The Bull Hotel Restaurant in Wiltshire

The Sunday lunch was faultless. Far more meat than we could manage, but they gave us a box to take home as well as a lot of scraps for the dog! The beef was red and juicy, but Mike will always cook it a bit more for those who like it well done. The staff are welcoming and friendly. I would have awarded 5 stars, for a more sumptuous setting, but that doesn’t put us off. At the end of the day it’s a local pub, which is being well turned around due to Mikes enthusiasm and extremely hard work.

Last night, we enjoyed an excellent meal at The Bull. The quality of the meals was excellent and we were well looked after by the owner. He has made some changes in the pub restaurant but kept all the character in the building. We would recommend a visit. Too far for us to go but, we would have liked to have gone to the Sunday carvery which looks amazing.

Popped in on a whim coming back to Salisbury, we were given a warm welcome. A great range of drinks, the Sunday carvery was on so we decided to have that. The food was exceptional, fresh, cooked to perfection and plentiful. The meat (there were 4 choices) was gorgeous and top quality. Overall it was excellent value for money and a lovely genuine service from the staff. We will be back.

We've had food at The Bull a few times and have never been disappointed, this time was no exception. We ordered two steaks and they came out quickly and perfectly cooked as ordered. Mike, the chef and manager, always has top quality offerings available. I would definitely recommend!

Been past this pub many time on way to Bournemouth. Today we decided to stop....Wow...only had "posh" fish finger sandwich. But what a portion. We ordered extra chips, but both struggled in the end. Now we have stopped, we will do so again and again.

Amazing Sunday carvery. We went as a family of 7 and the staff were great. By far the best roast dinner we have had in a very long time.

Five of us stayed here for 4 nights and were all very pleased with our choice. Food was great, the bar was welcoming and friendly, all the staff were helpful and considerate. We would definitely like to return here in the summer and would recommend this hotel as an ideal place to stay in the Salisbury area.

From the moment we arrived we were treated very kindly and hospitably by the manager and had an excellent stay. We enjoyed the food immensely especially the Tomahawk steaks and Sunday Roast. The latter was the best ever for quality, quantity and value I have experienced, see family photo.

I had a meal of pork belly with roasted veg. All amazing with the pork locally sourced. Also can charge your vehicle here and get fresh milk from a vending machine.

Cute old building with wood beams and a cosy fireplace near the bar. The food was just fab and we had a really nice chilled afternoon having drinks and chatting to Mike and few of his locals. Good beer selection and it looked like they had rooms too which I’ve already booked for a future visit.

There is a high speed EV charge point in the car park so we decided to stop for a meal. The charging point was much faster than the food service. When our food eventually arrived it was disappointing. A very small piece of cod placed on some grey looking vegetables did not look attractive but was edible. The ham was a pre sliced small portion and a tablespoonful of peas was a very mean serving. We will not be returning.

Friendly and Helpful Staff. Breakfast was delicious only "criticism" is Baked Beans in their own pot stay very hot! More of it would have been even better but then I do like a Big Breakfast to set me up for the day! ;-)

Had an overnight stay here last week, not many hotels local so this place was a life savour due to being at a wedding near by. Was allowed to check in early, staff were really friendly and understanding. Even came to the room to let us know that traffic was bad as we didn’t have a lot of time to get ready and didn’t want us to be late! Had we not of been told we would have missed the wedding so we are super grateful. Room was lovely and spacious, the bed was comfortable! Will also mention how shocked we where when we went out the back, the garden has lots of lights and is really beautiful. When we return to the area which we do often to visit family and friends we will definitely be staying here again and we are eager to try the food! Someone was eating as we left and the food looked and smelled amazing. Thankyou too the team for making a stressful time such a positive experience

My wife and I stopped here whilst on our way to the south coast. Our last visit left us with a feeling of disappointment in comparison to our visit before that, but as I said then (a year ago now) I felt that covid had taken its toll. Strange as it may seem, I have just received a response to that visit, 12 months to respond?......The response was from the NEW owners who are plainly aware that they did not want past criticisms to be their legacy. In fact their response was most timely, we had had a return visit here just days before. The difference was quite noticeable. New furnishings and different menu. The staff were excellent, very friendly and efficient and the food was pretty good too, even if the portions were a little on the small side for my liking. I'm glad we came back. This place will stay on our travel list when visiting the South West

When we arrived the landlord said they didn't have any hot chocolate but when he saw my sad face he became very accommodating and said he would make one for me..

Brilliant food. Had the carvery. Brilliant portions much better than any carvery I've been to. We came last week as well and this time the chef/owner did gluten free Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese. And gluten free brownie. Fantastic experience. Nothing was too much trouble

What a little gem of a place! We were greeted by a warm and welcoming landlord who is possibly the most accomodating host I've met yet. We ate in the pub on our first night, the food was cooked perfectly and I am still raving about the steak. My friend had the barbecued ribs and was very happy with his choice. Very reasonable prices for dinner, and the meals are a good size. Our accommodation was spotless, well thought out and had everything we needed. The beds have the most comfortable mattresses I've had the pleasure of sleeping in. And all age groups were catered for perfectly. Clean, friendly, welcoming and a lovely atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back. P.S. Look out for the upcoming hog roast night, the locals are very enthusiastic and if the steak was anything to go by, we are in for a treat!

