AMAZING food and great atmosphere. We ordered large mixed grill which was cooked perfectly. BIG shout out to Lisa (who cooked it!). You are a credit to the company. Thanks for making my birthday!!!

Visited this morning for breakfast. Paid for two american breakfasts but with one of them with no sausages or bacon swapped for an extra egg and extra pancake (i have ordered this here multiple times before and it has never been a problem). The person who served me at the bar was lovely so this review is not a reflection of his service at all! The person who served me at the bar said it was fine for me to swap the items then after i had paid a chef from the kitchen shouted down at us whilst i was still stood at the bar and said she won’t do the swap for the pancake. I just said that’s fine if i get another egg instead. We then waited for our food at the table and both of the breakfasts came with no bacon, no sausage and no maple syrup. The guy who served me then realised it was wrong and said he will go and get the rest of the items from the kitchen. Then waited another 15 minutes and by this time i had already eaten my meal and my partner was still waiting for his other items. When they were brought over to us our syrup was still missing and they only gave us 1 sausage and 1 small piece of bacon even though on the menu it clearly states 2 of each. We didn’t want to complain and wait another 15 minute so we just left it. Wouldn’t really expect that sort of stinginess from here as it’s never been like that before, and the chef shouting down to me and the server was completely unprofessional! Probably won’t visit again for breakfast

I go to this pub usually once a week,as a family or couple,good atmosphere,specially on weekends,race days or holidays,the staff is always enthusiastic and helpful?even in really busy days,the pub is big enough to cater for everyone and there’s always a nice corner for you to seat and watch the world go by.Food wise,I think is prepared with care, attention to detail and we are very fussy,so I think they do a good job.I had there recently the new ramen bowl with chicken breast and it was so tasty that I think it tasted better than the one I had recently at Wagamama at a fraction of the price with a nice Belgium beer.And the service was better than those big chain restaurants.In my opinion of course. So thank you Wetherspoons Bull and stirrup hotel in chester.

we did not know Chester had 2 wetherspoons so we tried to find this one it was not that far from where we where staying it is a busy pub good atmosphere good food and drink

Typical spoons. You get what you see and nothing else. Great range of beers, lagers, and spirits on offer. It bit spit and sawdust in places. Finished plates were not cleared away for a long time, which meant tables were sticky. It gets very busy, which may explain why. Drinks can be ordered via the spoons app, but as most spoons you could have a problem with the wi fi signal.

Staff were rude and it was too crowded and lots of rubbish outside including cigarette ends and vape packets. Not a good experience

Great Wetherspoons. Plenty of seating areas both inside and out. Food quality was excellent. Staff were really polite and helpful. Will definitely return when next in Chester.

On the 25th May 2024, a couple friends and I came to the area for a couple of drinks. A lady called Sam, who was not a manager nor had any status that allowed her give any sorts of orders, refused my one friend, who has a speech impediment as well as hip dysplasia, was refused a drink due to her being “intoxicated.” This was entirely untrue as it would’ve been her second drink and the basis of her refusal was due to her stutter and her walk. As explained to Sam, she was not drunk yet due to her disorders this was her on a daily basis. Sam ignored us entirely, told the other staff to also not serve her nor any of our 9 friends due to this. The manager was very helpful in the situation when explained and as we told him to check CCTV and rewatch the situation as she had only had 1 drink, he allowed her to have a drink. When Sam was confronted on the situation she laughed and smirked, i find this entirely disgusting as Sam will have no sort of punishment on the basis of her discrimination. This is out of order and the staff all sat there and laughed, clearly bored of their job and wanted to find some entertainment.

Usually wetherspoons, git a wine and it was served in a gin glass as they had no wine glasses. Staff had one speed very slow. Know one seemed interested in serving or doing much of anything. Tables needed clearing . Lots off staff busy doing nothing.

In Chester for the weekend and stopped in at The Bull & Stirrup Pub. Friendly staff and a nice friendly atmosphere. Had a snack and a few drinks and coffee and a snack the following day.

Called in for our evening meal whilst having a few days in Chester. We'd become a bit disillusioned with spoons around the country with standards seeming to slip, but we're happy to report that The Bull and Stirrup is flying the flag for Wetherspoons. Had a lovely meal, portions were generous, food was good quality and piping hot but what makes this place is the staff. Even though they were really busy they still had time to use manners but more than that they used their personalities - friendly, warm and welcoming and made the effort to speak and listen. A great pub and the staff are an absolute credit to the company.

