Food was very good, service was very good, my criticism was the male toilets had a very very very strong urine smell. It is a real put off..

This pub is in the same chain as the Nelson Harrogate. Please don’t visit expecting the same excellent standard of the Nelson 5 plates were brought together, 6th plate took another 15 mins by which time we’d all finished our food. The staff didn’t seemed bothered we’d had to wait. My plate had 2 items missing that were listed on the menu. When questioned the sullen waitress said there was an issue in the kitchen and they’d forgotten. The standard of my food was average with the tomatoes only suitable for cooking rather fresh for the salad. On mentioning this to the waitress she retorted with ‘well you ate everything so it can’t have been that bad’. My husband ordered Crispy Beef Salad, an amazing favourite from the Nelson, again it was average. We had to ask twice for table water and got fed up of waiting to be asked if we wanted deserts and coffee and so didn’t bother. Paid and left.

The service is exceptional. The waiters and waitresses aren't over bearing and are really good at what they do. However, I think the price point of food is a bit of a joke. It's not a Michelin star restaurant. The Gruyere and Nduja for 9 pounds for example, I expected more than 3 half pinky sized bread sticks. The pies, whilst ok, weren't something that you would ever re-order for the price I paid. The cheese and onion pie comes with....greens...that's it. It wasn't buttered or seasoned. It was boiled veg with a 7 inch long slice of pie. I am a local and I wanted to try this for a while, but I am gutted. Anyway, the service was brilliant and they are really lovely, I would go again if it was just for drinks. But the food is massively over priced for what it is. I paid nearly 70 quid for 2 soft drinks, 8 bites of 2 pies and some unseasoned vegetables.

This is not my first visit to The Bull but it was the first time that the weather was warm and sunny so we were able to enjoy the lovely terrace. We were looking for a light but tasty lunch and we found it. We ordered 4 starters, all of which made a great tapas selection. Washed down with chilled white wine. It was one of those special and memorable visits. The food was great, the service was great, the weather was great and we had a great time. THANK YOU.

Stopped in by chance to kill some time on a road trip. 2PM weekday. Friendly welcoming.. Great menu. Of the 5 meals out, 2 of our favorite dishes were that day. Beautiful and tasty gnocchi entree and a chicken and wild mushroom pie that was so delicious and flavorful. Both presented like a food show. Didn't get pictures unfortunately. So good we came back for dinner the following day. He had braised lamb shoulder and I had salmon with mussels. Both tasty, Beautiful, large portions and I'm still craving the sauce that came with mine. Dessert we had sorbet, cherries, and chocolate pie. WOW! Not too sweet. Fresh. Beautiful. Staff was friendly and attentive. Dogs welcome. Do offer breakfast and hope to make it back for that. Maps available for a 4 mile walk starting from there. Good bar.

Very disappointed with my experience at the bull today, came out for Sunday lunch with my partner, whilst at the bar preparing to order food the lady next to me (of similar age, mid 30s) ordered hers and was immediately offered a tab, I waited, ordered my food and was asked to pay, I requested whether I could have a tab, the young lad (whom I do not blame) turned and looked at his manager, (the staff member that had just offered the tab to the lady) and then looked back at me and said paying now would be great, I found this to be a little embarrassing considering I’m stood at the bar amongst other customers waiting. It’s not very good practice if you’re going to offer tabs to customers based on visual judgements, definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. Half way through my meal I needed another drink, which I knew I would, I then had to leave my meal go to the bar and order another drink, which by the time I got served and paid, my food was rather cold. Food was average at best today. It’s a shame as I’ve visited the bull on numerous occasions as my family like eating here and we often meet up for a meal as it’s a decent meeting point between where we all live. I would like to know what training goes in to deciding whether they offer or allow a tab to a customer, is this based on sex? Race? Age? Clothing? As there is clearly some sort of scale. All in all £65 for a mediocre meal for 2 people with a side of embarrassment.

This is a lovely old building with lots of rooms, which I prefer to a cavernous open plan. It is just set-off the very busy trans-Pennine A59, but fortunately the outside seating is situated to the rear of the building. We went for an early evening meal last Sunday. In truth, we usually avoid the Sunday roasts as they always seem over-priced for what they are and that seemed to be the case here. We have previously enjoyed the nibbles here so opted to share crispy squid and halloumi fries (both £6-75) and were not disappointed. Mains of pork and leek sausages and mash and salmon and haddock fishcakes (£16-95 and £15-95 respectively) were tasty and amply satisfying. Excellent service throughout and a very pleasant ambience, plus a decent choice of beers.

