Had an amazing Mother’s Day meal with my family (5 adults plus 2 children) today. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our table which was beautifully decorated. Service throughout was really good, the food was superb and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We enjoyed starters of soup, fish cakes, cheese parcels and garlic mushrooms followed by sea bass, chicken and pork with plenty of tasty vegetables (broccoli cauliflower carrots roast and mashed potatoes plus parsnips) to accompany our main courses. The desserts included chocolate mousse, Prosecco roulade and ice cream for the little ones. There were drinks to suit everyone too. All in all we had a superb meal in gorgeous surroundings served by the wonderful staff at the Bullrush Bistro. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant!!

Driven past this place lots of times always thinking we need to try it, so today we did after my daughter recommended it. Absolutely lovely. We were warmly greeted on arrival, give a table for 2 with great views of the lake. Ordered a latte, 2 full English breakfasts, a tea, orange juice and water. Everything was first class, lovely drinks, food was great and everything felt excellent quality even down to the cutlery. Customer service was spot on. Lunch and evening menus looked great, we will be back to try those plus one of their theme nights. The whole place was spotlessly clear, toilets were immaculate and lots of parking. Absolutely nothing to fault, would recommend, thanku.

I never wrote reviews as I just never have time however I keep meaning to regarding this venue as I feel people who suffer from allergies just need to be aware. Please note I am basing this on one afternoon with one specific team - other days may present a different picture. We went for a pre-booked afternoon tea for a baby shower. Something that is booked well in advance. My baby had quite a bad milk allergy and I am breastfeeding so have to avoid milk. This was forwarded onto them in advance and they can back and said no problem, just one question would you prefer oat or soya milk for your coffee with the afternoon tea? I thought great they know what they’re doing. On arrival they found out ‘which one’ had the milk allergy and brought me my own milk - great!!! However things rapidly declined from here. The afternoon tea was brought out with no separate tea for myself. I thought this looks extremely good if it’s dairy free - I’d better ask. The response was - sorry we didn’t know there was a dairy allergy, we only got told about a milk allergy so that’s why we gave you soya milk for your coffee.’ I have never been so flabbergasted in a restaurant before. I patiently explained that milk is in lots of things dairy equals milk etc however this lady just kept repeating herself and saying how she didn’t know what to suggest. So then she said I’ll go ask the kitchen. She came back with a plate of offerings on - a plain ham sandwich no spread or anything, a wrap with chicken and some sauce in, cup of grapes and wait for it - a scone. I asked is this a dairy free scone??? She said yes it’s plain no cream. (Hold hand on head emoji!) she also couldn’t tell me what was in the wrap and didn’t seem keen to offer to find out. I asked for the allergen menu - none of the afternoon tea was even in it. There was no apology and NO understanding of a milk allergy whatsoever even in the kitchen which is very worrying. Needless to say I didn’t eat the scone and won’t be returning.

Just got home from a lovely family lunch at the Bullrush Bistro in Barnburgh. Excellent food well presented by efficient knowledgeable staff. We even took a takeaway lunch home for our son. As a family we had a mixture of food and all dishes were top class and cooked to order. Well done The Bullrush. Lovely to have such a lovely place within walking distance

Was a little uninspired to be fair though I appreciate it was a Monday lunch it was empty There wasn’t much on lunch menu that inspired us Ended up with a sandwich with Monterey Jack and chutney it was just a bit bland The Mayo given was tasteless the coleslaw was mixed with this too and had no seasoning £13 for a sandwich is a tad steep Id come back and have another go for some of the specials that I saw on FB but it was just a little uninspiring

Went today for brunch. Warm welcome at the door and taken to a table for two with lovely country views over the fishing lakes. Good selection, we chose eggs Florentine that were cooked to perfection. Delicious coffee. The place was quite full and everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves. The full breakfast was popular and looked lovely, if filling. Definitely recommended.

We went for lunch yesterday and came away feeling like we've had our pants pulled down. Lovely place and the staff are amazing however £50 for 2 burger and chips plus 4 drinks 3 soft. Disappointed the burgers weren't home made for £16 each. We ordered the wild boar burger with brandy sauce. After 30 mins the lady asked what sauce we would like as there's no brandy sauce. We had mayo. The menu Is very basic nothing like the images on the website no steaks etc. When you pull into the car park the first thing you see is a dog laid on an old ripped leather sofa outside the rear of the property not good first impression. The patio is full of weeds and needs some TLC. Sorry won't be returning.

