The Bull Hotel Restaurant in Shropshire

I was staying in The Feathers across the road. £7.50 a pint there made me cross the road to The Bull. No one behind the bar. Eventually a customer offered to look for the barman who was chatting outside apparently. Another few minutes passed before I gave up and started to walk out. A random woman carrying a baby insistined on serving me while still holding the child but was rescued half way through pouring a Guinness by the barman. After 20 minutes the background music was replaced with a comedy sing-along accompanied by a ‘local’ whistling loudly and out of tune, I left.

Popped in here as my first choice for lunch was closed on a Tuesday. The pub has a reasonable menu and is good value for money. I had scampi & chips and it arrive hot and well cooked. The bar team are welcoming & polite. Plus the beer garden and pub interior is nice & neat.

My friends and doggies went in this beautiful public house on a lovely Tuesday evening. We decided to eat and the food was very nice and worth every penny. Being in the public trade myself I have to admit it was lovely from polite staff and clean surroundings. We had traveled 90 miles and needed food and a drink and they didn’t disappoint I would recommend this beautiful place to all and give this lovely family your support. We will be back. Xxxx

First off it was a nice looking pub (from the outside) but inside it was very tired and dated but that didn't matter as myself & my fiancé were starving after taking in Ludlow which is a lovely town & I haven't visited for over 40 years but back to our meal,we ordered just a simple cheese & salad (which comes free as a side apparently) sandwich with a side of fries (also which comes free as a side) ,a pint of Peroni & half of Coke,it was the simplest of orders,so obviously we got our drinks right away goes to our table,now 1 thing to bear in mind there were less than I'd say 15 people in the pub but 30 minutes later our sandwichs still hadn't arrived but after 40 minutes 1 cheese sandwich with 1 serving of fries had arrived which my fiancé had I said to her "surely he could've carried another plate" as I waited for mine but I gave him a couple of minutes to get mine but it never came! I told who I presume was the landlady that only 1 sandwich had been bought out she said "I'm sorry I'll tell the cook"... 2 minutes later my cheese sandwich and fries arrived but the one thing that occurred to me was why it took 40 minutes for my fiancé sandwich but only 2 minutes for mine? Anyway at which point the guy who bought it out to me said "we'll have to charge you again for this sandwich" I said "mate you've just charged me £19.74 for 2 cheese sandwichs 1 pint of lager & half a coke! & Now you want to charge me again?! I don't think so!" The young kid that took for our meal basically added all the (free) sides onto the bill & wanted to charge for another sandwich! By the way we never got an apology for our meal being ruined also Moral of the story is my fiancé could've made a better cheese sandwich with her eyes closed & wouldn't charge over £8 for the privilege & take the (all sides come free) with a pinch of salt!

DO NOT STAY HERE IT IS A SCAM. See the previous post about the hotel being closed. I read the post too late. Got to the hotel to be told the manager had absconded. The bar staff were rude and a appeared to not give a toss about the situation. They found it quite funny. It appears this has been happening a lot. Booked using PayPal so will get money back. As per the previous post the website is still taking bookings, deposits and we even got a confirmation 2 days before we arrived. Landline and mobile disconnected

Don’t book, this place has closed down. The booking agent will take your booking and money. They won’t tell you the hotel has closed, and will even let you confirm your stay. But when you arrive, you will have no room. BEWARE!!!!

Hugely enjoyable family lnchtime experience. Quality and quantity of food fantastic... great wine list and super wines available by the glass for after the meal. Staff were friendly, fun and non-invasive. A memorable time thanks to all

We had a great staff Christmas party in the small private dining room. The wine list is extremely interesting & not your usual choices of wines & labels so for anyone who loves their wines this is a must. The service was unobtrusive, professional & knowledgeable. The food was all served in shallow bowls rather than plates which meant main courses looked a bit cramped and the cheese plate was very crowded. However, it all tasted really good - particularly the soup, turkey, ox cheek & cherry chocolate dishes. The sorbets needed taking out of the freezer a bit earlier before service. The bar afterwards was welcoming & the coal fire fabulously cosy. Everything was lovely & clean including the toilet facilities.

