasn't going to write a review! but when they charged us for part of the meal and our evening was ruined and had to go home and make something to eat I'm afraid this pub has gone down in our estimation and we won't be returning for another steak!

We stayed here overnight and booked the restaurant for our evening meal. Lovely staff, in a lovely surrounding. It’s a shame it was dark so we couldn’t see the views. Nice selection of starters, mains and desserts and we managed to enjoy all three. In the morning, the breakfast menu was plentiful and the sausage and bacon from a local butcher were very tasty.

Service excellent , food hot and O.K. Car park very dangerous with large holes, Marstons need to repair urgently before someone falls and claims compensation.