We decided we would have a few drinks in Chester and as some pubs would be charging £6 a pint we thought we would try Wetherspoons.The pub was pretty busy but we soon got served a pint of Stella for £4.11 and we then sat outside as the British weather had given us a little bit of sunshine(global warming has not reached this area)We will be back in the near future.

We like to dine at a Wetherspoons when away in our caravan so decided to have lunch here when visiting Chester. We both chose a small portion of Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas. I had an included Cherry Pepsi which was a very reasonable price of £7.74 and my husband had a pint of Guinness with his at a cost of £9.14. We didn't have to wait long for our meals and enjoyed them. I understand it opened as a hotel and pub in 2017 so carpets etc., were in good condition.

I've had a hamburger but it was disgusting. No problem with Guinness but food was just basic, cooked over and tested disgusting....

Always head for this pub when shopping in Chester because we find the drinks are good value for money and good atmosphere in the newly build section of this pub . There is also a good mix of age groups with families with children mainly taking up the older section.. On our last visit however, we were sat close to three men who were sat on the bar stools in oily, greasy work jacket and trousers and I find this unacceptable and inconsiderate of them to do so. When they left, someone else was going to sit there and may well be wearing nice clothing , completely unaware of what has been left on the seat. Bars always had a sign saying NO WORKING CLOTHES but that doesn't seem to apply anymore, mores the pity.

Fairly large Wetherspoons located conveniently for Chester Bus Station. Four real ales on offer at the time of our visit, all were well kept. Friendly staff and food service was reasonably quick although portion size was quite small. Only a short walk into the historic city centre.

Can you go wrong with a Wetherspoons? It does exactly what it says on the tin, bar staff were friendly enough and drinks / food arrived in a good time however I must say the gents toilets leave a lot to be desired! They look very modern and clean however the smell is outrageous!

It was busy on the day we went in, but after getting there and buying a drink at the bar there weren't many tables available but the ones that where had dirty plates, glasses, condiments and bits of food left on and under the tables. If food and hygiene went in they would probably get heavily fined. I went and asked a member of staff at the bar if they could clean the table. I even gave the table number but nobody came to clean it. We finished our one and only drink there and left. The bull and stirrup in chester city centre is without doubt the most disgusting pub I have been in. Rotten food left with flys hanging around in winter. Absolutely disgusting

Never been here before. Come for food and both food and the staff were excellent. Genuinely interested if the food was good for us and it was lovely - great visit.

Popped in for breakfast after seeing it in the Wetherspoons magazine. Very nice inside plenty of nooks and crannies. It was the coldest and windiest day of the year , so finding a spot away from the single glazed (listed windows) and ever opening doors was a priority. The new annexe provided all the answers. Everything else was up to Wetherspoons usual standards. Full marks!

I asked for Cod and chips. There was no Cod again, so I had Scampi, chips and peas. I've never had that before so didnt know what to expect. I got chips ,mushy peas and 3 pieces of Scampi. They were smaller than my thumb which is not overly large. I thought that it was a very small portion.

Me and hubby stayed over Saturday night, weren’t sure what to expect as was last minute and only the more expensive hotels were available so lucky to get in at a very reasonable price. We were pleasantly surprised, the room on the top floor was lovely, clean and had plenty of space with a small alcove where the kettle and tea/coffee available. Also an iron, ironing board and a hairdryer ! What more could you ask for! We ate there and as it was a Saturday night was very busy but managed to find a table. Food was fine as was breakfast the next day. Just a short walk to the centre of Chester and multi storage car park next door which was so handy ! Would definitely stay here again!

Visited on the Friday and Saturday which with any hotel is usually more expensive however with the rooms so small thought it was a little expensive at £224 for the two nights. Appreciate you can’t change the room sizes in a grade 11 listed building but this was definitely not the usual value for money you get from Wetherspoons. Bar was its usual good value and the staff worked hard bit of a let down on the Saturday ran out of fish and no idea how you can run out of bacon on the breakfast shift. Outside area left with all the debris from the night before so not very appealing for an early morning coffee

Ate here a few times and had a few too many drinks too. Very fast service through the app and the staff bringing food and drink to your table served with a smile. Food as good usual and the burgers were fab.

I am not complaining about the bill or receipt. I want to make a formal complaint about the manager of this pub. He was rude, sarcastic, threatening and patronising aswell as a liar. This was towards myself and also verbally towards my friends. This wetherspoons...