One of our favourite pubs to visit when in the area. We stayed on the Broughton Hall Estate for the Easter weekend so visited a number of times as it was walking distance from our cottage. We visited on Good Friday whilst waiting for our cottage to be ready and all 3 of us had light bites. & a dessert each. The desserts were phenomenal & the light bites actually quite substantial. We went again for Sunday lunch. All three of us had starters. My kedgeree arancini looked almost too pretty to eat and was delicious. Two of us opted for roasts which were tasty and of generous proportion. My son had the vegan tortellini which he said was outstanding. We went again early afternoon on the bank holiday Monday rather than going elsewhere as I really wanted the cheese, onion & potato pie. I was definitely not disappointed. Someone else has commented that the portion of this was small & wouldn’t fill a child; I really must disagree with this. The pie was fantastic and quite filling, no need for a side of chips. Unfortunately there was a mix up with my husband’s venison pie. A mix up with labelling so a chicken pie was sent out. The staff dealt with this quickly and efficiently and couldn’t be more apologetic. The pub was very busy over the weekend but there were no excessive wait times and the staff were friendly and efficient. Great setting with plenty of choice. Dog friendly which is important to us. Sadly not warm enough to sit outside in the Superb rear pub garden.

Read previous reviews before visiting on Sunday. The portion size of the roast beef dinner was tiny as someone else commented recently. The side orders were very expensive too. One of our party had cheese pie and, without the additional chips ordered, the meal was as small as a child’s portion. It’s a lovely pub and the food is tasty but……come on guys up your game and portions.

Sunday lunch expensive for portion size. I don't eat huge quantities but even for me although tasty the portion size was so small we had to ask for more veggies. To be fair, staff who were good, did bring more veg to us. Also yorkshire pudding should not be an optional extra ...the cost to make a Yorkie is negligible so seems mean to charge extra. Desserts were a good portion size and excellent.

I ate here with a friend about a week ago and enjoyed it so much I brought my husband for lunch on Saturday. It was busy so glad I booked and again the food did not disappoint. I had the sweet chilli prawns (more like Gambas pil pil) from the Nibbles menu which were delicious followed by the Buttermilk chicken wrap from the lite bite menu. Finished off with a coffee and mini dessert. This mini size pudding with a hot drink is something I wish more eateries would offer. We are both foodies and travel miles for a good high-end restaurant. We didn't have to go far for this one as it's just a few miles from us and we will definitely return. Great bustling atmosphere too... plus dog and kid friendly.

We recently visited the bull because we read the reviews and information that said it put covid safety first. For example, two sittings for meals and tables set apart and regular cleaning. However, when we were on the first sitting lots of people came in for a meal at random times and the tables were not 6 feet apart. This resulted in the small room being full of people who were not at safe distance. Our advice would be to sit outside weather permitting. This reflects the 3 out 5. The food and service were 5 out of 5.

The Bull at Broughton has been our place for a run out and good food for years. This has been our first meal out since restrictions were eased. We chose a very wet bank holiday Monday. The covered area is as good as it can be under the circumstances. On arrival we sanitised at the station and read the board explaining the process. It told us to use the QR code at our table etc. There was only one other table occupied when we arrived, no staff present so we assumed, wrongly that we were to take a table and order via the code and table number. This is where our experience wasn’t quite the experience we expected at the Bull. Bear in mind my husband is disabled. We walked towards the back of the seating area about to sit down and one of the staff came out and almost shouted at us, ok we were in the wrong but she was extremely Curt and bordering on rude. She told us tables were allocated. We walked right back to the very entrance of the marquee, which was unfortunately taking the brunt of the rain, no heater and right where every other diners stood because it wasn’t clear what the process was. It felt as though she had put us there as punishment. The tables were all set for larger groups so we would understand being put there had it been a table for two.All that aside the food was delicious as always. We are led to believe the hospitality industry desperately needs us to support them and that is the reason despite the dreadful weather we didn’t cancel. It’s a very new and unprecedented time for all of us, a little patience wouldn’t go amiss. On another note the younger staff who served us were excellent.

Awful food. Three of us had roast dinners. Two were turkey - it was terrible - a vile tasting red cabbage dominated the whole dish, claggy gravy, poor roast potatoes and veg. The other was roast beef which was incedibly tough. My husband had pie which was ruined with a white parsley sauce poured all over. The thing that really angered us was I clearly ordered for one of my children from the children's menu yet was charged for a full priced adult meal. I also asked for the smaller roast dinner for myself and even confirmed the price yet I was charged just under £18 for the worst roast dinner I think I've ever had. Beautiful building but that is about it. Drive on past - there are far better places nearby. We felt conned and ripped off!

