Apologies for the massive delay is this but we visited the pub while in town for a wedding. We were blown away with just how nice the food and particularly the service was. Some of the friendliest staff I’ve ever experienced. We were served by Shannon and Gina and they couldn’t have done more for us even though the place was packed! Thank you all and sorry this is wildly over due.

I booked the restaurant for Christmas Eve to avoid disappointment and it proved to be a good decision as the pub was packed. Great friendly staff and wonderful food and drink. The menu was seasonal but inventive and all the vegetables were cooked to perfection. The venison stew was rich and indulgent. The selection of beers was modest but tasted great. Definitely a place to visit for a meal, but book first to avoid disappointment. Large beer garden and small players for the kids so should be great for the summer also.

Lovely pub. Great ambience. Local beer is very good. Food is fantastic. I had the steak and kidney suet pudding and it was perfect. Easily the best meal I have had in many years. I don’t live locally which may be just as well as I would be in there most days eating that. My friend’s food was also great and we liked everything about the place. Highly recommend.

Motivated to write this review because we were delighted that we chose our old local to celebrate our Golden Wedding anniversary lunch for 30 friends and family. Food and service were excellent on the day and Shannon and Mandy were so helpful and patient when we were planning our event. Very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Great laid back country pub for a small event, a quiet meal or just a drink.

Great food, cosy friendly Pub and such a lovely waitress she is a credit to your establishment. Not many places say ‘thank you for coming’ when you are leaving and this was a great example of how such little things go a really long way. Would thoroughly recommend this as an alternative to the Bell in Ticehurst for a pub meal as the menu is much larger and more reasonable in price. I had the lamb and mint burger which was lovely- my only feedback would be to grill the brioche bun slightly so it doesn’t go all mushy and collapse, and also ease up on the sauce there was far too much. My wife had the fish pie which was delicious. Thanks for a wonderful experience and especially to the waitress, you have a gem there!

What a Gem of a place! We recently stayed down the road at a nearby glamping site, and made the walk there a few times. The food is outstanding, the best pub food I’ve ever eaten. The staff were friendly and really welcoming. We were on our honeymoon and couldn’t help banging on about it, which resulted in having some drinks with some locals who helped us celebrate. I don’t think I’ve ever been to such a friendly pub, it was such a great experience. We walked through torrential rain on our last night, because I absolutely had to get another burger from there. Sat next to the open fire to dry out and enjoyed a couple of pints. Very memorable experience, I didn’t want to come home. Thank you! We’ll be back.

Lovely place to stop for an impromptu lunch. Beautiful spot - classic historic pub in tiny village, down a country lane close to Ticehurst and Bewl Water. Looking for a light lunch - like most pubs round here not much to choose unless you want a blow-out lunch. But it was a lovely day in the sunshine and we sat outside and had utterly delicious ‘light lunches’ - a burrata salad and steak sandwich. Perfect.

It’s a lovely atmosphere, super cozy. Most of our meals were fine but my steak was just so bad that I had to send it back (it was like eating cardboard). What is unfortunate is that our waitress decided to argue with me about it, then later kept it on the bill and argued with me when I asked for it to be take off (it was taken off but only because I insisted). Note for the Bull management, some customer service lessons might be a great investment.

A charming old pub in the Sussex countryside. We took the detour to refuel on our long (5 hour) hike around Bewl Water. It added almost a (hilly) mile to the walk but definitely worth it. Had to resist the main menu and stick to starters and sides or we’d never get going again. Highly recommend, friendly half-way pit stop on Bewl Water, we plan to come back and try the main menu.

A month ago we spoke to the very helpful daughter of the owner of the Bull explaining that we wished to invite about 45 people to the Bull for a celebration of our golden wedding, We did not ask for any special deal but the young lady said they could accommodate that number and reserve tables for the Sunday carvery which we of course paying for together with wine and champagne etc. Two dates wee put in the diary then and it was not until we phoned last week and spoke to the owner Mandy. She was both aggressive and rude to my wife explaining that she did not want our guests blocking up tables as she could get 150 covers over lunchtime and at one time called my wife a liar when she explained our conversation with her daughter. It was clear she did not want the business and cancelled the booking. I could go on about that phone call needless to say she left my wife in tears and we shall not be going back.

Saturday lunchtime in this lovely old pub in a country setting. Perfect. Good parking. Outdoor tables as well as the restaurant. Attentive staff from the outset. Menu had good range of meals including a section for under 12s. Scampi and Chips, a favourite, was well cooked. Service was very pleasant and helpful. The speciality 'all in one' pie was a meal in itself. Beef with potatoes and veg in a tasty gravy. My daughter had the tortilla wrap with chicken Caesar salad. It was gigantic! Very nice though with plenty of chicken. The ploughmans lunches were attractive with lovely ham and or a selection of cheeses. A massive hunk of bread too. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. We sat overlooking the front garden. A lovely spot. Watch your head on the beams. Desserts we had were a strawberries and cream and a chocolate mouse. Both slipped down very easily. Will definitely be coming back. It's location 5mins from A21 makes it an ideal place just off the beaten track. Thank you.