My wife and I visited here for our first post-Covid “Date Night” and overall it was a very good experience, with just a couple of hiccups holding it back from the full five stars. The restaurant has a beautiful location, set in gardens overlooking fishing lakes with views across the Dearne valley and up to Barnbrough Crags and High Melton. It’s nicely decorated and has a large outdoor terrace, perfect for the social distant dinner. Our evening got off to a shaky start. My wife and I are having a non-drinking spell, so are not drinking any alcoholic drinks. Not really an issue normally as there are lots of good non alcoholic beers and several decent Prosecco style fizzes. We emailed them beforehand about this and asking what they had to offer, but got no reply. When we arrived the staff said they had low alcohol beers, and agreed that we could “BYO” low alcohol wine (we had a bottle in the car) for a corkage fee. All well and good, but when I asked for a low alcohol beer non was available. A couple of minor considerations there. Things improved when the menu arrived. It’s heavily meat based, but otherwise well as the balanced, and has a choice for everyone. It also included some unusual options; such kangaroo steaks, braised smoked ox cheek, and roast haunch of Mouflon. I am a bit of a foodie, but didn’t know what a Mouflon is, so I asked. Problem was the waitress didn’t really know either, suggesting it was a breed of Scottish sheep, which it isn’t as it turns out. Anyway we had Ox Cheek and Mussels to start. Both were excellent, with huge portions! My only quibble is that the Mussels were the large green lipped variety, not the smaller, sweeter North Sea mussels which I prefer, and the menu did not clarify this. However they were perfectly cooked and I enjoyed them. Mains were rack of lamb and a Belgian Blue rump steak. Again both were excellent, and it was good to see the chef naming the breed of the cow which I ate part of. My quibble here is that the menu could have benefitted from a better description. Few diners would have known what a Mouflon is, and a few words about it being a rare and ancient breed of sheep, considered to be the original breed from which all other sheep descended would have been useful, as would telling customers that Belgian Blue is a breed of cattle, and not a style of cooking! Minor quibbles I know, but I highly recommend this place. It’s beautiful, the food is imaginative, hearty, and very well cooked. It’s at the high end of South Yorkshire dining at £10 plus per starter, and £23-£26 for mains, but the food is top quality, and well worth it.

Been to the Bistro for lunch today. The food presentation is very good but overly expensive for what is served over a lunchtime service and most of the menu was fish and seafood based. However, my main concern was that I did not feel as safe as I should have regarding COVID-19. There was hand sanitiser outside and a one way system employed but the room between tables was unchanged which meant that diners were passing close to the edge of the table to get out. Also although one of the waitresses had a mask on continuously a younger one had her mask more round her neck than on her face and also kept passing the edge of the table without it in situ to clean other tables.

First time visit and first impressions were excellent. Venue superb and friendly greeting. Just called for a light lunch - sandwich we thought? Coffee and cake perhaps? Seated promptly but really disappointed with the choice on the menu. Very elaborate food - and prices to match. Considering it was lunchtime a very very limited choice. Not everyone wants a massive posh gourmet meal at dinner time. Settled for a panini which when eventually arrived (very long wait!!) was very nice and tasty. But at £10.95 it should have been!! Coffee very nice. Overall - Id recommend having an alternative daytime menu to go with the other one which looked superb for an evening meal. You’d pull in far more local trade offering better value lunch bites. I’ve also been told they don’t have a children’s menu which immediately wipes out families just out for a local bite to eat. Surely your chef is up to being able to offer something for children even if this is not your main target audience. We’re local so will visit again - just for a special occasion and without the kids (as we wouldn’t be prepared to pay full meal prices for young children!)