Nice local pub good parking nice atmosphere, food generally good and service to match, on our visits we found Chloe really enhanced our visit, bright, attentive and happy to have a laugh with you. We visited twice on this trip and found the starters Crispy chilli beef and the Pate were very good, mains Crispy beef salad and the steak and ale pie were good, although the pie didn’t have that much meat in it. Second visit Crispy vegetable parcels very nice. Mains Duck was excellent and the malaise chicken curry wasn’t that good rice was very stodgy and the curry was a breast of chicken in a slightly gloopy sauce! Which wasn’t that pleasant unfortunately. puds chocolate brownie very nice. Front of house took feedback very well and gave a free pud to make up for disappointment with curry. Overall definitely worth a visit with some dishes more successful than others (personal taste) service was on the whole very good. Over the summer we have eaten out, but always choosing a venue where we could sit outside, this is obviously not an option in the evening in Yorkshire in September. Impromptu stop for Sunday dinner after finding the Bull to look so inviting when driving back from the Dales. We were grateful that they were able to find us a table during what was obviously a busy time. All COVID precautions were followed with good social distancing, test and trace details taken, table service and hand sanitiser galore.I had the pork & beef roast dinner while my partner chose the roast beef. She also took advantage of the option to have a smaller serving which suited her appetite perfectly. Both meals were excellent with the meat cooked to perfection and the quantity being more than adequate. We would have given the Bull five stars but felt that the deserts didn’t offer the same value as the mains. We both ordered the Lemon Meringue Roulade which was presented beautifully but lacked in quantity. An inch wide slice of roulade for £6:75 took the shine off what otherwise was a really nice experience, however this won’t put us off from stopping again at some point in the future.

We were excited to return to The Bull following a positive experience last year. Sadly this visit nowhere near lived up to our expectations. The Sunday lunches we were served fell way below par, specifically roast potatoes that were tough, not crispy and felt they had been sat under the heater all afternoon. Yorkies that, again, we’re not fresh but dry, tough and one quite burnt. Lamb was great, beef was chewy, all-in-all a disappointment. When we mentioned we weren’t satisfied with the food to the waitress, she seemed totally disinterested and made no effort whatsoever to understand what we were unhappy with.During these difficult times, it’s important for consumers to be flexible, understanding of the difficult jobs the staff have to do. That said, to offer up reheated food at premium prices and display zero interest in customer satisfaction is simply not acceptable - we will not be returning.

Called at the Bull for a lunch time drink 2nd October, we had not booked but there was no one sitting in the outside area so thought it wouldn't be a problem. Now I am well aware of the various restrictions pubs have to adhere to due to the Covid situation & most are managing to make life as normal as possible, the bull however managed to get it so wrong. You are met by confusing signage telling you to wait outside & some one will come to see you, this did not happen. So after waiting some time I ventured in to be met by a waiter, I asked if it would be OK to sit & have a drink outside, he replied 'you can but it could be a long time as we are busy inside & will be attending to them first' after informing him that was fine I turned to retrace my steps through the empty doorway immediately behind me, allowing me to leave without passing other customers, at which point he rudely said 'use the one way system' & directed me through the centre of the busy pub to exit through the front door passing numerous customers & staff on the way! The member of staff was rude curt, unhelpful & showed no common sense, he could not have made us feel more unwelcome, needless to say we moved on to a more welcoming & traditional pub.

Called in for a quick light bite of lunch earlier this week. Ordered drinks a couple of Prawn Cocktails. They were £8.95 each, so we imagined they would be reasonably substantial...WRONG! They came in a small glass which contained a few lettuce leaves and a couple of desert spoons of thawed out tasteless prawns, the garnish was 4 or 5 of the thinnest slices of radish about the size of a 5p piece, topped off with the most parsimonious squirt of Marie Rose sauce imaginable and a slice of buttered brown bread. At the bottom of the glass, when finished, was a puddle of cloudy water (sums it up really). At best we would have expected to pay no more than £3.50 for such an uninspired offering. The waiter’s response after having asked us “Was everything alright ” was “I’ll tell chef”...Won’t be back for a while I’m afraid.