First visit and will definitely visit again. Good food, lovely surroundings and good service

Another fantastic visit to the Bull. Staff are brilliant and attentive, but never intrusive. Food was superb, the Sunday roast is one of the best we've had in a pub, those little smoked new potatoes are to die for and the pork belly just fell apart. Will be back soon hopefully.

Lovely family lunch yesterday at The Bull. Friendly staff, great find and wine and good atmosphere. Martin ("mein host") was particularly attentive. Very enjoyable experience.

The food and service were amazing The plates were far too small for the food though! The noise was a bit much for our date! The whole place had a strange smell about it. For the price and above we aren’t sure we will be returning, such a shame as the food was delicious!

Steak was a tad chewy for me . Staff great can’t fault . Breakfast sausage not to my taste not to herby Lovely old building though

Lovely pub, lovely grub! A warm welcome and delicious food await you in this pretty and interesting pub in a charming village. The Bull is full of memorabilia from its WW2 past, and has a varied menu with a fab Sunday roast.

Firstly there's no parking but you can park around the corner for peanuts so it's not really much of a problem. Check in was easy, the excellent barman simply let me in and I was straight in my room. The room itself was comfortable but the bathroom was a bit tired. However I slept fine though I had to leave before breakfast was served. Special mention to the superb barman who couldn't have been anymore helpful, and even introduced me to the delights of lemon gin with Coke.

Very limited choice. The only vegetarian option was pasta pesto. £18.50 for fish and chips. I wouldn’t have commented but you asked me. The breakfast option the next day was less better! There appeared to be no vegetarian option! Let alone vegan. Neither of which we were asked at any time or ‘allergies’ (Natasha’s Law etc).

Service was OK, but maybe a little slow, it was quiet in the restaurant. The food was all OK but I felt it was a bit overpriced for what we got, I had the pasta which was really tasty but a small portion for £16 and no salad or garlic bread. Overall it was OK but I thought it would be better.

I booked a table for a meal as it was my husbands birthday.It was very quiet so no ambiance as such but we still had a lovely evening.The service was just right,not intrusive but very attentive.Our food was great,very hot and cooked beautifully.We both had the haddock and fries which were very tasty.My only slight complaint was the menu was rather limited but I suppose if it is quiet midweek there won’t be a huge selection.As I said ,a minor complaint!Our deserts were huge!I had pineapple with meringue and my husband had sticky toffee pudding,absolutely gorgeous!We were then very surprised and delighted to be given a glass of champagne each to celebrate my husbands birthday!All in all a great evening was spent there enjoying a fabulous meal.Thank you!

The starters were a bit basic I assumed chorizo etc may have come with a bit of something with it considering the cost and although the food was ok it was overpriced, i actually booked because of the pictures on the website but was a bit disappointed

Our visit to the Bull Inn had a warm welcome, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing and we enjoyed our meal the quality of the food was overall good we will certainly be going back.

Food quality absolutely tremendous, both kids meals and the adult menu. We're thrilled to see a mini Bull salad back on the menu ! Ambience is great for a family such as ours, quiet but we're given enough space to ensure the toddlers did not interfere or annoy others. Service wise, Stacey is always on point, informative, friendly and prepared to have a joke with us also.

Another fantastic meal out at the Bull. Great cocktails and food. We went ‘off list’ with our wine choose and let Martin choose for us - we had 2 amazing bottles of red. Thanks to all the Null team again for a great birthday. See you soon

Busy night so kitchen struggled to serve the number of guest in reasonable time. Took approx 45/60 minutes to receive food. Rated service good based on the waitress not the kitchen. Food on the night average pub grub.

Nice pub good atmosphere. Disappointed that we waited over 40 minutes for food to arrive and had to chase it up. Obviously the kitchen was under pressure so these things happen, however just commenting on my experience. We would eat there again as the food was very good.

Had a lovely meal for my friend’s birthday, the waitress was friendly, the food was excellent and we enjoyed our lunch here.