Well I probably wouldn’t have written a review unless prompted by trip advisor. There were 7 of us for Sunday lunch. Whilst the food and the service were ok there’s something missing that I can’t quite put my finger on. I can say that all 7 of us were not impressed with the blood red gravy I’m sorry but it just doesn’t work. I really want the bulrush to succeed but whilst the food was ok I think the prices are a bit expensive for what it is and where it is bearing in mind there are 3 local pubs within a mile radius that are much less expensive. I would say that the Scillies that we had for starter were excellent. The main course was ok some of us had beef that was a bit tough and we had to request extra roasties there was plenty of veg. Not sure about the purple carrots either. Whilst it wasn’t a disaster I don’t think we would go again for Sunday lunch. Sorry

So we tried this place again after our last experience was a disappointment. Because of this we was given a £10 voucher to use, so we thought why not we will go for breakfast. After an older blonder haired lady greeted us with a big smile we thought, this is better and looked forward to our breakfast. Our order was taken, the food came out which was lovely but for the price you pay I don’t think you get enough. So I went to pay the bill and use our voucher to be told you only have a month to use it, but we will honour it. The elderly women with the big smile then turned sour faced with a right attitude. A guy then questioned my previous review saying why put it on here we could of sorted it! You had your chance and palmed us off with a £10 voucher! If you do not want to hear the truth about your business don’t opt to be on trip advisor. It’s a shame because the food is nice, but won’t be rushing back I’m afraid. Learn from your mistakes and always be happy and smiling even if you feel the customer is wrong! Learn from this!

Yesterday we had our wedding reception at the Bulrush. As everyone know this is a process that takes time to organise. We had a couple of meeting with Des (The chef) and the owner. Everytime we met we were given impression that nothing was too much trouble for them. We were sent menus to chose from and also were told if we really wanted something else it wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived the tables looked lovely exactly how my wife wanted them. Service was excellent when we arrived and the serving staff quickly served a round of drinks. Well what can I saw about the food.. it was superb. Every single dish we had was excellently cooked and perfectly presented. As it's all cooked fresh as you'd expect it does take time especially when you've 24 people to serve. All the food was hot and smelt delicious. Everyone commented on how lovely the food was. Even made special dishes for one guest with allergies. We cannot thank you enough for a perfect end to a wonderful day

Firstly I must start by saying that when I left the Bistro I was asked to get in touch with the staff but I have never tried to contact them after such shocking behaviour towards myself, family and friends.Five of us popped in for midday lunch, snacks, for my youngest daughters 21st birthday in July. We arrived and on looking at the menu decided just to have a drink. We had two younger girls with us who were fussy eaters and there was not a lot on the menu for them to choose from. Also I was shocked at the prices for midday, £7.95 for a bowl of soup is I think expensive. Our drinks took some time to arrive and the order was wrong. The waitress argued the difference between diet and zero coke. She did eventually bring the correct drink as we had ordered but it was warm and certainly not been kept in a fridge.I had both of my daughters with me on this day. One of my daughters is seriously ill and awaiting neuro surgery this month. She was hungry and so we decided to order food instead of going else where. One of the girls only ordered a bowl of chips as this was the only item on the menu she liked. I ordered the soup for practically the same reason and to keep the cost down. The food took such a long time to appear. My friend went to the bar and could see the bowl of soup and chips under lamps to keep them warm. At this point we had waited 45 minutes for two burgers. You could see the bread and salad on the plates waiting for the burgers to be added.Sadly my daughter who is awaiting surgery became ill and went to sit with me outside. A staff member did bring a cold cloth for my daughter and said he was the appointed first aid staff member. We then came back into the restaurant and as we were sat down my daughter lost consciousness. I went to tell the waitress that we were having to leave the restaurant due to my daughter being ill but that I knew I would have to pay for the food. One of the waitresses was lovely, lady with blond hair, and asked if there was anything she could do. However, we needed to leave urgently. Then the food suddenly appeared. One waitress said are you wanting this, with my daughter only just regaining consciousness she plonked a plate in front of her. I walked outside with my daughter to sit in the fresh air again. A waitress brought my bowl of soup outside and a it had a small piece of toasted bread with no butter. Honestly I just did not have the appetite for it with everything that was happening. My daughter ate none of her meal. Started to feel ill again and my friends escorted her to my car where she collapsed again. Whilst they were doing so I went to the bar to pay for the bill. I was again prepared to pay the full bill which I did even though my daughters meal was untouched and other meals not fully eaten due to the circumstances. After paying the bill the waitress asked me if we had enjoyed our visit. I honestly said no as we had waited far too long for our food and my daughter had been too ill to eat her meal. I did say I thought it was unfair to pay for my daughters meal but I had done so. The waitress said she would go and speak with someone in the kitchen. There was an older lady at the back of the bar serving drinks and the waitress also spoke with her about this matter, they both had there backs to me whilst chatting. Please remember that this is all after paying the bill in full. The waitress came back and said that there was nothing that could be done in regards to the bill. I also said that I found the older lady to be rude and that I would not be returning to this establishment especially as she could not even acknowledge my complaint or give me eye contact.I then walked out to find my daughter sat in the car in a collapsed state again and I needed to get her to the hospital urgently. The older lady then came running out of the restaurant shouting and was very rude and confrontational towards me. The gentleman cooking was heard by my friends making remarks towards us that if we wanted fast food we should have gone to McDonald's. Lastly a gentleman came into the car park with some money in his hand pushing it towards me and asking me to take it, which I did not. As I drove away my friends heard this gentleman say let her take it if anything bad happens to her it will look poor on us.Now I must add that the restaurant looks wonderful with beautiful fittings etc. The little bit of soup I had was very nice but it was expensive for what it was (tomato and basil). I can't say how good the burger was as my daughter did no touch it and I did not want to take it home wrapped up in foil for her as the staff had suggested. However, this I do know. I would certainly never return to this establishment again. Personally I feel the way we were treated was shocking and I have never experienced anything like it anywhere in the world. Such rudeness towards paying customers is a joke especially when a medical emergency was taking place right in front of there eyes. My daughter was genuinely ill during this visit having lost consciousness twice. The lack of sympathy, help and concern we received was appalling and the experience is one I will never forget.