We visited the Bull on bank holiday Sunday early lunchtime. The pub is very nicely done and has a warm welcoming feel. However that soon changed as our waitress was impatient and to be honest, rude to us. We asked about the size difference of the fish and chips and she was short with us and told us that we can see from the menu the price difference (that isn’t what we asked). My husband went with the small despite the unhelpful advice and when it arrived it was like a child’s portion - he wish he’d known and would have gone for the large. The menu was also quite limited - it was all very filling main meals which at 12pm was a bit heavy for some of our party who fancied more of a light bite/sandwich. Again we asked the waitress who just told us that there wasn’t any. The food we had was good but the service let it down. The menu could also do with a bit of work to cater for smaller appetites, particularly at lunchtime.

Having attended the nearby Land Rover experience we were handed a 10% discount voucher supplied by the landlord at the Bull.Given that it was a fine early evening we were attracted to eat here because there was plenty of room in the beer garden to happily ‘safely distance’Staff were polite and professional. The starter of chilli prawns were good.I opted for the steak and ale pie. As previously described this was nothing more than fatty stewed beef with a flaky pastry lid. Chips were frozen and acceptable dish of mushy peas. Not good value at near £16.My wife opted for the tortellini with pea veloute. What arrived was 6 ghastly white thick pasta parcels with an adequate filling but little to no veloute, just some mushy pea type dabs on the plate. We were not asked how our meal had been so chose not to comment. My advice, if in the area, avail yourselves of the many other meal outlets in the Skipton area.

The shoulder of lamb was amazing. The service was outstanding on a very busy Eat Out to Help Out Monday. First time we have been here despite saying for a few years we have to go there. A lovely pub. Will definitely return.

Good staff, good atmosphere and good food :) popped in on our way back from Skipton and happy to say really enjoyed our visit. All safe with the corona rigmarole. Enjoyed a coffee - which was really nice- and a great burger. Thank you :) will recommend and visit again

Food excellent, service good & Covid-19 precautions very good. Had a very pleasant experience. Loved the choice to have a small dessert with tea/coffee as we were too full for a normal sized dessert.

Called in for lunch as we passed. The staff could not be more helpful and all the necessary precautions for the Covid virus were in place. I had the duck leg as a starter, followed by the Lamb and finished with Summer Pudding...Fantastic. My wife started with the Salmon and the beef as a main. She followed up the the waffle. All brilliantly presented and very tasty. Will call again if we are passing. Brilliant, thank you to all the staff.

We stopped for a meal outside this pub while we were out. Not much choice for vegetarians, so i had a light bites meal of quiche and potato salad, my husband had steak, which cost £25.00, he said it was very chewy and not worth the price. Can not fault the staff though , who were friendly and happy.

Decided to have dinner out on way home from a weekend in the Dale's. Luckily the Bull were able to accommodate us. Lucky for us the food was exceptional too. The staff were professional and the Covid stuff was being handled well. Will go back and recommend to others.

We stopped off here for a very late lunch after visiting Coniston Hall Estate nearby. The restaurant was very quiet due to the time so we managed to grab a table right next to the log fire. The food was excellent, served promptly and good portion sizes. Everything was tasty but in particular the mushroom and celeriac suet pudding for main course - jt was amazing. A lovely meal all round. ☺️

We dined here after reading the fairly good reviews. However, it was the first time in my life I have ever sent a meal back. We had some nibble starters which were ok, no more than ok. Simply sausages which tasted of sausages nothing amazing, nothing more and not worth the price. We then had steak and ale pie which came as 1.5cm of filling and a pastry lid slapped on top of around 1cm in thickness. None home made chips — by this I mean the chips were frozen not cut fresh from a potato and some frozen peas. No gravy. No densely filled pie, oozing with gravy, with onions, big chunks of steak meat ... NO. None of that. Literally shredded stewing steak in dry soaked up —- can’t even call it sauce it was more like jelly, it legitimately looked like a tin of cat meat with a lid slapped on it. It looked anaemic. Honestly it looked like hospital food.My partners chicken burger came, it was fine. It was a chicken burger nothing delicious or nice about it just a chicken burger standard. He left all his fries as they were short of the pan, pale and weren’t home made fresh.Basically we went here came out £40 lighter extremely underwhelmed and hungry. I can’t believe people leave this place good reviews, do people not know what good fresh homemade food is anymore? Why do people settle for paying top £££ for rubbish. My advice is don’t go here, overly pretentious without amazing food to back it up (all talk no trousers). Rubbish.