Wine selection was very poor my steak had no taste at all was also tough My sweet had no taste very disappointed

From our previous knowledge of The Bull we were shock at the poor selection on the menu . Ribeye steak was minuscule served with "tomato ketchup...chips dry. Sunday roast other than a sirloin slice of meat the vegetables were inedible. The staff was most helpful trying to please. It is the worse meal we had, expensive , not got over the experience yet.

Service, quality of food and ambience of the Bull was first class. It has definitely carved out a niche in the local market which is pleasantly different. We will be going back soon.

Lovely outside area for relaxed dining and with live musical entertainment too. Nice menu with locally sourced ingredients.. big helpings! Not much light food for such a warm evening however.. A good place for a nice meal with friendly staff and good service.. would thoroughly recommend.

Loved the Banks beer, if you want to visit a traditional friendly pub in Ludlow and there are quite a few you can’t go wrong in the Bull.

We managed to get 3 nights at short notice at The Bull and we're so glad we did. It's perfectly located in the cente of Ludlow with car parking a 5 minute walk away from as little as £2.40 per day (bargain). Rob met us on arrival and showed us to our room which was exactly what we had expected. Breakfast was included in our room rate and we weren't disappointed, a hearty english breakfast perfectly served, or a smaller plate if required, plenty of options for cereals, juice & toast and an endless supply of tea & coffee!! A lovely beer garden with plenty of seating suitable for all ages with a stairway up to the church and a 2 minute walk into the main shopping centre, lots to see on those little steets

A lovely characterful spot with a good ambience. Staff were welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Our food was tasty, well presented and were of sensible portions. A fabulous choice of wines and ales and great background music at a level which still allowed conversation. A gem of a find. Wouldn’t hesitate to visit again if in the area.

Great staff, great service, great food!

We went for Father's day and had emailed ahead to ask for vegan options we were told they do vegan roast dinners, which was perfect. The staff were amazing throughout and they had lots of drink options. The starter was lovely, we didn't mind the wait as it was very busy. The main was not a roast dinner, it was a dinner but there was nothing roasted on the plate, and compared to our family members who had a proper roast we felt very short-changed.

Fantastic food and an extensive wine list. Their own smoked salmon with sour bread was delicious. Silky smooth cauliflower purée with smoked beef short rib was great and we shared a set chocolate moose and gypsy tart for dessert. Both desserts were great but the chocolate mousse was award worthy. The Bull. I used to use the restaurant frequently and returned on Friday 3rd June. The food was simply excellent and service from Dionne and Stacy was brilliant. Takes a lot to impress me. They did it easily. Thank you.

Lovely Sunday roast in a great pub. Live music perhaps a little loud but not off-putting! Will be visiting again for sure.

Food was generally good although poor choice of staters. Drinks very expensive £12 for a large glass of wine at the bar and £36 for a house Sauvignon at the table !

I had high expectations prior to my reservation after viewing their higher than your average price menu online. Service was average and the food was mediocre.

Booked this restaurant for afternoon lunch for my partners 60th birthday. The venue very dated. While it was the middle of the day I didn't expect the very polite watier to severe a very good wine with tattoos on his hands(I have tattoos). Food was horrendous , who put,s cold pickle red cabbage with steak and chips. Over priced , needs new menu (0r chef).Sorry but bad experience.

The Bull is one of our local pubs as I live in Wrotham. It is a great venue for a meal, a celebration or a quiet drink. I was really pleased we could have lunch there as I was meeting a friend and it was such a treat to have a lovely lunch mid week with minimal effort and of course dogs are welcome in the bar area which is an added bonus for me. Been to The Bull a fair few times and it never disappoints. The Korean chicken wings are always a winner. The entire meal was delicious, the staff attentive but never intrusive and the pub itself relaxed and comfortable. Highly recommended for a nice ale or a delicious dinner.

Had a lovely lunch, actually booked by accident but turned out to be a great choice. Great food, wonderful service and homely feel to the restaurant. Definitely revisit.
