What a welcome ,friendly staff both behind the bar and in the restaurant. Food was excellent Atmosphere warm and friendly. Highly recommended. Lovely village pub beer garden and play area for children We will be come back many times soon

Our first visit to the Bull & Heifer Country Pub and we were delighted with the food and our waitresses who both added to our dining experience. We understand they have recently taken on a new chef. Well they’re doing a great job. Happy to recommend. Thank you.

Four of us spent a very pleasant and relaxing evening having dinner at the Bull & Heifer recently. There is a large car park at the back, so there was no need to park on the road. We received a warm welcome, and the tables were well-spaced out in the dining area – so many pubs these days have cramped seating areas and fit in as many diners as possible, meaning more noise! Noise levels throughout the building here were pleasantly minimal. All the food was of a high standard (we had three courses), and there was a good choice of drinks. The staff were very helpful in ensuring that any food intolerances were managed correctly. We can certainly recommend the Bull & Heifer as a good place for dining. Also, it is probably the nearest restaurant to Gregynog Hall (just 10 minutes’ drive away), where we were staying overnight.

Stunning food. The best lamb I’ve ever tasted and some really different menu items (loaded fries with pheasant!) and it was all incredible. The ingredients tasted such a high quality. Service was great and very attentive. Would give more than a 5 star if I could as the prices are so reasonable too!

This was our second visit to this lovely pub and think the food was even better than the first. Between the 5 of us, we had a variety of dishes - fish and chips, bull burger, bacon chop, sweet and sour fries, chicken ‘sandwich’ all the mains were spot on - tasty, plentiful, hot, generous portions and value for money. Desserts were equally good too. You can always tell if some where’s good if it’s heaving at 3.30pm! Best to book in advance. Staff were very friendly too. Will be back.

The Bull and Heifer is an excellent example of a really good dog friendly village pub… We are a family with two children (8 and 10) travelling with our four legged friend. The pub was warm and cosy with a lovely log fire burning and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive and it really was a nice place to spend a few hours. We had the Salt Baked Beetroot and Goats Cheese, Tempura Pheasant and Tempura Chicken for starters. Cumberland Sausage, Root Veg Pie, Pan Roasted Chicken and Chicken Loaded Fries for mains. With the children having Bueno ice cream for dessert. All the food was excellent, well seasoned, well cooked and the portion sizes were perfect. There were no negatives with the location, meal or service and we will definitely be returning the next time we are visiting the area.

Stopped off here for dinner. Very friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and most importantly, the food was amazing!! Shame we live so far away, I would definitely be back.

We found this little gem while exploring mid Wales. Absolutely lovely little pub. Very friendly staff, kids had a game of pool before a fantastic dinner next to an open fire. Main course was lovely. We all tried something different and none of us were disappointed (4 of us). I was well happy with a pint of Butty Bach, highly recommend if you like an ale. Finished off with what the wife described as the best double chocolate Brownie she has ever had. All in, it was reasonably priced, great food, beer and perfect service. Thank you for a very enjoyable visit.

I have put that we were here for lunch, because we came on a Sunday and partook of the traditional Sunday Roast, but we actually booked a table for the early evening. I did have a little nagging concern that, going in the evening after a busy Sunday lunch service, we might be getting the ends of the roasts and the kept warm sides, but my fears were completely ungrounded. We both went for Roast Pork and received large plates, stacked high, well presented and thoroughly delicious. A generous portion of meat and crackling, atop a veritable mound of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Served piping hot, with hot plates. I really didn't think I was going to be able to finish, but the dessert menu proved too tempting and we indulged there as well. Service was friendly and attentive, without being too much and we felt very relaxed and in no rush. The menu on a Sunday is priced for either two courses or three, you would be challenged to manage three! We came away feeling very full but having thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

This is a charming old pub in a pretty village with good food and friendly staff. I chose beef shin which I enjoyed, but I would have liked more saute potatoes and vegetables, as they were more of a garnish to the dish than a portion served separately. This meant I was still hungry so had to have a sticky toffee pudding! Perhaps that's the idea. If you have a good appetite you might have to order an extra side dish, but that would of course make the meal more expensive. The wine is good, which makes a welcome change from most pubs who just concentrate on the beer. I enjoyed a very flavourful sauvignon blanc, and had to exercise self control not to have another.

A lovely cosy little country pub with first class food. Couldn't recommend this beautiful little place enough. Great food, well presented and delicious. Would recommend the Beetroot starter and the salt and pepper pheasant bites 👌🏻The service was great too with friendly staff and we had a lovely, cosy table next to a warm fire. No faults. Great night celebrating our anniversary and will 100% be returning for every other anniversary hopefully 🥂 Thank you.

After the flood, the pubrestaurant have pulled out all the stops to get operating again and they've done a great job. It's good to be back! We had Sunday lunch today. just a main course and some drinks. The roast beef dinner was perfect as usual, just the right amount of pink in the meat and fresh, delicious, perfectly seasoned veg. I was tempted, but there was something new on the menu - tempura battered chicken chilli burger. - Oh it was stunning. Not your usual Sunday lunch, but perfect!