Went today for a family get together. Service was very slow, we only ordered mains and our food finally arrived an hour and a half after ordering. We arrived at 1, ordered by 1.30, last mains came out at 2.40. Such large gaps between dishes coming out that some people in our group had finished before others had even received their meal. I spoke to the staff (who were very friendly and polite, even when I told them I wasn't very happy) and they advised we should have preordered as we were a party of 15. Fair enough but someone could have at least advised us of this when we arrived instead of just leaving us twiddling our thumbs for so long. Food was dissapointing. I had fish and chips which was £15 and nothing special. Husband had a chicken breast burger which he said was dry and had no sauce on it. Overall I think it's really overpriced for what it is. I don't mind paying for good food and good service but unfortunately don't feel I got either. Won't be going back I'm afraid.

After coming here for breakfast a couple of months ago we thought to try the main menu on an evening. The setting is beautiful in the middle of no where, and the staff are really nice and friendly. We booked earlier in the week and arrived, we sat outside to start and when we got the menu our first thoughts was, wow this is expensive! I don't mind paying for top quality service and food, as I work for a prestige brand myself and my customer service is exceptional. We then watched the sunset and went inside, to find a baby shower was on, fair enough everyone wants a great time! The noise was ridiculous, so much to the fact we asked to move. It then came even more nosier, to the point where I was going to tell them myself to be quiet. If it was £9.99 a dish then I could kind of get it, but when the bill is nearly £100 I find it shocking and not a good experience. It was our date night, I to say we was upset is an understatement! My girlfriend was close to tears when we got in the car to come home! Its totally embarrassing and out of order!

Good quality ingredients however when asked if we could substitute two items of the breakfast for one alternative told that we could pay extra This restaurant doesnt offer a reduction on their prices if you dont have some of the items, double standards. Whilst we were there another lady also asked for a substitute but was told that black pudding didn’t have the same value as a hash brown. Shame that this spoilt our visit so wont be rushing back. Also waited a long time for the breakfast and the restaurant was not busy perhaps because of the inflexible chef.

We decided to have the 2 course which came with a bottle of house wine. When it came was warm. Waitress apologised and took it away to cool it. When It came back was better but still not cold. Came back twice after that. They changed the bottle in the end. ? Why not have bottles already cool. Menus were interesting but if you don’t like sea food then limited. We had lamb and Cannelloni. Sides were tailored more towards meal dishes than the Cannelloni. Garlic bread or something like that would have been nice. Not the choice of potato dishes. Taking all that into account the food we had was well cooked and tasty. Good choice of desert. We would eat there again.