The Bull saved the day when we became stranded in Salisbury overnight. Very friendly and hospitable service in a great bar, and the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Our dear dog was especially welcomed and we’re all very grateful. Thank you.

Stoppped at The Bull. We saw The Carvery sign outside. But it was not a carvery, it was plated up. Dreadful dark blue plates. The meal was the worse meal I have for a long time. Dirty looking carrots,Roast potatoes looked a few days old, Yorkshire pudding was soggy, Cauliflower was like mush. Nothing looked fresh. Sorry we will not go again !!!!

Visited for dinner, had the chateaubriand, it was divine. Very welcoming hosts in Mike and Emily, lovely atmosphere. Definitely give it a go.

The food was all home made and absolutely beautiful we had the Ham egg and chips , the beef and pancetta burger and the homemade carbonara it was absolutely beautiful and the presentation was amazing. The best pub food we’ve ever had, we were there in May 2023, and had been recently taken over by a young couple endeavouring to get the business up and running, the only thing I would warn guests visiting, you need to be dog comfortable there, as when we were there they had a large super gentle German Shepherd roaming around the food area, but he/she was very gentle

Despite a mix up with our room booking - not the fault of the current landlords -Expedia’s fault, we cannot fault the service and kindness of the current landlords. Emily and Mike have gone out of their way to accommodate us, thank you which is much appreciated after a 10 miles walk. Wow. Lovely full menu and amazing prices on their lunch menu. Ciabatta rolls filled with side salad had a class about them that would suggest a great chef. Looks like a sports bar mainly but can't fault service or food. Would recommend

After hearing bad reviews of previous owners, we thought we would give the new owners and food menu a try. It was delicious! Definitely highly recommend, all the food was hot, well presented, plenty off it and tasted great. The staff were welcoming, and made sure you had everything you wanted. It’s great to finally have some good owners and good food back in the village pub.

This establishment has been smartened up and has an inviting, comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The new hosts have created a delicious menu. We will definately be returning.

This pub/restaraunt/hotel is under new management, with a tempting new menu, a fresh welcoming atmosphere, great coffee and managers who have a natural talent at hospitality.

I am a local and I went here for the first time yesterday for lunch with a friend. I was unsure whether we would like it due to some of the poor reviews. We had the soup of the day-broccoli and Stilton-and my friend had the steak baguette. We also shared a bowl of chips, which looked and tasted hand cut. Delightful! My soup was excellent and my friend's baguette was good, if a bit chewy. With drinks, we spent £10 each- great value. There are only 5 tables tucked away from the main bar, so it makes a cosy setting. One leaving, we discovered it has been under new management with a new chef since early October.

A group of ten of us turned up Saturday evening following a very long, muddy, wet walk. We couldn’t have been looked after better, from sorting out rooms, to drying wet clothes, to getting ten cooked breakfasts ready at the same time. And dinner was excellent. And to top it all, prices were very reasonable - highly recommended.

called in on sunday on the chance of sunday lunch , great we thought,took 5min to be served as the young lad was on his phone, we had the carvery, beef looked good but very tough veg ok , very frindly lady served the meat ,but the language was not nice from one certain youg lady was not what i would expect , the toilets were very messy , sorry but we will not be going back ,

We tried calling from 8.30am to go for Breakfast. Walked up as it says open from 8am for brekkie. No sign of anyone. All doors locked. No one answering phone. Very disappointed!! False advertising.

We came here last year. The food was ok, so when we were in the area, we dropped in again.

We arrived early for lunch and selected our lunch from the menu, ordered our drinks and went outside for a bit of sun but returned inside due to the heat outside.

Place is nice enough (the White Horse down the road is much more cosy) and the staff were friendly and attentive. Food was nice, however 2 meals that should have mushrooms in had carrots instead (which was a surprise) and my wife was served mash when she told the waitress she didn't want any!

Excellent / smashing / perfect tasty full English breakfast first thing. Lovely start to the day. 5 stars from me.

Decided to stop for Sunday lunch. The main menu was available but my wife and I decided to go for the carvery . The meal was average the beef and pork were obviously cheap joints and the rest was decidedly average. As the meal worth the price most likely not.

My family and I joined the lovely people at The Bull for lunch on Christmas Day. It was an absolute treat, particularly for me - as a vegan I can sometimes struggle to find places that cater and although this meal was pre-booked, it was still a bit of a worry. But I needn't have worried! The chef did a truly amazing job and I was treated to Mushroom & Chestnut Soup, Pear & Walnut Salad, vegan sausages with carvery veg, potatoes and gravy, sorbet and mince pies & coffee to follow. Perfect!