Atmosphere, good food and staff are what makes a place full of people and really 'tick'. Too many places are so excessively noisy they put you off. Not this one. And the inclusion of a menu of 1,2 or3 courses for 'codgers' (not OLD codgers !) is a good idea for those of us entitled to a Bus Pass. The main menu dish of a 'house pie' which changes daily was full of chicken, ham, vegetables and what matters most was the flavour. Her ladyship had the fish and chips (she usually does) and judged it tasty but too many chips. So, how much better do you want a passing lunch ? Incidentally, people soon find a good establishment even if it is tucked away like this one.

What could make it better? Well if the locals could be persuaded to drink anything other than Harvey's they'd probably offer a better selection of beer and the food is fine - good solid pub food - doesn't pretend to be what it's not and will pleasantly surprise rather than disappoint. What a lovely really old, country pub! Loads of room both inside and out and in a brilliant setting. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the service was extremely good. The food was delicious and portion sizes were very generous. The real ale is kept well and tasted fresh. We would definitely recommend The Bull.

I loved the huge open fireplace, the beers and the good pub grub. Parking is a breeze but a little difficult to find. Excellent spot to finish a trip round Bewl Water.

Great spot to refuel after or during a circuit of Bewl water (12.5 miles, about 5 and a half to 6 hours) hearty portions and friendly service. Roaring fires in winter and lovely atmosphere.

Amazing ale (Harveys). Free pork scratchings (hard to say no). Delicious steak and ale pie. Dog friendly (so much so that they have a dog menu). And a huge roaring open fire. Couldn't have been happier.

We have eaten a number of times at this pub. The standard of food is excellent and always varied. The pub has a lovely warm ambience and the landlord and lady, Arnie and Mandy are very friendly and personable people who always make you feel very welcome. Their daughter, Gina, also works in the pub, and she too, is lovely and extremely efficient. The pub also offers live entertainment from time to time. The last act we saw, a Drag Queen, was totally hilarious and we will be back to see him/her again! Can thoroughly recommend and you would not be disappointed.

After a brisk walk around the local countryside we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome. Log fires burned and the staff were friendly and professional. We were made comfortable at our table (with our four well behaved dogs) and from then on were served drinks including the best pint of Harvey's Best in the area and Delicious food from cheerful, hardworking staff. The food was stunning, large portions, good quality and excellent value. The staff were superb!

Coincidently my partner and I also ventured to The Bull Inn and experienced first hand the incident listed below. In a word WELL DONE to the Landlady in question who held her own very proffesionally against two overpowering rude men. Our experience was to say the least fantastic. Good service, good food, good ambience in lovely surroundings. Well done madame landlady!!

This is an old, cosy pub tucked away in a quiet hamlet near to Bewl Water, ideal for a drink or meal after a walk by the reservoir. However, beware! On a recent visit, we left our car in the car park and set off for such a walk, having first checked serving times and the need to book, which we were told we didn't. On our return a rather frazzled landlady told us that booking was absolutely necessary. So, a simple misunderstanding somewhere. However, she then accused us of lying and making up our whole explanation, before telling us in no uncertain terms to leave. We crept out, bruised and humiliated. So if you do use this pub, be careful what you say to madame.

We popped in here the other day in search of a roast on a cold Sunday. Had the most fantastic lunch, in the beautiful dining room, with friendly service as always. This is a great pub for winter as is very cosy in the actual pub side, and in the summer has beautiful gardens. Always love it here!

4 ladies and a pooch stopped here for a sunday lunch whilst out walking. The roasts were lovely. Not my favourite ive ever had but I would certainly return. Crisps on the bar whilst we waited for our table to be laid and plenty of friendly dogs and very attentive waitresses made this a fantastic lunch venue. It was very busy so would always advise booking at the weekends and is quite cramped and filled with people. Highly reccommend to all.

It was just over an hour drive for us to meet up with friends at the Bull Inn but it was well worth the drive. The Pub restaurant is in a charming setting just outside Ticehurst . The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food portions were generous and of good quality and value. We will certainly, make the effort to go back. Well worth the long drive

Out with my sister and brother in law and we came across the Bull Inn. This looking so appealing we had to take a look inside, and what a welcome we received. Dates back to the fourteenth century and is full of so much character. They have a great selection of real ales, wines and other beers, there menu is very appealing. We had an excellent lunch and a great pint of ale but this is one of those places that you really want to have a couple more beers and stay the night because the atmosphere is so good.

I stopped Monday 17th March. Was hoping for the pub to be honest, but well... Pretty impressed with the fish n chips. Had a middle of skate, chips, curry sauce and a Fanta. All cooked fresh to order. All good. Would recommend if ya either local or in the area. Oh, and good luck getting the pub going lads. Top job 👍

We are staying here for two nights and have been blown away by the service and beautiful rooms. Had a lovely dinner, with the most delicious food and wine. Our waiter Ruyman was incredibly attentive and gave us great recommendations - such wonderful staff and we enjoyed absolutely everything! Highly recommend!

I don't want to give a bad review to a family owned restaurant. But there was so much wrong with this place that is easily fixed. The staff were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving and while we were there there were 2 tables full of dirty plates and cups that stayed that way the entire time while the staff enjoyed chatting. If I am eating in with sandwiches and a salad I don't really want to eat out of takeaway containers, the least that can be done is to put it on or give us plates. The food offering is mediocre at best and nothing of any substance that is hot. It is like no real thought has been put into what is being offered, for example soggy croutons with salad, basic would not be difficult to offer soups etc. Overall pretty poor TBH