A very warm welcome from friendly and efficient staff. Nice, clean comfortable interior. A good range of dishes at reasonable prices and all well presented and good quality. The house Malbec was superb and a perfect accompaniment to the superb bacon chop I had. My guest enjoyed a very good battered cod with the usual accompaniments and this was also of a very high standard. Portions were generous and satisfying. All in all a great place for a meal on any occasion.

Whilst staying in the local area, we visited the Bull and Heifer for dinner on Saturday evening having booked the table on line a few days earlier. The public bar area was very busy with locals (a good sign) who were very friendly but we were served quickly and shown to our table in the restaurant area. The pub is a very old building and has been decorated in a manner very sympathetic to the age of the place with a great atmosphere. The food was excellent, so good infact that we booked in for Sunday lunch the following day, which was also extremely good. The staff are very friendly and efficient, food was great, drinks were good. There was nothing we didn't like and just wish more local pubs were run like this. Just one minor word of warning though, the ladies toilets are upstairs, so those with mobility issues might want to check with the pub if there is an accessible loo available.

Can’t speak highly enough about this pub, warm welcoming friendly atmosphere, the staff are the best, the food is absolutely amazing, living in South wales we have a huge choice of restaurants near us in Cardiff and we have tried many but nothing has come close this place. luckily for us we have family living in the village they know we have to visit here when we stay and quite a few times. Just to add a venue in a small village near us won best pub/restaurant in Wales the bull and hiefer beats it hands down.

I’m a regular and the Bull never disappoints. Always a pleasure to dine there and it’s a highlight for family and friends visiting us from south Wales. They nail everything on the menu. Portion size, freshness, taste, quality, presentation. Always bang on. The management and staff are a pleasure and they seem genuinely pleased to serve you. It’s difficult to call out any menu highlights, because everything is so good, but for me the beef, lamb kofta and chicken burgers are stunning. The loaded fries are melt in your mouth amazing. Both the bar tariff and menu prices are more than reasonable considering cost increases and inflation. Highly recommended for any occasion.

Visited on the way home from a holiday with my partner and son. Lovely little place, and the food!!! Best chips i think ive ever had. My son has autism and food is a huge challenge for him, but not at this place. He inhaled his meal and even ate ice cream for the first time ever!! (It was seriously very good ice cream). We were joking saying we could come back for date night although it would be a 5 hour round trip.. i dont think i was joking. Very popular and i definitely see why! Worth every penny, id have paid a lot more. Will be returning when we next book our break in Wales!

The food is delicious: the best chips we have ever eaten, so much so we visited twice. There is a great selection of food and drink. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We would definitely visit again!

Nice little village pub with plenty of outdoor seating and a restaurant. The locals in the bar were all super friendly and the staff working could not have been more helpful or nice. I ate lunch here in April 2022, and had the Southern-Fried Chicken Burger with fries. It was very good (although not quite as good as the halloumi burger I had her in 2021), and I'd happily come here again.

The restaurant is always so cosy, but due to COVID we got the bull burgers with pulled pork to takeaway. One of the best meals I have had in a long time, looked and tasted amazing!!!

Well run establishment under current restrictions but spoiled somewhat with a selfish large mixed family group paying no heed to social distancing or the one way system. Staff who were lovely could only do so much. Food and service were excellent.

Amazing Sunday Roast.. What can I say, one of the bests roasts I’ve had, perfect roast potatoes, tender meats, great veg and awesome pudding.

We booked here based on pictures, reviews and their website as we’re here on holiday and that’s all we had to go on. Lovely staff on arrival, didn’t love the very sticky table we were sat at, but everything else seemed great and well organised for Covid etc. They offer ‘help out to eat out’ which was a bonus. Somewhat of a shock was being asked to pay for everything up front, and drinks had to be separate to the food! We were charged full price for all drinks including 4 x soft drinks - despite that being part of the above scheme. We were told it was a problem with their new toll system, but on reflection, wonder if that was nonsense. We then ordered 6 x burgers (off a very reduced menu compared to what we read online. We were told they used to do steak but don’t anymore, so should probably update their website), and we’re asked to hold on while the waitress checked if they had burgers available. We were told they did have burgers, great, can we have pulled pork on those ‘erm, hold on I need to check if we have that’! Bit annoying but nothing drasticBurgers were gorgeous. Great chips, awesome burger and lovely coleslaw - really happy.Then the flies came! Clearly they were there as the door had to be kept open and were already above us when we were seated but the number of them only became apparent when the food arrived! The TV on the wall had at least 8 or 10 crawling on them, they were on the ceiling and beams too - must have been 20 flies just by us that me and my friend plus our children spent the entire time batting away while trying to eat. It was disgusting. We completely understand that it’s a part of having to open the door and are they are hard to control, but I mentioned it nicely to the waitress who said ‘nothing I can do’ and walked off. We weren’t offered to move, no concern whatsoever of 6 people sat in a corner flailing around to rid flies while trying to eat. Such a shame as the food was lovely - just hope the flies aren’t in the kitchen too!!!