Having read some of the reviews I had to add my own.

Can see why people avoid this pub. Sticky carpets, rude staff. Felt like they didn’t want to be there. Won’t be returning.

I stayed at the Bull hotel because it was £50/night and I wasnt too bothered about staying anywhere fancy.

I dropped in for lunch one day and the staff in there are lovely. 3 of us in the party ordered the hot dog style sandwich (proper pork or venison sausage). All looked great and got the thumbs up.

Stopped here last night on the way back from the beach. It was very quiet with only 3 other people in so not really any atmosphere.

Not a lot of atmosphere & a dog running through the bar & under our table didn't help. If dogs allowed in pubs, then should stay with owner. It may have belonged to pub staff. Wasn't sure, but would put me off returning. The food was actually very nice & good value, a light lunch for £7.95 with free dessert. Good choice on the menu.The lady that served us was pleasant.

Service was ok but very matter of fact. Food was mediocre, beer was good and it was conveniently located. There are much better places in town.

Just come back from a visit to the New Forest, stopped here for something to eat, unfortunately have put my review against the Hotel not the restaurant.

On our way home after being out all day walking along the coast and having stopped at a few pups on our way that we did not fancy we decided to stop at the bull, I can honestly say we were all surprised nice enough pup but we were after food and boy o boy the did not let us down, we had four different starters, followed by four different mains all of which were excellent, the staff were friendly helpful and caring all in all a very good experience, one which we will be doing again in the future. Many thanks to the hole team and look forward to seeing you again. THIS PUP IS WORTH A VISIT.

I went twice in one week as I'm a local! The first time me & my boyfriend shared the Camembert to start with which was incredible & plenty for 2 to share! The boy had steak for main course which he was really pleased with & I had the cheese burger which was out of this world! I was so disappointed that I couldn't finish it, the Camembert had filled me right up! We had plans to go out for dinner again that week & I really wanted to finish that burger so we paid the Bull another visit & I was more than satisfied all over again!This time we skipped the starters & went in for the main, I had the burger & finished it (bar a few chips), the boy had sausage & mash & I have to say those sausages were delicious! Of course we left some room for dessert & both chose the chocolate fondant with mini banana split! Absolute heaven!Not only is the food delicious here, it's presented really nicely too! It's proper pub grub but with a bit of class! And the service is fantastic! I can't fault the place, it's one of my favourites & lucky it's on the door step!

To be honest I was a bit unsure of this place when we arrived (a few weeks ago). We were meeting some friends and walked into a bit of a quiet, local type pub with one girl behind the bar.However-when we had the food it was pretty amazing. I had to write this review as I want to give credit when it is due. Whoever was in that kitchen deserves praise.I had king prawns and the burger and both courses were excellent. The prawns were some of the best I have had-more like a mini lobster and served in individual shot glasses with chili sauce (nice touch). No black veins to be seen and nice non greasy batter.The burger was brilliant. I eat in London on a regular basis and go to steak restaurants that sell burgers for £20 and this was easily as good as any I have had in the past-one of the best I have had.My partner had the scallops and steak and she was very pleased and our friends had similar food-all very happy.Well done to the Chef/kitchen and also well done to the bar lady-she was very nice; helpful and a good laugh as well.10 out of 10

We had lunch here today with friends. 4 of us in total. Chose it based on location and reviews in trip advisor made it seem a safe choice. The service both when booking by phone and when we arrived was very good. Both the ladies who served us throughout our lunch were very friendly and attentive. So, why the poor review? Put simply it was the food. 3 of our 4 meals were so heavy in tasting of salt that they were not enjoyable to eat. I chose the beef and ale pie and the presentation was great and I looked forward to it. Sadly the sauce was so heavily laden with salt that it wasn't enjoyable and I ended up leaving quite a bit. My wife chose the green Thai curry which was watery and salty again. Our friend had the risotto and this was salty as well. The salad that came with the lasagne was salty as well.we did feed this back after our lunch and were advised by the kitchen that salt was not added to the green Thai curry. It was a shame as the service was good but now I wouldn't go back.

Food was nice and hot and very well presented. Staff very curtious only reason did not give 5 stars when shown table and sat down the table was dirty with spilt coffee that wasn't cleaned from previous clients.

We were miffed today to find the cosy Bat and Ball was shut for refurbishment but made a detour to this pub which I have never entered before......despite living within 17 miles for over 30 years! And we were pleasantly surprised. Good quality food at good value with free pub for old'uns! Peach Melba with ice cream and meringue ,not bad at all.As said,the service was friendly,quick and unobtrusive so we may well go again. Easy parking. I was surprised there were not more people eating at lunch time.

The somewhat bland 'roadhouse' exterior of this pub restaurant belies the fact that much on the menu is refreshingly individual and top quality. We were pleasantly surprised by the food quality and especially with the prices. Make no mistake, this is a pub first and a restaurant second, as the pool table and large screen tv reflect, but we couldnt fault the meal!