Barnburgh Fishing Lakes are well kept and a pleasurable visit for anglers. However, if, like a lot of Fisheries you want to use the cafe on site, that's a different thing. The cafe "Bistro" does not really want to cater for fishermen. We could tell that when we went in for a breakfast and were greeted by a lady that really didn't want us in her Bistro!! She was unhelpful and thrust a menu in front of us to choose from. We had a breakfast and a cup of coffee, standard for any fisherman before a day's pleasurable fishing. However, the price £7.95 no drink - and an extra £2.40 for a cup of coffee. Over £10.00 for a breakfast. The eggs were runny, mushrooms were hard and the toast (1 slice) was cold - Will not be eating breakfast here again. If the Bistro do not want Riff Raff Fishermen please put a sign on the door

As a regular Bullrush coffee shop customer, I had no hesitation in reserving 7 places for mother’s day at the Bullrush, Barnburgh. I booked over the phone. There was kitchen noise (understandable) at the Bullrush end. I explained that I was struggling to hear and the lady said she was struggling also, she was a little deaf and promised to email the menus out. When I asked what was on the menu again she said the menu would be sent out later. Familiar with the coffee shop menu, I paid the £35.00 deposit as requested. On receipt of the menu, it became apparent this wasn’t the normal family menu that we could all enjoy. My father is non fish eating vegetarian and given it was for Mother’s Day, my first thought was, mother would not enjoy her meal knowing that her husband (of 55 years) wasn’t able to choose either a starter or main course to his liking. I called the restaurant (Thursday 28th) and left a message requesting a call back to discuss the menu. Rather than 7 dissatisfied customers leave the Bullrush on Sunday, I thought it would be in everyone’s best interest to cancel the reservation. No callback came. I rang again Friday 29th at 08.45 am. I explained that 3 men in the party did not enjoy fish, one being my 87 year old father. I also explained that the silverside roast beef is not what we would usually serve. I asked if my deposit would be refunded. ( I was still within my 14 days cooling off period.) Having given the restaurant optimum notice once I’d seen the menu , the lady I spoke to said no, it is non refundable. I said I was surprised, having explained my reasons and it was in preference to 7 unhappy customers leaving the restaurant on Sunday. She again said no, the deposit is non refundable because they had bought 3 Mother’s Day gifts (given that there were 3 mums in our party). I asked if the places could be filled or the Mother’s Day gifts returned? (Aware that the bistro closes at 9pm and we were having this conversation before 9am on Friday. ) She said that was unlikely and that they had already had to decline other bookings. At this point I expressed my disappointment again and said in that case,I will write a review to reflect this on tripadvisor.

Been a few times to the Bulrush and it’s always a great place for a morning meeting with a nice breakfast. The lovely waitress explained that they had a revamped breakfast menu and were trialling an ‘everything omelette’, which is like a full breakfast in an omelette.

I have been a couple of times before and have always enjoyed the food and service; however that wasn’t the case when we went for breakfast. We arrived ordered tea and coffee and two full breakfasts, so far so good! After 10 minutes the drinks arrived at which pint we thought the food would arrive, boy were we wrong!!! After 30 mins we had to order another tea and coffee as the food had not arrived this time we asked for the drinks to come with the breakfast. After a further 25 minutes the breakfast arrived!!! That was a wait of 55 minutes which for breakfast is unacceptable, further more there was no apology either!! The breakfast it self was very mediocre we asked for well done bacon it was lucky if it had seen pan!! The sausage was supposed to be award winning I don’t know what award it had won maybe the cheap sausage award. The mushrooms had been microwaved (even though the menu stated fried with tarragon) and the baked beans well they tasted and looked cheap. The best item on the plate were the vine roasted tomato. Very disappointed will not be going back

Called in for coffee but decided to stay for lunch, wow it was delicious, Desmond the chef certainly has a flair for delicious appertaining food both in quality and presentation, we were certainly very impressed. I had grilled prawns with sticky risotto and my husband had pan fried cod, I would highly recommend a visit for lunch or evening meal.

Full English breakfast was awful! Mushrooms were oily, egg was broken and hardly any yolk left, bread was dry it wasn't even normal bread it was grey almost like gluten free! Cheap butter, not enough to cover the bread anyway. For £7.50 I ate 1 sausage, 1 rash of bacon and a few beans. Cannot say how bad it was, worst in my life. Refund should be given

Three of us had a lovely evening here. The food was very good, Beef Wellington and sea trout well cooked and chocolate pudding with liquid chocolate filling was really delicious. Portions were more than adequate, couldn’t finish the pudding unfortunately. The restaurant itself overlooks a lake, is really clean and there is a great feel about it.