We were well looked after by the bar staff for pre-dinner drinks even though they were busy with a shooting party, and my what a party they were having which enhanced the atmosphere. We were taken to our table when our food was ready and everyone enjoyed what they ate. I chose the game pie which was jolly good. The staff were very attentive all through our meal and even brought a nice treat for my German Shepherd Dog. A lovely evening all round. We will be happy to return there again

Not been to eat here before. We were blown away. Food was incredible!! Did not want my pheasant starter to end!! This is a 5 star restaurant in our opinion. (4 of us. ) you wont be disappointed. Great lunch really impressed with the selection of veg, good meat nice rare beef. Kids menu was a good selection and the puddings were great. Sticky toffee pudding the favourite.

A big thank you to Steve and all the staff at the Bull and Heifer for hosting our wedding breakfast on Saturday. Superb food, great atmosphere and brilliant service made it banquet that everyone enjoyed.

Have been coming to the bull & heifer since it opened, it was a fantastic country pub, the young chef was brilliant at the time. Things have changed now but not for the good, the food which is good is over priced & under portioned. Its just not good value for money tbh. The meal we had was very nice, but because we remember how it used to be its not as good. We used to come here for food twice a month & always had to book for a table. Now because of the cost we come every 2 or 3 months, just turn up, always a table available, that's the difference. It's still a nice country pub but not as nice as it could be. That's our honest opinion.

Amazing Sunday lunch today at the Bull & Heifer!! After driving 2 hours to get here, a 3 course dinner was definitely needed. If you love Yorkshire puddings you NEED to come here! Never having been here before we didn't know what to expect but the whole experience was wonderful. Each of the courses were such a high standard, the staff friendly and helpful and it is such a lovely old buidling. Add to this being dog friendly and we would highly recommend this to all our friends as well as returning as soon as possible ourselves.

My wife and I ate in the pub on Saturday evening. We did not book ahead, and serving us was no trouble for the team at the Bull and Heifer.

We went here for dinner and it was amazing. I have an allergy to gluten and dairy, the chief was amazing and adapted my meal for my requirements. We were served by Celeste & Becky, so lovely and polite. The atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming and such great value for money. Would highly recommend.

We had looked at the on line menu before visiting and were looking forward to the main menu. The pub is in beautiful location and well kept inside. However we were disappointed to be told that only basket meals are available for the foreseeable future. So beware

What a beautiful pub in a lovely village. Looked on the website and thought we would give it a try. Was disappointed when we turned up to only be offered the very basic basket meals about 7 in all to choose from.

Have been to the Bull and Heifer for food quite a few times and they never disappoint. Heard they had a new chef so thought we’d give the Sunday roast a try. Wow! It’s was amazing!! Plenty of really tasty food and the home made Yorkshire’s were to die for!! The staff were all really friendly and polity too. Will definitely be back again soon!!

I had whitebait and that was OK.. My main course was confit de canard. It was not. It was a dry tough duck's leg on mashed potato and red cabbage served on a cold plate.

This place offers the most superb food- I had a delicious salmon main course but the dishes my friends had looked just as tempting. I did think my lemon tart with a strawberry ice cream was a slightly odd combination. This would have been a five star rating but the service, although very charming, was rather slow. Attractive and very popular eating place. The ladies was upstairs but the gents on the ground floor. A large car park outside.

We have been coming to the Bull & Heifer for many years and have seen many changes. I can only say that the present Chef's food is as as good, if not better, than any of our regular haunts. We have now been 3 times in the last month, taking friends and a little 11 person party. We and all concerned have been extremely happy with the food, service and overall ambience. Sunday lunch for 8 family members including some fussy teens. Large table in newly refurbished restaurant side of the pub near roaring, crackling fire on a bright, sunny but chilly April day. Everyone had roast beef and it was top drawer. perfectly pink and succulent. Perfect veg not over or under done with a nice al-dente crunch with huge flavor throughout. Red cabbage wasn't on the menu for the roast beef option, but we asked for it and they served with no fuss or extra cost. I cannot overstate the quality enough, it was proper, sumptuous, melt in the mouth gorgeousness. Highly recommended and always a great country pub atmosphere.

This review is based on the basket meal alone. It was just a very poor quality meal with nothing freshly made, straight out of the packet and into the oven and the presentation was dreadful. Take my advice do not have the steak and kidney basket meal!

Second Thursday lunchtime meal, both times excellent. Prawn cocktail, followed by fish and chips all very good, then pork in cider followed by Apple crumble tart. £6.95 for 2 courses on a thursday. Quality on both occasions was fabulous. I look forward to going again.