Had lunch on a Wednesday and could not fault the service, quality of food and cleanliness of this pub. The pub was three quarters full of customers,but the food arrived piping hot and quickly. Will certainly recommend it to family and friends.

The bar was far too busy, overcrowded and difficult to move round. Staff were run off their feet, but did well with the service considering. Looked an interesting building, but we had one drink and left. Probably call back when not too busy

We decided to try the Bull&Stirrup; as we have not been here since they opened up over 30 months ago,we ordered food and we could not believe that within 15 minutes the food was on the table considering how busy the pub was,all the meals were hot and very tasty we will be back in the future.

We stayed for a couple of nights. Check-in was at the bar, really friendly and efficient. The room was compact but comfortable, quiet even though on the front of the building and the shower was lovely and powerful. This is a nice pub, friendly helpful staff and just outside the city walls but literally 5 minutes walk from the cathedral and main square

Called in for breakfast which we enjoyed we had a breakfast wrap and big breakfast, the staff are very nice and friendly, we did notice the porridge comes plain and if you want any fruit etc it's extra now, also the steaks have changed went in a different day on the steak day, we did have steaks they were cooked very nicely, again very nice staff came and checked everything was alright with our food, nice friendly atmosphere, toilets not too bad, great Wetherspoons quite busy lots of people coming and going, recommend here,

We tend to visit a Wetherspoons in every town we visit usually because the food is reasonable and not highly priced.

Stayed for one night got key cards from the bar very quickly and efficiently and up to the room,you have to use the room card to get through locked doors up to your room so keep them handy. For the price would highly recommended.

Lunchtime meal for three, good food and beer! And relatively cheap! First time using the app to order food, very impressed!!

The pub is set just on outskirts of Chester town and only a few minutes walk away.

The hotel is surprisingly quiet considering it’s above a busy pub. The location is brilliant - a short walk to everything. However, it’s not the best places to stay.

7 of us called in for breakfast after most had had their annual flu jabs,very good value and a very big choice of eats to chose from not seen a bigger breakfast menu and as many teas or coffees as you like once you,d bought your first one.all meals ranging from full english,bacon butties wraps, even pancakes were cooked nicely though I still don,t see why people love hash browns ? not on my favourites list but was all round a decent bit of grub at a competitive price and well worth another visit.

Always love a visit to Weatherspoons. We stayed for 1 night in the rooms above while we were in Chester for the races. Enjoyed the Curry night. Had the breakfast but had to return my sausage sandwich...it was cold !

I visited the pub with seven friends. Myself and one other ordered a Signature Sirloin Steak. Neither of us was served with mushrooms, even though it was on the menu. No explanation was given by the unsmiling waiter. We both ordered the steaks to be done 'Blue', but both were nearer medium-rare. Neither of us complained.

We had the small English Breakfast/ egg, sausage, bacon and beans- all very tasty. Cappuccino from the machine was as one might expect. Very friendly service and prompt. Lots of historical photos on the walls with explanations. Who knew Daniel Craig was from Chester!

Called for a meal with a group of 12 staying nearby on a golf trip. Although it was quite busy,we found 2 tables for us. Staff were very nice and helpful, all our meals arrived at the same time and were enjoyed by all, my steak was done spot on. Usual excellent prices for drinks although a few of the real ales had run out. Before we left a staff member gave us books ful of discount prices for drinks and food, they'll come.in handy back home!!

Had a hearty breakfast here served by friendly staff. Weatherspoons value all the way and the bonus of refillable coffees. Will be back.

After visiting the other Wetherspoons in Chester - The Square Bottle - we made our way through Chester's picturesque shopping and pedestrianised streets to The Bull & Stirrup Hotel which Wetherspoons have recently refurbished without destroying the character. An impressive frontage on a corner the pub has hotel rooms and would make an ideal choice as it is close to the Bus Interchange with bus access to the Rail Station.

Had a good breakfast here. The staff were friendly and efficient. The place is largely clean and tidy and the atmosphere good.

had food and drinks before races due to costs in chester races a massive rip off there for crap ale and over priced wines, so spoons were a great choice for great value food and drinks

Used the W app for ordering, great. Very popular with students, day and night, can get very busy at times. Plenty of choice but sometimes the food could have been hotter.

Its a wetherspoon pub so you know exactly what you're going to get. Great prices and lots of choice. What made this pub different was the friendly helpful staff, even got asked if my meal was ok which it was it was lovely. The pub was busy but still food was out promptly and pub seemed very clean

Having already had a drink and eats in the other Chester 'spoons' we decided to call in here for a drink. This is the 'buzzier' pub of the two and seems to be very popular with the city students.