Out for a birthday lunch and we did have good expectations of eating here, however food was delayed because of a mix up in the kitchen, one of the meals arrived 10 minutes before the other five meals. One of the party asked for a Yorkshire pudding with their meal which turned up eventually, cold and saturated in fat looking as if it was one they wouldn’t generally serve but grudgingly delivered. Despite the the staff serving meals with cloths, plates were lukewarm as was the food, potatoes like bullets and small portions. What a disappointment as we expected better. Needless to say we gave desserts a miss and left, would however like to say that the waitress who served us was lovely.

Very much enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Choices of traditional roasts or other dishes - full menu on their website. I enjoyed a duck & rabbit terrine starter with their own pickle. The mediterranean style mixed vegetables and pittas also went down well. The roasts were wholesome. No airs or pretentions - everything on the plate; good pub grub. A good atmosphere and welcoming staff. Beers - a variety but a definite predilection for "blond" beers (unfortunately).Hard to find a decent Sunday pub lunch but this one is definitely up there.Recommendation - if you want to eat here BOOK! The place was heaving.

Arrived at The Bull and had a couple of drinks near the bar as we were early for our booking for two. All very pleasant - nice selection of drinks and good service, and a decent atmosphere in the pub. The staff were all very professional, friendly and attentive. Starters were fine, we both had pate, which was generous in terms of size, but a little bit nondescript. Featherblade of beef was fine, nicely tender, with mash, gravy, cabbage. All pleasant but a bit uninspiring for the price. However, the Crispy Beef Salad, at £14, was extremely poor. Chewy, lukewarm beef in rubbery batter, with a small amount of sweet chilli sauce on it. This was served on a massive bed of cabbage - mainly the numb end bits that you would maybe use in a soup or shred into coleslaw, but not serve up in this way - of which there were a huge amount and with zero dressing. Not nice, and certainly not worth the price. Shame, as that particular dish was so poor it tarnished the whole meal.

Nice setting. Lovely back patio to sit in the sun. The staff are mostly friendly a few not. Had the pie it was very bland. The steaks are average The Sunday roast is ok but better not far away not sure red cabbage goes and the gravy was very thick and salty.

In the past this Inn/restaurant was owned by Ribble Valley Inns, an excellent group under the umbrella of a Michelin* restaurant, but now its owned by another group so we thought we'd try it. Decors still the same and excellent head waiter? Was the food as good as previously, not sure, certainly wasn't better and a staff member who forgot to give us a dessert menu when we asked for it....

We came as a last minute booking and appreciated the availability. Some of the dishes were good but i do have to comment on my personal disappointment. Paying top dollar for ribeye steak and chips it came so unimaginatively presented. On a plate with a splattering of tasteless frozen chips. A few onion rings were 3.95 extra. It looked like something i had prepared. No finesse with the presentation. How about putting fresh homemade chips in a stack or fresh homemade chips in a side dish attractively arranged. What about putting the steak on a board and include an onion ring as garnish. A bit Brewers Fayre to be honest. Actually maybe worse. Please sort the chips and use fresh. Service was good and staff members excellent in all other ways.

We held a family ‘get together’ at the Bull on Boxing Day as we knew the food, service and festive ambience would be exceptional, and it was. The 3-course meal was well presented, plentiful and there was a perfect choice for the festive period. Cosy, welcoming and very relaxed environment.

Travelling back from a visit to Preston, we came across The Bull just when we were ready for lunch. It proved to be a very worthwhile stop indeed. A warm and welcoming interior with plenty of tables and friendly Staff. The menu has a good variety of choices and this menu included some Festive choices for December. Our order was soon taken and not long in being served up. Very nicely plated, tasty and hot. We loved every mouthful ! A really nice touch was when we had our coffee. It was served with a cube of soft and fruity flapjack. Absolutely delicious and quite different. A lovely atmosphere was enhanced by the open fire with its crackling logs. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here.

The Cavendish Arms hosted my father’s wake this week. The family cannot thank them enough for the afternoon and evening. Nothing was too much trouble. The buffet was outstanding with homemade/home cooked food a plenty. We are all still talking about now! Leigh, Owen & Joe were so generous with their hosting and the amount of delicious food offered to us! We had the pub to ourselves until the pub’s evening opening time and then we didn’t feel we needed to round up the occasion. In fact, some of us were still there at 11pm. Thank you again, Leigh, Owen & Joe from us all. Previous to the wake ~ we made a couple of visits to organise things and had lunch on both occasions. Once again… the food was quite outstanding. Freshly cooked, well presented, full of flavour and generous portions. We were eyeing up all the different dishes being served up in the dining room and it all looked top class. I think we might have found a new favourite pub! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