Just got back from a lovely evening at The Bulrush Bistro. What a beautiful setting for a restaurant. The style and decor are perfect, as is the ambience. I had Beef Wellington followed by Chocolate Fondant. Both were cooked perfectly and to my liking, and were extremely tasty and well presented. My dad tried the trout and loved it, it did look delicious. The portion sizes were also very generous. All the waitresses and staff were very attentive and friendly too. A really great place to try, and I will be back again to try some of the other delicious sounding dishes.

We popped in after seeing them advertise a bike night on a Tuesday evening, something we cant make but thought we would give lunch a try. The staff were more than welcoming on our arrival, beautiful setting inside and out. I've read a couple of negative views about this place trying to be something it's not. I find that ludicrous. The amount of money that has been put into the quality of this restaurant alone should set this place well above a cafe status. The decor, the bar, the facilities. This place is world class. An amazing selection of drinks, hot and cold. The menu is not excessive, which I believe is a great thing, the focus is dedicated on making a small selection of amazing dishes. Quality not quantity. How ever the chef was very happy to accommodate my young sons simple preference. The food here is excellent. I decided to push out of my comfort zone and try a lobster and crab burger. I loved it. Every meal we had was exceptional. We will definitely be returning over and over. What a beautiful place this is.

Booked a table of 40 following my children’s baptism on Sunday the 27th May 2018. Before I had booked the venue, we explained the time of the service and were told they would be willing to open later for us as we were a large party – something we were greatly appreciative of. Had a meeting with the chef and we opted for the Sunday roast with choices of chicken, beef (which we were advised would be cooked medium and therefore pink) and the salmon. Shortly after arrival, I was approached by a waitress who told me there was not enough chicken to go round as they'd had "quite a busy lunchtime" and sold a lot of it. I wouldn't usually mind this and be understanding, however having sent the chef a pre-order detailing what each of my guests had ordered a week in advance AND having paid in full before the day arrived, I was not impressed by them selling on meals I’d already bought! I do feel that this was unacceptable and due to this, myself and another guest had to swap to beef. It was delicious, however it was more on the well-done side despite us being told it would be medium. The food was ok, there were plenty of vegetables and potatoes to go around, my guests had to ask for a few more gravy boats but they were brought to us promptly and with no issues. The decor and setting are stunning and the bistro was beautifully clean. The waiting staff however left a few of my guests feeling uncomfortable – they felt they were rude and abrupt and as though they couldn’t wait to get us out of the door as soon as possible. I myself heard an exchange between two of the young waitresses who were approaching to clear the table; one mentioned that not all of the party had finished to which the other replied “I don’t even care me, I'm clearing it anyway” and another four guests mentioned that the lady who came around asking if anyone required coffees or desserts simply barked at them “sweets coffees no?” in a rude manner and left before anyone could answer! Upon our departure, my husband went over to thank a member of staff but before he could finish his sentence she just snapped “yeah, thanks bye” and walked off! Overall the experience was ok, but I will not be in a rush to return as the customer service did let the side down.

Visited for the first time having seen the advert in Around Town. Lovely location and modern smart interior with friendly staff. Asked for menu as we might have been tempted to have lunch, I am afraid that was not to be the prices seemed excessive with out drinks a 3 course lunch would have been in excess of £25. Coffee was £2:40 for an Americano amongst the most expensive in South Yorkshire!

Visited for the first time last week..beautiful surroundings and lovely venue. My husband and I ordered the seafood platter..lobster mussels and prawns. I was a little disappointed with the size of the lobster..Felt it was too small to have been fished, therefore not much flesh and difficult to eat. A little disappointed. Service was excellent although we had to wait about 45 for our meal can’t ate up my mind...Really looking for a great food experience....will go back..they are trying hard but could do better

I have recently been diagnosed as coeliac and I was pleased to find that the Bulrush were able to accommodate me, providing gluten free bread as part of the full English. Lovely nice clean welcoming restaurant. Never been before was greeted by lovely staff who couldn’t help us enough. I’m very picky about food and always leave food because it’s not done right or my order was wrong not here. I had a gorgeous charcoaled bun chicken burger it doesn’t sound appealing at all but the bun was soo light and the chicken cooked just how I like it and big potions!!!would recommend this place 100percent pricing reasonable to. Only thing I would say you need more of a desert selection but apart from that lovely! Definantly see you all again!