I know you get what you pay for, but the food was pretty awful. Southern fried chicken pieces and chips were only just warm enough. No coleslaw left so I was offered another sauce?! Won't eat there again. Do yourself a favour and pay a few pounds extra and eat somewhere else, there are plenty of other places nearby.

We stayed at this Wetherspoons Pub on the 06/05/2019. There was a NCP car park around the corner which cost only £6 overnight. The room was spacious,lovely and clean with bottled water provided and it was sort of double glazed. We were on the main road side and we slept well. The Beer was reasonably priced and the breakfast was all you would expect(nice). we couldn't get in until two o'clock but the Staff were excellent and they locked our Suitcase away.We didn't have to be out until eleven o'clock, which was a bonus as it's usually earlier. We would stay here again. Very good.

Came for food and drinks during chester race week, very busy but good food and lovely staff. Had steak which was cooked really well and very tasty, suet pudding great value. Curry night brilliant, chicken jalfrazi nice and spicy, great value.

I last went into the Bull and Stirrup when I was a student at the, then, Chester College. I don't think I've re-visited a pub that's changed quite so much. The pub part of the hotel back then was a few small rooms at the front. Now it's like a tardis, with a massive vaulted room at the back. The small rooms at the front are still there, interconnected with open archways, but with enough walls in that part to give the sense that you're not sitting in the middle of a barn.

Called in on trip to Chester - food n drinks, decided to order from the table on the Wetherspoons phone app. Very easy, food & drinks arrived at table in 10 mins, we had various burgers with chips, can’t go wrong for 4 meals & drinks for £26, tasty & filling - will go again if we visit Chester again in the future

We stayed overnight here and were very impressed with the standard of the room and how secure it was. We were also very impressed with how quiet it was - you would never have thought it was within a pub. The staff were brilliant - very helpful and informative. The lovely member of staff who checked us in even drew us a little map to help us out as we had never visited before. Thank you very much :) Breakfast was also delicious and the service speedy. We would definitely stay here again.

The room itself is small but quite nice. It is really clean and well presented. The staff are really friendly. However I would not recommend staying here.

We have just returned from a short break to Chester. We had breakfast in this hotel / pub. It is a typical Wetherspoons pub, great food at a great price and fantastic staff.

It's a magnificent building and the interior is equally impressive, with large, open spaces plus some little cubby holes. Service was absolutely excellent, the pint was good and the price very competitive. Enjoy.

Having lived in Chester for the whole of the 2000s I would say, every time we came to play am away match of darts here, the potential of this place is immense. It was begging for a transformation and I managed to get some people on board for a Chester conglomerate to buy the place and fulfil this...sadly too many local businessmen said "too far out of town" "off the beaten track" "all you will get is drunken Blaconers heading home"...and so it never happened...and Tim and his crew came along and implemented the very place I envisaged....except more so. The Wetherspoons posse have the same vision I do for places....and then they take it to another level. I'm probably not looking at maximum profitability but man....is this place fulfilling that premise. Just sitting in the beer garden has fulfilled the dream I had for this place (even if it is full of drunken women stumbling over the cobbles in their ridiculous heels....but that is where the profit lies). A missed opportunity on my part but a big thumbs up to the Wetherspoons crew

Have been here quite a few times recently, one of the better Wetherspoons. Great selection of beers at good prices, reasonably priced menu. Recommended.

Excellent food as usual, good value and plenty of choice. Although they had run out of Pizza by 9.00pm on what was a very busy saturday evening.

Fair prices and well cooked food, though it does get very crowded in the evenings meaning you can struggle to find a table.

Certainly for prices you will find this difficult to beat (and there is a lot of competition in Chester). Well worth walking to just outside the City Walls through the arch as this is a nice pub. Loads of nooks and corners and a decent outside space partly covered as well.

Meet our friends it was his birthday so we started with coffees & teas and then had lunch 3 fish chips mushy peas 1 jacket with tuna a couple of pints of real guest ale and a bottle of pink prosecco .the food was all lovely and didn't have to wait long for it to come the beer and the prosecco was very nice the staff where all very nice and we asked one of them to take a group photo of us which he did will be meeting again in there next month thank you weatherspoons In the Bull & Sturipp Chester for a great meal and good service well done

Wife and I called in early evening on Thursday 7.2.19 for a few drinks. All the staff we dealt with were courteous and helpful. We would go again.