Now this review is not the best, but I am a serial visitor to this Bistro and meet my ex work colleagues about every 8 to 10 weeks usually for a breakfast. Its a lovely setting good parking clean and idyllic. And from past experiences the food has been excellent along with the service. We also went on the Valentines evening which had a Tapas theme and was lovely. So as you can see a regular customer. Our 40th Wedding Anniversary was impending so we wanted to mark the occasion with our close family a party of eight plus one baby. Early March with my wife we went for a breakfast (full English with a view to booking for our impending 40th Anniversary. I noticed that the menu format of the breakfast had changed although tasty and well presented a little short on the content, now one sausage and rasher of bacon as opposed to two before.

We decided to eat at Bulrush for a birthday lunch, as it had been recommended to us. It's in a lovely position just outside Barnburgh village. There is plenty of car parking space, and has lovely views over the fishing lakes. We were surprised when we entered , as it is quite spacious and tastefully decorated to quite a high standard. A nice place in a lovely setting. Unfortunately food way below our expectations. Ordered fish and chips. We thought the Fish was undercooked so brought it to the attention of waitress who returned it to the kitchen. However she returned with the same fish stating the chef had put the thermometer in it and it was cooked!! Not as far as we were concerned! They did offer to cook another piece of fish which we accepted and was better, flaky white fish not soggy wet fish. However I was then eating on my own as my friend had finished. We left disappointed not having had a good experience with both the quality of the food and the poor customer service.

My friend and I Visited the Bulrush bistro today on the recommendation of other friends. My friend ordered salmon and potato and salad, she asked the waiter if it came with a salad he said yes diced potato salad, however when it arrived it was a piece of salmon with diced potatoes and capers we could have paid extra for a side salad when we queried the salad but we declined. I ordered the fish and chips the presentation looked good even served on a fish shaped plate, however when I cut into the fish the centre was not cooked properly it was still 'gluey' in the centre and not how you expect cooked fish to look, we called the waitress over and she said I will get you a fresh one, however she returned a few moments later and said the chef said 'it is cooked, he stuck the thermometer in it' he may have done but it was certainly undercooked, she said I can get you a fresh one which she eventually did, however the waitress certainly wasn't happy with us not particularly what she said but how she said it. We was very disappointed and certainly won't be using the Bulrush Bistro again.

We organise my friends baby shower here and couldn't have asked for a more attentive group of staff to serve us. The table was set out beautifully and the food was amazing. One of the best afternoon teas i've had. The tea sometimes came out with reused tea bags and looked a bit like dishwater and the servers were a bit precious over us playing baby shower games using pens on the tables. I get that they are expensive tables but it just seemed a bit much to even bring that up when it was on card and we were already taking care. I would say either don't hold baby showers or just let that one go. I loved it here and can't wait to bring my family to try it out too!

Called today with friends on a recommendation. Beautifully clean, welcoming place with great decor. A real Mediterranean feel about the place, lovely reclaimed wooden tables and chairs and added bonus of comfortable seating. Tables well spaced out and plenty of room for anyone with pushchairs and wheelchairs. Staff really attentive. A good choice on the menu we had fish and chips it was beautiful and filling but not over filling where there's too much on a plate to eat so portion sizes are just right. The coffee was a nice size cup and hot (not always the case in some places) the cream and jam scone was scrummy and everything was presented beautifully. You can see in the kitchen from the entrance which is a good sign of cleanliness. Everything about the place was spot on and the staff were extremely pleasant and friendly. Oh and the toilets immaculate. Would definitely return here.

I usually visit the local cafe for a post parkrun breakfast. This place is set within a communal garden in the park and was the obvious choice. Whilst queuing (very slow) we saw the quality of the food and decided to just have coffee. These were very strong and bitter with an after taste of burnt coffee beans. I saw a few park runners that were eating, leave their food, one took theirs back. I can’t comment on food but I get the picture.
